Abstract

Geometry is a branch of mathematics that is taught with the aim that students can understand the properties and relationships between elements of geometry and can be a good problem solver. There are still many students who have difficulty learning geometry. One of the causes of students' difficulty in understanding geometry is that the learning strategies used are not in accordance with the material being taught. In addition, in geometry learning so far has not been adjusted to the level of development of students' thinking. Therefore an appropriate strategy is needed which is arranged based on the level of development of students' thinking in geometry. Van Hiele's theory-based learning is learning that is adapted to students' thinking stages, so this learning is appropriate if applied in geometry learning. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of geometry problem solving abilities between students taught by cooperative learning based on Van Hiele theory with conventional learning reviewed by students and based on student level. This study uses an experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design design. The instrument used is a geometry problem solving test. The population in this study were students of class XII SMA Negeri 1 Sakti, Pidie Regency, Aceh Province, and the randomly selected sample consisted of two classes into the experimental class and the control class. The data analyzed is data N-gain problem solving ability. From the results of the data analysis, the improvement of students 'geometry problem solving abilities that obtain Van Hiele based learning is better than students who obtain conventional learning in terms of overall students and based on students' level of ability. Thus, in geometry learning it is recommended to apply learning based on Van Hiele theory so that students' geometry problem solving skills can be improved.

Abstract

Problem solving is a process or thinking activity to solve a problem. Mathematical problem solving skills is needed for students both in the process of understanding mathematics itself and in everyday life. The problem solving can be achieved by implementing the learning using problem solving approach which train students to deal with various problems including individuals and group problems to be solved individually or together. This learning is oriented towards the investigation and discovery which is basically solving the problems. It is the basis for students to solve problems critically, systematically, logically, and creatively as well as the ability to collaborate effectively and to present fundamental knowledge which in turn can improve the solving skills. This study aimed to examine whether the improvement of mathematical problem solving skills of students learned with the problem-solving approach was better than students taught using the conventional learning. The improvement was examined in general and based on the students’ levels. The study also aimed to investigate an interaction between the learning (problem solving and conventional approach) and student levels (high, medium and low) in increasing mathematical problem solving skills. This study applied a pre-test and post-test control group design. The population of the study were Year 7 students of one of junior high schools in Pidie, Indonesia, consisting of seven classes in 2017/2018. Two classes, a control and an experimental class, were selected as the sample through purposive sampling technique. The instrument used to obtain the data is the mathematical problem solving skills test. The data was then analyzed by employing a two-way ANAVA test using SPSS. The results of the study showed that the improvement of mathematical problem solving skills of the students learning with the problem-solving approach is better than the students experiencing the conventional learning, reviewed in general and based on student levels. There is no interaction between the learning models and student levels on mathematical problem solving skills. The results are expected to be used as a reference for mathematics teachers to apply the problem-solving approach in the learning process to improve mathematical problem solving skills.

Abstract

This research is introduction by the lack of the students’ understanding of mathematical concept and the mathematics learning activities by teacher center. This research is aims to determine  the implementation of active learning strategy type The Learning Cell in improving students’ understanding of mathematical concept class VIII SMPN 11 Padang. The type of research is experiment with random of subject. Population in this research is students class VIII SMPN 11 Padang who registered in academic year 2012/2013. The technique of sampling is random and selected class VIIIF as an experimental class and VIIIE as a control class. Instrument used was an essay test with a reliability test is 0,826. Based on the analysis of data obtained that the average student learning outcomes experimental class is greater than the control class. Hypothesis testing using one side of t-test with the MINITAB’S program, obtained P-value is less than α. The hypothesis is accepted at the 95% confidence level. Thus it can be concluded that the students’ understanding of mathematical concept with an active learning strategy type The Learning Cell is better than students’ understanding of mathematical concept by implementing conventional learning class VIII SMPN 11 Padang.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the lack of understanding of students’ mathematical concepts and students are not accustomed to propose their ideas. This study aims to determine whether students’ understanding of mathematical concepts by applying active learning strategies Giving Question and Getting Answer (GQGA) type accompanied quiz is better than students’ understanding of mathematical concepts using conventional learning in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Ampek Nagari Agam. This type of research is an experimental research based on the Subject with a Random design. The study population was a class VIII student SMP Negeri 1 Ampek Nagari Agam consisting of three classes. The sample was VIII1 grade students as the experimental class and VIII3 the control class. The research instrument was a quiz and final test in the form of essays. The data obtained were analyzed using t-test of the parties with the help of software MINITAB. Based on the test results obtained by the hypothesis P-value of 0.005 , then the hypothesis in this study received. It can be concluded that the students’ understanding of mathematical concepts by applying active learning strategies Giving Question and Getting Answer (GQGA) type quiz is better than students’ understanding of mathematical concepts applied on conventional learning in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Ampek Nagari Agam.

Abstract

This research is done due to the fact that most of students do not dare to ask about learning material, in oral ways, which is not understood so that students become less active and lack of mastering mathematical concept. This study is aimed to determine how students learning activities are done and to find out whether the understanding of students’ mathematical concept become better by using active learning strategy “Giving Questions and Getting Answers (GQGA)” than the conventional ones. The type of this research is experimental research; with the design of the research is Randomized Subject. The population of this research is students of grade XII Social Science at SMAN 16 Padang which consist of four classes. In determining the experimental class and the control class, researcher chooses it randomly, so that XII Social Science 1 is chosen as experimental class, and XII Social Science 2 as control class. The instruments that are used in this study are students’ activity observation sheet and the test of students’ understanding for mathematical concept. Based on the result of the study, it is found that implementing active learning strategy “Giving Questions and Getting Answers (GQGA) have increasing percentage in each meeting. The result of analysis data find out that two sample classes   normal distributed and homogenous at the level of α = 0,05 and the result of t test is obtained P-value = 0,020, smaller than α = 0,05, so that hypothesis is approved.

