Abstract

Egg parasitoids of the diamonback mont, Plutella xylostella (L.) (Lepidoptera : Yponomeutidae) have never been reported in Indonesia. In this study, eggs of P.xylostella were collected from cabbage planation in Cisarua-Bogor, Ciloto-Cianjur, Cikole-Lembang (West Java), Tawangmangu (Central Java), and Malang (East Java). Three species of parasitoids were colleted from all areas, Trichogrammatoidea armigera Nagaraja emerged from eggs colledted from Cisarua-Bogor, Cikole-Lembang, and Ciloto-Cianjur, and Trichogramma flandersi Nagaraja and Nagarkatti (Hymenoptera : Trichogrammatidae) was only found from the eggs collected from Tawangmangu. The morphological character of the parasitoids are discussed

Abstract

Eggs of Helicoverpa armigera (Hu?bner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) on its host plants could beparasitized by some species of parasitoids, especially of the genus Trichogrammatoidea andTrichogramma. This research was aimed to study the population dynamics of egg parasitoids of H.armigera on unsprayed fields of cotton monoculture and intercropped with maize. The plot size ofeach field was 19 m x 20 m, with five replicates. We collected H. armigera eggs from both fieldsperiodically since 23 days after planting (dap) to 100 dap. The eggs were collected on 9 sample units(size of sample unit: 1 m2) in 7-days interval. The number of collected and parasitized eggs wasrecorded and the emerged parasitoids were identified to species level. The result showed that thefluctuation pattern of H. armigera egg population was not different on cotton monoculture and cottonintercropped with maize. The parasitoid population was relatively high during the flowering phase ofcotton and maize. The parasitoids of H. armigera eggs found in cotton monoculture and cottonintercropped with maize were T?toidea armigera, T?toidea guamensis, T?toidea bactrae bactrae,T?toidea bactrae fumata, T. chilonis and T. chilotraeae . The dominant species on early season untilthe flowering phase of the plants was T?toidea armigera, while on the latter phase of the plantphenology was T. chilotraeae. Implication of this population dynamics and the succession of theparasitoids in biological control are discussed.

Abstract

Anagrus nilaparvatae (Pang et Wang) is an egg-parasitoid of rice brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål). The objective of this study was to develop a mass-rearing technique of A. nilaparvatae. Mass-rearing was done using a plastic box (14 cm × 18.5 cm × 18.5 cm, made of plastic-mica, the upper side equipped with a 10 cm test tube), placed on a tray with rice seedlings containing an estimated of 11,130 eggs of N. lugens. About 355 adult parasitoids were successfully released per box when each box was infested with 50 parasitoids. The number of parasitoids produced were reduced to 164 adults when the infestation was made at 100 parasitoids per box. The emergence of parasitoids started around 07:00 am until 04:00 pm with the highest rate (36.2%) occured at 10:00 am. One plastic box cost only Rp10.000,-; thus the estimate cost to produce one parasitoid using this tecnique was Rp60,- These findings suggest that the plastik box is a simple and inexpensive technique for mass-rearing of A. nilaparvatae.

Abstract

We studied the distribution of the Yellow Crazy Ant (Anoplolepis gracilipes) Smith (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) in Bogor Botanical Garden (BBG). Biological invasions by A. gracilipes can negatively impact other species. Individual nests of this ant can form supercolonies within which aggression is absent, intraspecific aggression occurs between workers from different supercolonies. The aim of this research was to study aggression between and resource discovery of different A. gracilipes supercolonies in BBG. Intraspecific aggression was calculated as three different aggression indices obtained by performing intercolonial arena encounters. Resource discovery was measured as time until honey baits in known distances to colony entrances were discovered. In 2013, we encountered five spatially distinct nest clusters of A. gracilipes in BBG, which cover ca. 25% of its area. Aggression tests showed that workers from KRB 1 were significantly more aggressive towards each other. The absence of intercolonial aggression between three of five nest clusters suggested that they actually belong to the same supercolony. On average, A. gracilipes needed less than 1 hour to find the food on bait plate in 20 m distance. We found 3 supercolonies of A. gracilipes which derived from 5 spatially distinct cluster of nests in BBG.

Abstract

Kunci identifikasi lalat buah memberikan informasi taksonomi yang berkaitan dengan identifikasi spesies lalat buah berdasarkan karakter yang terdapat pada imago lalat buah. Kunci ini dibuat berdasarkan koleksi lalat buah dari Kabupaten Bogor dan sekitarnya. Spesies lalat buah yang dideskripsikan dalam kunci identifikasi terdiri dari 18 spesies lalat buah yang termasuk ke dalam 2 genus dan 4 subgenus, yaitu Bactrocera (Bactrocera) albistrigata de meijere, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) carambolae Drew & Hancock, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) caudata Fabricus, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) latifrons White & Liquido, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) limbifera Bezzi, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) melastomatos Drew & Hancock, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) moluccensis Perkins, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) occipitalis Drew & Hancock, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) papayae Drew & Hancock, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) tau Walker, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) umbrosa Fabricius, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) usitata Drew & Hancock, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) verbascifoliae Drew & Hancock, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) vulta Hardy, Bactrocera (Bulladacus) mcgregori Bezzi, Bactrocera (Zeugodacus) calumniata Hardy, Bactrocera (Bactrocera) cucurbitae Coquillet, Dacus (Callantra) longicornis Wiedemann. Abstract

