Abstract

Research on natural enemies of Bemisia tabaci was conducted in the chili pepper fields in Sub-district of Pakem, District of Sleman, The Special Province of Yogyakarta during the dry season of May-October 2009. The aims of this research were to study the diversity and abundance of parasitoid and predator species associated with B. tabaci. Samplings of insect species were done using yellow pan trap, sweep net, direct observation of insects colonized young leaves, and collection of nymphs for B. tabaci. Measurement of insect diversity was calculated using Shannon’s index diversity and Evenness index. Nine species of insect predator were identified, i.e. Harmonia octomaculata (Fabricius), Menochilus sexmaculata (Fabricius), Scymnus sp., Micraspis inops Mulsant, Coccinella sp. (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae), Paederus fuscipes Curtis (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae), Orius sp. (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae), Linyphiidae sp.1 (Araneae), and Syrphidae sp.1 (Diptera). Eretmocerus sp. (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) was the only parasitoid found in the nymphs B. tabaci collected and has the potential to control B. tabaci in the red pepper fields.

Abstract

The research was aimed to determine the susceptibility level rice from the local gogo rice of Subdistrict Tengah Ilir, District Tebo, and Province Jambi to an infestation of S. oryzae pest. The results showed that rice from varieties Tuo and Seribu Naik belong to a category moderate, while rice from varieties Tapang Bedaro and Cemplok belong to a category moderate-susceptible. Rice from varieties Kuku Balam, Rias Besar, Rias Kecil, Korok, Bedaro, Nartih, and Bungin are classified as susceptible to S. oryzae pest infestations.  The result of correlation analysis showed that there was a significant positive correlation between susceptibility index with length rice (r= 0.906**, P<0.01) and shape rice (r= 0.771**, P <0.01) and there was a significant negative correlation with the wide of rice (r= -0.630*, P <0.05).  The susceptibility index was also affected by the number of F1 S. oryzae (r= 0.922**, P <0.01) and a negative correlation was significant with the median development time S. oryzae (r= -0.912**, P<0.01). Dimensions rice such as length rice (r= 0.898**, P<0.01), shape rice (r= 0.911**, P<0.01), and wide rice (r= -0.816 **, P<0.01) also affects the number of F1 S. oryzae of emerging. The dimension of rice is a source of susceptibility to rice against S. oryzae pests.

Abstract

The research of predatory arthropod species diversity in agro-ecosystem is very important because it affects the function of natural enemies in suppressing pest population. Management of paddy through cultivation method can be part of the conservation of predatory arthropods. This study was conducted to analyze and compare the diversity of predatory arthropod with method cultivation conventional and integrated crop management (ICM) and diversity predatory arthropod based on phase growth paddy from cultivation conventional and ICM. The experiment was conducted in lowland rice agro-ecosystem at two plots with conventional cultivation method and ICM. Sampling of predatory Arthropods was done on the phase growth vegetative and generative paddy using net trap, yellow pan trap, and direct observation in the plants. The results showed that the predatory arthropods found were from Insecta and Arachnida class. The species diversity of predatory arthropod at phase growth of generative was higher than vegetative phase both at the conventional and ICM cultivation. Diversity predatory arthropod on the ICM method was higher compared to conventional. Paddy cultivation method with ICM through the rational use of insecticides can be part of conservation for predatory arthropod species.

Abstract

Toxicity n-hexane leaf extract Lantana camara and its active fractions were evaluated for their insecticidal activit  ies against Plutella xylostella larvae. The method included sample extraction, fractionation, and toxicity examination of leaf extract L. camara and its active fractions against P. xylostella larvae.  The extracts were applied by residue method.  Fractionation of active compounds from extract n-hexane was conducted by a vacuum liquid chromatography by using a stationary phase of silicate gel GF254 and mobile phase of n-hexane, etil acetate, and methanol which produced five  fractions, that is fractions A, B, C, D, and E.  Leaf extract of  L. camara and its fractions possessed an insecticidal activity  causing mortality to P. xylostella larvae. The results showed that LC50 of crude extract at 3 and 4 day after applications was 0,936 and 0,651%, while LC50 of fractions A = 0,386 and 0,178%; fractions C = 0,327 and 0,132; fractions D = 0,617 and 0,318%; fractions E = 0,622 and 0,244%.

Abstract

ABSTRACT A research on behavior of pest S. litura on two varieties of soybean has been done in Blang Manyak Village, Sawang Sub district, North Aceh District from January?May 2013. The research was arranged in a field experiment with two treatments of soybean varieties, that is Kipas Merah and Anjasmoro.  Each treatment was repeated 20 times to obtain 40 units of the experiment. Variables measured included damage intensity of S. litura, trichome density of leaves, yield components, and resistance evaluation. The relationships between yield components and damage intensity of S. litura were analyzed with regression and correlation. The results showed that damage intensity of S. litura on Kipas Merah was lower than that on Anjasmoro. Loss of soybean yield components on both varieties was influenced by the damage intensity of S. litura. There was a negative correlation between damage intensity of S. litura and soybean yield components on both varieties.  Kipas Merah was moderately resistant and Anjasmoro was susceptible against S. litura.  Resistance differences of both varieties were influenced by trichomes density of the leaves.
