Abstract

ABSTRACT Wastewater from laboratory glassware washing activities contains organic materials. Decomposing bacteria could increase the biomass by utilizing organic matter as a source of carbon. This research was aimed to describe the influence of commercial probiotic application in reducing organic matter content of Proling laboratory wastewater. The research was conducted from February to July 2016 in Aquatic Microbiology Laboratory. The experiment consists of several treatments, those were wastewater (L), wastewater+molase (LM), and wastewater+molase+bacteria from commercial probiotic (LMB). Major parameters observed were COD and bacteria abundance. The results showed that there was significant response difference between molasses and without molasses treatment. Based on COD, the most influenced treatment in decreasing organic matter were LM and LMB. These treatments could decrease COD up to 97% and 91%. Furthermore, the abundance of bacteria in molasses treatment was higher than without molasses. Based on this study, the most effective treatment in reducing organic matter was LMB.  Keywords: bacteria, laboratory wastewater, molasses, organic matter

Abstract

ABSTRAK : Penentuan status mutu perairan perlu dilakukan sebagai acuan dalam melakukan pemantauan pencemaran kualitas air. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui tingkat pencemaran melalui nilai Indeks Pencemaran (IP) di perairan Muara Sungai Jodoh, Kota Batam. Lokasi pengambilan sampel berdasarkan metode purposive sampling di tujuh stasiun pada perairan Muara Sungai Jodoh Kelurahan Tanjung Uma Kota Batam. Parameter yang digunakan pada penelitian ini yaitu suhu, TSS, pH, DO, BOD, salinitas, dan bakteri coliform. Sebagai pembanding, digunakan baku mutu air laut untuk biota laut berdasarkan KEPMEN LH No.51 Tahun 2004. Perhitungan nilai IP dilakukan mengacu pada Keputusan Menteri Lingkungan Hidup Nomor 115 Tahun 2003 Tentang Penentuan Status Mutu Air. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa perairan muara Sungai Jodoh Kelurahan Tanjung Uma Kota Batam pada saat pasang maupun surut kualitas perairan tergolong tercemar ringan.  ABSTRACT : The determination of water quality status needs to be done as a reference to monitor water pollution. This study aimed to determine the level of pollutions through the level of Index Pollution (IP) in Jodoh River estuary, Tanjung Uma, Batam City . The location of sampling based on purposive sampling method of seven station in the waters of Jodoh River, Tanjung Uma, Batam City. Physical chemichal parameters used in this study were temperature, TSS, pH, DO, BOD, salinity and coliform bacteria. The water quality results were compared with water quality standards based on KEPMEN LH No.51 2004 for marine biotas. IP calculation was reference to the Minister of Environment No.115 2003 concerning on determination of water quality status. Based on the results of this study showed the estuary waters in the Jodoh River, Tanjung Uma, Batam City, when at high and low tide the water quality were slightly polluted.

