Abstract

The immunologic? system? of the body requires? suitable recovery time after? excessive physical? activity. The recovery? time of spleen lymphocytes after? excessive? physical activity? in one? investigation was? 3? days. The? aim? of this? research is to identify?the role of? glutamine? in shortening? the recovery time of? spleen? lymphocytes? after?excessive physical activity. The? study? was conducted? on? 70? adults? Balb/c mice which? were? divided? into? 7? groups, with? a randomized control? group post-test? only design. In this? study? an observation? was made on? spleen? lymphocytes? of control, after? excessive? physical activity(in the the? form of swimming? until? near? drowning) with glutamine,? without glutamine ?and? after? the? recovery time of 1 and 2 days? of? each of? the 10 mice. Spleen? lymphocytes? were? counted in spleen preparation by mikroskop. The data obtained were tested? by? one way Anova. The findings? showed? that the number of spleen? lymphocytes significantly decrease after? excessive? physical activity?? in the?glutamine? and? non glutamine groups ( p < 0,05).The number of spleen? lymphocytes? was? not different as compered to control group or returned? to normal after recovery? time? of 1? day? in? the? glutamine group (p > 0,05 ).?In the nonglutamine group the number of spleen lymphocytes was different from control group until 2 days (p<0,05 ). From this finding it can be concluded that glutamine? shortens the recovery time of spleen lymphocytes? after? excessive? physical activity in mice.

Abstract

High cholesterol diet can increase blood total cholesterol and the incidence of cardiovascular disease.Flavonoid from fruits and vegetables can prevent those conditions due to it?s antioxidant effect. The aimof this study was to examine hypolipidemic and antioxidant possible effects of water extract of purplesweet potato, on blood of local rabbit with high cholesterol diet. This studies used 20 female adult localrabbit which were divided into 2 groups by using randomized pre-test and post-test control group design.Before treatment blood samples were collected from auricula venous to examine the total cholesterol, LowDensity Lipoprotein(LDL), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL), triglyseride, malondialdehide (MDA), totalantioxidant, Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (SGOT), Serum Glutamic Piruvic Transaminase(SGPT), and haemoglobin concentration, as pretest data. After pre-tests, group 1 was given high cholesteroldiet without water extract of purple sweet potato. In contrast group 2 was given high cholesterol diet withwater extract of purple sweet potato. After 3 months of the treatment the blood were collected for posttestexamination. The data was analysed by using t-test. The result showed a significant increase in totalcholesterol, LDL, SGOT,SGPT, and MDA in the blood of group 1( p<0,05), whereas there was a significantdecrease in HDL at the same group (p<0,05). However, after 3 months of the treatment, all of the parametersin group 2 (except the total cholesterol) were not significantly different with the pretest result (p>0.05),although there was a significant difference compared to the control group (p<0.05). Total cholesterol wassignificantly decreased after 3 months of treatment in group 2 (p<0,05). It can be concluded that waterextract of purple sweet potato can keep the lipid profiles in normal range values, prevent the increase ofMDA, increase blood total antioxidant, decrease blood total cholesterol, and safe for the rabbit liver thatgiven high cholesterol diet.

