Abstract

The aims of this research is to study various vegetation associations on Mount Salak.  Sampling was done by using systematic sampling with random start. Cluster analysis was used to determine the vegetation association.  The relationship between abiotic factors and vegetation association was analyzed using Chi-Square statistic.  There are 5 vegetation associations at alliance 1, 6 associations at alliance 2, and 7 associations at alliance 3.  Calcium, phosphorus content of soil, soil?s texture and slope direction are the abiotic factors that affected the association at alliance 1.  Calcium and phosphorus content of soil, and minimum altitude of plot are abiotic factors that affected the association at alliance 2.  Phosphorus content of soil and minimum altitude plot are the abiotic factors that affected the association at alliance 3.   Key words: Mount Salak, vegetation association, cluster analysis, chi-square statistic

Abstract

The objective of this research was to obtain information on species composition and structure of lowland tropical rain forest in Sentarum lake National Park, West Kalimantan. The research was carried out from 26 to 31 December 2003 and from 20 January to 5 February 2004 on the foot slope of Semujan Hill in Sentarum lake National Park. To carry out the research, 10 sample units {SU'S) with size of 10 m x 10 m each, were placed, based on systematic sampling with random start scheme, with distance of 10 m between each SU. On each SU, trees with diameter~ 2 em were identified and diameter {DBH) and height were recorded. Eighty four {84) tree species were found in a 0.1 ha SU, consisting of 32 families, dominated by 16 species of Dipterocarpaceae, followed by 9 species of Guttiferae and 5 species of Melastomataceae. Tree density decreased exponentially with increasing the diameter of trees.

Abstract

Implementation of Collaborative Forest Management (CFM) at 25 villages in the Mount Ciremai, Kuningan Regency, West Java Province has became a problem because of specifying as national park.  The objectives of this research were  to analyze policy of CFM, examining implementation and it?s impact in Mount Ciremai National Park,  and  to  formulate  policy strategy of CFM in Mount Ciremai National Park.  Methods of this research were policy analysis, descriptive analysis, AHP,  and SWOT.  Implementation of the CFM policy in  Kuningan Regency  consisted of: socialization, forming of CFM Forum, mapping, inventory, planning of village, NKB, NPK, and village regulation.  Economic impact from the policy of CFM in Kuningan Regency  contributed the income to about 7,71% from the nominal of Rp 3.336.573,- per capita per year and poverty rate after CFM in general was relatively  low.  This research  showed  that CFM policy strategies  that should be  applied in Mount Ciremai National Park were  socialization of economic value of the national park,  regulation?s intervention, developing the utilization of national park,  and empowerment of the community economic.

Abstract

Peristiwa gempa bumi dan tsunami yang melanda Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) dan Pulau Nias Sumatera Utara pada bulan Desember 2004 telah mengakibatkan rusaknya sebagian besar hutan mangrove dan hutan pantai di kedua wilayah tersebut. Berhubung kedua tipe hutan tersebut sangat penting untuk menopang kelangsungan hidup penduduk pantai, maka penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendapatkan arahan rehabilitasi hutan mangrove dan pantai yang rusak akibat tsunami di NAD dan Pulau Nias. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa wilayah pantai yang tanahnya berupa tanah mineral yang bukan lumpur dengan salinitas yang tinggi (di atas 10 0/00) seyogyanya ditanami oleh jenis mangrove eklusif (Rhizophora stylosa, R. apiculata, Sonneratia alba, Ceriops tagal dan Aegeciros floridum) dan mangrove asosiat (Osbornea octodonta dan Scyphiphora sp.), tanah bukan lumpur dengan salinitas rendah oleh berbagai jenis pohon hutan pantai (Casuarina equisetifolia, dan lain-lain), tanah lumpur bersalinitas tinggi oleh Avicenia spp. dan R. Mucronata; dan tanah gambut seyogyanya ditanami oleh Bruguiera gymnorrizha. Adapun lebar  jalur hijau vegetasi yang disarankan adalah minimal 225 m untuk wilayah NAD dan 211 m untuk wilayah pulau Nias. Untuk merealisasikan kegiatan rehabilitasi vegetasi pantai yang bersifat multitahun di NAD dan Nias maka kegiatan rehabilitasi tersebut harus ditempatkan dalam rangka pembangunan daerah.

Abstract

Indonesia merupakan negara kepuluauan seluas sekitar 9 juta km2 yang terletak diantara dua samudra dan dua benua dengan jumlah pulau sekitar 17.500 buah yang panjang garis pantainya sekitar 95.181 km. Kondisi geografis tersebut menyebabkan negara Indonesia menjadi suatu negara megabiodiversitas walaupun luasnya hanya sekitar 1,3% dari luas bumi. Dalam dunia tumbuhan, flora di wilayah Indonesia termasuk bagian dari flora dari Malesiana yang diperkirakan memiliki sekitar 25% dari spesies tumbuhan berbunga yang ada di dunia yang menempati urutan negara terbesar ketujuh dengan jumlah spesies mencapai 20.000 spesies, 40%-nya merupakan tumbuhan endemik atau asli Indonesia. Negara Indonesia termasuk negara dengan tingkat keterancaman dan kepunahan spesies tumbuhan tertinggi di dunia. Saat ini tercatat sekitar 240 spesies tanaman dinyatakan langka, diantaranya banyak yang merupakan spesies tanaman budidaya. Selain itu, sekitar 36 spesies pohon di Indonesia dinyatakan terancam punah, termasuk kayu ulin di Kalimantan Selatan, sawo kecik di Jawa Timur, Bali Barat, dan Sumbawa, kayu hitam di Sulawesi, dan kayu pandak di Jawa serta ada sekitar 58 spesies tumbuhan yang berstatus dilindungi.Keywords: keanekaragaman hayati flora, megabiodiversitas, tingkat kepunahan, tumbuhan dilindungi, tumbuhan langka