Abstract

The research was by student compherension of math concept at still low in class VIII SMP Negeri 11 Padang. This matter is caused by activity read which is conducted by student in study less maximal as preparation learn and lack of active participation of student in study. This research aim to know what is compherension of math concept of student by applying method of SQ3R accompanied by Student Work Sheet (LKS) from at compherension of math concept of student by applying conventional study at class student of VIII SMP Country 11 Padang. This research type is research of experiment with device of random to subjek. Result of analysis of tes final at this research is obtained by data have homogeneous and normal distribution.Result of final tes of student conducted by hypothesis by obtaining P-value 0,010 and less than  that is 0,05 so that raised to be hypothesis to be accepted by at trust level 95% that is compherension of math concept of student by applying method of SQ3R accompanied by Student Work Sheet (LKS) from at compherension of math concept of student by applying conventional study of class of VIII SMP Country 11 Padang.

Abstract

This research is motivated because of low grade of the student’s inability of solving a different problem with example and to undersatand the mathematical concepts of 8th grade students of MTsTI Batang Kabung Padang. The research purpose to determine whether student’s understanding of mathematical concepts through the application of active learning strategies by using Index Card Match type is better than the student’s understanding od mathematical concepts by using conventional learning in class VIII MTsTI Batang Kabung Padang Acedemic Year 2013/ 2014. This type of research is experimental research of experimental studies Against Random Subjects. Analysis technique use the one party t test by using MINITAB. Based on the analysis of data obtained P-value is  smaller than , so it can be concluded that student’s understanding of mathematical concept using active learning strategies Index Card Match type is better than the students understanding of mathematical conceps by using conventional learning in class VIII MTsTI Batang Kabung Padang.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the students math concept comprehension and a sense of responsibility of the student’s exercises are still low. The aims of this research to look at how the development of student’s activity by applying Teknik Bisnis Berisiko to determine whether students math concept comprehensionby applying Teknik Bisnis Beresiko is better than student math concept comprehension by applying conventional learning. The type of research is experimental, population is all student in grade IX SMPN 25 Padang school year 2013/2014. Technique that is used is random sampling. The instrument used in this research was the observation sheet and final test math concept comprehension. Data analysis activities performed byc alculating the percentage of students, the results showed that the students activity has increased. The result of Hypothesis test by using t-test one part with the Minitab Software obtained t>tα. It means that the hypothesis in this research is accept, so it can be concluded that the students math concept comprehension by applying Teknik Bisnis Berisiko is better than the students math concept comprehension by applying conventional learning class IX SMPN 25 Padang school year 2013/2014 .

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low understanding of mathematical concepts grade 8 students in SMPN 1 Bayang. This study aims to determine the development of student’s understanding of mathematical concept by applying instructional method of course review horey accompanied quiz. And to determine whether the student’s understanding of mathematical concept trough course review horey accompanied quiz better than the student’s understanding of mathematical concepts with conventional learning to grade 8 students of SMPN 1 Bayang.This type of research is experimental. The population is all students grade 8 at SMPN 1 Bayang in 2013/2014. Technique of taking sampling is taken randomly which is elected VIII.4 as experimental class and class VIII.2 as control class. The instruments used were the quizzes and final test indicators of understanding the concept. Form used was an essay test with a reliability of 0,75. Based on the analysis of data on student’s understanding of mathematical concepts in the experimental class gained an average of the quizzes : 1st quis is 79, 2nd is 81,80, 3rd is 79,48 and 4th is 75,77. Hypothesis testing uses t-test of the parties, obtained 0,007 P-value less than α=0,05 significance level, the hypothesis is accept. It can be concluded that the student’s understanding of the concept by applying the method mathematical learning of course review horey which is accompanied with quiz better than the student’s understanding of mathematical concepts by applying the conventional learning at grade 8 SMPN 1 Bayang.

Abstract

This research was stimulated by the background of lower comprehension of student’s to mathematic subject that can be seen in semester II at the class X SMAN 1 Bayang Utara. This research aim to know whatever the mathematic concept of students’ comprehension through the implementation of cooperative teaching model of Pair Check was better than conventional teaching model. The type of this research was experimental research. Population of this research was the student at the class XI IPS SMAN 1 Bayang Utara period 2013/2014 consisted two classes. Technique of taking sample was done randomly by selecting the classes was XI IPS.1 as experimental class and class was XI IPS.2 as control class. This research used instrument of final test about the student’s understanding of mathematic concept. The form of test used essay by reliability test score  = 0,90. Technique of data analysis used t-test. Based on the data analysis showed that both class samples have homogeny and normal distribution. The result of hypothesis P-value = 0,033 <  = 0,05. Thus the hypothesis in this research was accepted. Therefore can be concluded that the students’ comprehention about mathematic concept by using cooperative teaching model type of Pair Check was better than students’ comprehention of math concept by using conventional teaching model toward student at the class XI IPS SMAN 1 Bayang Utara period 2013/2014 with the confidence level 95%.
