Abstract

            This study aimed to analyze factors affecting lowland rice production in Uetoli village of Ampana Tete sub-district. This village is one of the centers of rice production in Tojo Una-Una district. Population of this study was lowland rice farmers in Uetoli village within which 34 respondents were selected.  Data collected was analyzed using the Cobb-Douglas production function analysis. The results of the study indicated that those variables such as land area (X1), number of seeds (X2), urea fertilizer (X3), phonska fertilizer (X4), and labor (X5) were simultaneously affected the rice production with F-counted value was 58.53 larger than the F-table (3.76) at 1% significance level (?) and R2 value was 0.955 indicating that 95.5% of variation in the rice production (Y) can be described by these variables. The coefficient regression was 0.429 for the land area (X1), 0.217 for the number of seeds (X2), 0.169 for the amount of urea fertilizer (X3), 0.163 for phonska fertilizer (X4), and 0.155 for the labor (X5). Keywords : Cobb-Douglas Production Function, Lowland Rice, and Regression.

Abstract

This dissertation discusses the transformation of modern agriculture into organicagriculture at Subak Wangaya Betan, Penebel District, Tabanan Regency, Bali Province.This study is conducted in the perspective of Cultural Studies and the problem is that thedark side of modern agriculture is getting visible. The chemical substances used inagriculture have turned out to result in many problems such as the damage of landquality, the continuous decrease in plant productivity and environment, themarginalization of farmers. Therefore, many farmers have been aware and havetransformed into ecologically organic agriculture as what has taken place at SubakWangaya Betan. The farmers have transformed from modern agriculture into organicagriculture. However, the process of the transformation has left many problems;therefore, a deep study is necessarily conducted to answer various existing questions.The problems in this study are formulated in three basic questions such asfollows. First, how has the process of the transformation from modern agriculture intoorganic agriculture taken place at Subak Wangaya Betan? Second, why has thetransformation from modern agriculture into organic agriculture taken place? Third, whatare the implications and meanings of the transformation from modern agriculture intoorganic agriculture at Subak Wangaya Betan? In general, this study aims at identifyingand comprehending more clearly the transformation from modern agriculture into organicagriculture taking place at Betan Wangaya Subak.This research was conducted using qualitative method with multidisciplinaryapproach in accordance with the paradigm of cultural studies. In the first stage, primaryand secondary data were collected. In the second stage, theories were selected foranalyzing the data. Several critical theories such as the theory of Discourse of Power andKnowledge, the theory of Hegemony and the theory of Deconstruction, which are eclecticin nature, were decided to select for analyzing the data. In this third stage, the selecteddata were analyzed and interpreted. In the fourth stage, the results were constructed andreported.Based on the analysis conducted, three findings could be reported. First,agricultural transformation has taken place at Subak Wangaya Betan, from agrochemicalbasedmodern agriculture in which inorganic, chemical pesticide and hybrid varieties areused into organic agriculture in which no chemical substances are used. The agriculturaltransformation has not been suddenly conducted; it has been a planned process, has beenconducted through a highly systematic mechanism with many stages and has consumed alot of time and needed in-depth studies. Second, many factors have led to the agriculturaltransformation taking place at Subak Wangaya Betan. They are external factors such aspolitical, economic, social, cultural and ecological aspects and internal factors such as thenegative side of green revolution implementation, natural resources, cooperative farmers,and adherent farmers. They are all equally strong and synergize in encouraging andaccelerating the agricultural transformation. Third, it turns out that the agriculturaltransformation taking place at Subak Wangaya Betan has several implications andmeanings. The implications are that the ideology adhered to by the farmers has changed,the establishment of new institutions, an increase in the farmers? income, improved ricefield ecosystem and environment. The meanings of organic agriculture are spiritualmeaning, empowerment meaning and welfare meaning.

