Abstract

AbstractFoliar fertilizer application on sugarcane plantations using a knapsack sprayer was ineffective in spraying liquid foliar fertilizer evenly across the surface of the leaf. To improve its performance, a knapsack power sprayer was modified and tested, for a better comfort and effectiveness of the liquid foliar fertilizer application. The motor sprayer was modified by replacing its big fluid tank with a smaller fluid tank of the manual sprayer. The nozzle pipe was modified in such a way to be used in spraying two rows of sugarcane in one pass. The modified motor sprayers were tested in sugarcane plantation for applying the foliar fertilizer. The test results showed that the motor sprayers could spray the fluid fertilizer in more effective and uniform spraying than that of the manual sprayer. Spraying using high pressure of the motor sprayer could spray the foliar fertilizer to the leaf surface uniformly. The droplet size was more tiny, and could reach the entire leaf of the sugarcane. The operators like to use the modified motor sprayer. The average working capacity of the power sprayer was 0.4 ha/ hour per man.Keywords: motor sprayer, modification, sugarcane, fluid fertilizer, working performance AbstrakAplikasi pupuk daun di perkebunan tebu menggunakan sprayer manual tipe gendong, tidak efektif menyemprotkan cairan pupuk daun secara merata ke seluruh permukaan daun. Untuk memperbaiki kinerjanya, maka telah dilakukan percobaan aplikasi sprayer bermotor yang dimodifikasi, sesuai kebutuhan kenyamanan dan efektivitas penyemprotannya. Sprayer bermotor dimodifikasi dengan mengganti tangki cairannya yang terlalu besar, menggunakan tangki cairan dari sprayer tipe gendong manual yang berukuran lebih kecil. Selain itu, batang nosel diperbaiki ukurannya dan arah semprotnya agar dapat digunakan menyemprot di dua sisi barisan tanaman dalam satu lintasan penyemprotan. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa kinerja sprayer bermotor hasil modifikasi lebih baik dari kinerja sprayer bermotor sebelum modifikasi dan lebih baik dari kinerja sprayer tipe gendong manual. Hasil semprotan sprayer bermotor dengan tekanan yang lebih tinggi, mampu menyemprotkan cairan pupuk ke permukaan daun secara merata. Butiran semprotan lebih halus, dan daun yang tersemprot lebih banyak. Operator juga menyukai penggunaan sprayer bermotor hasil modifikasi tersebut. Kapasitas kerja rata-rata dengan sprayer bermotor adalah 0.4 ha/jam per orang.Kata kunci: sprayer bermotor, modifikasi, tebu, pupuk cair, kinerja

