Abstract

Ants are one of the insects that are opportunist or adaptable  in various places, including hospitals. Ants that are famous as pest in hospital is Monomorium sp. In the United Kingdom it has been reported that the main problem caused by these ants are skin irritation and skin lesions that develop into infections, because of the presence of microorganisms carried by these ants. The purpose of this research is to determine the types of bacteria carried by Monomorium sp. in the  ?X? Hospital of Kendal district. Sampling is done by trapping with bait trap which was carried out in class III inpatient room at X Hospital of Kendal district. Identification of ants using the Key to Vietnamese literature Myrmicinae Genera and Key to Australian Genera of Myrmicinae. Three positive rooms were found in Monomorium sp. there are inpatient room of pediatric patients (30.8%), inpatient room of postpartum patients (46.1%) and inpatient room of patients in internal medicine 1 (23.1%). The bacteria found in Monomorium sp. were Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus sp. and Bacillus sp. An integrated ants control in hospital and socialization to patients, visitors or officers about the importance of preventing contact between body, food and drink with ants in the hospital is required to minimize their potential as vector of agent of diseases, especially bacteria.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is a significant health problem in Semarang, Indonesia. A Certain type of insecticides has been widely applied beginning in the last decade as an effort to control the mosquito vectors of dengue virus. This practice could lead to increased resistance in mosquito populations toward these types of insecticides. This research aimed to describe the resistance status of Aedes sp. populations in Semarang. A cross-sectional design study was conducted in 2015, with Aedes sp. populations sampled in several villages of Semarang. Field strains of Aedes sp. eggs were collected using ovitraps and larvae from entomological surveys. Mosquito adults were raised from the collected eggs and larvae under standard conditions and used for biochemical assays. ELISA examined Aedes sp. resistance status. The results showed that there was monooxygenase activity in Aedes sp. populations. In quantitative terms, 77.8% of mosquito samples showed an Optical Density (OD) more than the cut-off point (0.165). Resistance to synthetic pyrethroid insecticide in Aedes sp. mosquitoes population in Semarang may be caused by the mechanism of monooxygenase detoxification enzymes in particular. This case indicated that Aedes sp. has a high capacity as a vector to transmit the dengue virus in Semarang.

Abstract

Kecubung (Datura metel L.) merupakan jenis tanaman perdu yang mempunyai batang kayu, keras, dan tebal. Daun kecubung mengandung senyawa kimia alkaloid, saponin, flavonoida, dan fenol. Dilihat dari kandungan kimianya daun kecubung memiliki potensi sebagai insektisida nabati yang dapat menggantikan penggunaan insektisida sintetik. Penggunaan insektisida sintetik dalam mengendalikan populasi Aedes aegypti L. telah menimbulkan dampak negatif, diantaranya adalah polusi lingkungan, masalah kesehatan masyarakat, dan resistensi vektor. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektifan ekstrak daun kecubung dalam menghambat penetasan telur dan  siklus hidup Ae. aegypti. Jenis penelitian ini adalah true experiment dengan 4 kali pengulangan dan perlakuan 6 konsentrasi, yaitu 125, 250, 500, 750, 1.000, dan 1.250 ppm. Subyek penelitian adalah telur Ae. aegypti fertil. Setiap unit perlakuan ditempatkan 25 telur sehingga jumlah total telur yang dibutuhkan adalah 800 butir telur nyamuk. Metode yang digunakan untuk ekstraksi adalah maserasi. Hasil analisis probit menunjukkan aktivitas insektisida ekstrak daun kecubung dengan nilai LC50 sebesar 199,340 ppm dan nilai LC90 sebesar 749,080 ppm. Hasil uji ANOVA menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan rata-rata jumlah telur yang tidak menetas akibat paparan ekstrak daun kecubung (P = 0,001). Persentase kegagalan penetasan telur Ae. aegypti paling rendah pada konsentrasi 125 ppm, yaitu sebesar 41% dan yang paling tinggi pada konsentrasi 1250 ppm, yaitu sebesar 98%. Daya hidup larva, pupa, dan nyamuk paling tinggi pada konsentrasi 125 ppm, yaitu masing-masing sebesar 49,18%; 55,17%, dan 43,75%. Sebagai kesimpulan, ekstrak daun kecubung memiliki potensi sebagai insektisida nabati terhadap telur Ae. aegypti.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever is an infectious disease which becomes one of the most important public health problems in Indonesia. IR DBD Semarang in 2015 was 98.61 per 100,000 population. School is a potential place in the spread and transmission of dengue disease. The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of health education on students and janitors. This research is a quasi-experimental design with pretest-posttest control group design. The samples studied there were 6 primary schools, 3 samples the experimental group and 3 samples the control group. Data were analyzed using t test independent sample and Mann Whitney. The results showed that there is significant differences knowledge of students between control group and experimentation (p = <0.001). So also with the attitude of students that there are significant differences between the experimental and control groups, p = 0.013. On knowledge, attitude and practice of janitors there is no significant difference between the control group and the experimentation, the views of p = 0.184 and 0.317. The density of larvae, there is significant difference Container Index (CI) between control group and experimentation (p = 0,015). House Index (HI) has decreased, but above the standard (> 5%) and Larvae Free Index (ABJ) has increased, but still below the standard (<95%). The conclusion of this research, there is the effect of health education on the knowledge and attitude of students, Container Index (CI) but there isn?t effect on the knowledge, attitude and practice of primary school's janitors..