Abstract

Abstract. Sei Pulai reservoir is located on Bintan Island, Riau Islands Province. Water quality monitoring of Sei Pulai reservoir needs to be done considering that this reservoir is a source of raw water for the people of Tanjungpinang City and surrounding areas.The objective of this recent study were to determine the diversity and structure of phytoplankton community, also determine the water quality of litoral zone at Sei Pulai reservoir based on phytoplankton as bioindicator. Sampling points were chosen by purposive sampling method. Phtoplankton and water sample were collected in three parts namely inlet, middle, and outlet of the reservoir. Species richness of phytoplankton in littoral zone Sei Pulai reservoir consisted of 3 divisions and 18 species. Phytoplankton abundance in the inlet of reservoir showed moderate abundance. In theotehrs hand, the middle and outlet of the reservoir showed low abundance. Based on ecological index, phytoplankton community was categorized low diversity, moderate uniformity, and no dominance. The saprobic index value obtained from the analysis of the phytoplankton community more moderate organic matter or ?/?-mesosaprobic. Keywords : bio-indicator, community structure, littoral zone, phytoplankton, saprobic index Abstrak. Waduk Sei Pulai terletak di Pulau Bintan, Provinsi Kepulauan Riau. Monitoring terhadap kualitas perairan waduk Sei Pulai perlu dilakukan mengingat waduk ini menjadi merupakan sumber air baku masyarakat Kota Tanjungpinang dan sekitarnya. Kajian yang dilakukan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji jenis dan struktur komunitas fitoplankton serta kualitas perairan di zona litoral waduk Sei Pulai berdasarkan fitoplankton sebagai bioindikator. Lokasi pengambilan sampel ditentukan berdasarkan metode purposive sampling. Sampel fitoplankton dan air diambil pada tiga bagian waduk yaitu masukan air (inlet), tengah, serta keluaran air (outlet). Fitoplankton yang ditemukan di perairan zona litoral waduk Sei Pulai terdiri dari tiga divisi dan 18 jenis fitoplankton. Nilai kelimpahan fitoplankton di bagian inlet menunjukkan kelimpahan sedang. Bagian tengah dan outlet waduk menunjukkan kelimpahan rendah. Hasil penilaian indeks ekologi menunjukkan bahwa komunitas fitoplankton memiliki keanekaragaman rendah, keseragaman sedang, dan tidak ada yang mendominansi. Berdasarkan indeks saprobik diketahui bahwa di zona litoral Waduk Sei Pulai terjadi pencemaran bahan organik sedang (Kategori ?/?-mesosaprobik). Abstract

ABSTRACTEcological aspect (morphometry, a complexity of community structure, trophic state, and carrying capacity) are one of basic information to build comprehensive management concept of aquatic ecosystem, as Lake Cilala.  The concept was addressed to develop ornamental fish floating cage and natural fishery activity.  Lake Cilala is a longwise shape small lake with maximum length, average width, and average depth as 1141 m, 161 m, 2.67 m respectively.  Lake Cilala has various genera of phytoplankton and zooplankton, 8 genera of benthos, 5 genera of aquatic plants, and 12 fish species including planktivore, herbivore, and carnivore fishes.  Those organisms established food chains, by grazing and detritus food chain.  The trophic state of Lake Cilala was categorized as middle to heavy eutrophic level by Trophic State Index (TSI).  The carrying capacity analysis of Lake Cilala is 130 tons/year. It is resulted a possibility to increase ornamental fish floating cage to 165 units from 300 existed units. Furthermore, the carrying capacity for natural fish was reached 3.77 tons/year. Keywords: carrying capacity, food chain, lake fisheries, small lake management, trophic state

