Abstract

The purpose of this study is to improve science processing skills of students of SMPN 8 Banda Aceh in the concept of pollution and environmental degradation by using project-based learning. An experimental method with pretest-posttest control group design was used in this study. The population was all students of class VII SMPN 8 Banda Aceh which consisted of 5 classes with total number was 130 students. The samples were selected by using simple random sampling technique. There were 44 students from VII-1 acted as control group and class VII-2 acted as experimental group. The data were gathered by using pre-test and post-test. The research instruments used were essay questions to measure science processing skills, student???s work sheet, and work assessment???s rubrics based on science processing skills. The data then analyzed by calculating the post-test and pre-test gain and t-test to compare between the experimental class and control class. They were analyzed by using independent sample t-test. The results showed that there were improvement in the average of science processing skills of students in project-based learning???s class for about 51.86 (high) and conventional learning class for about 38.02 (medium). T-test results obtained as follows: tvalue was 2.680 and ttable was 2.021, so tvalue>ttable. The conclusion was the implementation of project-based learning in the concept of pollution and environmental degradation improved the science processing skills of student of SMPN 8 Banda Aceh.

Abstract

Fruit Football is a type of plant that is widely available in Aceh and is not utilized by the community. This research will be studied in experiments of fruit fooball as biofuel in diesel engines. Diesel engines are used in this test is a single cylinder four stroke engine water-cooled Yanmar brand, type TS 50 with specs: Maximum Power 5 HP, maximum rotation 2400 rpm, maximum torque 2.29 kg.m at 1600 rpm and compression ratio 17.9: 1. Performance testing is done with a diesel engine intended to determine the amount of power generated, the level of fuel consumption, specific fuel consumption and thermal efficiency. Testing is done with two variations of biodiesel fuel that B-10 and B-20 as well as diesel fuel for comparison. The results obtained from this study is that the power generated from diesel fuel is greater than the other two fuels, while more efficient fuel consumption B-20 followed by B-10 and diesel fuel. Specific fuel consumption results are varied while the higher thermal efficiencies generated by the B-20 of the B-10 and diesel fuel at high speed.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the impact of lecture model of Genetics towards students’ metacognition skills based on class category, basic academic skill, and types of subjects. This study was conducted at FMIPA Biology department of UM involving students in education class and non-education class for 2 semester. The instruments used in the research were observation sheets of Genetics lecture, metacognition awareness inventory (MAI), and documents of observation sheet. Anakova with Least Significant Difference (LSD) was used to analyse the data. The result showed that the steps in the lecture model of Genetics comprising instucting reading assessment related to lecture material, composing summary of reading material, setting questions and the answers, and having presentation and discussion. Project-based practical work and classic practical work were used in practical work assessment. Evaluation tools was used based on average score of paper and pencil test and alternative assessment. Students’ metacognition skills were not influenced by class factor (education and non-education, basic academic skill [high or low], and types of Genetics subjects [Genetics I and Genetics II).

Abstract

Combustion of coal and co-combustion of their co-fuel contribute to gas emissions. Among the gas emissions are SOx, NOx, CO and CO2. Introduction of calcium based adsorbent is addressed to absorb SO2 that release to the atmosphere during the combustion process. Objective of the research is at first to observe the physical characteristics of biobriquettes as a function of briquette compositions (coal to palm kernel shell ratios) and Ca/S ratios (Ca in adsorbent and S in briquette) using a natural adsorbent (shellfish waste). The second objective is to investigate desulfurization characteristics as a function of Ca/S ratios and desulfurization temperatures at coal to palm kernel shell ratio of 90:10 (wt %). Ratios of coal to palm kernel shell in this study are 90:10, 80:20, 70:30, 60:40 and 50:50; and Ca/S ratios are 1:1, 1.25:1, 1.5:1, 1.75:1 and 2:1. Binding agent used is the mixture of Jatropha curcas seeds and starch as much as 10% (wt). It was found that introducing the palm kernel shell and adsorbents in the coal briquette affect the water resistant and compressive strength. The highest water resistance and compressive strength were 5,165 second and 34 kg/cm2, respectively. The lowest SO2 level found in this study was 1 ppm for all Ca/S ratios, except for 1:1.

