Abstract

Eco-linguistic studies are influenced by one of the other interdisciplinary sciences, namely critical discourse analysis. The combination of these two sciences is called critical eco-linguistic studies. Critical eco-linguistic examines the discourse about the environment and various forms of discourse and their ideology which concerns people and the environment. The environmental discourse with all its manifestations (oral text, written text) is called green discourse. To that end, critical eco-linguistic dictates the linguistic aspects contained in the green discourse. Utilization of lingual units in green discourse will affect the sense and logic of people involved in the discourse, ie the writers and readers or the speakers and the speakers. What is recorded in their cognition, will affect their attitudes and actions to the environment. If green discourse is constructive, then their attitude and actions to the environment are constructive. Conversely, if green discourse is more destructive and exploitative, then their attitudes and actions towards the environment will also be affected towards destruction and exploitation. For this reason, critical eco-linguistic studies in green discourse deserve to be given space as a form of prospective eco-linguistic analysis.

Abstract

This study aims to describe newspaper attitudes towards and views of corruptioncases in Indonesia, manifested in (anti-)corruption editorials. Newspaper attitudes aremanifested through two frames, namely the one criticizing corruption news and theother supporting corruption news. The data were collected through a literature reviewand a recording method. They were analyzed by the correspondence and participatorymethods. The findings are as follows. First, by criticizing corruption news, Koran Tempoin its two editorials indicates a disagreement over corruption news. The disagreement iscaused by several weird facts in the court and the defense for the corruption investigatorwho, quite the contrary, was sent to prison. Second, with a frame of supporting corruptionnews, Kompas, Republika, Koran Tempo, Jawa Pos, and Suara Merdeka have attitudes andviews indicating agreement to support corruption news in newspapers. The supportrefers to efforts to eradicate corruption that can be manifested in the arrest of a suspectin corruption, the court, and the verdict on a suspect in corruption.

Abstract

Masalah penelitian ini adalah (1) bagaimana keefektifan penggunaan model show not tell pada pembelajaran keterampilan menulis teks eksposisi berdasarkan minat peserta didik SMK Kelas X, (2) bagaimana keefektifan penggunaan model mind map pada pembelajaran keterampilan menulis teks eksposisi berdasarkan minat peserta didik SMK kelas X, (3) bagaimana keefektifan interaksi show not tell dan mind map pada pembelajaran keterampilan menulis teks eksposisi berdasarkan minat peserta didik SMK kelas X. Simpulan penelitian ini adalah (1) Show Not tell efektif digunakan dalam membelajarkan menulis teks eksposisi bagi peserta didik yang memiliki minat tinggi. (2) Mind Map efektif digunakan dalam membelajarkan menulis teks eksposisi bagi peserta didik yang memiliki minat rendah. (3) Model Show Not Tell lebih efektif digunakan dalam membelajarkan menulis teks eksposisi bagi peserta didik yang memiliki minat tinggi, sedangkan model Mind Map efektif digunakan dalam membelajarkan teks eksposisi pagi peserta didik yang memiliki minat rendah.Problems of this research are (1) how is the effectiveness of using Show Not Tell model in the learning of writing exposition text based on students interest at the tenth grade of vocational school, (2) how is the effectiveness of using Mind Mapping model in the learning of writing exposition text based on students interest at the tenth grade of vocational school, (3) how is the effectiveness of the interaction in Show Not Tell and Mind Mapping model in the learning of writing exposition text based on students interest at the tenth grade of vocational school. The conclusions of this research are (1) Show Not Tell is more effective to use in the learning of writing exposition text for students who have high interest;(2) Mind Mapping is more effective to use in the learning of writing exposition text for students who have low interest; (3) Show Not Tell is more effective than Mind Mapping model in the interaction of the learning of writing exposition text based on students interest.

Abstract

Language use is determined not only by linguistic factors but also by nonlinguistic factors, i.e. social and situational factors. This study focuses on the variation pattern of Javanese as the expression of different social factors. Variation of Javanese language in Central Java might happen in various aspects, i.e. honology, lexicon, pengkramaan symptom, pengokoan symptom, and morphemic process. Such social factors as education, age, and occupation have an effect on the realization of Javanese language.

