Abstract

Kerinci Lake tourism area is located in Kerinci Seblat National Park area, consists of swamp and lake areas that maintain its beauty and natural ecosystem. This research was conducted to study and to analyze the existing condition of Kerinci Lake tourism area and to arrange the development and managementplan of this area. This research used survey method. The result of this research wasa development and management recommendation, consisted of space concept and siteplan according to the nature preservation, conservation and convenience so that  the potency can be used spreadly according to the environmental and cultural value of Kerinci District.The recommended development and management plan is  spatial zoning, such as intensive recreation zone, semi-intensive recreation zone, passive recreation zone, conservation zone and circulation zone. The zoning  includes a space arrangement to confined the recreation activity based to the confined source of activity?s capacity and the visit intensity. It also puts some attentions to the planing and confined development rules in Kerinci District. The next zoning is the management zoning such as intensive management zone, semi-intensive management zone, and non intensive management zone. This zoning based on thelevel and amount of the visitors, the activity level, visit duration and the damage (vandal) level in a recreation site.

Abstract

This research reveals visitor perceptions of climate comfort in nature-based tourism areas in Indonesia. We combined a survey and modeling to calculate the comfort score based on Tourism Climate Index (TCI) and Holiday Climate Index (HCI) in three tourism sites of Ecopark Ancol, Bogor Botanical Garden, and Cibodas Botanical Garden. During the survey, we collected data on climate comfort perceptions and the role of the weather on the comfort. Totally, 793 respondents of tourism visitors participated in the study. Our results showed that almost all of visitors (>95%) stated that the weather affected the climate comfort. Interestingly, the weather condition did not influence on the decisions where the tourism site to visit. The level of perceived climate comfort for the sites were neutral (Ecopark, 57.3%), and comfortable (Bogor Botanical Garden, 60%; Cibodas Botanical Garden, 78.4%). Then by modeling we obtained the best method to calculate the comfort based on the following index: (i) TCI with Physiological Equivalent Temperature (PET) Tianjin for Ecopark (57.2), (ii) HCI for Bogor Botanical Garden (59), and (iii) HCI with PET Tianjin for Cibodas Botanical Garden (77.6). Further, perception on climate comfort was significantly difference among sex, age, and education level of the visitors. In warmer environmental condition, the older people and women feel more comfortable. Our finding revealed that topography was weak correlated with comfort perception. By understanding visitor perceptions, strategies and appropriate actions can be developed to increase comfort in the nature-based tourism industry.

Abstract

Abstract Environment quality is worsening every year; building?s sector contributes 66 % of fossil fuels   pollution sources. Ways in building constructions needs to be changed in more environmental friendly manner. Today, in spite of new technological advances in techniques and materials, buildings are continuously being built but lack of climatic consideration. Indigenous people, such as the Inner Baduy community, from longstanding experience have developed systems as their local wisdoms adapting to its environment and buildings in a sustainable manner. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of traditional knowledge in terms of providing environmental friendly buildings and the existence of documentation as a knowledge base of an Indonesian traditional settlement in a hot humid climate?s mode. The study results are reconstructions on, building design will be presented in technical drawings and drawn with Sketch up computer program. Teknik konstruksi bangunan perlu diubah dengan cara yang lebih ramah lingkungan. Meskipun kemajuan dalam teknologi pembangunan berkembang pesat, dan  bangunan yang terus menerus dibangun  akan tetapi dalam penggunaan teknik dan material bangunan tidak mempertimbangkan kerusakan iklim yang ditimbulkan. Masyarakat adat, seperti masyarakat Baduy Dalam telah berpengalaman sejak lama dalam konservasi lingkungan yang dilaksanakan sebagai kearifan lokal mereka termasuk dalam pembangunan konstruksi rumah. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah 1) untuk mengevaluasi dan mendapatkan  pengetahuan dalam bangunan tradisional dan 2) Mendokumentasikan konsep bangunan tradisional Indonesia sebagai dasar dalam pembangunan pada  wilayah beriklim panas lembab. Hasil penelitian ini bangunan di Baduy Dalam merupakan bangunan yang berkelanjutan. Bangunan ini direkonstruksi dan disajikan dalam gambar teknik yang digambar dengan program komputer Sketchup 2008. Abstract