Abstract

Penelitian keanekaragaman fitoplankton dan beberapa parameter fisika dan kimia perairan perlu dilakukan untuk mengetahui kondisi suatu perairan. Penelitian keanekaragaman fitoplankton di perairan estuari Sei Terusan dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2016. Fitoplankton yang ditemukan di perairan Sei Terusan terdiri dari 3 kelas yaitu kelas Dinophyceae, Coscinodiscophyceae, dan Bacillariophyceae. Kelas Dinophyceae terdiri dari Ceratium sp., Protoperidinium sp.,dan Prorocentrum gracile. Kelas Coscinodiscophyceae terdiri dari Coscinodiscus sp., Skeletonema sp., dan Rhizosolenia sp. Kelas Bacillariophyceae terdiri dari Chaetoceros sp., Pleurosigma sp., Cylindrotheca closterium, dan Pseudo-nitzschia sp. Kelimpahan terbesar dari 4 stasiun pengamatan ditemukan pada kelas Dinophyceae yang mendominansi di semua stasiun pengamatan. Indeks keanekaragaman dari 4 stasiun pengamatan adalah 0,052 – 1,872, indeks keanekaragaman ini < 2,306 sehingga termasuk kategori keanekaragaman rendah dan kestabilan komunitas rendah. Indeks keseragaman fitoplankton di 3 stasiun dari 4 stasiun pengamatan cukup rendah berkisar 0,032 – 0,050 dengan indeks dominansi 0,975 – 0,986. Dengan rendahnya indeks keseragaman menyebabkan adanya dominansi spesies tertentu dan menunjukkan adanya tekanan ekologis perairan. Ceratium sp. dari kelas Dinophyceae mendominansi di semua stasiun pengamatan.Phytoplankton diversity research and some physical and chemical parameters of waters needs to be done to determine the condition of a body of water. Phytoplankton diversity research in waters of the Sei Terusan estuarine was conducted in December 2016. Phytoplankton were found in the waters of the Sei Terusan consists of three classes, namely Dinophyceae, Coscinodiscophyceae, and Bacillariophyceae. Dinophyceae class were consisted of Ceratium sp., Protoperidinium sp., and Prorocentrum gracile. Coscinodiscophyceae class consists of Coscinodiscus sp., Skeletonema sp., and Rhizosolenia sp. Bacillariophyceae class consists of Chaetoceros sp., Pleurosigma sp., Cylindrotheca Closterium, and Pseudo-Nitzschia sp. The higest phytoplankton abundance were found in Dinophyceae that dominated at all observation stations. Shannon Diversity indice of four observation stations was 0.052-1.872, this diversity indice < 2.306 thus categorized low diversity and community stability was low. Eveness indice of phytoplankton in three stations of four observation stations was low enough ranged from 0.032-0.050 with dominance index from 0.975- 0.986. The low Eveness indice due to dominance of certain species and indicate their ecological pressure waters. Ceratium sp. (Dinophyceae) was dominate at all observation stations.

Abstract

Bauxite is one of the mining activities, which can lead to the phenomenon of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD). Activities developed by bauxite mining, since the beginning of operations are able to degrade environmental conditions and cause modifications to the main structure of the environment. Alternative to reducing the negative impact of bauxite mining production with re-utilize abandoned bauxite which forms puddles. The puddle of water on bauxite post-mining have potential for Aquaculture. Each sampling site is located in 5 (five) site based on post bauxite mining activities and determine the heavy metal concentraion of Pb and Cr. Soil and sediment samples were collected to analyze the grain size.  Total heavy metal concentrations using Atom Flame Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Analysis of heavy metal concentration (Pb dan Cr) with enrichment factor (EF) value of heavy metals Pb indicates extremely high enrichment for post-mining bauxite site at Simpang Dompak, Dompak and Wacopek (EF> 40). Enrichment Factor (EF) Cr on post-mining bauxite post in Simpang Dompak and Sei.Carang site have EF value > 5 indicating this site contamination with Cr. Index Value, Igeo > 5 indicating very strongly contaminated Pb and Cr with Igeo <5 is contaminated moderately. Water quality in Post-mining bauxite shows good condition of water. In general, the post-mining area of ​​bauskit have potential for aquaculture activities although there is high Pb contamination on the substrate but the water quality parameter can utilized for dynamic organisms such as fish. Proper aquaculture techniques to manage the post-mining bauxite in order to be optimally utilized for cultivation activities.

Abstract

Inventarisasi keanekargaman mikrofungi akuatik perlu dilakukan untuk dapat menambah informasi mengenai jenis-jenis baru maupun spesifik yang terdapat di perairan tertentu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman mikrofungi akuatik yang berada di perairan Madong, Kota Tanjungpinang, Kepulauan Riau. Penelitian keanekaragaman mikrofungi dilakukan melalui metode survei pada tiga stasiun (daerah mangrove, pemukiman nelayan dan Keramba Jaring Apung, serta pesisir kampung Madong). Sampel dikumpulkan dengan menggambil sampel serasah yang berada di perairan (akar, daun, ranting mangrove, serta rumput laut). Isolasi dan kultur mikrofungi akuatik dilakukan di laboratorium. Isolat mikrofungi yang tumbuh dan berhasil diidentikasi yaitu: Aspergillus sp., Epicoccum sp., Colletotrichum sp., Penicillium sp., dan Stemphylium sp.

