Abstract

The objective of this study was to assess compliance to small-quantity lipid-based nutrient supplements (SQ-LNS) and associated factors. The community-based non randomized controlled intervention was conducted among 117 infants aged six months old in Bangkalan district and received a daily 20 g SQ-LNS (n=58) or three pieces biscuit (n=59) for six months. In SQ-LNS group, the compliance was 71.7%, 62.7%, 59.3% over one, three, and six-month intervention. The proportion of infant with compliance as recommended (7 sachets SQ-LNS per week) was 68.6%, 34.3%, 18.6%. In Biscuit group, the proportion was 96.6%, 92.8%, 91.1% and compliance as recommended (21 pieces per week) was 94.9%, 93.2%, 91.5%. Logistic regression analysis showed that low mother education (OR=3.67; 95%CI:1.14-11.74), food secure household (OR=3.87; 95%CI:1.26-11.88), high household dietary diversity (OR=3.78; 95%CI:1.20-11.89), and low social economy status (OR=3.81; 95%CI:1.16-12.56) were significantly associated with compliance of SQ-LNS as recommended. The mean of day and proportion of recommended daily serving consumed were 3.3 days and 98.8%, in SQ-LNS group; while in Biscuit group were 3.5 days and 87.2%. Mother reported that side effect of consuming SQ-LNS and biscuit were children felt bored (60.3%, 13.6%), vomiting (43.1%, 18.6%), suffering diarrhea (15.5%, 1.7%), respectively. The reason of irregular provision of SQ-LNS and biscuit were vomiting at the early consumption period response, boring, and did not like the smell/taste of SQ-LNS or biscuit. Mother perceived that the benefit of SQ-LNS and biscuit was increase body immunity, weight gain, appetite, and child become more active.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study was aimed to analyze levels of knowledge, attitude, and practice on nutrition related to iodine, and iodine source consumption pattern, and household’s usage of iodized salt among mothers in mountainous area of Cianjur District. Design of this study was a cross-sectional, conducted during May-July 2012 at three sub-districts of Cianjur which were categorized as IDD (Iodine Deficiency Disorders) endemic areas. The subjects were 153 household mothers, living in the study area. The data were collected by interview using pre-tested questionnaires. Data on iodine content of salt was analyzed at Laboratory of Balai GAKI, Magelang. The result shows that subjects were mostly categorized as poor (73.2%), namely their income/cap/month was lower than poverty line of rural West Java. Nutritional knowledge related to iodine of subjects was categorized as moderate (score 64.2). Nutritional attitude related to iodine of subjects indicated the negative attitude (score <75), and the nutritional practice was categorized as poor (score 58.3). Type of iodine food source which frequently consumed by households were salted fish and egg. The salt consumed by households was wholely iodized salt, but only 11.1% of them complied with the iodized salt standard (>30 ppm).Keywords: attitude, iodine, knowledge, practiceABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis tingkat pengetahuan, sikap, dan praktek gizi ibu terkait iodium, serta pola konsumsi pangan sumber iodium dan penggunaan garam beriodium pada ibu rumahtangga di wilayah pegunungan Cianjur. Desain penelitian ini merupakan cross sectional, dilakukan pada bulan Mei-Juli 2012 di tiga kecamatan yang tergolong endemik GAKI (Gangguan Akibat Kekurangan Iodium) di Kabupaten Cianjur. Subjek adalah ibu rumahtangga sebanyak 153 orang. Data dikumpulkan dengan metode wawancara menggunakan kuesioner yang telah diujicobakan sebelumnya. Data kandungan iodium pada garam diperoleh berdasarkan analisis di laboratorium Balai GAKI, Magelang. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan subjek umumnya tergolong miskin (73,2%) karena pendapatan/kapita/bulan lebih rendah dari Garis Kemiskinan Jawa Barat untuk wilayah perdesaan. Pengetahuan gizi ibu terkait iodium tergolong sedang (skor 64,2). Sikap gizi ibu terkait iodium menunjukkan sikap yang negatif (skor <75) dan praktek gizi ibu terkait iodium tergolong rendah (skor 58,3). Jenis pangan sumber iodium yang sering dikonsumsi subjek adalah ikan asin dan telur. Garam yang dikonsumsi subjek semuanya sudah mengandung iodium, tetapi hanya 11,1% yang mengandung iodium dalam jumlah mencukupi (>30 ppm).Kata kunci: iodium, pengetahuan, praktek, sikap