Abstract

The garbage problems are negative effects of the growing population, the impact of garbage indirectly as the breeding place of vector born disease that is flies. Flies have significant roles for several public health problems.Data on density and type of flies needed to knowwhere and how the population control of flies could applied effectively and efficiently.This research conducted in Jatibarang landfill. The general objective of this research is to know the density flies in Jatibarang landfill Semarang. This research is an exploratory research with cross sectional approach. The population in this research is all the flies in Jatibarang landfill Semarang. The sampling applied in this research is an accidental sampling techniques. The observation was conducted in 3 different areas in 3 different times. The number of flies active zone I 1.707 individual, active zone II 793 individual and passive zone 225 individual.This research showedmore than half of the total flies that caught found in the area active zone I (63%). This research recomendedmanagement of landfill Jatibarang to prefer control of flies population in active zone I and people living in residential area around landfill Jatibarang have to close and protecttableware, food and man from contact directly with flies.

Abstract

Nasi rames is favorite food for many people in all ages, because it tastes good and easy to find. The process of making nasi rames is still traditional and lacks attention of hygiene and sanitation aspects and it can cause bacteria contamination. Escherichia coli is indicator of nasi rames's contamination. The purpose of this study was to determine ralationship between personal hygiene and hygiene practice with the existence of Escherichia coli in nasi rames sold in traditional market of Semarang City. The study design was analytic descriptive using survey method and laboratory examination with cross sectional approach. The study sample taken were 38 nasi rames using purposive sampling method from nasi rames sellers in traditional markets of Semarang City. Data was analyzed using Fisher exact test. The results showed that 30 (78,9%) nasi rames were found to be positive for Echerichia coli. Statistical results showed a relation between personal hygiene (p=0,012) and hygiene practices (p=0,017) with the existence of Escherichia coli in nasi rames. From this study, it can be concluded that personal hygiene and hygiene practices have significant relationship with the existence of Escherichia coli in nasi rames sold in traditional markets of Semarang City.

Abstract

The use of synthetic insecticides already caused resistance, pest resurgence and ecosystem disruption. Alternative way is using Kaffir lime leaves (Citrus hystrix), it can be used as a natural insecticides as it?s contain repellent that useful to repel cockroach. Blatella germanica is a cockroach spesies we usually see in our neighbourhood, so that we have to control this cockroach. The purpose of this research is to measure the ability of young kaffir lime leaves with the old one. This research use the experimental research method in laboratory with complete random research design. Sample of this research are 280 mature Blatella germanica age 1,5-4 months old which has complete body structure. This research use 3 typhes of stages and 9 times repetitions. We could say that kaffir lime leaves is effective as repellent if it has protection power level more than 80%. According to the research there is a result of an effective dosage of kaffir lime leaves as a repellent is 5 grams of old or young leaves with 81,8%, the protection ability of old kaffir lime leaves bigger than the young leaves bigger and the ability to repel Blatella germanica for three days so that kaffir lime leaves can be used as a natural repellent to repel Blatella germanica. The use of kaffir lime leaves can be socialized by related instution and the community can grow kaffir lime around their neighbourhood as a cockroach repellent.

