Abstract

Background: Balance is an important part of a person's physical fitness that is needed until the end of life and is very influential in everyday activities. The balance of the elderly will slowly decrease the function, either anatomically or physiologically, which will be followed by a morphological decrease in the muscle causing muscle functional changes, ie decreased strength and muscle contraction, decreased elasticity and muscle flexibility, decreased propioceptive function and speed, vestibular, visual, somatosensoris so that it can disturb the elderly dynamic balance and the risk of falling larger. Efforts to improve dynamic balance and reduce the risk of falling with physical exercise in the form of low impact gymnastics. Objective: The purpose of this study is to prove the effectiveness of low impact aerobic gymnastics in improving the dynamic balance in the elderly. Method: This study used quasi experimental method with one group research approach pre and post test design lasted for 4 weeks with frequency 3 times a week. The study sample amounted to 14 people who were given low impact aerobic gymnastics program. Dynamic balance measurement using Balance Berg Scale is measured before or after the training program on each subject. Result: showing the increase of dynamic balance equal to 55,14 ± 1,231 with result of test of wilcoxon got value p = 0,001. Conclusion: Low impact aerobic exercise can improve the dynamic balance of the elderly.

Abstract

Background: Physical training has an important role to maintain and improve the degree of physical fitness seen from the ability of maximal oxygen volume (VO2Maks). In addition, physical training is also useful so that the body does not quickly experience excessive fatigue during heavy physical activity, prevent obesity and improve one's health condition. This study aims to determine the training of scout gymnastics can increase VO2Maks. Method: This type of experimental research with the randomized pretest posttest control group design. The samples of this research are students of extracurricular scout participants of SD Negeri 1 Pelaga, 42 students divided by 2 groups. Group 1 was given scout gymnastics training the duration around 15 minutes, meanwhile group 2 as a control group, with exercise frequency 3 times a week for 6 weeks. VO2Max is measured by the Bleeps Test (MFT) instrument. Result: The results of the study on age, height and weight were analyzed descriptively in both groups which data were taken prior to the determination of the study sample. The data of normality test used Shapiro-Wilk Test and homogeneity test data with Levene Test. The normality and homogeneity test results show the normal and homogeneous data distribution. Intra-group difference test of VO2Max group was tested by t-paired test. Different test results with t-paired before and after training, Group 1 and Group 2 differed significantly (p < 0.05). In Group 1, VO2Max (L/m) was average before training 23.99 ± 2.31 and mean after training 31.31 ± 2.85 with difference = 7.32 and percentage increase 30.51%. While in Group 2, VO2Max was average before training 24.00 ± 2.23 and mean after training 25.48 ± 2.69 with difference = 1.48 and percentage increase 6.16%. The results of the VO2Maks increase between the two groups before and after training were tested by t-independent, with significance values α = 0.05. VO2Max mean in both groups before training with p value = 0.98 (p > 0.05) and after training with value p = 0.00 (p < 0.05). It shows that group 1 and group 2 have an effect of increase (p < 0.05). However, the increase in group 1 was better compared to group 2. Conclusion: It was concluded that scout gymnastics training increased the maximum volume of oxygen. However, the treatment group that was given scout gymnastics training increased by 30.51% compared to the control group at 6.16%.