Abstract

The objective of this study was to determine the relationship of calcium intake, nutritional status, and blood pressure to joint pain among elderly in nursing homes in Bandung. The study design was cross-sectional study. Subjects were consisted of 12 elderly men and 69 elderly women from four nursing homes in Bandung. Most subjects had joint pain (59.3%), hypertension (30.9%), and were overweight (39.5%). There was no significant relationship between frequency of consumption of calcium food sources and nutritional status, blood pressure, joint pain, and the level of joint pain (p>0.05). There was no significant relationship between joint pain and the level of joint pain with blood pressure and nutritional status.

Abstract

The study aims were to (1) assess the nutritional status, adequacy level, and physical fitness of the nonpregnant reproductive female workers, and (2) analyze the effect of micronutrients supplementation on their iron status and physical fitness. This research employed experimental design of double blind, completely randomized design by involving 338 households of female workers. The experimental unit consists of 39 female workers whose hemoglobin level were 80-125 g/L. However, five of them were drop out due to pregnancy or sickness. The treatments applied in the study were three capsules containing: (1) iron and folic acid (BF), (2) multi-vitamin and mineral (MVM), which contains of 15 different vitamins and minerals, and (3) placebo (P). The body mass index of the female workers were thin 12 percent, normal 70 percent and overweight 18 percent. Most of their nutritional intake of vitamin C, calcium and iron were deficient but they had a good to superior of physical fitness. Abstract

The objectives of this research were to: (1) analyze animal food supply in West Lampung District; (2) analyze ideal animal food target and; (3) analyze animal food self sufficiency. This research was conducted by using retrospective and prospective design. The primary data was collected by conducting interview and giving questionnaire to the chosen sample. The secondary data was processed by using Food Balance Sheet (FBS) software to measure animal food supply including the number and the energy and protein content. Food self sufficiency was analyzed by production-supply and import-supply ratio. The average animal food supply in 2005, 2006, and 2007 is 21 g/capita/day or 7.66 kg/capita/year, still lower than ideal supply 60 g/capita/day or 21.90 kg/capita/year. Protein supply of animal food is 2.86 g/capita/day, lower than ideal supply 4.8 g/capita/day.

Abstract

ABSTRACT. Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) prevalence ofpregnant women is 16% and this would have consequence of risk during delivery and  nutritional status of the children. The aims ofthis study was to measure the effect ofiodized oil and beta carotene on the nutritional, iodine and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) status of pregnant women and to determine nutrition, iodine and cyanide intakes from food consumed by pregnant women. Research design ofthe study was quasi experiment. Pregnant women on the first trimester were chosen and divided into three groups. The first group was given iodized oil at 200mg iodine, the second group was treated with iodized oil at 30mg iodine every month for 6 months, and the third group was given as group 2 plus beta-carotene at 30mg each month for six months. Data collected were nutrients, iodine, and cyanide intake from food consumed and the parameter measured were serum TSH, urine iodine excretion (UIE), body weight and upper arm circumference. Chi Square, ANOVA and Kruskall Wallis were applied for statistical analysis. Iodine consumed by pregnant women was closed to the recommended daily allowance (RDA). iodized oil supplement could increase the UIE for 2 times at trimester 3 ofthe pregnancy. Furthermore, the treatment could redure the TSH value during pregnancy. The supplement could supply iodine during pregnancy. Keywords: iodine, hipothyroid, beta caroten, nutritional status

