Abstract

Abstact. With the rapid development of wireless technology, mobile devices applications and services have become more convenient. One area that can be supported by this technology is the field of health, particularly in the dental information system. Processing the patient data is one of the many factors that have an important role in hospital industry. The manual processing of patient data in dental clinic X Yogyakarta, Indonesia is inefficient and ineffective. It cant guarantee the accuracy of the calculation, recapitulations, and reporting system. The rapid development of information technology makes it possible to develop a dental information system, which gives accurate reports on the status of the patients in real time for the purpose of improving patient’s safety and quality of services. In this research, the application is developed with Java programming language and mySQL database. The testing results of the application have shown that the program can be operated easily, has a clear work flow, supports various facilities that help users, and is able to become valuable inputs for dental clinic management in the decision making process. Based on the questionnaire results, 80% respondents reported that the program met the requirements and was easy to use.Keywords: mobile technology, dental information system, registration, report Abstrak.Perkembangan teknologi nirkabel yang sangat pesat telah memicu aplikasi dan layanan seluler menjadi lebih nyaman. Salah satu bidang yang dapat didukung oleh teknologi ini adalah bidang kesehatan, terutama dalam sistem informasi klinik gigi. Pengolahan data pasien merupakan salah satu faktor yang memiliki peran penting dalam pengelolaan industri kesehatan. Saat ini, proses manual pengolahan data pasien di klinik gigi x Yogyakarta tidak efisien dan tidak efektif. Hal ini tidak dapat menjamin keakuratan perhitungan, rekapitulasi, dan sistem pelaporan. Pesatnya perkembangan teknologi informasi memungkinkan untuk mengembangkan sistem informasi gigi, yang memberikan laporan yang akurat tentang status pasien secara real time untuk tujuan meningkatkan keselamatan pasien dan mutu layanan. Dalam penelitian ini, aplikasi dikembangkan dengan bahasa pemrograman Java dan database mySQL. Hasil pengujian aplikasi telah menunjukkan bahwa program ini dapat dioperasikan dengan mudah, memiliki alur kerja yang jelas, mendukung berbagai fasilitas yang membantu pengguna, dan mampu menjadi masukan yang berharga untuk manajemen klinik gigi untuk membuat keputusan. Abstract

This journal mainly deals with the males’ and females’ compliment responses from Herbalife following up system. The focus of my analysis is the types of the males’ and females’ compliment responses that occurred most frequently by both genders, the differences or/and similarities  of males’ and females’ compliment responses types. To analyze the data, I used Holmes’ (1995&2006) and Wolfson’s (1989) theories. I used Lesmana’s research (2009) as well the contrast between an online communication research and an offline communication research as supporting thesis. For the                 methods, I used a descriptive qualitative approach to be supported by quantitative data in developing my research.Then, from my analysis, I found that the both male and female interlocutors tended to accept the compliments given by me as the female complimenter.

Abstract

This study is mainly about the refusal strategies used by an old foreman and a young foreman in refusing request permission made by the workers. Specifically, it focuses on the comparison between how the old foreman and the young foreman employed the refusal strategies in refusing request. The findings show that both the old foreman and the young foreman mostly employed indirect strategy

Abstract

This research aims to help people understand about turn-taking irregularities, overlap and interruption and why it occurs. The classification of interruption is based on the definition of the interruption from Wardhaugh (1985). The writer believes that interruption and overlap are caused by certain reasons. The writer is interested in observing interruption and overlap in “Indonesia Lawyers Club” because she wanted to know which parties in this show produced more number of interruptions and overlaps, especially in an interactive dialog. There are two parties in this dialog, namely host and guests/panelist. This study was a qualitative study; the writer got the data from the transcript, which she did it manually. The writer analyzed all interruptions and overlaps from the host an guests/panelists which occurred in this show and classified the reason. The writer wanted to find out what the common reason of interruption and overlap are in this study. To decide the reason of interruption and overlap the writer looked at the context of the discussion between the host and the guest/panelists. The writer found that interruptions occurred more than overlaps. The common reason was seeking of clarification, and the other reason was confirming, completing, breaking up, and showing agreement. From all of this reason the writer conclude that interruptions and overlaps in this talk-show were not violation.

