Abstract

Aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of CGF 40% in hastening the recuperation, as indicated by reduced length of hospital stay, improvement in clinical status, increase in platelets, and reduction in the hemoconcentration. The study group comprised of 84 consecutive DHF patients, 42 male and 42 female subjects, who were randomized into the control group receiving the WHO standard therapy and the intervention group receiving CGF 40% and the standard therapy. Hemoglobin, hematocrite and thrombocyte counts were taken daily until the subjects were free of the symptoms and signs of DHF, and the thrombocyte count read >100.000. The results were analyzed statistically, student t test and quadratic regression, using SPSS 16 software. The average length of recuperation time in the intervention and control groups were 2.76 days and 4.43 days respectively (p=0.000). Recuperation times of subjects with thrombocyte counts <50,000 and >50,000 of the intervention group (3,09 and 2,37 days) and the control group (4,2 and 4,5 days) were different significantly (p=0.016 and 0.000). When analized specifically in the treatment group, the recuperation time of those with thrombocyte counts <50,000U (2.37 days) did not differ to those with >50,000 (3.09 days) with p=0.112. Using quadratic regression, the increase in thrombocytes, reduction in hemoglobin concentrations and hematocrite were faster in the intervention group when compared to the control group, with R2 almost reaching 1. The study disclosed that administration of CGF 40% could reduce the recuperation time and improved the hemoconcentration, which presumably demonstrated the concept of regenerative medicine as indicated by the repairmen of vascular permeability.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the effect of pre-nutritional status and consumption of Chlorella Growth Factor (CGF) on symptom of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF). Design of this study was a randomized clinical trial with 37 subjects of intervention group and 37 subjects of control group. The subjects were DHF in-patient of economic class of Karya Bhakti Hospital. The criteria for subjects were DHF in-patients (grade II and III), age ? 17 years, fever up to 7 days, serology Dengue Ig M (+), platelet <100.000/mm3, not pregnant and not suffering from immune impaired diseases. The result show that effect of pre-nutritional status (p> 0.01) was not significant, but the effect CGF consumption was significant (p< 0.01) on clinical symptom of DHF. This implies that CGF reduced the symptom severity of DHF. Further studies required for identify the actual bioactive components of CGF effects on DHF; and effect of selected nutritional biomarkers on DHF.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to know the correlation between nutrition and health knowledge, behavior of healthy life, and physical characteristic of the house towards health sighs of public transportation driver. Design of this study was a cross sectional study. The criterions of sample were (1) driver of Kampus Dalam and Leuwiliang route; (2) man; (3) age more than 30 years old; (4) had been worked as public transportation driver more than 2 years; (5) can communicate and ready for having an interview. The amount of sample is 60 respondents. The type of data was primary and secondary data. The primary data (individual and family characteristic, nutrition and health knowledge, life style, pattern of food consumption, behavior of healthy life, physical characteristic of the house, and health sighs of the driver) was collected by structural questionnaire interview. The body weight and height data were collected by direct measurement on the study sites. The secondary data had been obtained from ?Dinas Perhubungan? of Bogor District. This study showed that nutrition and health knowledge, behavior of healthy life, and physical characteristic of the house did not correlate to health sighs of the public transportation driver. The correlation was analyzed by Spearman?s correlation.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to study environmental condition, healthy life behaviour, and health status of women tea picker?s family in PTPN VIII Pengalengan, Bandung, West Java. The cross sectional study design is used in this research and total number of samples are 92  family of women tea picker who live in Malabar Plantation. The inclusion criteria of the sample is having children 0-72 month age and willing to be interviewed. The place of the research was chosen purposively. Malabar Plantation was chosen from the other five plantations (clusters) because of its easier access and the homogenous characteristics of inter cluster. Primary data consists of family characteristics, environmental condition, healthy life behavior, and family?s health status. Secondary data consists of general description of Malabar Plantation and Banjarsari Village. Data was processed and analyzed with descriptive statistic and inference, and correlation analysis used Rank Spearman correlation test. The results revealed that the family were live in average (moderate) environmental condition, and only a few families live in good environmental condition. Their family?s health behaviour was good. The symptoms/kind of diseases which found among the samples were fever, acute respiratory infection (ARI) diseases, digestion organ diseases, skin disease, and hepatitis. Family?s member who was the most susceptible to disease was children. The related factors to environmental condition of women tea picker?s family were family income and family size. The water source used by the families, which was one of factors of the environmental condition?s, was related to  health status of women tea picker?s family. The acute respiratory infection (ARI) disease and hepatitis cases in family were related to better water source for taking a bath, wash the dishes and wash hands after defecation. Better water source, then less cases of the diseases.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine relationship between trans fatty acid intake with percentage of body fat and nutritional status among adults in Bogor rural and urban area. The research was conducted using a cross sectional study. The number of subjects for each region was 48 adults aged 20?65 years which selected purposively. The results showed that most of subjects in urban and rural areas were in categorized as high deficient of energy (<70% RDA), i.e. 29.17% and 33.33%, respectively. The percentage of fat adequacy was 43.75% in rural area, which was categorized as sufficient, and 45.83% in urban area, which was categorized as high. Meanwhile, most of the subjects (97.92%) in both areas had adequacy level of trans fatty acid intake as recommended. Body fat percentage in subjects was 24.81±8.44 in rural area and 27.62±801 in urban area. In the meanwhile, 58.30% of subjects in rural and 64.4% of subjects in urban areas had normal nutritional status. There was no significant difference (p>0.05) between trans fatty acid intake, adequacy level intakes of energy, total fat, trans fatty acid, and body fat percentage. However there was a significant difference between nutritional status of subjects in rural and urban areas (p<0.05). There was no relationship between adequacy level intakes of energy, total fat, and trans fatty acid, with body fat percentage and nutritional status (p>0.05), but there was significant correlation between body fat percentages and nutritional status of subjects (p<0.05).