Abstract

Studi ini menerangkan bagaimana algoritme-algoritme indeks separabilitas dan akurasi klasifikasi seyogyanya diterapkan secara benar untuk mendeteksi obyek-obyek yang dikehendaki secara optimal. Studi ini menemukan bahwa akurasi Kappa dan kriteria Separabilitas (Transformed Divergence) harus digunakan secara simultan. Evaluasi dengan hanya menggunakan akurasi Kappa saja atau separabilitas saja akan memberikan hasil yang keliru. Algoritme-algoritme yang diterapkan diujicobakan pada data dijital MOS MESSR (Marine Observation Satellite Multispectral Self-Scanning Radiometer) dan Landsat TM (Thematic Mapper) untuk mendeteksi distribusi vegetasi mangrove. Studi ini memperlihatkan bahwa algoritme-algoritme yang diujicobakan pada MESSR dan TM berhasil mendeteksi distribusi mangrove secara baik, dengan akurasi pengguna (user accuracy) dan akurasi pembuat (producer?s accuracy) yang cukup tinggi berkisar antara 55% dan 100%.

Abstract

Rattan is the most important non-forest timber product utilized by communities adjacent Lore Lindu National Park (LLNP). The establishment community conservation agreement (CCA) in 2001 was unable to prevent rattan depletion. Then, a local institution called community conservation partnership (CCP) has been recently proposed. Therefore, the objective of this study is to explore how to craft a local institution of CCP for sustainable rattan governance in LLNP using Social-Ecological Systems (SES) Framework. The study was conducted in LLNP area and Ngata Toro, a buffer zone village of LLNP. We conducted rattan inventory and collected social data by interview for analyzing CCP development using SES framework. The results showed that CCP is most likely to be successful in implementing due to several reasons. Firstly, the establishment of constitutional-choice rules made clear the nested enterprise. Secondly, the reallocation of CCP location to the traditional zone increase the boundary clarity. Thirdly, transferring rights to the Ngata Toro community will make effective co-management, increase the legitimacy of rattan utilization, decrease potential conflicts among resource unit users and reducing monitoring cost. Finally, deciding the rattan harvesting quota will ensure the rattan ecological and livelihood sustainability. With the clarity of system boundaries and property rights, we argue that CCP institutions will bring many benefits in many ways. Overall, most variables of SES framework can be used to analyses the readiness of CCP institutional arrangement for sustainable rattan management in LLNP.

Abstract

Mangrove forests in Indonesia has been declining and need rehabilitation efforts. The rehabilitation it self needs actual data af the site. Bulaksetra mangrove was destroyed because of tsunami disaster. Based on that condition the purpose of this research was to consider the typology of area and to explore the condition of mangrove vegetation at Bulaksetra, Pangandaran, West Java. Variabel to be measured in this research were stem diameter, tree hight, number of individual, and depth of inundiation. Data colection method was carried on using a combination of between strip method for trees inventory and strip square method for regeneration, totaled 34 unit transects. The depth of inundation performed at 27 sampled points spread at all research areas. Our result obtained showed that, mangrove vegetation at Bulaksetra consists of three classes of crown density: high mangrove density, medium mangrove density, and low mangrove density lead at 3 tipology catagories (A1 : high water inundation <2 cm area; A2: high water inundation 2?5 cm; A3: high water inundation > 5 cm). In this moment Bulaksetra area is covered by 19 mangrove species, in which 8 species are true mangroves. A1 and A3 land tipologyes dominated by Avicennia alba, meanwhile A2 land tipology dominanted by Nypa fruticans.Generally mangrove vegetations in Bulaksetra does not from a zonation but growing mixed in this area.Key words: Bulaksetra, mangrove, typology, water inundation, zonation.

Abstract

The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the influence of soil compaction and water content on root development of 6 month old sengon seedling. The experiment was arranged 3 x 3 factorial experiment within a complete randomized design and 3 replications. The factor number one was soil compaction and factor number two was soil water content. The soil compaction factor consists of 3 levels, which are 1,5 g/cm3 (A1), 1,2 g/cm3 (A2), and 0,9 g/cm3 (A3) respectively, while the soil water content also consists of 3 levels, which are 60,41 % (B1), 49,64% (B2), and 42,86 % (B3) for each level. The parameters were counted which are root number, diameter, root length, biomass, surface area, and root length density. The result was that soil compaction treatment has a significant influence to root number, root length, biomass, surface area, and root length density. On the other hand the soil water content treatment on pF 2,54 until 3,5 and interaction soil compaction and water content have no influence to root number, diameter, root length, biomass, surface area, and root length density. Root number, diameter, length, biomass, surface area and root length density were increased accordingly to the age of the seedling, but the increasing of soil compaction has decreased to the number, length, root length, biomass, surface area and root length density. The secondary root was found more larger than the primary and the tertiary root in term of the root length, surface area and root length density.