Abstract

Sindrom myofascial pada otot upper trapezius merupakan nyeri otot yang ditandai oleh satu atau beberapa myofascial trigger point pada otot upper trapezius. Posisi kerja statis dalam jangka waktu lama memicu timbulnya masalah tersebutdan mengakibatkan nyeri dan keterbatasan gerak pada leher sehingga akan menimbulkan disabilitas leher. Penanganan fisioterapi berupa integrated neuromuscular inhibition technique (INIT) dan contract relax stretching yang dikombinasikan dengan modalitas ultrasound berdampak pada penurunan disabilitas leher. Tujuan: mengetahui metode yang lebih efektif dalam menurunkan disabilitas leher pada sindrom myofascial otot upper trapezius.Metode: Jenis penelitian eksperimental dengan rancangan randomizedpre test and post test group design. Sampel sebanyak 24 orang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok masing-masing 12 orang secara random. Kelompok perlakuan 1 dengan kombinasi INIT dengan ultrasound, sedangkan perlakuan 2 dengan contract relax stretching dengan ultrasound. Data diperoleh dengan mengukur disabilitas leher menggunakan Neck Disability Index(NDI), lingkup gerak sendi leher (LGS) dengan goniometerpada saat sebelum dan setelah perlakuan. Hasil:Diperoleh penurunan NDI22,50±2,43%(p<0,001) dan peningkatan LGS 5,083±1,0840 (p<0,001) pada Kelompok 1.Kelompok 2 juga terdapat penurunan NDI 17,33±3,05%(p<0,001) dan peningkatan LGS3,333±0,7780 (p<0,001). Hal ini berarti bahwa dalam setiap kelompok terjadi penurunan disabilitas leher secara bermakna. Hasil uji antar kelompok menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang bermakna pada penurunan NDI (p<0,001) dan peningkatan LGS (p<0,001). Simpulan: penambahan INIT lebih menurunkan disabilitas leher daripada contract relax stretching pada intervensi ultrasound dalam kasus sindrom myofascial otot upper trapeziusKata kunci : myofascial, trapezius, INIT, ultrasound, stretching, disabilitas leher

Abstract

Background: Infection is one of the main causes of disease in tropical regions like Indonesia. One of them can be caused by bacterial infection of Staphylococcus epidermidis. Staphylococcus epidermidis is an opportunistic bacterium that attacks individuals when the body's immune system is weak. The incidence of bacterial resistance to antibiotics that already exist so that requires an alternative treatment, one of which is the use of temulawak rhizome extract (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb). Temulawak rhizome is one of the spices which is still often used as traditional medicine among Indonesian people. Temulawak rhizome extract is known to have a variety of chemical contents with active compounds in the form of essential oils xanthorrhizol and curcumin which can affect the rate of bacterial growth.Methods: This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of temulawak rhizome extract on the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria in vitro. The method used in this study is the true experimental post test only control group design. Samples were divided into four treatment concentrations such as the extract concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of temulawak rhizome which was tested by agar diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer).Result: The results of the analyze of variant (ANOVA) test showed a significant difference (p = 0,000). The temulawak extract could inhibit bacterial growth with a medium inhibitory response (5-10 mm). Temulawak rhizome extract showed the greatest inhibition at 100% concentration with an average inhibition zone diameter of 9.20 mm.Conclusion : The extract of temulawak rhizome has antibacterial activity. The higher concentration of temulawak rhizome extract (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb), the greater ability to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia is an archipelagic country and one of the tropical countries that get sun exposure all the time. Sun exposure can have beneficial and detrimental effects in life. Exposure to radiation can cause acute effects in the form of erythema through the inflammatory process. Antioxidants are substances that can protect the body from damage caused by ROS. Natural antioxidants can be found in vegetables and fruits, one of which comes from lemon extract (Citrus limon L.). Lemon extract is known to have various chemical contents with active compounds in the form of flavonoids and phenols which can act as antioxidants. The aim of this research was to determine the protective effect that can be produced by lemons on UVB exposure in the skin of male wistar rats.Methods: This research uses the true experimental post test only control group design method. Samples were divided into three treatment concentrations, namely ethanol extract of lemon 5%, 10%, and 20%.Result: After testing for normality, the significance value was obtained (p <0.05). Based on the results of the normality and homogeneity test, the results of the data distribution are not normal and the homogeneous tests of the hypotheses used are the Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test. Kruskal-Wallis non-parametric test results showed a significant difference with the significance value (p = 0.001). The best degree of erythema score was found in the cream of 10% ethanol extract of lemon with an average of 0.8 ± 0.84.Conclusion : The ethanol extract of lemon (Citrus limon L.) cream in a certain dosage has a significant effect on reducing the erythema degree score in the back skin of male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) after exposure to UVB rays.

