Abstract

Tabat barito (Ficus deltoidea Jack.) is vastly used to induce sexual aroused (aphrodisiacs) and effect on female reproductive organ. The aim of this research was performed to examine the effects of bark tabat barito infuse on reproductive capacities female mice. Fifteen of female mice were devided randomly into 5 groups, respectively. The treatment dosages were control, placebo, 50%, 75% and 100%. Infuse and aquades administrated orally 0.5 ml/hari for 5 estrouse cycles. Female mice were mated (1:3). At the eighteen days of gestation, female mice were sacrificed and observed, covered the weight of mice, uterus, liver; the total number of fetus, their weight and length body. The statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA and DMRT test. The result of this study indicated that infuse of bark tabat barito (Ficus deltoidea Jack) increasing the reproductive capacities but no significant. The weight of mice, uterus, liver between control and treatment no different (P> 0.05) but for total number of fetus in control 8.00 + 1.00, whereas dosages 50%, 75% and 100% were 8.67 + 0.58, 11.67 + 1.16 and 10.00 + 1.00, respectively. In total number of fetus different in 70% dosage to others, and total number of fetus in 100% dosage are significant different with control and 70% dosage.Key words: Tabat barito, aphrodisiacs, progesterone, reproductive capacities.

Abstract

Skin secretions and venom from many species of amphibi (frogs and toads) and reptil (group of herpetofauna) from different famillies contain a wide range of unique physiological compounds with biological activity such as peptide, protein, non-protein, and enzyme. They are potent for drug development. The compounds, known as mode of action have practical application as pharmaceutical agents, diagnostic reagents or preparative tools. Peptides with potential anticancer, fibrinolityc, antibacterial, antifungal, antidiabetic activity play important roles in human health. This review introduces roles of herpetofauna for drugs development, potential therapeutic values and their application in human health and disease.Key words: Herpetofauna, skin secretion, venom, drugs development, health.

Abstract

Dianella nemorosa Lam. was known containing alkaloids, terpenoid, phenolic compouds and tanin. Antiproliferative effect of D. nemorosa leaves methanol exctract, which demonstrated to have an in vitro cytotoxic effect on cancer cell line. The aim of research was examined the effect antiproliferative methanol extract of D. nemorosa leaves against MKN45 (gastric cancer) cell line. Leaves powder extracted using methanol. Antiproliferative effect was determined by Cell Proliferation Reagents WST-1 ((2-(4-iodophenyl)-3-(4-nitro-phenyl)-5-(2,4-disulfophenyl)-2H-tetrazolium monosodium salt). Test for 1h, 2h, and 4h after incubated for 72h was done. The result of this research showed that methanol exctract from D. nemorosa possessed remarkable no had antiproliferative activity against MKN45 cell line. The result indicated methanol extract of D. nemorosa leaves selective inhibitory effect or antiproliferative against cell line.Key words: Dianella nemorosa, Antiproliferative, MKN 45, and WST-1

Abstract

Dengue is the most important emerging tropical viral disease of humans in the world today. Aedes aegypti is a major mosquito vector responsible for transmitting many viral diseases and this mosquito that spreads major health problems like dengue fever. The resistance of Ae. aegypti to insecticides is already widespread and represents a serious problem for programmes aimed at the control and prevention of dengue in tropical countries. The search for compounds extracted from medicinal plant preparations as alternatives insecticide for mosquito control is in immediate need. Alternative approach for control Ae. aegypti dan virus dengue using the medicinal plant will be discussed in this paper.Key words: Medicinal plant, Aedes aegypti, dengue fever, dengue haemorragi fever, dengue shock syndrome.
