Abstract

This study was carried out to determine the effect of salinity adaptation techniques on growth and survival of patin catfish Pangasius sp. fry.  Fry of 1.5-2.0 inch in length were reared in the water with different of the initial salinity of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 ppt.  Salinity was then daily increased by duplicated the initial water salinity until fish died.  The results of study showed that fry could survive by initial salinity adaptation of 1 ppt and then increasing the salinity by 1 ppt/day to reach 27 ppt.  In the other treatments, all fry died after the salinity reach 18-25 ppt. Keywords: patin catfish, Pangasius, adaptation, salinity   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh teknik adaptasi salinitas terhadap pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup benih ikan patin Pangasius sp.  Benih patin ukuran 1,5-2 inci dipelihara pada salinitas awal berbeda, yaitu 1, 2, 3, 4 dan 5 ppt. Salinitas air pemeliharaan ditingkatkan kelipatan dari salinitas awal setiap hari hingga ikan mati.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa adaptasi salinitas awal 1 ppt dan peningkatan sebesar 1ppt/hari menyebabkan ikan dapat bertahan hidup sampai pada salinitas 27 ppt. Pada perlakuan lainnya, benih ikan mengalami kematian masal ketika salinitas mencapai 18-25 ppt. Kata kunci: ikan patin, Pangasius, adaptasi, salinitas

Abstract

Sediment oxygen consumption level is an indicator of mineralization procces intensity and indicator of microorganism activity in the substrate, and also a description of dissolved oxygen consumption or utilization in a water body. This study aimed to evaluate factors of sediment quality which influenced sediment oxygen consumption level. The study was conducted at the experimental pond installation of Research Institute for Coastal Aquaculture (RICA), in Punaga, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, using two units of 4000m2 intensive ponds with density of 50ind./m2. Rearing period was approxi-mately in 4months. Pond management was carried out in accordance with standard operating pro-cedures. Homogeneity between experimental units was approached by the uniformity of pond management including pond preparation, shrimp seed management, feed management,and water management. Sediment quality variables measured were redox potential, pH, total organic matter, sediment oxygen consumption, total bacteria, and production aspect. The results showed that the factors which have close relationship with the sediment oxygen consumption were redox potential, organic matter, and total bacteria. The model could be used to predict the sediment oxygen con-sumption on white shrimp pond with the following regression equation Y=  0.0000496 + 0.00025 organic matter + 0.00037 total bacteria - 0.00000948 potential redox with R2 = 0.847.Keywords: sediment oxygen consumption, sediment quality, pond, Litopenaeus vannamei

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the effect of hardness on growth and survival rate of barb fish (Barbus conchonius Hamilton-Buchanan) reared in the 3 ppt of water salinity.  Fish were reared in three different hardnesses, i.e., 54, 72, and 90 mg/L CaCO3 for 30 days.  The results of study showed that fish reared in water hardness of 72 mg/L CaCO3 had higher daily growth rate (1.15%) compared with other treatments.  Daily growth rate of fish reared in water hardness of 54 and 90 mg/L CaCO3 were 0.76 and 0.37%, respectively.  There was no effect of hardness on survival rate of barb fish. Keywords: barb fish, Barbus conchonius,  hardness, salinity   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kesadahan yang berbeda terhadap laju pertumbuhan dan tingkat kelangsungan hidup ikan barbir (Barbus conchonius Hamilton-Buchanan) yang dipelihara pada air bersalinitas 3 ppt.  Ikan dipelihara dalam 3 tingkat kesadahan yang berbeda, yaitu 54 mg/L CaCO3, 72 mg/L CaCO3, dan 90 mg/L CaCO3 selama 30 hari.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa laju perumbuhan harian tertinggi diperoleh pada ikan yang dipelihara pada kesadahan 72 mg/L CaCO3 (1,15%) dibandingkan dengan perlakuan lainnya. Laju pertumbuhan harian ikan yang dipelihara pada kesadahan 54 dan  90 mg/L CaCO3 masing-masing mencapai 0,76% dan 0,37%.  Kelangsungan hidup ikan barb tidak dipengaruhi oleh kesadahan. Abstract