Abstract

Background: Mechanical low back pain is pain that resulting from poor posture which cause decreased disability and limitation of lumbar range of motion. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to prove mulligan bent leg raise more effective to increase lumbosacral range of motion and decreased disability than slump stretching among tile craftsman with Mechanical low back pain in Darmasaba village. Methods: This research was an experimental study with pre and post test control group design. Sample of this study is tile craftsman with mechanical low back pain with 20 samples aged 30-55. Samples were divided into two groups, which the first group (n = 10) was given Mulligan bent leg raise, while the second group was given slump stretching. Do exercise 3 times a week for 4 weeks. Lumbar range of motion was measured with modified-modified schober test while level of disability was measured with modified oswestry disability index. Result: Paired Sample T-test in Group 1 and Group 2 obtained p=0,000 that showed in each Group 1 and Group 2 there is significant difference. Independent Samples Test of Group 1 and Group 2 showed the result p=0,000 which mean that there is significant difference in increased lumbar range of motion and decreased disability. Conclusion: Mulligan bent leg raise more effective to increase lumbosacral range of motion and decreased disability than slump stretching to tile craftsman with mechanical low back pain in Darmasaba village.

Abstract

The teaching of basic movements in badminton are now rather directed to the way of walk orfootwork. This research is aiming to learn about the influence of ?footwork? training to theimprovement of leg muscles and agility. This experimental research is designed to use therandomized pretest posttest control group design. The research is based on 42 malebadminton students bimpres of the university ?UNDIKSHA?, split into 2 groups. Bothgroups were given different training methods, exercising 3 times a week for 6 weeks altogether. Group 1 was given the ?footwork? exercise 10 repetitions 2 sets and group twowas given the ?footwork? exercise 5 repetitions 4 sets. The leg muscle strength was measuredwith a leg dynamometer and the agility with the zigzag run test. The result of the intergroupt-paired test before and after the training shows group 1 and group 2 (p&lt;0.05). For group 1,the leg muscle strength (kg) and agility (second) was in the average 114.19±33.13 &amp;7.78±0.34 and after the training 183.19±33.56 &amp; 7.28±0.28 with a difference of 69 &amp; 0.50and with an increase 60% and 7%. On the other hand, for group 2 the leg muscle strengthand agility before the training was in the average 113.05±31.30 &amp; 7.74±0.38 and after thetraining 141.10±34.91 &amp; 7.59±0.31 with a difference 28.05 &amp; 0.15 and with an increase of25% and 2%. The increase of the leg muscle strength and agility between both the groupsbefore and after the training was tested with the t-independent test with a significant score of? =0.05. The average leg muscle strength and agility for both the groups before the trainingwas p = 0.90 &amp; 0.78 (p&gt;0.05) and after the training p = 0.00 &amp; 0.00 (p&lt;0.05). The conclusionis training badminton footwork 10 repetition 2 sets better than 5 repetition 4 sets for theimprovement of leg muscle strength and agility.

Abstract

Background: Badminton is a game of small ball that requires a good cardiovascular endurance especially on single game. Ones training to improve cardiovascular endurance (VO2max) are high intensity interval training (HIIT), HIIT is able to overcome the problem of the lack of time if the athlete is given a cardio workout because basically the method of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) does not take a long time in one training session. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of the High Intensity Interval Training methods to increase VO2max and Speed Movement. Method: This study is experimental research with the design of randomized pretest-posttest control group design, which is held in GOR Yowana Mandala Tembawu in April to May 2016. The sample was male student at SMP PGRI 2 Denpasar, who are Badminton extracurricular participants amounting to 24 students, in which divided into two groups. Both groups were given different training for 6 weeks with a frequency of exercise four times a week. Group 1 was given training jogging for 15 minutes and the group 2 was given HIIT training for 15 minutes. VO2max measured with Multistage Fitness Test (MFT) and the velocity will be measured by the 50 meter sprint tests. Result: The results showed the average test results in Group 1 before and after training VO2max values obtained respectively 34.13 ml/kg/min and 34.84 ml/kg/min and Speed Motion respectively 8.40 and 8.26 seconds seconds, while in Group 2 VO2max values obtained respectively 33.71 ml/kg/min and 40.12 ml/kg/min, while for each Motion Speed obtained 8.40 seconds and 7.41 seconds. Test results of different test with T-Independent inter group and intra-group T-Paired before and after training, Group 1 and Group 2 result p = 0.00 this indicates that p is less than 0.05 means that each training is different, significant and increasing. Conclusion: It can be concluded that High Intensity Interval Training Methods for 15 minutes improves VO2max and Speed Movement. HIIT training suggested a more intensified in the process of badminton training. Suggestions: Suggestions for further research in order to monitor physical activity, nutrition and sleep patterns of samples which will also affect the results.