Abstract

Language contact and dialectal contact of social interaction at multilingual society in Brebes represent phenomenon draw to be studied from the perspective of sociolinguistics because this phenomenon has a correlation not only with language aspect, but also with social aspect of culture. This research aims to express 1) the pattern of Javanese shift in Brebes and 2) the social factor effect of culture in Javanese shift in Brebes. The result of this Research find that there is a Javanese shift of domain family multilingual society in Brebes. The Javanese shift happens in the pattern of Javanese shift including (a) the pattern of husband relation with wife, (b) the pattern of wife relation with husband, (c) the pattern of parents relation with child, (d) the pattern of child relation with pattern, and (d) the pattern of child relation with child. The Javanese shift in the domain family in Brebes is influenced by some social factors. The factor are (a) the speaking situation, (b) the ethnic background, (c) the ability of family members language, (d) the consanquinity relation, and (e) the topic of discussion.

Abstract

General Linguitics subject is a fundamental subject offered to semester 1students hoping to be the foundation for the students to understand other linhuisticsubjects. However, the students’ achievement in the subject was not yet optimum. Thesubject of the study was 400 freshmen of Indonesian language and literature studyprogram of Indonesian Language and Literature Department of Semarang StateUniversity who took general linguistic class. The study applied classroom actionresearch with two cycles. The results of the research were that the assessment andacademic tutorial for students in general linguistic could improve the students’ gradeand knowledge. This was shown from the improvement of the the pretest, formativetest, and posttest at the end of cycles 1 and II. The sum of the score of the pretest,formative test, and posttest at the end of cycle I are subsequently 1810, 2875, and2981. The average score of the three assements improved from 50.3 to 71.9 and 74.5.At the end of the cycle II the score improved from 3196 to 3384 with the averagescore improving from 81.7 to 84.6. Besides, the assessment and student academictutorial could change the behavior of the students who attended general linguisticclass. This was seen from the more positive change of the students’ behavior. With theplanned activities and obtained result, the writer suggests/recommends that thisactivity is applied to other subjects.Kata kunci : asesmen, tutorial, linguistik umum

Abstract

AbstrakArtikel ini bertujuan untuk mengilustrasikan bagaimana bahasa tidak bisa dilepaskan dengan budaya masyarakat penuturnya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam komunitas Samin. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Jawa yang digunakan oleh masyarakat Samin bisa menjelaskan fenomena hubungan antara bahasa dan budaya masyarakat penuturnya. Bahasa Jawa ini sangat kental dengan budaya masyarakat Samin. Kearifan lokal yang diungkap dengan bahasa Jawa meliputi ajaran tentang larangan mengumbar hawa nafsu, ajaran agar tidak berbuat jahat, ajaran tentang larangan menyakiti orang lain, ajaran tentang panutan hidup, ajaran tentang memegang teguh ucapan, ajaran tentang hukum karma, ajaran tentang kejujuran, ajaran tentang agama, ajaran tentang hal yang mustahil, ajaran tentang hak milik dan istri, ajaran tentang berbakti pada orangtua, ajaran tentang melestarikan lingkungan, dan ajaran tentang etika kerja.  AbstractThis article illustrates how a language  cannot be separated from its speaker’s culture. The research was conducted among Javanese Samin community. The research result reveals that Javanese language used by Samin society can explain the phenomenon of the relation between speaker’s language and their culture. This Javanese language is very closely related with Samin culture. The local wisdom expressed in Javanese language contain various teaching, such as on how to keep passions under control, shall not cheat, shall not hurt others, on guidance of live, on how to keep promise, on karma law, on honesty, on religious precepts, on impossible thing, on the belonging of someone as wealth and woman, on how to devote parents, on how to conserve environment, and also about work ethics.  © 2013 Universitas Negeri Semarang