Karakter kebugaran, seperti keperidian, lama hidup, dan fertilitas sering digunakan untuk menggambarkan kapasitas reproduksi suatu spesies. Oleh karena itu, kebugaran parasitoid sering digunakan sebagai indikator potensial dari suatu kualitas keberhasilan di lapangan. Karakter tersebut dapat pula menggambarkan persistensi populasi parasitoid di lapangan selama periode tertentu. Dalam pengelolaan hama, kebugaran parasitoid menjadi indikator penting untuk kesuksesan pengendalian hayati. Beberapa faktor yang berkaitan dengan kualitas parasitoid adalah pengaruh nang, lama generasi dan asal-usul parasitoid. Path analysis digunakan untuk menganalisa pola hubungan dan keterkaitan antar variabel kebugaran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasikan indikator sukses dari perilaku parasitisasi serta mempelajari mekanisme hubungan sebab akibat (causal meechanism) antar beberapa karakter kebugaran dari (T. armigera) yang menyerang (C. capholonica) dan H. armigera. Hasil analisis menunjukan adanya korelasi yang tinggi dengan lama hidup. Pada inang Cocryra, ditemukan bahwa panjang sayap depan memiliki nilai positif dengan parasitisme, sedangkan ukuran kepala dan laju keberhasilan hidup dapat dikategorikan sebagai indirect indicator melalui jmlah telur yang dihasilkan.

Abstract

Trichogrammatoidea armigera and Trichogramma japonicum are polyphagous egg parastioids, that are important as natural enemies. The objective of this research was to study the effect of host deprivation on reproductive capacity of T. armigera and T. japonicum. This study consists of 8 treatments, host deprivation : 0 hour, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours, and 48 hours. Host were replaced every 24 hours. Results showed there are difference with respect of how the two parasitoids respond to the treatment. Deprivation of host for 3 hours in T. armigera resulted in the increase of egg production and parasitism rate. After 12 and 24 hours of not encountering any hosts, the numbers of eggs produced drastically decreased. Treatment on T. japonicum resulted in the reaction of fecundity and parasitism rate overall. Forty eight hours of host deprivation resulted in death of both parasitoids species within 2 days. None of the parasitoids seems to produce any egg.

Abstract

Research of the effect of adult feeding to longevity and fecundity of parasitoid Eriborus argenteopilosus Cameron (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) was conducted under laboratory conditions. Fitness was studied by feeding adults Eriborus with different types of food ( 10% honey, 10% yeast, aquadest). Results of the research indicated that fitness and longevity were highest when Eriborus was fed with 10% honey. There is a positive correlation between size and fecundity, suggesting certain measures of body length can be used as indicators of fitness.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to study behaviour and parasitism efficiency of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma chilotraeae in relation to host and parasitoid density under laboratory condition. Eggs of Corcyra cephalonica were used as hosts for Trichogramma chilotraeae. Five different host (egg) densities: 3, 6, 12, 24 and 48 eggs were provided to one and two active female parasitoids T. chilotraeae. Percentage of parasitism, female progeny, and selfsuperparasitism were counted. Results showed that, host density was found to have a strong effect on parasitism rate, female progeny and selfsuperparasitism. Two parameters, parasitism and selfsuperparasitism decreases with increasing number of host density, in contrast, female progeny increase with increasing host density. Parasitoid density affected selfsuperparasitism and female progeny only on one level of host density (3 hosts) but not to all parameters of other density treatments.

Abstract

Transformation two cry genes (cryIB-cryIAa) and transformation with a single the cry1B gene under the control of a wound-inducible maize proteinase inhibitor gene (mpi) promoter were two approaches that were used to get resistant rice to the rice stemborer which may be had a durable resistance. To obtain information on the effectiveness of seven transgenic rice lines to the rice yellow stemborer S. incertulas, a test was conducted in greenhouse. The seven lines were 1). line 4.2.3 and 2) line 4.2.4 both contain fusion of two cry genes (cryIB-cryIAa); 3) line 3R9 and 4) line 3R7 lines both contain of mpi-cryIB gene; and 5) line 6.11 contains of cryIAb gene by particle bombardment, 6) line DT-cry (Azygous) that do not contain cry gene (null), and 7) DT-cry line contains cryIAb gene by Agrobacterium, and as a negative control, we used three non transgenic rice varieties i.e., Rojolele, Cilosari, and Ciherang. The result showed that transgenic rice lines, except DT-cry and DT-cry (Azygous) lines were effective to suppress damage by the insect, and showed an inhibition effect on the growth of S. incertulas, and had a high level ofresistance than non transgenic rice varieties had. There were differences on resistance value/level among transgenic rice lines. Based on the resistance value, 6.11 line was the highest followed by 4.2.4 line and 3R7 line, these lines were categorized as high resistance. Transgenic rice-4.2.3 line and 3R9 line were categorized as moderat resistance. DT-cry and DT-cry (Azygous) lines were susceptible.