Abstract

The high proportion of Multibaciller cases and the finding of defects in leprosy cases in Tuban caused the low awareness of sufferers in seeking treatment as early as possible after finding out. The purpose of this study is to describe the knowledge, attitudes, and delays in seeking treatment for lepers in Tuban on 2018. This research is a descriptive study with cross sectional study design. The population of this study is leprosy patients registered in the leprosy cohort data of the Health Office on Tuban Regency who are still doing leprosy treatment until 2018. The sampling technique uses proportional random sampling, so there were 112 lepers to be sampled. The variables that be studied were the level of knowledge, attitudes, and delay in seeking treatment. These variables can be measured using a questionnaire and observasion of leprosy cards. Based on research results that more than half of lepers have good knowledge (60.7%), and good attitude (67.9%), but there are still many patients who delayed in seeking treatment is 63.4%. It can be concluded that most of the lepers have good knowledge and attitude, but there are still many lepers have delays in seeking treatment.

Abstract

Background: Tahu Petis is one of the street foods that are prone to Pb contamination from motor vehicle emissions and formaldehyde from tofu. Minister of Health Regulation No. 33 of 2012 prohibits formalin as a food additive and the National Agency for Drug and Food Control regulates the maximum limit of lead contamination in food which is 0.2 mg/kg. Formalin and lead are dangerous if they enter the human body because they can cause cancer and decrease intelligenceMethods: This research method used an analytic survey method with a cross-sectional approach. Data collected through interviews, observations, and laboratory examinations. The number of samples in this study was 30 fried tofu from 30 traders.Result: The results showed that 46.7% of samples were positive formalin with a range of 2.25-13.25 ppm and 40% of samples were positive Pb with a range of levels of 0.29-11.53 ppm. The knowledge factor (p=0.153), tofu processing (p=0.157), and tofu storage (p=0.464) did not have a significant relationship with the presence of formalin in the sample. Knowledge factor about Pb (p=0.049) showed a significant relationship with the presence of Pb in the sample, while the use of cooking oil (p=0.266) the distance factor of exposure (p=0.547), length of exposure (p=0.660), and presentation of Tahu Petis (p=1) did not show a significant relationship.Conclusion: Based on these results, it is recommended that there be periodic examinations guidance, and supervision of formaldehyde and Pb contamination in food.

Abstract

Ovitrap use is a method of Aedes sp. control which quite effective without using insecticides and it successfully reduces vector density in some countries. This research aims to determine effectiveness of various types of attractant used in ovitrap that are using hay infusion, yeast tape water, tiger shrimp immersion waterand ordinary water as the control for alternative DHF vector control in Bulusan Village. This research used quasi experimental approach with post test only control group design study. The samples were selected by using purposive sampling and consist of 15 houses in Bulusan Village. The result of Kruskal-Wallis analysis with p=0.058 showed no significant difference between the number of Aedes sp. eggs that trapped by various types of attractant. The total number of eggs were trapped on ovitrap are 436 eggs. The average number of eggs that most trapped is in ordinary water (control), consist of 2,73 eggs/ovitrap outside the house and 13,13 eggs/ovitrap inside the house; 5,06 eggs/ovitrap trapped in hay infusion outside the house and 3,33 eggs/ovitrap inside the house; 4 eggs/ovitrap trapped in yeast tape water outside the house and 0.6 eggs/ovitrap inside the house. The less number of eggs were in tiger shrimp immersion water  that consist of 0,13 eggs/ovitrap outside the house and no egg/ovitrap inside the house. The percentage of Ae.aegypti is 78.22%, higher than Ae. albopictus that only 21.78%. Public Health authorities are expected to disseminate the use of ovitrap as one of alternatives control of DHF vector.