Abstract

On the washing process of bauxite mining will produce waste, that was red mud. Those red mud will be streamed in pond of tailing bauxite. Eleocharis sp. has been pioneer plant in pond of tailing bauxite. The objective of this study was identify the epiphytes aquatic microfungi in pond of tailing bauxite, at Tanjungpinang, Bintan Island. Samples were collected by three different stations from Eleocharis sp. density with three samples points in each stations. In this research, the results of epiphyte aquatic microfungi were cultured got five genera and six different species of aquatic microfungi, such as Mucor sp., Curvularia sp. Abstract

Senggarang merupakan salah satu kelurahan di Kota Tanjungpinang yang memiliki kolam pengendapan limbah tailing bauksit. Fitoplankton merupakan salah satu organisme pionir pada ekosistem yang baru terbentuk. Berdasarkan hasil penelusuran, belum ditemukan penelitian mengenai komunitas fitoplankton pada kolam pengendapan limbah tailing bauksit. Pelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis, kelimpahan, serta indeks ekologi fitoplankton yang terdapat pada kolam pengendapan limbah tailing bauksit di Senggarang, Kota Tanjungpinang. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada empat stasiun: inlet, outlet, tengah, serta tepi perairan.Metode yang digunakan dalam pengambilan sampel fitoplankton adalah metode dinamis secara vertikal. Pencacahan fitoplankton menggunakan metode sensus. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelimpahan fitoplankton berkisar 1.692-2.525 sel/L. Tiga dari empat stasiun didominasi oleh divisi Charophyta, serta satu stasiun lainnya didominasi oleh divisi Chrysophyta. Dominasi divisi Charophyta dipengaruhi oleh tingginya kelimpahan genus Mougeotia sp. Bagian tengah kolong memiliki indeks ekologi yang lebih baik dari pada tepi perairan. Keanekaragam yang rendah pada semua stasiun menujukan kondisi perairan yang labil dan komunitas fitoplankton masih rentan terhadap gangguan. Hal ini sesuai dengan kategori kolong pengendapan limbah tailing bauksit di senggarang tergolong muda (< 5 tahun).

Abstract

Abstract. The objective of this study was to determine the community structure of macrozoobenthic orgamism in Senggarang creek, Bintan island, Riau Islands. Samples were taken from four stations by purpossive method. Macrozoobenthic were collected by surber net, there were three replications in each station.  The result showed that  there were found six phylums and 17 genera  of macrozoobenthic. Macrobrachium sp. was the higest density. The higest density was found in third station (middle of river, no antropogenic influenced) about 140 ind m-2. The diversity and similarity indices were medium, with low dominance indice. Based on macrozoobenthic organism, the environmetal condition of Senggarang creek was stabile.Keywords: Bintan, creek, Macrobrachium sp., macrozoobenthic, Senggarang Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji struktur komunitas makrozoobenthos di aliran sungai di Senggarang, Kota Tanjungpinang. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan pada empat stasiun yang ditentukan secara purposive. Sampel diambil menggunakan surber net, sebanyak tiga kali ulangan pada masing-masing stasiun. Makrozoobenthos yang ditemukan di perairan aliran sungai Senggarang ditemukan  6 filum dan 17 spesies. Jenis makrozoobenthos yang paling tinggi kepadatannya dari semua setiap stasiun adalah Macrobrachium sp. Kepadatan makrozoobentos tertinggi yaitu pada stasiun 3 (bagian tengah sungai, tidak ada aktivitas manusia) dengan nilai kepadatan sebesar 140 ind/m2. Indeks keanekaragaman tergolong sedang, indeks keseragaman sedang, indeks dominansi rendah. Berdasarkan keberadaan makrozoobenthos, lingkungan perairan sungai di Senggarang relatif stabil.Kata kunci: Bintan, Macrobrachium sp., makrozoobenthos, Senggarang, sungai