The objective of the research is to analyzethe relationship patterns of green open space availability with temperatures in Palu city. The research methods are data extraction and mathematical analysis. Some research resultswere gained, i.e. (1) during 13 years from 1997 up to 2010 is  found that the greenery open spaces were decreased from 48,86 % to 29,48 %; (2) the decreasing the greenery open spaces is known will increase the maximum of air temperatur, significantly;(3) The ideal percentage of urban forest at Palu City is 18 648 ha (47%) of the wide of Palu city. Abstract

Sentul City as a new city must be able to meet the water needs of its residents. Sentul City has annual rainfall up to 4 000 mm/year but most are rare groundwater areas. With the topography, its annual rainfall, and proximity to the river, Sentul City is a good potential to make lake and rain garden as retention pond and for replenish groundwater. An analysis of land suitability of green and blue open spaces is needed to optimizing the land use of Sentul City, especially as green and open spaces. This study was aimed to do land evaluation of green and blue open spaces in Sentul City. The research is conducted by land evaluation method using Geographic Information System (GIS). The analysis result shows that the suitable land for park was 24% of the area that moderately suitable and was 54% that marginally suitable. Land that are moderately suitable for urban forest are 25% and 75% are marginally suitable. Land that are moderately suitable for golf are 77% of the area, and 23% are marginally suitable. Land that are suitable for lake as retention pond are 11% of the area, and land that are suitable for rain garden are 22% of the area.

Abstract

Indigenous people, such as the Inner Baduy community, from longstanding experience have developed systems as their local wisdoms adapting to its environment and houses in a sustainable manner. The objective of this study is to emphasize the importance of traditional knowledge in terms of providing low input energy buildings and settlement. A reconstruction of the Inner Baduy house has been drawn as a documentation of an Indonesian traditional house building in a tropical humid climate. The reconstruction is presented in a form of a technical drawings such as plan, view and section  drawing by using SkecthUp computer program. Baduy local wisdom of community is significant  in houseing structure development process. Indications by all the structure materials is taken from local sources such as rumbia roof and bamboo?s wall are taken from leuweung lembur and bantaran sungai. Development system?s local wisdom also very economic and efficient using pre-fabrication system. Key  words:  ecological design, environmental friendly, traditional building, sustainable construction

Abstract

Ciliwung riverbank has been affected by settlement occupation. Both concrete and another retaining wall system have been built to avoid flood and erosion to the settlement that has existed adjacent to the river. Built environment as human disturbance can trigger the change of species richness of ground vegetation in the Ciliwung riverbank of Bogor City. The research objective is to study the difference of ground vegetation biodiversity in three different types of riverbank based on its condition: natural, semi-natural, and constructed riverbanks. Point method and photographic sampling are used. Five replications of a square metre plot at three transects were placed at four sites sampling along 250 m each from the three different types of riverbank. Images of the plots are trained using sample point to overcome the difficulties in the field observation and statistical analysis. The result discovered that species richness in the natural riverbank is significantly higher than in semi-natural and constructed riverbank. Yet, no significance of species richness is shown between semi-natural and constructed riverbank. Total species of ground vegetation that we found were 55 species. Each different type of riverbank has its own highest species coverage: Asystasia nemorum (55.00%) in the natural riverbank, Pilea nummulariifolia (33.07%) in the semi-natural riverbank, and Pogonatherum crinitum (52.80%) in the constructed riverbank. The study concluded that the construction in the riverbank largely altered the biodiversity of ground vegetation in the urban riverbank. The outcomes suggest that the remnant of natural riverbank in the urban landscape should be highly protected from urban development to preserve its biodiversity. Also, species found could be potentially developed as landscape plants to support urban river planning, design, and management.

