Abstract

Pathology anatomy changes in liver and bile duct of Aceh cattle infected with fasciola giganticABSTRACT. This study was conducted in Banda Aceh Municipality, Aceh Province to report the pathological changes in liver of Aceh cattle infected with Fasciola gigantica. In this study, livers of male aceh cattles were collected from slaughter area when Qurban in Idul Adha during two years (2011 to 2012). A total of 15 aceh cattle livers were examined. Establishment of F. gigantica were observed, and pathological changes of liver were identified. The result showed that out of 15 male Aceh cattle livers 6 (40%) were found infected with F. gigantica. The common pathological changes found in this study were the hepatic damage, and the bile ducts were changes in size and shape with the dilated lumen. The bile ducts were found filled with blackish brown exudate, which contained adult F. gigantica. In conclusion, fascioliasis is greatly responsible for hepatic damage, and currently expanding as an important veterinary public health problem.

Abstract

Kebutuhan energi yang meningkat di masyarakat, dapat berdampak terhadap kelangkaan bahan bakar minyak sehingga menjadi ketergantungan terhadap energi sebagai kebutuhan utama. Pengembangan diversifikasi produk berupa briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian sebagai upaya dalam mendapatkan bahan bakar alternatif. Sumber energi terbarukan yang berpotensi dijadikan bahan bakar briket berbahan baku tebu tibarau dan kulit durian. Upaya dan inovasi briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian yang dihasilkan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif sehingga mempunyai karakteristik terhadap kualitas dan performa yaitu nilai kalornya. Tahapan ujicoba dan evaluasi terhadap briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian diperlukan sebelum dikembangkan dan direkomendasi sebagai bahan bakar alternatif. Melalui teknologi proses pembuatan produk briket dengan kompaksi dan optimalisasi kandungan komposisi dan penggunaan jenis perekat sehingga diperoleh nilai kalornya. Dari penelitian ini diperoleh briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian yang direkomendasikan sebagai bahan bakar alternatif. Karakteristik nilai kalor briket campuran tebu tibarau dan kulit durian yang tertinggi dengan perekat gambir diperoleh sebesar 16967,91 kJ/Kg dan massa jenis 682,23 Kg/m3. Briket (biomassa) yang memiliki massa jenis (densitas) yang tinggi memiliki nilai kalor yang tinggi pula. Perbandingan komposisi campuran pada pembuatan briket yaitu 40% : 40% : 20%. Komposisi campuran antara bahan baku dengan perekat, besaran butir, gaya penekanan (kompaksi) sangat  mempengaruhi karakteristik nilai kalor dan massa jenis briket tersebut.

Abstract

Ascaridia galli populations in intestine of chickens treated with combination of excretory/secretory L3 and immunoglobulin yolkABSTRACT. The purpose of the present study was to determine the presence of worm populations in intestine of chickens vaccinated and combined with egg yolk to experimental Ascaridia galli infection. Amount of 18 head chickens were devided into six groups (A – F). Group A, the chickens were not vaccinated. Group B, the chickens were vaccinated with excretory/secretory of A. galli L3. Group C, the chickens were vaccinated with excretory/secretory of A. galli L3, challenged with dose 1000 L2, and treated ten times with 0,875 mg egg yolk with an interval of one day intra orally. Group D, the chickens were vaccinated with excretory/secretory of A. galli L3 and challenged with dose 1000 L2. Group E, the chickens were challenged with dose 1000 L2 and treated ten times with 0,875 mg egg yolk with an interval of one day intra orally. Group E, the chickens were challenged with dose 1000 L2. Intestinal worm burdens of infected groups were recorded. The result showed that excretory/secretory of A. galli L3 combined with egg yolk decreased significantly A. galli survival in intestine of laying hens. Vaccinations were positively correlated with worm burden at 12 weeks after chalanged. The results suggest that A. galli L3 excretory/secretory product contain potential antigen and that antibody-mediated mechanisms contribute to immune protection.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the histamine levels in repeated thawing beef. This research were using longisimus dorsi part (sirloin) of beef. Repeated thawing treatments of beef consisted of P1  as control without freezing, P2  as first thawing  after one week freezing, P3  as second thawing without freezing two weeks and P4 with freezing three weeks. The slices of beef was storage in freezer at temperature of -20ºC every weeks for three weeks. The thawing process was done by storage in refrigerator at temperature of 6ºC for 270 minutes after being removed from the storage in freezer every weeks for three weeks. PIC (Protease Inhibiting Cocktail) methode were used to extraction of enzyme in beef. Enzyme Link Imunosorbent Assay (ELISA) were used to detected the histamine levels with 450 nm wave length. The quantitative data from parameters were analyzed by descriptive. The results of the study concluded that repeated thawing beef in refrigerator at temperature of 6ºC could decrease the histamine levels.