Abstract

This thesis is related to the Front Office staffers of ibis Surabaya City Center Hotel who have difficulties in giving information and handling complaints from overseas guests. Therefore, they need a training material in English that contains three lessons about giving information, handling complaints, and receiving calls. This training material is equipped with conversations, sentence pattern and substitution, list of important words, exercises, and also answer key to help the Front Office staffers to have better performances in terms of customer service. By having this training material, ibis Surabaya City Center Hotel will gain three benefits. Firstly, this training material will help the Front Office staffers at ibis Surabaya City Center Hotel to support their work performance. Secondly, this training material can help the Front Office staffers to improve their English skill since it is written in English. Finally, this training material can help Front Office staffers to give the best possible service to the hotel’s guests.

Abstract

This thesis is the study of apology strategies and the similarities and/or the differences of the types of apology strategies used by the female and the male students. My respondents consist of 20 female and 20 male students of the English Department. This study used the theory of Ogiermann (2009). I constructed my own Discourse Completion Test (DCT) questionnaire consisting of 10 simulated classroom situations. The quantitative approach was used in this study. The finding revealed that the first three most dominant types of strategies used by the both of them were expression of regret, acceptance of responsibility and justification. The similarities and/or the differences of the three most dominant types of apology between the female and the male students were found in the percentage use of apology strategies. Expression of regret was used 52.8% by the female students and 47% by the male students. The female students used 53.3% and the male students used 46.6% in acceptance of responsibility. Justification was used 52.7% by the female and 47.3% by the male students. For that reason, the female and the male students tend to use the same types of apology strategies, although their percentages are only slightly different.

Abstract

This researched focused on the observation about the speech styles used by a Pastor in delivering the sermon in a Public Service and a Youth Service. In order to know the characteristics of speech styles used by the Pastor, this writer chooses the main theory of formal and informal Bahasa Indonesia as proposed by Tampubolon (1978) which are supported by the theory of lexical and grammatical characteristics for standard Bahasa Indonesia by Kridalaksana (1989). As results, this research shows that the Pastor mostly used informal style in both services because she wanted to more get closer with the Public and Youth Service congregation. However, the Pastor tended to use more formal style to the Public Service congregation than to the Youth Service congregation because she knew exactly that the Youth Service was supposed to be given more attention and clearer explanation about the message given.

Abstract

Company profile is a description of the company history, resources, structure, performance, and reputation. Therefore, company profile is very important for the hotel and it also plays an important role for business communication because it provides the useful information of the hotel that can help the employees to get the product knowledge about the hotel. Also, it will help the customers when they want to stay in the hotel. As we know, ibis Surabaya City Center Hotel did not have the written company profile that can be very useful for the hotel. Therefore, ibis has to make the company profile for the hotel. By having the company profile, the hotel can attract new customers because many people will see the profile of the hotel. Moreover, this company profile will make an impact on the sales of the hotel because it is related with the promotion of the hotel

Abstract

Brotherwood Decoration is a new decoration company based in Surabaya which uses recycled wood as the main material. This Company was just recently established in June 2014. As a new decoration company, there are only a few people who know about this company. Moreover, there are also some decoration companies which are bigger and more experienced than Brotherwood Decoration. Unlike its predecessors, Brotherwood Decoration, as a new company, is less known. Because of that, it does not have as many customers as its predecessors. Therefore, it is better for Brotherwood Decoration to start showing its strengths to more people. To accomplish the goal, a marketing booklet is the best solution to solve the problem in Brotherwood Decoration. There are four parts in this marketing booklet: table of contents, company overview (“About Brotherwood Decoration”), products (“Products”), and company contact information (“Contact Us”). By having these information, the marketing booklet will be able to help Brotherwood Decoration in introducing its hotel, getting more customers, increasing its revenues, and becoming a big decoration company