Abstract

Temulawak (Curcuma xanthorhiza Roxb) adalah salah satu tumbuhan obat keluarga Zingi beraceae yang banyak tumbuh dan digunakan sebagai bahan baku obat tradisional di Indonesia. Temulawak diketahui memiliki banyak manfaat salah satunya  potensi sebagaiantioksidan. Komponen aktif yang bertanggung jawab sebagai antioksidan dalam rimpang temulawak adalah kurkumin. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis potensi temulawak sebagai antioksidan. Bahan baku yang digunakan adalah rimpang temulawak diperoleh dari petani temulawak di Kabupaten Purworejo, Jawa Tengah. Metode ekstrasi menggunakan ekstraksicair-cair yang dikembangkan PT Javaplant. Ekstrak temulawak dianalisis kandungan proksimat.Pengujian antioksidan dilakukan dengan metode DPPH dan Analisis Kadar kurkuminoid Temulawak Menggunakan HPLC. Data yang diperoleh diolah dan dianalisis denganmenggunakan program SPSS. Data disajikan dalam bentuk diskriptif.  Pada ekstrak temulawak ditemukan kadar kurkumin sebesar 27,19% dengan rendemen sebesar 1,02%. Aktivitasantioksidan ekstrak temulawak dengan IC sebesar 87,01 ppm. Ekstrak temulawak memiliki aktivitas antioksidan tergolong aktif sehingga  berpotensi  sebagai antioksidan alami yang baik. Kata kunci : Kadar Kurkumin, Antivitas antioksidan,Temulawak 50

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi masyarakat terhadap pelayanan program gizi serta menganalisis partisipasinya dalam program posyandu. Disain penelitian ini menggunakan cross-sectional dengan sampel rumah tangga yang memiliki anak balita. Sampel yang diambil sebanyak 300. Pemilihan sampel dilakukan secara acak berlapis (stratified random sampling). Penelitian ini dilakukan di dua kecamatan di Kabupaten Cianjur yang dilakukan pada tahun 2006-2007. Data yang dikumpulkan meliputi jenis pe­layanan gizi, persepsi terhadap program gizi dan partisipasi dalam program gizi. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara. Data ha­sil wawancara dientri menggunakan software excel. Data dianalisis dengan SAS (Statistical Analysis System). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa para ibu berpendapat bahwa program PMT dan penyuluhan gizi harus lebih diper­baiki. Jumlah dan keterampilan kader cukup memadai, namun kahadiran bidan di posyandu kurang mencukupi. Program imunisasi bagi balita diikuti dengan baik oleh para ibu balita. Terkait pelayanan di puskesmas, sebagian besar ibu mengeluhkan waktu antri yang lama dan frekuensi kehadiran dokter yang kurang. Partisipasi balita dalam mengun­jungi posyandu relatif baik (92.4%). Lebih dari 90% balita, baik yang sering maupun jarang mengunjungi posyandu telah menerima kapsul vitamin A. Pelayanan posyandu yang sangat dirasakan oleh masyarakat adalah penimbangan balita dan imunisasi. Keywords : persepsi, partisipasi, program gizi

Abstract

The objectives of this research were to analyze health, nutritional status of children under five years and its influential factors. This research was carried out in two sub-districts of Bogor: Sub-District of Ciomas and Sub-District of Darmaga. As many as 16 posyandu nutrition program were obtained. A total number of 240 mothers had been divided into control and intervention groups. Baseline data were collected during the pre-study, while endline data were collected after conducting intervention (experiment). The experiment had been conducted for five months in the form of providing nutrition education once in two weeks and implementing home gardening. The data analysis included estimation of mean, standard deviation, minimum value, maximum value and proportion. Based on the General Linear Model (GLM) analysis, it was found that intervention had significant impact on the nutritional status (WAZ) of children under five years. Intervention did not have significant effects on the nutritional status according to HAZ and WHZ. Key words: .

Abstract

The aim this study was to analyze the determinant of positive deviance nutritional status of under five year old children in poor areas with low and high prevalence of undernutrition. Cross sectional study was conducted in the study using secondary data analysis taken from Basic Health Research 2007 in four provinces with determination samples criterias of high poverty levels according BPS 2009 (>14.15%) and low and high prevalence of undernutrition (+18.4%) which were analyzed through quadrants. The number of samples was 3.494 under five year old children from poor families. The significancy relations among variables were measured using Pearson's correlation and path analysis to analyze the determinants. The results, the determinant of positive deviance were income through mother's characteristics, health upbringing, and health status, the four provinces had the same determinants pathway (β=0.0451), with mother's characteristics (p<0.05) and health upbringing (p<0.05) as the significants variables. The conclusion was that mother with better characteristics in families who were able to manage income better, tended to practice better health upbringing which increase children's nutritional status. These factors determine the poor families living in the poor areas could have well nourished under five year old children rather than other families in the same economic condition.