Abstract

Kalanchoe is the biggest genera of Crassulaceae family and distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. This genera is found to be a rich source of biologically active natural products such as triterpenes, flavonoids and steroids. As a part of our continuing search for novel insecticidal compounds from Indonesian Kalanchoe plants, we examined Kalanchoe daigremontiana collected from Bandung region, West Java, Indonesia. The methanolic extract of the dried leaves of K. daigremontiana was concentrated and extracted with methylene chloride The methylene chloride extract exhibited an insecticidal activity toward silkworms. The methylene chloride extract was partitioned between n-hexane and methanol containing 10% water. The active lower layer was extracted with ethyl acetate. By using the insecticidal activity to follow the separations, the ethyl acetate fraction was separated by combination of column chromatography on Kieselgel 60 and ODS to afford two insecticidal bufadienolides 1 and 2. The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on spectroscopic analysis (UV, IR, NMR, 2D-NMR) and comparison with those related data previously reported. In this paper, the isolation, structural elucidation, and insecticidal activities against the third instar larvae of silkworm will be described.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe diversity of butterflies’ family of Nymphalidae and Pieridae at Cirengganis area and Cikamal Savannah area of Pananjung Sanctuary of PangandaranThe research reported the diversity o.f butterflies of Nymphalidae and Pieridae Families at Cirengganis area and Cikamal Savannah area which located at Pananjung Sanctuary, Pangandaran. The experiment was conducted using visual encounter survey method. The butterflies were caught using sweeping technique. The butterflies were collected and identified. Abiotic factors such light intensity and temperature were measured during observation. The result showed that 13 species of nymphalidae family were identified whilst only 2 species were identified belongs to the family of Pieridae. Butterfly diversity index at Cirengganis and Cikamal Savannah categorized as moderate with value of 2.285647. Vegetation that interacted with the butterflies were Tectona grandis), Psychotria aurantiaca, and Melastoma malabathricum. Furthermore, light intensity and temperature at Cirengganis were detected at 12473.33 lux and 28.6oC, respectively. While at Cikamal Savannah, the light intensity was measured at 26900 lux and temperature reached 33.6oC.Keywords: Visual encounter survey, Abiotic factor, VegetationABSTRAKPenelitian ini melaporkan mengenai keanekaragaman Jenis Kupu-Kupu Famili Nymphalidae dan Pieridae di kawasan Cirengganis dan Padang Rumput Cikamal Cagar Alam Pananjung Pangandaran. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode Visual Encounter Survey (VES). Penangkapan kupu-kupu dilakukan dengan teknik sweeping. Kupu-kupu yang diperoleh dikoleksi dan diidentifikasi. Faktor abiotik seperti intensitas cahaya dan suhu diukur selama pengamatan. Serta diamati pula vegetasi sekitar lokasi pengamatan yang berinteraksi dengan kupu-kupu. Hasil pengamatan diperoleh total kupu-kupu famili Nymphalidae sebanyak 13 spesies dan kupu-kupu famili Pieridae sebanyak 2 spesies. Nilai indeks keanekaragaman kupu-kupu di kawasan Cirengganis dan Padang Rumput Cikamal tergolong kategori sedang yaitu 2,285647. Hasil vegetasi yang diketahui berinteraksi dengan kupu-kupu yaitu jati (Tectona grandis), ki kores (Psychotria aurantiaca), dan harendong (Melastoma malabathricum). Sementara rata-rata intensitas cahaya dan suhu di Cirengganis sebesar 12473,33 lux dan 28,6oC dan di Padang Rumput Cikamal sebesar 26900 lux dan 33,6oC.Kata Kunci: Visual Encounter Survey, Faktor abiotik, Vegetasi

Abstract

This paper raises the issue of the opinion of Garut Islamic scholars (ulama) about cash waqf and limited time (mu‘aqqat) of waqf, two issues of waqf are considered as the new problems of waqf for the Indonesian muslims as opposed to their view before. The findings of this study are as follows: 1) Garut Islamic scholars agree that the law of cash waqf is permitted becouse that cash waqf does not conlict with essence of waqf; 2) There are differences of opinion among Garut scholars relating the law of limited time of waqf. Some of them said that this waqf allowed becouse it does not conflict with the meaning and the esssence of waqf, even charitable opportunites for the community will be greater in the presence of limited waqf. Some other scholars consider that limited time of waqf have violated the essence of waqf to be timeless, forever. However, they still consider that there is virtue of this type of waqf, and still allowed conducted with a note its name is not waqf.

Abstract

The problem of sugarcane trash after harvesting is experienced by the world's sugarcane plantations, including those in Indonesia. Large amount of sugarcane trash left in the field makes difficulties in soil management and plant maintenance. Current practice done by the sugarcane plantations was “burning before soil tillage”. However, the practice of burning cause unwanted impact to the environment and human health. Meanwhile, sugarcane trash still rich of nutrients for the land. The trash size is still long so that it should be reduced to improve composting process. The prototype was tested on 4 levels of reel rotational speeds and 4 levels of trash densities. During the tests, cutting torque and rotational speed of the reel were measured using a torque-meter and a digital tachometer. The prototype chopped up sugarcane trash of about 1.7 - 3.2 cm length. Higher trash density caused a higher cutting torque and cutting power, while higher rotational speed caused a lower cutting torque and a higher cutting power. The highest cutting torque was 4.03 kg.m, when chopped sugarcane trash of 32 kg/m3 in trash density on 400 rotational speed. Increasing the rotational speed caused a shorter trash size.

