Abstract

ABSTRACT The use of extract root ginseng in the process of Betta fish masculinization is expected to increase the testosterone. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect ginseng root extract to the percentage of the male betta fish by masculinization. This study has been conducted at the Basic Aquaculture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study use a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments in this research was betta fish larvae aged 7 days that submersed on ginseng root extract media with different concentration for 8 hours. The treatment were the addition of ginseng root extract as much as 1 mg/L (P1), 2 mg/L (P2), 3 mg/L (P3), 4 mg/L (P4) and without ginseng root extract addition as control (P0). Parameters observed consist of percentage of betta fish male, survival rate and quality of water. The result of this research shows that the addition of extract panax ginseng with difference concentration has significant effect to male betta fish percentage, but there is no a significant effect on survival rate. Treatment P3 with concentration 3 mg/L is the best result, it produced 95.05% of male betta fish after immersion for 8 hours. Keywords : Betta fish, Ginseng root extract, Immersion, Masculinization

Abstract

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of different incubation temperatures to the rate of the kissing gouramy (Helostoma temminckiiC.V) yolk absorption, and to know the right time to start feeding in the larval stage. This study was held on January 09th to 13th, 2013 using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments namely P1 (26±0.50C), P2 (28±0.50C), P3 (30±0.50C), P4 (32±0.50C) and P5 (34±0.50C).Each treatment was repeated three times. The results showed that the temperature gave significant effect (P>0,05) to rate of yolk absorption, periode of yolk absorption and percentage of larval survival.The highest rate of yolk absorption was P5 (42.24 x 10-5 mm3/hour), but not significantly different fromP4 (41.63 x 10-5 mm3hour-1), and P3 (41.83 x 10-5 mm3hour-1). The fastest periode of yolk absorption was P5 (72 hours) and the longest was P1 (78.67 hours). While the highest larval survival rate was found on P3 (89.87%), on the other hand the lowest survival rate was found on P5 (62.35%). The natural feeding of kissing gouramy fish should be started at 74th hours (3 days, 2 hours) after hatching and larval rearing should use temperature of 300 ± 0.50 C.   Keywords: Helostoma temminckii C.V., temperature, yolk absorption

Abstract

ABSTRACT Feed had been given probiotics expected can be stored in long periods of time, so that at the time of granting feed time and energy used more efficiency The addition of probiotics on feed with the process of a long storage can improve the quality of fish feed through the solution of ingredients that could not be digested by the body of fish like cellulose, hemiselulosa into simpler sugars that easily digestible with the help of microorganisms. The purpose of this research to know the difference a long time storage of the feed probiotic on the quality of feed. The research had been conducted in Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan, Departement of Aquaculture, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University on January until March 2016. The research method used a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and three replications (P1 : pellets probiotics with incubation time 24 hours, P2 : pellets probiotics with incubation time 7 days, P3 : pellets probiotics with incubation time 14 days, P4 : pellets probiotics with incubation time 21 days). Parameters that had been observed were physical pellets condition, nutrition pellets composition, lactat acid bacteria of population, buoyancy feed and destructive power feed. The result showed that physical feed where the treatment P2 covering texture, color and smell feed still in good condition. In the nutrition feed the treatment P4 increases nutrition feed of protein 18,14 %, fats 7,55 % and dust 12,04 %. The population of lactat acid bacteria similar detected between treatment but the population highest in P4 treatment 161,78. In buoyancy and the destructive power the highest was in treatment P1 which was during 428.18 minutes and 318.12 minutes.   Key words : Probiotic, Feed , Lactat Acid Bacteri

Abstract

ABSTRACT The success in egg hatching is determined by internal and external factors. One of external factors is the acid level. The use of pH in egg hatching is to stimulate chorionase enzyme that can make chorion become soft. The purpose of this research is to determine the best pH value for hatching of snakehead eggs. This research had been conducted in Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan, Departement of Aquaculture, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University on January until February 2016. The research method used a completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications. The treatment were P1 (pH 5±0.2), P2 (pH 6±0.2), P3 (pH 7±0.2), P4 (pH 8±0.2) dan P5 (pH 9±0.2). The results showed that different values of water pH in snakehead hatching gave significant effect on hatching percentage, incubation time and survival rate of larvae but did not indicate  significant effect on percentage of abnormal larvae. The highest hatching percentage was in treatment P5 (90.75%), the fastest incubation time was in treatment P4 (20.00 hours), the highest survival rate of larvae was in treatment P2 (85.31%) and the highest percentage of abnormal larvae was in treatment P1 (1.67%). During the research, water quality were in tolerance range for hatching and snakehead larvae rearing where DO (5.27-6.01 mg/l), ammonia (0.00-0.29 mg/l), and alkalinity (26-106 mg/l).   Key words : Snakehead, Hatching, pH different

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of protein levelin diet on feed eficiency and growth rate of Snakehead (Channa striata). Fivediet with different level of protein, diet P25(25% protein); P30 (30% protein); P35(35% protein); P40 (40% protein); and P45 (45% protein) were applied in thisexperiment. Ten fishes with initial body weight range 0.7 ? 1.0 gram were rearedin each aquarium (water volume 10 L). Fishes were fed three time a day, atsatiation. Fish reared for 30 days.The result showed that growth rate and feedefficiency of fish fed diet 25% protein level (P25) were0.28 g and 2.46%, diet30% protein (P30) were 0.71 g and 9.86%, diet 35% (P35%) were 0.84 g and14.18%, diet 40% protein were 1.17 g and 16.97%, or diet 45% protein (P45)were 1.00 g and 9.58%. Based on BNT test showed that diet 40% protein levelwas higher growth rate and feed efficiency of fish than others diet. While survivalrate of fish fed diet 25% protein level was 50%, diet 30% protein was 46.67%,diet 35% protein was 76.67%, diet 40% protein was 63.33%, or diet 45% proteinwas 100%. Based on analysis of varians, had no significant different on survivalrate.Water quality of rearing media were temperature range was 26 ? 29oC, pHwas 6.7 ? 7.2, dissolved oxygen was 1.46 ? 4.16 mg.L-1, and ammonia was 0.014- 0.182 mg.L-1.Keywords : Protein level in diet, feed efficiency, growth rate, Channa striata