The study was done from July to October 2007 by line transect method, plots, and exploration survey. There were eight species found in this study were grouped into pioneer group (Cymodocea rotundata, Halodule pinifolia, Halodule uninervis, Halophila ovalis, Syringodium isoetifolium) and climax (Cymodocea serrulata, Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii), with mixed vegetations. Density, covering percentage and biomass in Andai and Wosi were dominated by H. pinifolia; Rendani and Tj. Mangewa were dominated by T. hemprichii; and Briosi were dominated by C. rotundata and T. hemprichii. INP in Andai and Wosi (dominated by H. pinifolia) were 290.005 and 243.767, respectively; Rendani and Tj. Mangewa (dominated by T. hemprichii) were 101.725 and 135.139, respectively; and Briosi (dominated by C. rotundata) was 120.146. The highest ratio of above and below biomass was found in Andai (7.831) and the lowest was found in Briosi (2.103). Seagrass community in Rendani, Tj. Mangewa and Briosi had higher biodiversity index than Wosi and Andai (0.109 and 0.015). On the other hand, Rendani, Tj. Mangewa, and Briosi had lower dominance index (0.262, 0.421 and 0.338, respectively), compared to Andai (0.989) and Wosi (0.889). Level of similarity among seagrass community in Rendani, Briosi and Tj. Abstract

This study was conducted to determine polychaetes infecting pearl oyster Pinctada maxima reared at Padang Cermin Bay, Lampung.  There were 9 genera of polychaetes harboured on the shell of pearl oysters from Teluk Padang Cermin Lampung.  Those are Eunice, Lysidice, Nereis, Phylodoce, Polycirrus, Polydora  Salmacing,  Streblosoma and Syllis which attached on external surface of the shell and some of them were burrowed into the shell. Keywords:  polychaeta, pearl oyster, Pinctada maxima   Abstrak Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui jenis-jenis polikaeta yang menyerang tiram mutiara Pinctada maxima yang dipelihara di Teluk Padang Cermin, Lampung.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 9 genus polikaeta yang menyerang tiram mutiara, yaitu  Eunice, Lysidice, Nereis, Phylodoce, Polycirrus, Salmacing,  Streblosoma dan Syllis ditemukan menempel pada permukaan luar cangkang tiram mutiara. Lysidice, Nereis, Phylodoce, dan Syllis juga ditemukan pada lapisan dalam cangkang. Polydora hanya terdapat pada lapisan dalam cangkang. Kata kunci:  polikaeta, tiram mutiara, Pinctada maxima

Abstract

The Sentani Lake located at Jayapura regency which covered : east Sentani District, Sentani District, and West Sentani district. Other area located in Jayapura city. Sentani lake has 9630 ha area with 52 m depth and 72 m mean surface level. Some problem on Sentani lake are erotion, domestic waste and industrial waste which due to Cu and Zn concentration in these lake over standard of water quality. The strategy consist of management and institution responsibility, and lake institution is needed to develop lake sustainability . Analyze method by ISM (interpretative structural modeling) with institution fellowship, goal in lake management and management model programe as some input . According to expert judgment, the institution elements responsed to develop management model of Sentani lake are marine and fishing institution, Housing institution, local leader and local institution, environmental institution, landscape intitution, university, and tourisme institution. That elements is the fourth level. The fourth elements level become the main driver power and to effect on next sub element. Co-Management institution is proposed in this research.Key words: institution responsibility, co-management, ISM, driver power, Sentani Lak.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to know the optimal salinity level on survival and growth rates of Colossoma macropomum on larvae rearing in different salinity media. The treatment tested with six different salinities were 0; 2; 4; 6; and 10 ‰. This study was conducted from May 15 to June 12, 2006. The experiment design was arranged in completely randoumizes design with six treatments and three replications. Stock density was 1 fish/l with mean initial body weight 0.48 ± 0.03 g and initial total body length 3.04 ± 0.18 cm. The result showed that the optimal salinities between 5.74 – 6.35 ‰, which was giving growth rates 9.31 % and survival rates 100 %. On minimum salinitiy media (0 ‰) showed growth rate 5.45 % and survival rate 19.17 %.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to know the optimum salinity changes to improve quantity and quality of cyst produced by Artemia. This experiment used completely randomized factorial design. Factor a was salinities changes at day-9 (A) and day-15 (B) of culture. Factor b consisted of four salinity increasing treatments, which were I (100, 100, 100, 140 ppt); II (100, 100, 140, 140 ppt); III (100, 140, 140, 140 ppt) and IV (100, 110, 125, 140 ppt). The highest fecundity was obtained by B.I treatment. The highest quantity of the cysts was produced by A.III treatment. Treatment of A.I produced cysts with the highest protein content. These results showed that the high quality and quantity of cysts was obtained when salinity increase started at day-9 of culture.