Abstract

Abstract Two sets of movable lug wheel with spring mechanism for hand tractors have been designed and tested. The wheels were set on local hand tractors and tested for tilling paddy fields in Cianjur and Subang districts, West Java. A local fixed lug wheel was also tested in each location. The movable lug wheel for Cianjur location was equipped with a pair of coiled type torsion springs on each lug, while the movable lug wheel for Subang location was equipped with a shaft type torsion spring on each lug. Field performances: theoretical and actual field capacities, wheel slip, and wheel shrinkage, were measured during the test. The test result in Cianjur showed that the movable lug wheel had a better traction performance than the fixed lug wheel. The average wheel slip of the movable lug wheel was 11.54%, while the average wheel slip of the fixed lug wheel was 20.89%. Field efficiency of the movable lug wheel was 76.33%, which was bigger than the fixed lug wheel (68.45%). However, the test result using shaft type torsion springs in Subang showed that the spring mechanism did not work well, and the spring mechanism should be modified on its torsion-shaft diameter and welding strength. Abstract

Abstract A prototype of integrated machine for tillage, planting and fertilizer application for corn cultivation powered by hand tractor was modified to improve the planting and fertilizing performances. The fertilizer hopper was redesigned and separated to be two hoppers for urea, and for a mixture of TSP and KCl. The hoppers which had a bigger capacity were placed on left and right sides of the machine. For a better arrangement, the seed hopper was set on the middle part between the fertilizer hoppers. The rotor of fertilizer metering device were redesigned to become an edge cell type rotor, and equipped with a metering cylinder. Materials of the driving wheel were changed by thinner and lighter materials. To improve its driving force, the wheel was equipped by radial lugs and side rims which were set on the main rim. The stationer test result showed that the fertilizer application rate could be varied by setting the rotor opening of the metering device. Capacity of the fertilizer hopper was increased from 5 kg to 12 kg. By modification, the machine weight could be decreased and the vertical load on the handle of the tiller could be decreased from 50 kg (the first prototype) to 31 kg (modified prototype). The application of urea, TSP and KCl could be carried out well, in proper dosage. The theoretical field capacity of the modified prototype was 0.16 ha/hour, and the effective field capacity was 0.13 ha/hour. Hoper pupuk didesain ulang dan dibagi dua untuk menampung pupuk urea dan campuran pupuk TSP dan KCl. Hoper pupuk dengan kapasitas lebih besar ditempatkan di bagian sisi kiri dan kanan dari mesin. Untuk susunan yang seimbang, hoper benih ditempatkan di tengahnya. Rotor penjatah pupuk dirancang ulang menjadi rotor tipe edge-cell, dan dilengkapi selubung pengatur penjatahan pupuk. Bahan roda penggerak dipertipis dan diperingan. Untuk meningkatkan kemampuan gerak memutarnya, roda tersebut dilengkapi dengan sirip-sirip radial dan pelek samping. Hasil pengujian stasioner menunjukkan bahwa penjatahan pupuk dapat diatur dengan mudah.  Kapasitas hoper pupuk meningkat dari 5 kg menjadi 12 kg. Bobot mesin dapat dikurangi, sehingga beban angkat pada stang traktor berkurang dari 50 kg menjadi 31 kg. Pemupukan urea, TSP+KCl dapat dilakukan dengan dosis yang sesuai.  Kapasitas lapangan teoritis mesin hasil modifikasi adalah 0.16 ha/jam dan kapasitas lapangan efektifnya adalah 0.13 ha/jam. Abstract

AbstractTo improve the performance of corn planter powered by hand tractor, the following efforts were carried out: a) the evaluation of minimum tillage (strip tillage) using rotary tiller, b) the evaluation of the performance of the drive system for seed metering device; and c) modifications of the planting and fertilizing units. The machine capacity to be improved by using two planting rows in one pass. The machine was driven by a hand tractor equipped with a rotary tiller unit. The experiment results show that the strip tillage using the rotary tiller could be done when the soil is plowed, in a relatively loose condition. Among the five types of drive wheel to rotate the seed metering device, lugged rubber wheel had the lowest level of sliding (21- 22%), and produced seed spacing of the closest to the target (19-21 cm). The evaluation showed that one drive wheel is not able to drive two units of seed metering device and two units of fertilizer metering device. Rotation of tractor axle can be used effectively to drive the rotor of two units of the fertilizer applicator and corn seed metering devices of two planter units, using the sprocket-chain transmission. Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa pengolahan tanah strip dengan unit pengolah tanah rotari bisa dilakukan dengan baik bila tanah sudah dibajak, dalam kondisi yang relatif gembur. Dari lima jenis roda bantu untuk menggerakkan sistem penjatah benih, roda penggerak karet bersirip memiliki tingkat luncuran yang paling rendah (21-22%), dan menghasilkan jarak tanam benih yang paling mendekati target (19-21 cm). Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa sebuah roda bantu tidak mampu menggerakkan dengan baik dua unit penjatah benih dan dua unit penjatah pupuk. Putaran poros roda traktor dapat digunakan secara efektif untuk menggerakkan poros rotor penjatah pupuk pada dua unit pemupuk dan poros piringan penjatah benih jagung pada dua unit penanam, menggunakan transmisi sproket-rantai. Abstract