Abstract

Ciliwung River flows from Bogor district, Bogor city, Depok, to Jakarta. The river faces many problems, especially settlement occupation on its riparian zones. The problem has damaged its natural ecological structures and the agroforestry practices such as mixed gardens, forest gardens, and pekarangan (home garden) in riparian landscape. This research objective is to analyze the structure, function, and dynamics of riparian agroforestry landscape of Ciliwung River in Bogor City. The landscape ecological index analysis approach is used to quantify the structure, function, and dynamics of the landscape. The existing land use in Ciliwung riparian in Bogor City has been dominated by the constructed land, such as settlements and housing. Those land use can be found with an area of 33.78 ha (60.50%) in the upper segment and 34.65 ha (56.54%) in the under segment. Meanwhile, in the middle segment is still dominated by the agroforestry area, such as forest gardens, mixed garden, and pekarangan with an area of 17.59 ha (55.23%). The function of these structures is as the core habitat and movement media of material, energy, animal, and human. The spatial dynamics of the Ciliwung riparian landscape in Bogor City revealed that the more patches of settlements and housing on a landscape, the more patches of pekarangan on the landscape.Keywords: Agroforestry landscape, Ciliwung River, landscape ecology, riparian areas

Abstract

Pekarangan is a type of traditional Indonesian home gardens that utilize the land around the house with the status and clear boundaries. Pekarangan in rural areas have high agrobiodiversity, good agroecosystem and should be optimized as an area to meet the needs of daily life, especially to support the diversification of food consumption of the household. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to analyze the ecology characteristics of pekarangan to support food consumption diversification of the household. The study was conducted in Bogor Regency, which located in altitudes at 165 ? 460 m height with high level of urbanization, from December 2013 to June 2014. Diversity of food in pekarangan, specially the crops and livestocks, is the focus of this research. The results of the study showed that the most common crops in Bogor Regency are vegetables, fruits, and spices plants. Analysis of plant diversity index showed that the pekarangan in Bogor Regency has a diversity in the mid category (1.95) with the dominance of seasonal crops. Diversification of food in pekarangan can be done by optimizing the existing area, utilization of all zoning for the cultivation of diverse functions crops and livestock. For diversification of food consumption, the owner should use different types of food, as well as considering the crop calendar to a wide variety of food that can be consumed on a daily basis. Therefore, it's necessary to educate the housewives about the potency of diversification crops in pekarangan for consumption, strong motivation and assistance from the government, as well as optimizing the role of KWT group to optimize the role of pekarangan for the diversification of food.

Abstract

Land  cover  changes will affect the ecological condition of  the watershed.  Currently, the  conversion of  natural forests into agricultural land has been one of  the main  causes of  deforestation  in  Indonesia. The  changes  could  give impact to  erosion,  increased  run off  and  sedimentation,  loss of  biodiversity,  change of micro  climate,  the release of carbon and Green House Gas (GHG) into the air, etc. This problem has been going on in Watershed Ciliwung.  Forest area, as sources of carbon deposits and carbon absorbents, has limited area along with increasing extents of build up areas. Therefore, it?s estimated the ecological changes will be extended, then will affect the amount of carbon  stocks in Watershed Ciliwung. The objectives of research are  to determine  land cover changes during  the  last twenty years,  to analyze actual carbon stocks in watershed Ciliwung, and to analyze the effect of land cover changes in over twenty years of greenhouse gases, especially CO2. This research used three samples plot on each of the existing land cover. Biomass approach was used in order to estimate carbon stock. Changes in carbon stocks were calculated by using interpolation based on  the actual  carbon  stocks  in 2011. The  research  results  showed  that build up areas was  increased  153,36% during twenty years. The highest potencial carbon stocks was  found in pines forests, which is 144,99 tons/ha. Over the last twenty years, carbon stocks in watershed Ciliwung is declined 42.329,75 tons carbon or 155.350,182 tons CO2e.