Abstract

Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) surfactant in the water can affecting fish in all developmental stages.  This study was aimed to observe the effect of LAS on mortality, hatching rate of eggs, and abnormality of patin catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus Sauvage) larvae.   Fertilized eggs were incubated in water containing LAS at the dosages of 0.0, 0.5, 1.5, 3.0, 9.0, and 18.0 mg/L.  Eggs mortality was observed every 6 hours until larvae hatched (24 hours).  The results of study showed that the exposure of 18.0 mg LAS per liter water could put to death all the fertilized eggs and larvae be abnormal.  The exposure of LAS at concentration of 9.0 mg/L could kill 98% of eggs and hatching rate was only 2%.  The abnormality in larvae was bending in the body and tails. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh LAS terhadap mortalitas, daya tetas telur dan abnormalitas larva ikan patin (Pangasius hypophthalmus Sauvage).  Telur ikan patin yang telah dibuahi di rendam dalam air yang mengandung LAS dengan konsentrasi 0,0; 0,5; 1,5; 3,0; 9,0 dan 18,0 mg/L.  Mortalitas telur dicatat setiap 6 jam sampai menetas (24 jam).  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konsentrasi LAS sebesar 18,0 mg/L dapat mengakibatkan mortalitas telur dan abnormalitas pada larva secara total.  Konsentrasi LAS sebesar 9,0 mg/L dapat mematikan telur hingga 98% dan hanya menghasilkan daya tetas sebanyak 2%. Abnormalitas pada larva berupa pembengkokan pada tubuh dan ekor. Kata kunci: ikan patin, Pangasius, Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate, LAS dan abnormalitas

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the effect of alkalinity on survival and growth of Siam patin catfish (Pangasius sp.).  Fish larvae were reared in aquaria in density of 4 fishes per liter.  Water alkalinity examined was 15 ppm CaCO3 as control, and 25, 50, and 75 ppm CaCO3 as treatments.  During first 7 days, larvae were fed on nauplii Artemia sp. 4 times daily and continuing fed on Tubifex sp. for 23 days.  The results of study showed that higher survival rate was obtained in treatment 50 ppm CaCO3 (94.16%).  Higher daily growth rate was also achieved by that treatment. Keywords: Siam patin catfish, Pangasius, Alkalinity, CaCO3   ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh alkalinitas terhadap kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan larva ikan patin Siam (Pangasius sp.).  Larva ikan patin dipelihara dalam akuarium dengan kepadatan 4 ekor/L.  Alkalinitas air yang digunakan adalah 15 ppm CaCO3 sebagai kontrol, dan perlakuan 25, 50 serta 75 ppm CaCO3. Selama 7 hari pertama, pakan yang diberikan berupa naupli Artemia sp. setiap 4 jam sekali dan diteruskan dengan cacing sutera (Tubifex sp.) selama 23 hari.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelangsungan hidup larva tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan alkalinitas 50 ppm CaCO3  (94,16%).  Laju pertumbuhan harian tertinggi juga diperoleh pada perlakuan alkalinitas 50 ppm CaCO3 (6,65%).   Kata kunci: ikan patin Siam, Pangasius, Alkalinitas dan CaCO3