Abstract

AbstractFactors That Affect Consumer Demand Against Local Oranges in Denpasar CityThis study aims to test the accuracy of demand function model to approach the demand local oranges in Denpasar, identify the factors that affect consumer demand to local oranges in Denpasar, and estimate the elasticity of citrus nobilis demand in Denpasar. Location choosen purposely those in the kreneng market, ketapian market, sanglah market, and badung markets. The population on this research are the buyers of local oranges fruit. Samples taken as many as 50 people use purposive sampling techniques. This research using two demand function models namely linier demand function and Cobb-Douglas demand function who tested with three criteria which resulted the best model. Independent variable that affects was : the price of local oranges (x1), the price of import oranges (x2), the price of apples (x3), the price of mango (x4), family income (x5), and extended family (x6). Cobb-Douglas demand function model namely LnY = 2,912 - 1,109LnX1* - 1,461LnX2* - 1,579LnX3* +1,383LnX4* + 0,622LnX5* + 1,449LnX6*. Factors that affects are the price of local oranges, the price of other fruit (import oranges, apple, mango ), family income, andthe number of family members. Price elasticity on the demand of local oranges is elastic. Complementary goods namely import orange fruit and apples. Substitutiongoods namely mango. Income elasticity showed that local oranges is inelastic. Consumers should choose the local oranges, because more assured quality and isproduced domestically.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Comparison of sweet corn and rice farm Income in Subak Delod Sema, Padanggalak Kesiman Petilan village, East Denpasar. Sweet corn as a farm commodities is a favorite food especially in town. Sweet corn cultivation has an opportunity to give high benefit if done by effective and efficient system. The election of research area is done by purposive because subak Delod Sema as a central of sweet corn in Denpasar. We take 35 sweet corn farmers and 15 rice farmers (opportunity cost)  from 177 sweet corn farmers as our respondent and we use Slovin Theory. Than 56 rice farmers (opportunity cost) with proportional random sampling method. The purposes of this research are for knowing farmer income, marketing process, and farmer problems. The result of this research show that real income rate which got by farmer from sweet corn farm operations are Rp 9,263,218/month/ha bigger that's all million that is Rp 6,727,102/month/ha (57,01%) get more by rice as opportunity cost Rp 2,536,116/month/ha. This situation show that advantages in the same wide area for sweet corn farm operations get more value than rice cultivation. There are two ways for distribution their sweet corn product such as: first, start from farmer as producer to collector further to consumer. Second, start from farmer as producer to collector than collector to retail in market further to consumer. There are problem faced by sweet corn farmer such as: climate change, exchange price, rare access to investor, and decrease of price information. Based this research we suggest to farmer that sweet corn farm operations as daily profession and more active browsing information in create farm operations. Abstract

AbstractFeasibility of Livestock Pigs at UD Sindi Mandiri Bongan Village, Tabanan DistrictOne of the sub sector of agriculture is contained in sub-farms. Pigs become one of the most popular animals to be developed in several regions in Indonesia, especially Bali. One pig farm in the province of Bali, located in Tabanan and is located in the center of Tabanan the pig breeding business in UD Sindi Mandiri located at Bongan village, District of Tabanan, Bali. The purpose of this research was conducted to determine the feasibility of financial, non-financial, and constraints - constraints faced by businesses pigs. Pigs effort financially viable if the review of the value frombreak even point, payback period, net present value, net benefit/cost ratio, gross benefit/cost rati , internal rate of return and sensitivity analysis. The non financial businesses pigs feasible if viewed from the technical aspects, marketing aspects, management aspects, legal/law aspects and environmental aspects. While constraints- constraints faced have been overcome by the breeder. Pig breeders need to develop marketing strategies, technology infrastructure in order to be efficient production, increased quality and production can be increased.