Abstract

Heating furnace which has been used by farmers to boil salt feed water is a traditional wood-fired furnance that is very simple and very inefficient. Researchers have made several modifications to the furnace unit multi-pot configuration that can utilize waste heat in order to improve the efficiency of the furnace. Potential waste heat of exhaust gas can be used as preheater. The methodology used to asses the performance on the furnace in water boiling test method operating condition of the cold start, hot start, and simmer. The data obtained then analyzed, the result showed that the burning rate and fire power that occurred during the cooking procces of the operation conditions of the cold start, hot start, and simmer increase, but the thermal efficiency decrease. This indicates that increasing of combustion efficiency has not been able to be utilized to the maximum heat. Value of the thermal efficiency of the furnace is affected by the value of useful energy to heat the water in the pot and the amount of energy entry/energy of combustion.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TGT terhadap penguasaan konsep sistem pencernaan manusia di SMA Negeri I Sigli. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen dengan rancangan Pretest-postest Control Group Design. Populasi penelitian adalah  seluruh siswa kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri I Sigli semester dua sebanyak 8 kelas dengan jumlah siswa 240 orang, sedangkan sampel dalam penelitian ini diambil secara acak atau random sampling sebanyak 60 siswa yang terdiri dari 30 siswa kelas XI-IPA5 sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 30 orang siswa kelas XI-IPA6 sebagai kelas kontrol. Pembelajaran kelas eksperimen diajarkan dengan menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TGT berbasis praktikum, sedangkan kelas kontrol diajarkan dengan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TGT tanpa praktikum. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan uji t dengan bantuan program SPSS 16.0 for windows. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi perbedaan yang signifikan penguasaan konsep terhadap siswa yang diajarkan melalui model pembelajaran TGT berbasis praktikum dengan siswa yang diajarkan dengan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TGT tanpa praktikum, dengan perbedaan keduanya pada taraf P 0,05, t hitung = 7,570 t tabel = 2,000  untuk penguasaan konsep. Dengan demikian, terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe TGT berbasis praktikum terhadap penguasaan konsep siswa pada konsep sistem pencernaan manusia.

Abstract

AbstractLocal culture content approach in education has long been discussed and there are still some arguments on its position in education. Regardless its issues, as a teacher I believed that local culture has significant position in education. Therefore, in my teaching, I always attach culture value in it as a shape of my awareness toward it. This study based on a personal experience in teaching writing for beginner students at English department of Muhammadiyah University of Parepare. The study explores the interference of local culture knowledge in affecting students’ idea forming in class of writing. The participant of the study was the 2nd semester students; class A and B in 2012/2013. The study design applied was case study. It revealed in the study that the use of local culture based material in writing can ease students in mapping their writing ideas as well as reinforcing their awareness toward their local culture. Students enjoyed writing as the material given is familiar to them while at the same time they can strengthen their local culture awareness. Also reinforcing local culture knowledge in teaching English can help widen student’s knowledge on writing.AbstrakPenguatan Budaya Lokal dalam Pengajaran Writing; Suatu Studi Kasus di Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare. Pendekatan konten budaya lokal dalam pendidikan lama telah dibahas dan masih ada beberapa argumen pada posisi dalam pendidikan. Terlepas dari isu-isu yang, sebagai guru, saya percaya bahwa budaya lokal memiliki posisi penting di bidang pendidikan. Oleh karena itu, dalam mengajar saya, saya selalu melampirkan nilai budaya di dalamnya sebagai bentuk kesadaran saya ke arah itu. Studi ini didasarkan pada pengalaman pribadi dalam mengajar menulis untuk pemula siswa di Departemen bahasa Inggris dari Universitas Muhammadiyah kota Pare. Studi mengeksplorasi gangguan pengetahuan budaya lokal dalam mempengaruhi siswa ide membentuk di kelas menulis. Peserta studi adalah mahasiswa semester 2; kelas A dan B di 2012/2013. Desain studi yang diterapkan pada studi kasus. Itu mengungkapkan dalam studi bahwa penggunaan bahan budaya lokal dalam menulis dapat memudahkan siswa dalam pemetaan ide-ide menulis mereka serta memperkuat kesadaran mereka terhadap budaya lokal mereka. Siswa menikmati menulis sebagai materi yang diberikan akrab bagi mereka sementara pada saat yang sama mereka dapat memperkuat kesadaran budaya lokal mereka. Juga memperkuat pengetahuan budaya lokal dalam mengajar bahasa Inggris dapat membantu memperluas pengetahuan siswa menulis.

