Abstract

Morphology, distribution and relative frequency of endocrine cells in the pancreas Bullfrog (Ranacatesbeiana) were studied using conventional and immunohistochemical methods. Samples pancreas takenfrom ten adult Bullfrogs (five males and five females). In general, pancreas of the Bullfrog consists ofexocrine portion, endocrine portion (Langerhans islets) and ducts. The Langerhans islets were distributedamong the exocrine portion of pancreas. Endocrine cells in the pancreas of Bullfrog were polimorph, round,oval or triangular in shapes with bipolar cytoplasmic granules. Glucagon cells were distributed mainly inthe peripheral, insulin cells in the center while the somatostatin cells in the area between glucagon andinsulin cells of Langerhans islet. The number of the glucagon cells were higher compare to the number ofinsulin and somatostatin cells.

Abstract

Penelitian ini memanfaatkan teknik pewarnaan standardan khusus, impregnasi perak Grimelius, untukmenggambarkan morfologi komparasi pankreas kambing dandomba lokal dengan tinjauan khusus pada distribusi danfrekuensi sel-sel penghasil hormon glukagon pada bagianendokrin pankreas. Pankreas domba mempunyai lobulasiyang lebih jelas daripada pankreas kambing ditandai dengansepta interlobaris yang jelas, tetapi batas antara bagianendokrin (pulau Langerhans) dan bagian eksokrin tidak jelaspada domba. Sebaliknya pankreas kambing mempunyaibagian endokrin yang jelas batasnya dengan bagian eksokrin.Pulau Langerhans tersebar diantara eksokrin pankreas,dengan frekuensi terbanyak didapatkan pada pankreas bagiankanan (head), diikuti bagian kiri (tail) dan tengah (body).Pankreas kambing mempunyai bagian endokrin yang lebihbanyak dibanding dengan pankreas domba. Sel-sel penghasilhormon glukagon pada pankreas berbentuk polimorfik, bulat,oval, segitiga atau seperti tetes air dengan butir-butirsitoplasma yang terletak bipolar. Sel-sel ini berdistribusipada bagian perifer dari pulau Langerhans. Jumlah sel-selglukagon berbanding lurus dengan jumlah pulau Langerhanspada pankreas. Perbedaan yang diamati, mencakupperbedaan morfologis, sebaran serta jumlah pulauLangerhans dan sel-sel glukagon, sangat mungkindisebabkan oleh perbedaan dalam jenis dan pola makankedua hewan tersebut.

Abstract

Spermatogenesis is a continuous process in which spermatogonial stem cells (SSC) develop into specific germ cells before terminally differentiating to form spermatozoa.  The process is supported by Sertoli cells, which are in close contact with germ cells in the seminiferous tubules. Sertoli cells provide essential hormonal signals, nutrients, and physical support to germ cells for successful spermatogenesis.The crude testicular cells (CTC) contains many cell types, like Sertoli cell, Leydig cell, spermatogonial stem cell (SSC), spermatocyte and other testicular somatic cells (Shah et all. 2016). Testicular cells are believed to secrete various growth factors that induced the spermatogenesis process.  The spermatogonial stem cells are unique population of cells in the male testis, which dual function.  First self-renewing their population to maintain the number of stem cells, secondary function is differentiating into spermatids in testis (Wang et al.  2015).Spermatogenic cells differentiation  needed the similar microenvironment in vivo spermatogenesis.  The essential nutrients was collected from healty culture and the culture contained mixed population of cells both the somatic cells and spermatogenic cells.  To identification the spermatogenic cells using Periodic Acid Schifft (PAS) staining (Chang et al. 2011). The present study examined the development of crude testicular cells using PAS staining.

Abstract

Bats have the second largest diversity in mammalian classes after rodentia (Nurfitrianto et al., 2013). Bat population reaches approximately 1100 species (Teeling et.al 2005). In Indonesia there are 205 or 21% of known world bat species (Suyanto 2001). Bats are the only flying mammals. The ability bat to fly is supported by the shape of the extremities and also the adaptation of the cardiovascular organs. Based on empirical studies of cardiovascular was known that cardiac muscle mass is a good indicator for the degree of adaptive specialization of prolonged locomotor activity, in both birds and mammals. Data on cardiovascular muscle morphology and muscles that support flying ability will provide an overview of the behavior, ecology and physiology of certain animals (Bishop 1997).Several studies have been conducted to study the cardiovascular system of bats. Research on bat hematology profile has been done (Heard and Whittier 1997, Mclaughlin et.al 2007, Wawrocka and Bartonicka 2014, McMichael et al. 2015, Ratnasooriya 2016, Rashid et al, 2016, Rahma et al., 2018). Joseph (1908) says that every animal has a different size and heart shape to each other. This heart size difference is influenced by the size of the body and the high energy required by the animal (Joseph 1908).Bat's heart rate is known to increase during flight (Thomas and Suthers 1972). This is causes an increase in the rate of metabolism. Writing this paper will discuss about the uniqueness of the bat's heart so that it can support its ability to fly.

