Abstract

Developing PISA like mathematics problems using daily life context helps to improve the quality of learning. This study aimed to generate a valid, practical, and having potential effects on mathematics literacy ability PISA like mathematics problems with the context of sailing in the 2018 Asian Games. This research involved three expert reviews and 32 fifteen-years-old tenth-grade students of SMA N 10 Palembang, a public senior high school in Palembang Indonesia, as the research subjects. This study used the design research method of development studies type. The data were collected through documentation, walkthrough, tests, and interviews. The problem developed in this study is related to the length of wood required to span the sail. The results show that the problems are valid. The validity was viewed from its compatibility with the PISA framework, in which it had related the problems with daily life context of sailing in the 2018 Asian Games and space and shape content. The problems are also practical, viewed from students' understanding of the problem. And, the problems have potential effects when tested in learning issue of mathematical literacy ability. The dominant ability is reasoning and representation ability, while the communication ability is still low because the students do not give detailed answers.

Abstract

This research aims to produce a valid, practical, and having potential effects PISA-like mathematics problems using taekwondo context in Asian Games. The subjects were MIA 3 student of SMA 10 Palembang. This study was design research of development study in which had two stages: the preliminary and formative evaluation. The formative evaluation includes self-evaluation, one-to-one and expert review, small group, and field test. The context is used to have the students estimate maximum numbers of exercising athletes in a hall with a specific size. The result of the analysis shows that the problems which were reviewed by three expert reviews are valid qualitatively based on the PISA framework; it is also practical and easy to understand the problem. Based on the analysis of students? answer, the developed problems display potential effects on student?s diverse basic mathematical abilities on the various process of answering the problems. The basic mathematics abilities emerging among which are reasoning and argument ability. It appears that students can develop and solve the problem by modeling using their assumptions. Also, the other ability is designing strategies to solve problems in which students use various procedures in solving problems leading the conclusion.

Abstract

AbstrakPenelitian ini merupakan penelitian pengembangan, dengan tahapan terdiri dari studi pendahuluan, pengembangan produk, dan uji coba. Produk yang dikembangkan adalah instrumen kemampuan penalaran matematis pada mata kuliah Persamaan Diferensial yang terdiri dari enam soal uraian. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa instrumen yang dikembangkan dinyatakan valid dan dapat dipakai untuk mengukur kemampuan penalaran matematis mahasiswa. Kata kunci:       kemampuan penalaran matematis.  AbstractThis research is the development, the stage consists of preliminary studies, product development, and testing. The product developed is an instrument of mathematical reasoning abilities in Differential Equations course consisting of six questions description. Abstract

Tulisan ini memaparkan kevalidan bahan ajar yang didalamnya berupa rangkaian pertanyaan probing prompting dalam upaya mengonstruksi pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap fungsi dua variabel. Strategi probing prompting terdapat pada susunan pertanyaan-pertanyaan dalam bahan ajar yang membantu mahasiswa mengonstruksi pemahamannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan design research tipe development studies. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan adalah walkthrough dan dokumentasi. Penelitian ini menghasilkan bahan ajar berupa rangkaian pertanyaan untuk mengonstruksi pemahaman mahasiswa tentang domain, range, contour plot atau contour maps, surface, dan level of curve (ketinggian kurva) fungsi dua variabel, dan bahan ajar yang dihasilkan dilengkapi dengan bantuan aplikasi Geogebra. Rangkaian pertanyaan untuk materi domain dan range dimulai dari domain dan range fungsi satu variabel. Bahan ajar yang dihasilkan tersebut telah dikatakan valid berdasarkan tahapan yang telah dilaksanakan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui hasil belajar siswa pada materi peluang setelah diterapkan model pembelajaran Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) di kelas VIII. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VIII.1 SMPN 1 Palembang yang terdiri dari 29 orang. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan, yaitu tes tertulis yang terdiri dari tiga soal uraian dan wawancara sebagai pendukung data tes. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa hasil belajar siswa pada materi peluang secara keseluruhan dikategorikan baik dengan rata - rata adalah 76,09, dengan rincian siswa terkategori sangat baik sebanyak 20,69%, terkategori baik sebanyak 44,83%, terkategori cukup sebanyak  24,14%, dan terkategori kurang sebanyak 10,34%. Siswa yang terkategori sangat baik dan baik secara keseluruhan mampu menentukan peluang kejadian dengan mencari banyak ruang sampel dan kejadian suatu percobaan dengan baik. Sedangkan siswa yang terkategori cukup dan kurang masih belum mampu menentukan peluang kejadian yang disebabkan oleh kesalahan dalam menentukan banyak ruang sampel dan kejadian suatu percobaan. Kata kunci: hasil belajar; CMP; peluang This research is a descriptive research that aims to find out student learning outcomes in material of probability after applying model of learning namely Connected Mathematics Project (CMP) in class VIII. The subjects of this research were students of class VIII.1 from SMPN 1 Palembang which consists of 29 students. Technique of collecting data that used on this research were written test which consist of three essay question and interview as a supporter of test data. The research results shows that student learning outcomes in the material of probability overall are categorized good with the average is 76.09, with categorized of excellent students as much as 20.69%,  good categorized as much as 44.83%, enough categorized as much as 24.14% , and the low categorized as much as 10.34%. Students who are categorized excellent and good, overall are able to determine the probability of the event by finding sample space and events of an experiment well. While students who are categorized enough and low still have not been able to determine the probability of events caused by errors in determining the sample space and the event of an experiment. Abstract

Translation of representations is a process of changing representations from one into another one. In generally, mathematics representations consists of symbolical, visual (graphical), verbal, and tabular representations. This article discusses results of research about teacher?s understanding of mathematics representations and its implementation, which is teacher?s ability of translating from symbolical representation to graphical representation and vice versa. The sample of research were 91 mathematics teacher from some districts of South Sumatera and Bangka Belitung provinces. The data of research were collected by test related to addition of integers. The results show that teacher?s ability of translating from symbolical representation into graphical representation is very low which is only 48,4% of the sample could translate the representations correctly, meanwhile teacher?s ability of translating from graphical representation into symbolical representation is quite good which is 75,8% of the sample could translate the representations correctly. The mistakes identified when the mathematics teachers translated symbolic representation to visual representation are the result of addition not presented in numbers line, no the result of addition presented at all,  the order of numbers line not presented clearly, misdirection or no direction of numbers line, and no answers at all. Meanwhile the mistakes identified when the mathematics teachers translated visual representation to symbolic representation are no the result of addition presented, incorrectly order of numbers added, and no answers at all.

Abstract

This research is aimed to create a learning trajectory of linear functions concept using mathematical modeling. The applied learning approach is the Model Eliciting Activities (MEAs). Design research was chosen as the research method consisting of three main phases; preliminary design, teaching experiments, and retrospective analysis. This research was conducted in class X in a public senior high school in Palembang. The result showed the design activity can encourage students to look at the form of modeling (charts/schemes/equation) that students make themself. Through steps on mathematical modeling takes students into the definition of the power to a linear functions, so the students had the idea in providing recommendations to solve real problems in life.