Abstract

The purpouse of this study to examine antibiotics inhibition growth of Salmonella sp. isolated from feces of broiler chickens to chloramphenicol, gentamicin, and tetracycline in coparison with pineapple squeeze. Swab  sample  from  broiler  chicken  cloaca  was  cultured  to  nutrient  broth  media  and incubated at 37°C temperature for 24 hours. Culture was compared with Mc Farland 3 standardization, and separated on surface of Muller Hinton Agar (MHA). Antibiotic sensitivity was tested by mean of  chloramphenicol, gentamisin, and tetrasiklin in coparison with pineapple squeeze. The antibiotic disks (Oxoid) were put on the surface of MHA media which had inoculated with Salmonella sp. bacteria. Antibiotic sensitivity was determined based on formation of inhibition zone in surrounding of antibiotic disc. The result showed that Salmonella sp. bacteria growth was inhibited in ≥ 21 mm and ≥ 18 mm, ≥ 7 mm and ≥ 9 mm against chloramphenicol, gentamisin, tetrasiklin, and pineapple squeeze respectively. This research concluded that the Salmonella sp. cultured in this manner were sensitive to chloramphenicol and gentamisin. The inhibition growth of Salmonella sp. caused by chloramphenicol and gentamicin was significantly higher in comparison with pineapple (Ananas comosus) squeeze, meanwhile the Salmonella sp. bacteria was resistance against tetracycline. Our result suggest that both antibiotics chloramphenicol and gentamicin were recommended for antibiotic therapy in Salmonella sp. infection.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi aktivitas antelmintik ekstrak etanol biji Veitchia merrillii terhadap nematoda intestinal, Ascaridia galli. Metode fitokimia dilakukan untuk menguji keberadaan jenis kimiawi di dalam ekstrak. Efek dari ekstrak tersebut ditentukan melalui in vitro berdasarkan hambatan pergerakan dan kematian cacing. Sebanyak empat ekor cacing masing diperlakukan triplikat dalam phosphate buffered saline, 25 mg/mL, dan 75 mg/mL larutan ekstrak V. merrillii, dan 15 mg/mL albendazole. Pergerakan cacing diamati pada interval 9, 18, 27, dan 36 jam. Kematian cacing ditentukan berdasarkan ada tidaknya pergerakan badan, bagian kepala, dan ekor cacing. Kami menemukan bahwa larutan ekstrak V. merrillii mengandung tanin, alkaloid, flavonoid, triterpenoid, saponin, tetapi tidak mengandung steroid. Berdasarkan percobaan in vitro, penggunaan konsentrasi 25 dan 75 mg/mL ekstrak V. merrillii menunjukkan efek antelmintik. Ekstrak V. merrillii tersebut hanya efektif pada konsentrasi 75 mg/mL. Kajian tersebut mengindikasikan bahwa antelmintik berbasis herbal untuk mengendalikan A. galli berpontesi dikembangkan.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of soursop flower extract (Annona muricata L.) and hematological profile of rats (Rattus norvegicus) due to administration of soursop flower ethanol extract and Salmonella enteritidis infection. The concentrations of soursop flower ethanol extract used for the antibacterial activity test were 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, with the antibiotic ampicillin 10 μg/disk was used s a positive control (PC) and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) 10% as a negative control (NC). For examination of hematological features, 15 male rat aged two months were used. All rats were divided into 5 treatment groups, each consisting of three rats. The NC group was not given soursop flower ethanol extract and S. enteritidis infection. The PC group was not given soursop flower extract but was given S. enteritidis infection. Groups P1, P2, and P3 were given ethanol extracts of soursop flower at a dose of 0.18, 0.36, and 0.72 g/rat/day peroral for a week using gastric sonde. On the following day (after administration of soursop flower extract) the first blood drawing was performed. All rats, except NC group, were then infected with S. enteritidis intraperitonially at dose of 3x108 CFU/mL dose (0.5 mL McFarland). One week after being infected with S. enteritidis, a second blood drawing was performed. The results of the antibacterial activity test showed that there was no antibacterial activity was observed since no inhibition at various concentrations was formed. The administration of soursop flower extract at various dosage levels was able to maintain the number of leukocytes but reduced the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit value and the number of platelets in rats; whereas S. enteritidis infection decreased all the hematologic features of lab rats.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Mutu susu fermentasi sangat dipengaruhi oleh bahan baku, proses pengolahan, proses fermentasi, dan penyimpanan. Perubahan nilai gizi dapat terjadi karena variasi dan fluktuasi suhu dan penyimpanan akan mempercepat kerusakan susu fermentasi. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh suhu dan lama penyimpanan yang berbeda pada susu fermentasi terhadap pertumbuhan L. casei dan karakteristik susu fermentasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola faktorial yang terdiri dari 2 faktor yaitu faktor A (suhu) terdiri dari a1=4-10⁰C, a2=10-16⁰C. Faktor B (lama penyimpanan) terdiri b1=0 hari b2=30 hari, b3=60 hari, b4=90 hari dan dianalisis meliputi jumlah total bakteri L. casei, nilai derajat keasaman (pH), kadar asam laktat, sineresis, dan kadar alkohol. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan suhu dan lama penyimpanan berpengaruh sangat nyata (P 0.01) terhadap total bakteri, sineresis, kadar alkohol, asam laktat, tetapi pada pH terjadi interaksi antara suhu dan penyimpanan. Disimpulkan bahwa suhu dan lama penyimpanan dapat mengakibatkan pertumbuhan L. casei tidak stabil dan terjadinya perubahan karakteristik fisik susu fermentasi L. casei.  (Growth dynamics of Lactobacillus casei and characteristics of milk fermentation based on temperature and storage time) ABSTRACT. Fermented milk quality is strongly influenced by raw materials, processing, fermentation and storage. Changes in nutritional value may occur due to variations and fluctuations in temperature and storage will accelerate damage fermented milk. The research aimed to study the effect of temperature and different storage length of fermented milk on the growth of L. casei and characteristics of fermented milk. The study used completely randomized design (CRD) with factorial pattern which are consisted of two factors. Factor A (storage temperature) they were a1=4-10⁰C, a2=10-16⁰C. Factor B (storage time) they were b1=0 days, b2=30 days, b3=60 days, b4=90 days and analyzed include the total number of bacteria L. casei, the value of the degree of acidity (pH), lactic acid levels, syneresis, and alcohol content. The results showed that the temperature and storage time was highly significant (P 0.01) effect the total bacteria, syneresis, alcohol level, lactic acid level, and there was interaction between temperature and storage time on pH. It can conclude that the temperature and storage time affect the growth of L. casei unstable and changes in the physical characteristics of L. casei fermented milk.