Probiotic bacteria collection from the rice plant tissue (i.e. endophytic 467 and endophytic 748 isolates), the rhizosphere (Ralstonia pickettii TT47) and that from the ground (actinomycetes 6) has been reported as biocontrol agents. The effect of pellet containing probiotic bacteria to suppress Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae pathogen in rice seed has not been known thoroughly. This research was carried out to evaluate the effect of pellet containing probiotic bacteria in maintaining viability of rice seeds infected by X. oryzaepv. oryzae. A dual culture method was used to test the antagonistic activities between probiotic bacteria and X. oryzaepv. oryzae. Isolates R. pickettii TT47, endophytic 467 and actinomycetes 6 showed antagonistic activities against X. oryzae pv. oryzae. Among them, only endophytic 467 and actinomycetes 6 that showed compatibility. Pellet formulation (talc + CMC 1.5% + glycerol 1%) contain actinomycetes 6 singly or combination with endophytic 467 in infected Ciherang rice seed was able to suppress population X. oryzaepv. oryzae as long as 6 weeks storage. While, the highest percentage of seed germination and seedling growth rate during 6 weeks storage was obtained on pellet formulation with R. pickettii TT47, i.e. 86.67% and 17.17% etmal-1 respectively and significantly different with infected nonpelleted rice seed (62.67% and 11.02% etmal-1). In conclusion, the application of probiotic bacteria R. pickettii TT47, endophytic 467 and actinomycetes 6 in pellet formulation was effective to decrease X. oryzaepv. oryzae and maintain viability of infected rice seed in 6 weeks storage.

Abstract

AbstractThe existing hitch system which pulled trailer on the two-wheel tractor had disadvantages when turning it, the tractor handlebar moved away from operator control, consequently the handlebar position is already beyond the operator control range so the operator had to bend. For a larger radius turning, the operator had to descend from operator seat. The purpose of this study was to design an ergonomic trailer hitching system for Indonesian operator. Prototype tests carried out include performance and functional testing. The pivot type trailer hitching system was the most superiortype compare to the other concept. With the design of this system the operator's position is fixed to the handlebars of the two-wheeled tractor, both in straight and turn operations, so that theoperator can fully control the two-wheeled tractor along with all the control levers. The ideal dimension of the operator seat were seat height of 410 mm, backrest distance of 1700 mm, seat length of 320 mm, and seat width of 300 mm. Two-wheel tractor with pivot type trailer hitching system has a turning radius of 2.18 m - 2.82 m better than existing system of 3.72 m - 4.03 m.AbstrakSistem penggandengan konvensional untuk menarik trailer pada traktor roda dua memiliki kelemahan pada saat berbelok, stang traktor bergerak menjauh dari posisi kendali operator, akibatnya posisi stang sudahberada di luar kendali jangkauan operator sehingga operator harus membungkuk. Untuk belokan dengan sudut yang lebih besar operator harus turun dari tempat duduk operator untuk dapat mengendalikan traktor. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mendesain sistem penggandengan trailer yang ergonomis untuk operator Indonesia.Pengujian-pengujian prototipe yang dilakukan meliputi pengujian kinerja dan fungsional. Sistem penggandengan trailer tipe pivot merupakan yang paling unggul dibandingkan dengan konsep-konsep lainnya. Dengan desain sistem ini posisi operator adalah tetap terhadap alat-alat kendali traktor, baik dalam keadaan berjalan lurus maupun berbelok, sehingga operator dapat sepenuhnya mengendalikan traktor roda dua beserta semua tuastuas kendalinya. Dimensi-dimensi ideal tempat duduk operator (seat) adalah tinggi tempat duduk (Td) 410 mm, jarak sandaran duduk (Jd) 1700 mm, panjang tempat duduk (Pd) 320 mm, dan lebar tempat duduk (Ld) 300 mm. Traktor roda dua dengan sistem penggandengan tipe pivot memiliki radius putar 2.18 m – 2.82 m, lebih baik dibandingkan sistem konvensional yaitu 3.72 m – 4.03 m.