Abstract

A survey was carried out to determine the behavior of bali cattle breeders in Bali, as well as finding an effective extension system in implementing technic and management production. The research design was a survey, using a questionnaire as a data collection tool. Research was conducted in all eight regencies and one city in Bali. In total 198 breeders were surveyed by purposive sampling method, 99 of which were members of groups and 99 were not members of groups. Data was analyze using  descriptive, t-test, and Structural Equation Model (SEM). Results of the research showed that: 1) The level behavior, bali cattle breeders in implementing technical and production management classified in the middle category; 2) The extension system in Bali for bali cattle breeders to improve the behavior was not effective; and 3) Effective extension system to improve bali cattle breeders behavior is extension conducted by a professional extension workers, with an innovative extension materials, reliable extension institution, and adequate extension financing, through a group approach. Based on the research results, it is suggested that: 1) the Government should to improve the professionalism of extension workers, innovative extension materials, forming reliable extension institution, and provide adequate extension financing; 2) Breeders is to become an active member of groups breeder.

Abstract

One of the alternative tourism destinations in Tomohon City is agrotourism in Rurukan and Rurukan I District, East Tomohon Sub-District, North Sulawesi Province. Agrotourism has potential to be developed due to the strategic location, the location is in the highland with beautiful scenery, they have several horticultural activities, as well as cultural diversity that has become a great tourist attraction. The informant of this study were selected using purposive sampling that based on several specified criteria in accordance with the study objectives. Data collection methods were carried by conducting FGD (Focus Group Discussion). Data analysis methods were using descriptive analysis, SWOT and QSPM. The results showed that the main potential of community-based agrotourism development in Rurukan and Rurukan I District is the attraction aspect, including horticulture development centers, agriculture and regional culture, food and beverages processed agricultural products, tourist sites, traditional art, and art performances. The SWOT matrix result showed several alternatives strategic, including agriculture and local culture development and conservation; promotion of the agrotourism area; comfort and security maintenance in the area; agrotourism extension; agrotourism development and skill trainning; quality and quantity improvement on agrotourism location; and also human resource skill improvement. The priority strategy based on QSPM analysis is the agriculture and local culture development and conservation. Community, in this case farmers, and local government should be able to utilize the strengths and opportunities of the agrotourism potential to be able to minimize the existing weaknesses and threats. Based on the study, the recommendation including conservation on agricultural culture, traditional customs and regional culture, create and implement agrotourism activities, also both community and the government should prepare their-selves as skilled and innovative agrotourism players.

Abstract

Lahan pertanian memiliki peranan penting sebagai media peningkatan penghasilan, taraf hidup, dan kesejahteraan petani yang ada didalamnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk 1) menganalisis faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi motivasi petani dalam mengkonversi lahan sawah, 2) menganalisis dampak sosial dan ekonomi terhadap konversi lahan di Subak Petangan Kecamatan Denpasar Utara. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Subak Petangan Kecamatan Denpasar Utara yang dipilih secara sampling jenuh (sensus) dengan populasi berjumlah 40 orang yaitu pemilik penggarap. Instrument yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah kuisioner, Teknik analisis data menggunakan metode analisis faktor dan analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan konversi lahan dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor internal dibentuk oleh jumlah anggota keluarga, pendidikan, kebutuhan hidup (Konsep Teori Hierarki Kebutuhan Maslow), pendapatan hasil pertanian. Faktor eksternal dibentuk oleh indikator gaya hidup, minat generasi muda untuk bertani, akses pengelolaan lahan, ketersediaan air irigasi. Dampak konversi lahan terhadap sosial yaitu  terhambatnya saluran irigasi, timbulnya konflik antara petani dengan pemilik pemukiman, terkikisnya nilai budaya di Subak Petangan Kecamatan Denpasar Utara, dan dampak ekonomi yaitu berkurangnya sumber pangan, petani tidak mempunyai pekerjaan tetap, meningkatnya tingkat penganguran, adanya perubahan pola kehidupan petani.  Seluruh pihak terkait baik pemerintah maupun prajuru subak harus mampu untuk mengontrol dan membuat program atau aturan dalam menekan laju konversi lahan. Pada dampak sosial dan ekonomi dalam konversi lahan di Subak Petangan sangat berdampak buruk terhadap lingkungan dan budaya pada lahan sawah Subak Petangan.