Abstract

Seroprevalence of avian influenza H5N1 in birds in north aceh districtABSTRACT. Avian influenza virus H5N1 infections are an important cause of diseases in humans and several animal species, including birds. The present study conducted to investigate the seroprevalence Avian Influenza H5N1 in native birds from 15 sub-districts of North Aceh.  This study utilized 1108 serum samples collected from the axilaris vein (left or right) of birds. The standard Hemaglutination Inhibition (HI) assay was conducted at Microbiology Laboratory Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Syiah Kuala University to determined serum antibody possitive or negative reaction against Avian influenza H5N1. The result showed that seroprevalence Avian influenza H5N1 virus was 4,7 % in North Aceh District. There were nine sub-districts were tested positively by HI test. However, the serum collected from six sub-districts did not react (negative) against Avian influenza H5N1. Based on the results we obtained, a conclusion that natural infection by Avian influenza virus in native birds occured in part of North Aceh District.

Abstract

Tercatat pada tahun 2017 ada sekitar 7,5 miliar jumlah populasi manusia dengan angka pertumbuhan 1 miliar setiap 12 tahun. Peningkatan populasi ini terjadi 95% di negara berkembang. Setiap tahun ada sekitar 80 juta wanita di seluruh dunia setiap tahunnya mengalami kehamilan yang tidak diinginkan dan sebagian besar wanita pada kelompok ini menggunakan beberapa metode kontrasepsi yang telah tersedia. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan metode kontrasepsi baru dan lebih baik yang dapat diterima, efektif, dapat dijangkau dan tersedia diberbagai negara berkembang, yaitu dengan metode kontrasepsi imunologi. Salah satu metode kontrasepsi imunologi pada wanita adalah vaksin hCG. Vaksin hCG ini pertama kali dipublikasikan oleh Talwar, et al pada tahun 1976 dan menjadi satu-satunya metode kontrasepsi imunologi yang telah melewati uji klinis fase II. hCG merupakan target potensial dan terbaik dalam mencegah kehamilan tanpa adanya efek samping yang merugikan. Berbeda dari kontrasepsi steroid yang dapat menghambat ovulasi, metode vaksin hCG tidak menganggu ovulasi dan produksi hormon steorid seks serta tidak menganggu keteraturan siklus menstruasi. Baik protein ujung C (CTP) dari β-hCG maupun β-hCGnya sendiri telah digunakan sebagai kandidat imunogen untuk mengembangkan kontrasepsi imunologi. Metode ini diketahui aman, efektif menekan angka kehamilan dan bersifat reversibel.