Abstract

Keikonikan dalam bahasa merupakan fenomena menarik untuk dikaji. Hal ini dikarenakan oleh beberapa faktor, yakni linguistik masa kini lebih terpancang perhatiannya pada bentuk-bentuk simbolik lingual yang dikatakan bersifat arbitrer, pemahaman terhadap kaidah-kaidah keikonikan mutlak perlu dalam pengkajian bahasa, bahasa Indonesia sangat kaya dengan bentuk-bentuk lingual yang bersifat ikonik itu. Temuan penelitian ini adalah ada 10 pola pengikonikan dalam bahasa Indonesia, yaitu peniruan suara atau bunyi, pernyataan kecil atau terlalu kecil, pernyataan besar atau terlalu besar, pernyataan lebar atau terlalu lebar, pernyataan panjang atau terlalu panjang, pernyataan bulat (dan membesar atau memakan tempat yang lebih besar atau lebih luas), pernyataan tonjolan atau sembulan, pernyataan perubahan, pernyataan keadaan tetap, pernyataan tidak teraturnya tindakan atau kejadian. Iconicity in language is an interesting phenomena to study. This is because of many factors : nowadays linguistics only pay attention to arbitrary lingual symbolic form, it is necessary to understand towards rules of iconis in language study, Indonesia language has many lingual iconic form. The indings of this study are 10 iconicity patterns in Indonesian language, i.e. voice/sound mimicry, statement to stress small or too small object, statement to stress big or too big object, statement to stress large or too large object, changing larger or extend, statement to stress long or too long object, changing longer, statement to stress round (and changing bigger), statement to stress bruise, statement to stress change, statement to stress ixed condition, statement to stress unconsistent of action or event.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the type and the function of linguistic units as the proof of the local wisdom in preserving environment towards society of Javanese Talk. The data on the study are gathered and analyzed based on two procedures; they are the analysis on the process of collecting data and the analysis after the data are collected. The result of the study shows that the type of linguistic units consist of word, phrase, sentence, and expression. Meanwhile, those linguistic units function in expressing local wisdom such as in giving name, commanding/advising, praying, and teaching sesorah values.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menentukan pola sinonimi dalam bahasa Indonesia, menentukan wujud sinonimi dalam bahasa Indonesia, dan menerapkan analisis biner dalam satuan lingual yang bersinonim dalam bahasa Indonesia. Pada tahap penyediaan data, peneliti menerapkan metode simak. Teknik dasar yang digunakan adalah teknik sadap, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan teknik rekam dan catat. Metode analisis yang digunakan adalah metode padan. Adapun subjenis metode padan yang dipakai adalah metode padan subjenis referensial. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sinonim dalam bahasa Indonesia mempunyai pola kata = kata, kata = frasa, dan frasa = frasa. Adapun wujud sinonimi dalam bahasa Indonesia berupa sinonim antarkata, sinonim kata dengan frasa, dan sinonim antarfrasa. Setiap kata atau unsur lingual lainnya terdiri atas satu atau beberapa unsur yang bersama-sama membentuk makna kata atau makna unsur lingual tersebut. Dengan demikian, setiap satuan lingual memiliki komponen makna sendiri-sendiri. Perbedaan makna dalam setiap satuan lingual yang bersinonim dapat dilakukan dengan analisis biner. This study aims to determine synonymous pattern and the form of synonymy in Bahasa Indonesia and to apply binary analysis of synonymous linguistic unit in Bahasa Indonesia. The data sources are Bahasa Indonesia’s sentences and discourses which are applied to make written communication. At the stage of providing the data, the researcher applies metode simak (listening method). The basic technique used is teknik sadap (tapping method), then continued by teknik rekam (taped technique) and teknik catat (written technique). Method of analysis used is metode padan  (matched method). Its sub-type of this method used here is referential. The result of this study shows that synonym in Bahasa Indonesia has patterns, such as word = word, word = phrase, and phrase = phrase. The forms of synonymy in Bahasa Indonesia are synonym among words, between word and phrase, and among phrases. Each word or other lingual elements consist of one or some elements that form meaning of the word or lingual elements concurrently. Thus, each lingual unit has its own meaning component. The different meaning of each lingual unit which is synonymous can be done by binary analysis.