Abstract

Abstract. The Readability of the Indonesian Textbook Discourse "Ekspresi Diri dan Akademik" Second Edition Using Cloze Test Methode On Grade X SMAN 1 Makassar. This research aimed to describe the readability of discourse in the Indonesian textbook "Ekspresi Diri dan Akademik" Second Edition on grade X SMAN 1 Makassar. The method used in this research is a quantitative survey methods that describe the readability level of the Indonesia textbook "Ekspresi Diri dan Akademik" Second Edition on grade X at SMAN 1 Makassar. The population of this research was all students of grade X at SMAN 1 Makassar. Sampling on this population was selected by using cluster random sampling. The sample in this research there were two classes, X MIA 5 and X IIS 3. Data collection techniques in this research is the cloze test. Data obtained using the formula cloze test. The results showed that out of the eight tested discourse to the students there are six discourse that is at the readability level independent/easy. There is a discourse belonging to the category of reading level instructional/medium. Average readability level was 68% overall discourse in the category reading level independent/easy, indicating that the level of discourse is very high readability. Results like that makes the discourse in the Indonesian Textbooks "Ekspresi Diri dan Akademik" Second Edition on grade X published by the Ministry of Education and Culture is not good enough to be used as teaching materials.

Abstract

This research purpose is to comprehend comparison in application of active learning model the power of two and everyone is teacher here to improve student study results on system of human motion subject in SMP Negeri 17 Banda Aceh. The approach in this research is a quantitative approach. Shape design of experiments in this research is a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The data collection was held on June 9 to August 20, 2016. The sample in this study were students of class VIII-1 and VIII-2 , 29 students total for each class. VIII-1 using The Power Of Two model and VIII-2 using Everyone Is Teacher Here model. The data collection is done by giving the 25 items objective test with four alternative answers. Data collection was performed twice, before using one of the active learning model (pre-test) and after using one of the active learning model (post-test) in both experimental class.Test result of t N-Gain to α 0.05 in both classes obtained tcalculateis 2,46 while ttableis 1,68  which indicate that there are differences in student study result on System Of Human Motion subject that taught using active learning model The Power Of Two and active learning model Everyone Is Teacher Here.The conclusions of this research is that there is a difference of study result between students who are taught by active learning model The Power Of Two and  students who are taught by active learning model Everyone Is Teacher Here on System Of Human Motion subject in class VIII SMP Negeri 17 Banda Aceh.Key Words: The power of two, everyone is teacher here, Study Results

Abstract

Telah dilaksanakan penelitian tentang ???Penerapan pendekatan STM (Sains Teknologi Masyarakat) pada konsep pencemaran lingkungan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar, kemampuan berpikir kritis, dan sikap peduli lingkungan di SMA Negeri 4 Wira Bangsa Meulaboh???. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui perbedaan hasil belajar, kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi pencemaran lingkungan yang dibelajarkan dengan pendekatan STM dan tanpa STM. Metode penelitian ini adalah metode eksperimental semu. Populasi dalam penelitian ini seluruh siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 4 Wira Bangsa Meulaboh, berjumlah 80 siswa yang berasal dari 3 kelas. Sampel pada penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 2 kelas yang ditentukan secara random sampling terdiri dari kelas eksperimen (dengan pendekatan STM) dan kelas kontrol (tanpa pendekatan STM). Instrumen penelitian ini menggunakan tes hasil belajar, tes kemampuan berpikir kritis. Pengujian hipotesis dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji-t Hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh thitung hasil belajar = 8,62, thitung kemampuan berpikir kritis = 11,15, dan thitung Karena harga thitung > ttabel maka Ha diterima dan harga thitung < ttabelmaka Ha ditolak artinya ada perbedaan peningkatan hasil belajar, kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa dengan pembelajaran STM dan tanpa pendekatan STM pada materi pencemaran lingkungan di SMA Negeri 4 Wira Bangsa Meulaboh. Kata Kunci: Pendekatan STM, dan Pencemaran Lingkungan A research entitled, "The application of the STM approach (Science Technology Society) on the concept of environmental pollution to improve learning outcomes, critical thinking skills, and attitudes of environmental care in SMA 4 Wira Bangsa Meulaboh " has been conducted. The purposes of this study were to find out differences in students??? learning outcomes and critical thinking skills on environmental pollution material by using STM approach. This research used quasi-experimental method. The population of this study was all of students class X of SMA Negeri 4 Wira Bangsa Meulaboh. There were 80 students from three classes. The samples were chosen randomly that consisted of two classes namely experimental class and control class. The instruments used were test for learning outcome and test for critical thinking skills. The data then analyzed by using t-test. The results of t-test for learning outcomes was 8.62, meanwhile, t-test of critical thinking skills was 11.15. Since t-count > t-table, thus Ha is accepted. If t-count < t- table then, Ha is rejected. It means there were some differences on students??? learning outcome and critical thinking skills after learning environmental pollution material by using STM approach and without using it.