Abstract

Tidal lowland is a potential land for aquaculture, however it should be manage intensively in order to give a good and sustainable contribution for society. Tidal fenomenon and rainfall will interacted with water quantity and quality which will used as fish media culture. Fish need optimal water to support its growth and survival. Based on measure and water analysis in two locations, at Mulyasari village, Tanjung Lago District, Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatera, tidal and rainfall gave effect to physical, chemical and biological of water quality and quantity. Related to the change of weather where in the second year (2016) the dry season was longer than rainy season since 2015,the rainfall was only about 200 mm- 310 mm/month. The lower of rainfall effected to the water level in canals and influent the brightness and turbidity, sea intrution that brought salinity about 5-15 ppt in the water.Acidity was also decline about 3.5-5 with ammonia- free reached 0.25 mg/L. Nitrate and nitrite were in common such a natural water condition, yet pyrite oxidized that caused the water and land tobe reddish yellow and looked like greasy in the surface. These condition would be harmfull for fish. The tidal and rainfall was also effect plankton abundance. The data shows that fitoplankton and zooplankton were higher in the canals than in the pond.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This current research aimed to find out survival and growth of snakehead fish (Channa striata) reared in different pH media modification and to find out the optimum pH for rearing. Research was conducted in Aquaculture Laboratory, Aquaculture Program Study, Agriculture Faculty, Sriwijaya University from October toNovember2012. This researchcurrent used completely randomized design with  five treatments and three replications. The treatments were P0 (without treatments), P1 (decreased from pH 5.75 to 3.00), P2 (decreased from pH 5.75 to 4.00), P3 (decreased from pH 5.75 to 5.00) and  P4 (increased from pH 5.75 to 6.00).   The result of this  current research showed that the best  survival rate and growth based on regression analysis growth and weight total biomass end was found for P3 treatment (decreased from pH 5.75 to 5.00). Result of water physical and chemical measered were dissolved oxigen 4.32-4.77 mg.L-1, temperature 26-280C, and amonia 0.0030-0.1281 mg.L-1. Keywords : Channa striata, Ikan gabus, pH

Abstract

ABSTRACT The use of natural honey in the process of Betta fish masculinization are expected to reduce the concentration of estrogen hormone and increase the testosterone. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of natural honey to the percentage of the male betta fish by masculinization. This study has been conducted at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Sriwijaya University. This study use a completely randomized design with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment in this research was betta fish larvae aged 5 days that submersed on natural honey media with different concentration for 12 hours. The treatment were the addition of natural honey as much as 4 ml/L (P1), 5 ml/L (P2), 6 ml/L (P3), 7 ml/L (P4) and without natural honey addition as control (P0). Parameters observed consist of percentage of betta fish male, survival rate and quality of water. The result of this research shows that the addition of natural honey with difference concentration has significant effect to male betta fish percentage. Treatment P2 with concentration 5 ml/L is the best result, it produced 77.33% of male betta fish after immersion for 12 hours. Keywords : Betta fish (Betta sp.), Masculinization, Natural honey

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan kelangsungan hidup dan pertumbuhan benih ikan nila selama kegiatan pemeliharaan dengan padat tebar berbeda di saluran air dan kolam tadah hujan lahan pasang surut Desa Bangun Sari Kecamatan Tanjung Lago Kabupaten Banyuasin Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 26 Desember 2012 sampai 15 Februari 2013. Rancangan penelitian yang digunakan yaitu rancangan acak kelompok dengan tiga perlakuan padat tebar yaitu 100 ekor.m-2, 200 ekor.m-2 dan 300 ekor.m-2 selama masa pemeliharaan di saluran sekunder, saluran tersier dan kolam tadah hujan. Parameter yang diamati adalah kelangsungan hidup, pertumbuhan, efisiensi pakan, kualitas air (suhu, pH, oksigen terlarut, NH3, kecerahan, alkalinitas, Fe, salinitas dan plankton) dan kualitas tanah (pirit dan pH tanah). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perlakuan padat tebar tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap kelangsungan hidup, pertumbuhan dan efisiensi pakan. Perlakuan dengan rata-rata pertumbuhan, kelangsungan hidup dan efisiensi pakan tertinggi adalah padat tebar 100 ekor.m-2 pada saluran sekunder

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim  of the research was to fiad out sex ratio proportion on ovulation time, fecundity, fertilization, and hatching percentage of climbing perch eggs. The research used Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and three replicates with P as treatment code. The treatment used was ratio between female and male including P1(1:1), P2(1:2), P3(1:3), and P4(1:4). Observed parameters were ovulation time, fecundity, fertilization, hatching percentage, and water quality. Observed parameters were ovulation time, fecundity, fertilization, hatching percentage, and water quality. The Results showed that all treatment did not affected significantly affentedthe observed parameter (P<0,05). P2 treatment provided the fastest ovulation time with 137.33 minute, highest fecundity value provided by P4 with 18.533 eggs grains. Eggs fertilization rates of eggs on each treatmentwas 100%, and the highest hatching percentage was given by P1 treatment withnumber 91.57%. Ranges of water quality parameters recorded on  research                      were temperature 28-29 0C, pH 6.2-6.5, disollved oxygen 6.11-6.79 ppm and                       amonia 0.010-0.038 ppm.