Abstract

Oxidative stress as consequence of intense physical exercises cause tissue lesions. The objective of this study was to identify the comparable antioxidant effect of water extract and syrup of Balinese purple sweet potato to the liver tissue in mice after maximal exercise, through the quantification of blood and liver malondialdehyde (MDA), and the histologic feature of liver tissue. Subjects of this study were 60 adult male Swiss mice divided into 6 groups with control group post-test only design. Blood and liver were collected after exercise protocol of exhausting swimming in ten mice without water extract, ten mice with water extract and ten mice with syrup of Balinese purple sweet potato. The MDA was quantification with TBARS method. Samples were also collected from control group of ten mice without water extract, ten mice with water extract and ten mice with syrup of Balinese purple sweet potato as sedentary mice. The results show a significant increase of MDA in the blood and liver, after swimming with and without water extract or syrup of Balinese purple sweet potato respectively (p&lt;0,05). The increase of MDA was slightly significant in the group with water extract or syrup of Balinese purple sweet potato (p&lt;0,05). The increase of liver cell necrosis was slightly significant in the group with water extract of Balinese purple sweet potato (p&lt;0,05). From this finding it can be concluded that water extract or syrup of Balinese purple sweet potato has antioxidant effect in exhausting exercise in mice. Water extract of Balinese purple sweet potato has protective effect to the liver cell in exhausting exercise in mice

Abstract

VO2 max is very important in everyday life, so as to facilitate any physicalactivity, specially for athletes in order to achieve maximum performance. In aneffort to increase VO2 max training should be carried out regularly, measured andplanned. This study aims to determine the increase in VO2 max through circuittraining run and run continuously. The sample is taekwondoin son Manggarai-NTTwith an average age of 15 years. This study is an experimental study with the studydesign used was Randomized Pre and Post Test Group desigen. With a totalsample of 7 people in each group. Samples were randomly selected. Treatmentgroup 1 (KP1) given training run circuit 2 x 10 minute and Treatment Group 2(KP2) are given continuous training run 2 x 10 minute. Training carried out for 6weeks with a frequency of four times a week starting at 17:00 to 18:00 pm locatedat Frans Sales Lega Airport Manggarai-NTT. The analysis showed an increase inVO2 max was significantly (p &lt;0.05) against both groups fled. In both groups thecircuit run by Pulse Oxymeter and Norma Cooper an increase in VO2 max with p&lt;0.05, as well as a continuous run either by Pulse Oxymeter and Norma Cooperwith an increase in VO2 max value of p &lt;0.05. The results of this analysis meansthat either the training or circuit training run run continuously to improve VO2max. Based on a comparison of test data by an independent test after training inboth groups either by Pulse Oxymeter and Norma Cooper in get p values &gt; 0.05, orthere is no significant difference. Based on these results it can be concluded thatthe run circuit training and continuous training run together can increase VO2 maxand there was no significant difference. The results of this study are expected toincrease the knowledge of coaches, teachers and taekwondoin to perform trainingon a regular basis and are also expected to do similar research that examines VO2max with different training.
