Abstract

Abstract: The dissable (difabel) students are a part of academic society that have rights to access information resources and library services. This paper tries to describe UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library’s efort to provide some adaptive tools and an atmosphere supporting for the dissable or students accessiblility. This article shows that managers of this institution support policies in favour of the dissable in the university, and this experience could be implemented in  other libraries. Keyword: library services, difabel, accessibility

Abstract

Institusional repository (IR) is an information resource getting spread in some university libraries in Indonesia in the last ten years, including UIN Sunan Kalijaga library. IR as to be an important information resource alternative to the user on acessing information are produced by UIN Sunan Kalijaga academicians. The study aim to know some aspects on IR content aquisition was generated by UIN Sunan Kalijaga library, and how the strategy on encreasing the academicians angagement in IR content acquisition. The study find that the self upload policy of the academician works, and the rector’s decision that all of academician must submit their works to the library as the important things on increasing the academician engagement in the IR content acquisition.

Abstract

This study aims to: 1) raise the institutions awareness about disabilities, especially the awareness in the university library that disability is a part of the academic society. The disabled people have the same rights for facilities and learning support services, therefore every university library should be inclusive and can serve user with disabilities; 2) university library should become disabilities-friendly. This study used literature study and also observation and interviews. The result of this study showed the elements which support university library to be disabilities-friendly namely facilities and infrastructure, human resource, and program socialization.

Abstract

Libraries as nonprofit institutions are required to continue to develop their serviceseven though sometimes they have to face very limited budget conditions. The existingfacilities and opportunities must be optimized so that the library program continues andreaches as many users as possible. Information technology and telecommunicationsare both opportunities and challenges for librarians in order to enforce the existenceof libraries amid the shifting patterns and lifestyles of librarians in addition to thelimitations possessed by libraries.
