Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the external physical quality and sensory quality of eggs fed diets added with purslane meal (Portulaca oleraceae) as a source of alpha-linolenic acids. The materials used were Hy-Line Brown laying hen (n= 150 hens, 54 weeks old). The design of the study was a one way classification with five experimental diets. Each diet was replicated five times with five hens for each replication. The diets were formulated by supplementing purslane meal to a basal diet. The levels of purslane meal were 0% (T0), 2% (T1), 4% (T2), 6% (T3), 8% (T4). The diets were given to the hens for 35 days with 7 days of adaptation period. To analyse the external quality of the eggs, a total of 30 eggs (n=6 per dietary treatment) collected at day 33, 34, and 35 were used. The sensory analysis used eggs from day 32. The results of the external quality of eggs showed that the addition of purslane meal (Portulaca oleracea) into the diets of laying hens reaching a level of 8% tended to increase egg weight and did not decrease shell thickness, shell weight, the shape index, and specific gravity (P>0.05). Dietary inclusion of purslane meal up to a level of 8% significantly increased (P<0.01) the preference of egg yolk color while texture, taste, flavor, and overall acceptance were not affected. The conclusion is that purslane meal can be included in the laying hen diets up to a level of 8% without decreasing the external physical quality and the sensory quality of boiled eggs. Diets containing purslane meal increase the preference of egg yolk color due to the increase in yolk color intensity.

Abstract

This study aims to determine differences of production, the physical quality and chemical quality of dairy cattle mastitis patients before and after treatment with antibiotics penicillin-streptomycin. This research was conducted in farmer group (KTT) Subur Makmur, Banyuanyar Village, District Ampel, Boyolali. The material used is 15 cows PFH suffering from mastitis in lactation period 3rd trimester, aged 3 to 5 years. Combinations of antibiotics used is penicillin G 3 grams of mixed powder injection streptomycin sulfate injection of 1 gram powder is then dissolved with aquadestilata until volume of 15 ml. Antibiotics do 1 times a day for 5 days intramuscularly and intramammae. This research was carried out experimentally with two treatments and 15 replications. Data were analyzed by paired sample t-test (paired sample t-test). The analysis showed highly significant (P<0,01) on milk production, protein content, lactose, fat, nonfat dry (BKTL) and the Californian Mastitis Test (CMT), significant differences (P<0,05) pH, color, smell and consistency as well as the difference was not significant (P>0,05) against density. The conclusion of this research is the treatment of penicillin-streptomycin antibiotic use in dairy cows mastitis patients effectively improve the production, chemical quality and physical qualities but can not improve the density of milk. Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate the impact of feed technology on changing of milk and feed price, and also its impact on efficiency of feed technology in dairy farm. In this study, fifteen lactating dairy cows were divided into 3 groups based on the feed technology. Production parameters measured were milk production and quality for 42 days, while economic parameters were milk and feed price. The highest milk production was produced by feed technology III which was Rp. 11,845 l/herd/day. The highest milk quality was resulted in by feed technology II with quality standard of fat 3.960%, SNF 8.312%, TS 12.272%, and milk density 1.029. Result showed that the lowest was by feed technology III, which was Rp. 1,143.80/l. Income Over Feed Cost (IOFC) showed that the use of feed technology III was more efficient than other feed technologies, which was Rp. 24,664.55/herd/day with the milk price of Rp. 4,207.55/l.Key words: Feed technology, milk production, milk quality, milk price, feed price

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of inclusion plant source of n 3 fat in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA, 18:3n-3) on the diets of layers on production performance and physical quality of eggs. A total of  125 Hy-Line Brown hens (38 weeks old) were placed at individual cages and assigned to five dietary treatments. The dietary treatments were supplemented with 0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0% purslane meal. Laying hens were fed for five weeks following a seven day adaptation period. Water and feed were provided ad libitum. Feed intake (FI) measured weekly and feed consumption ratio (FCR) was calculated at the end of the trial. A total of 25 egg yolk samples of day 35 (n = 5 egg yolks for each treatment) were collected to analyse physical quality of eggs. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Differences between treatment means were further analyzed using Duncans New Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Results showed that the incorporation of plants rich in ALA did not modify FI, FCR, and egg production. Supplementation of purslane meal in the diets had no effect on physical quality of eggs, including egg weight, yolk weight, albumen index, yolk index and Haugh Unit (HU). The average of egg weight and yolk weight were 60,5 and 15.3 g, respectively. Diet containing purslane meal increased yolk colour. In conclusion, laying hens that fed diet supplemented with purslane meal rich in ALA improved yolk colour and did not change the production performance of the laying hens or the qualities of the eggs.