Abstract

Pada penelitian ini dikaji kemampuan spermatozoa domba hasil pengeringbekuan untuk melakukan dekondensasi dan membentuk pronukleus setelah diinjeksikan ke dalam oosit dengan menggunakan teknik intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). Metode pewarnaan aceto lacmoid digunakan untuk mengevaluasi kejadian dekondensasi dan pembentukan pronukleus pada oosit setelah ICSI. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa spermatozoa hasil pengeringbekuan dapat melakukan dekondensasi (2%) dan mendukung pembentukan 1PN (34%) tetapi belum mampu mendukung pembentukan 2PN setelah diinjeksikan ke dalam oosit. Sedangkan injeksi dengan menggunakan spermatozoa segar mampu mendukung pembentukan 2PN (30%) dan 1PN (40%). Sebagai kesimpulan dapat dikemukakan bahwa spermatozoa hasil pengeringbekuan mampu melakukan dekondensasi dan mendukung pembentukan 1PN setelah ICSI

Abstract

Knowledge and information about the age of puberty in muntjac (Muntiacus muntjac muntjac) isindispensable to the interests of females breeding in conservation efforts. The aims of this study were todetermine the age of puberty and age at first mated females muntjac kept in captivity through the analysisof estrogen and progesterone metabolites in feces. This study used 155 fecal samples that were collectedfrom three female muntjacs. Sample collection was began when muntjac aged three months, four monthsand six months. Total of 10-20 g fecal samples were collected every 2-4 days. Analysis of steroid hormonemetabolites was performed by using enzyme immunoassay (EIA) method with specific antibodies.Determination of the age of puberty was based on the appearance of the first time estrus and ovulation,which was indicated by the appearance of the highest estrogens secretion, on hormone metabolites profile.Hormone metabolites data then were tabulated in the average and standard deviations were presentedwith graphs and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the age of puberty detection based onanalysis of the estrogens and progesterone metabolite in the feces can be applied in muntjac. Muntjacfemales kept in captivity flats reached puberty at age 5±1 month or 4-6 months range. It is recommendedthe first mated in the muntjac is at least after the female experienced two period of oestrous or has reachedat age of six months.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan referensi anatomi radiografi kaki depan landak jawa (Hystrix javanica) yang terdiri dari digit, carpus, metacarpal, radius, ulna, dan humerus. Penelitian ini menggunakan 2 ekor landak jawa (jantan dan betina) menggunakan mesin radiografi digital dan proyeksi standar. Empat gambar menggambarkan radiografi normal kaki depan dan dideskripsikan secara rinci. Gambar ini berguna untuk membantu para ahli bedah, mahasiswa kedokteran hewan, medik konservatif khususnya hewan domestik, dan para peneliti dengan pemahaman anatomi radiografi normal kaki depan, dan memungkinkan perbandingan dengan radiogafi yang abnormal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui distribusi penyebaran golongan darah A, B, dan AB dan mengetahui kemungkinan hubungan antara golongan darah dengan kemunculan pola warna rambut pada kucing domestik di Indonesia. Pada penelitian ini digunakan 50 ekor kucing domestik yang berasal dari daerah Bogor dan Bekasi. Pemeriksaan golongan darah kucing dilakukan dengan identifikasi golongan darah dengan kit antibodi monoklonal Shigeta(Jepang). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa semua kucing domestik yang diteliti bergolongan darah A dan tidak diperoleh tanda-tanda adanya hubungan antara golongan darah dengan warna rambut. Terdapat sembilan kemunculan warna rambut yang terdiri atas warna tunggal, kombinasi dua warna, dan kombinasi tiga warna.

Abstract

Hematology value is important to evaluate individual health status. This study was purposed to observe hematological value of male and female of Cynopterus tithaecheilus which has not been reported yet. The study was conducted on 16 Cynopterus tithaecheilus (6 adult males, 6 adult females and 4 juvenil) to study about haematological profile. Blood samples were taken using tuberculin needle and analyzed by hematology analyzer for hematological value. Female Cynopterus tithaecheilus has higher number of white blood cells than male, but the differentiation of white blood cell was not different. Male Cynopterus tithaecheilus has a higher platelet than female. Generally Cynopterus tithaecheilus juvenil has a higher leukocyte and a higher platelet than adult.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari morfologi kelenjar aksesori muncak jantan secara makroanatomi dan mikroanatomi. Seekor muncak jantan dewasa berumur 4-5 tahun dengan bobot badan 19 kg digunakan pada penelitian ini. Muncak terlebih dahulu di-exanguinasi untuk dikoleksi kelenjar aksesori kelaminnya. Untuk memperoleh gambaran mikroanatomi, sampel kelenjar aksesori diproses dengan teknik histologi dan diwarnai dengan pewarnaan hematoksilin-eosin (HE). Hasil pengamatan makroskopis menunjukkan bahwa kelenjar aksesori muncak jantan terdiri atas ampula, duktus deferens, kelenjar prostat, kelenjar vesikularis, dan kelenjar bulbouretralis. Karakteristik histologi kelenjar aksesori muncak adalah ditemukannya kelenjar prostat yang berbentuk pars diseminata dengan kelenjar-kelenjar sekretori tersebar di sekeliling lumen uretra pars pelvina dimana secara makroskopis kelenjar tersebut tidak dapat diamati. Tipe kelenjar sekresi pada ampula, kelenjar vesikularis, dan pars diseminata prostat adalah tubuloalveolar, sedangkan pada kelenjar bulbouretralis tipe tubular. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa morfologi kelenjar aksesori muncak jantan memperlihatkan kemiripan dengan kelenjar aksesori pada ruminansia kecil lainnya seperti kambing, domba, reeves muntjak, dan pampas deer.