Abstract

Fresh milk is highly nutritious food because its contain substances that complete food. The high nutritional value of milk causes a media which is preferred by the microorganisms to grow and develop in a very short time become unfit milk consumed when handled incorrectly. Safety milk from contamination during the distribution process becomes very important because of a race against time. Considering the conditions on the farm people milk distribution process normally without treatment (cooling), so that the required distribution by the shortest route, the fastest time and low cost. This study aims to minimize lines and distribution costs of fresh milk as marketing efficiency efforts. The research location is taken purposively based on the consideration that the District Mojosongo has the second largest population of dairy cows in Boyolali. The analytical method used is the analysis of marketing costs, margins and profit marketing, marketing efficiency and Traveling Salesman Problem analysis to determine the shortest distance, fastest time and lowest cost. Fresh milk marketing channels used dairy producers in the district Mojosongo there are three channels following the channel I: Farmer to Consumer, Channel II: Farmers to Traders collector to Consumer and Channels III: Farmers to Traders collector to wholesaler to the milk processing industry. Channel I is the most efficient marketing channel because this channel sells directly from farmers to consumers. The most effective marketing channels using the Travelling Salesman Problem is the distribution channels II because this path has the shortest distance, fastest time to maintain the quality of fresh milk and cost efficiency.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to compare the utilization of decomposer from bioethanol waste (DLB) with various commercial decomposers on quality of compost made from cattle dung. This study used completely randomized design (one-way ANOVA) with four treatments and five replications. Materials used in this study were cattle dung, water, molasses, DLB and various commercial decomposers (A, B, and C). The treatments in this study were cattle dung + BLB 0.5% (P0), cattle dung + decomposer A 0.5% (P1), cattle dung + decomposer B 0.5% (P2) and cattle dung + decomposer C 0.5% (P3). Then, the mixtures were aerobically ripened until four weeks. During composting, compost was stirred weekly. Furthermore, mature compost was analyzed to evaluate the amount of C Organic, total N, total P, total K, total Ca, total Mg, C/N ratio and pH value. The analysis of variance showed that there was no difference of the quality and pH value of compost made from cattle dung with utilization of DLB and commercial decomposers. It could be concluded that utilization of DLB in composting of cattle dung had identically quality and pH value of compost with utilization of commercial decomposers, therefore, this technology could be an alternative to process waste from home industry of bioethanol.

Abstract

Halal is one of important aspects in consumer protection. Meat and processed meat products are food that should be controlled strictly because those are prone to be adulterated by pork contamination. Therefore, it is necessary to provide detection technique which is accurate, fast and cheap. The objective of this research was to identify the presence of impurities of pork meat on raw chicken meat using gene Cyt-b with duplex-PCR analysis. This research used six samples of raw chicken meat and raw pork. Raw chicken meat was bought from supermarkets in the city of Surakarta and raw pork was obtained from pig slaughterhouse. The percentage of raw pork contamination on raw chicken meat was designed as much as 1, 5, 10, and 25%, respectively. The DNA genome was isolated according to DNA isolation protocol from Genomic DNA Mini Kit. In addition, duplex-PCR was performed based on protocol of KAPA2G Fast Multiplex PCR kit. The data was descriptively analyzed by directly looking the DNA bands on the gel documentation apparatus. The result showed that specific DNA bands for chicken and pig were completely appeared on 1.5% of agarose gels. Duplex-PCR detect contamination of pork on raw meat of chicken at all contamination levels. This research proved that the duplex-PCR detect the contamination of pork until the level of 1%.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) analyzing the products flow, financials flow and information flow on the beef supply chain, (2) analyze the level of efficiency in the marketing of beef supply chain, (3) analyze the value added in the process of cutting a beef cattle in Surakarta. This research was carried out in September – November 2016 in Surakarta. The methods used in this research is a survey method. Sampling method in this research is purposive sampling technique and snowball sampling. The analysis of the data used in this research is descriptive analysis, efficiency of marketing and value added analysis method with Hayami. The results of the analysis show that: (1) there are 3 streams in the beef supply chain in Surakarta there are: products flow, financial flow and information flow that goes with the optimal; (2) beef distribution channels in Surakarta is efficient based on the value of the marketing efficiency of 0,79%, margins of profitable marketing (Ski > Sbi) amounting to Rp 7,500 and shared value that is proportionate in accordance with the contribution given per link; and (3) the average value obtained is Rp 70.551, 18/kg or 59.8% of total output produced.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kualitas fisik dan organoleptik bakso berbahan dasar daging ayam yang berasal dari ayam broiler yang diberi pakan dengan suplementasi tepung purslane sebagai sumber asam lemak omega-3. Materi penelitian menggunakan 30 sampel daging paha atas ayam broiler strain Cobb yang dipanen pada umur 42 hari dengan perlakuan ransum basal yang mengandung 1,5% minyak ikan sarden dan suplementasi tepung purslane dengan level yang berbeda. Perlakuan penelitian ini terdiri dari bakso daging ayam yang berasal dari ayam broiler yang diberi pakan dengan suplementasi tepung purslane 0% (P1);  6% (P2), 12% (P3), dan 18% (P4). Enam ekor ayam dari masing-masing perlakuan diproses menjadi karkas dan selanjutnya diambil daging paha atas (thigh) dikumpulkan untuk pembuatan bakso. Pengujian kualitas bakso meliputi pengujian kualitas fisik dan organoleptik. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis variance (ANOVA) yang dilanjutkan dengan uji Tukey?s Test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan penggunaan daging ayam yang diberi pakan mengandung tepung purslane sampai level 18% tidak memberikan perbedaan terhadap kualitas fisik bakso (pH, daya ikat air, susut masak), kualitas organoleptik dan penerimaan konsumen, dibandingkan bakso dari daging ayam tanpa pemberian tepung purslane. Disimpulkan bahwa bakso yang mengandung daging ayam yang diberi pakan dengan suplementasi tepung purslane sampai level 18% dapat diaplikasikan pada pembuatan bakso tanpa merubah kualitas fisik dan organoleptik bakso.
