Abstract

Mathematical representation ability is one of the skills that students need to have in the 2013 curriculum learning and self-confidence is one of the psychological aspects that students need to have in the 2013 curriculum learning. The low ability of mathematical representation and confidence of students shows the need for improvement efforts in the implementation of mathematics learning, these efforts made by applying the approach of Realistic Mathematics Education. The purpose of this study was to determine the increase in the ability of mathematical representation and self-confidence of students through a realistic mathematics education approach. The type of this research is experimental research with quantitative approach. The research design used in this research is True Experimental Design with pre-test and post-test control group design. The population in this study were all students of class VII Junior High School, with two class samples of class VII-4 as the experimental class and class VII-5 as control class obtained by random sampling. The research instrument used was a mathematical representation ability test and a student confidence questionnaire ? data analysis performed by finding N-Gain value, normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test based on students' initial and final ability. The results showed that there was an increase in the ability of mathematical representation and self-confidence of students through a realistic mathematics education approach.Keywords: ability of mathematical representation, self-confidence, realistic mathematics education approach.

Abstract

Biodiesel merupakan bahan bakar alternatif pengganti minyak diesel berbasis fosil. Upaya mendapatkan bahan baku yang murah dan ekonomis untuk memproduksi biodiesel perlu terus dilakukan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajariproses produksi biodiesel dari limbah ampas kelapa menggunakan proses transesterifikasi in situ dengan bantuan gelombang mikro. Proses transesterifikasi in situ dilakukan pada daya mikrowave 450, 600 dan 800 watt, waktu reaksi 3-6 menit, rasio molar metanol 10:1 hingga 25:1 dan jumlah katalis KOH 2-5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, rendemen biodiesel tertinggi adalah sebesar 98,23% pada kondisi daya mikrowave 800 watt, waktu reaksi 4 menit, rasio molar pelarut 20:1 dan konsentrasi katalis KOH 4%. Hasil pengujian mutu biodiesel dari hasil penelitian ini adalah viskositas kinematik 2,7 mm2/s, densitas 850 kg/m3 dan angka asam 0,4 mg-KOH/g. Komposisi asam lemak biodiesel dari ampas kelapa adalah methyl laurate (29,41%), methyl oleate (21,05%), methyl myristate (20,21%), methyl palmitate (14,18%), methyl caprate (6,94%), methyl linoleate (5,47%) dan methyl octanoate (2,25%).

Abstract

Water quality assessment in the tsunami-affected areas conducted in Meuraxa and Kutaradja sub-districts in the area of Banda Aceh City. Water samples were collected in October 2006 from dug wells of tsunami-affected areas. These were characterized for various physical and chemical parameters. Water quality in the selected areas has shown that the surface water was contaminated due to the tsunami. Total Dissolved Solid, Total Suspended Solid, Acidity, and salinity were high in the affected areas indicating saline water intrusion into surface water tables. Dug wells in the highly affected locations showed higher values of heavy metal ions like Mn, Pb, Cu, Fe, Zn, and Cu compared to the reference points. No ion Hg was found in all samples. Abstract

Mathematical achievement in problem solving is not yet as expected. This is due to strategies that have not accommodated the situation of students.  Adversity quontient is the state of the student who needs to get the attention of the teacher so that the learning strategy is expected to be appropriate. This research aims to describe the thinking process of MTs Darul Hikmah students in solving mathematical problems in build side spaces of material reviewed from adversity quotient. This research is in the form of qualitative. The subject selection was done by giving questionnaires to class VIII MTsS Darul Hikmah students and obtained by each one person from each adversity quotient group. The subjects in this study amounted to two students. Data collection is done through tests and interviews, while data analysis uses qualitative data analysis techniques, namely data reduction, data display and conclusions from each adversity quotient group. The results showed that no class VIII students entered the quitters group and the results of the study also showed that class VIII students consisted of climpers and campers. The process of thinking of MTsS Darul Hikmah students based on adversity quotient varied: students in the climbers category namely 3 of 53 students had conceptual thinking processes, while students in the campers category were 27 of 53 students did not have conceptual, semiceptual, or computational thinking processes.

Abstract

Geometry is one of the materials that are considered important in mathematics with the aim that students gain confidence regarding math skills, be excellent problem solvers, and can communicate and reason mathematically. Geometry is a branch of mathematics closely related to spatial ability, the ability to visualize an image, recognize shapes and objects accurately, make changes to an object in his mind and recognize the difference, describes an object in mind and turn it into a tangible form, reveals the data in graphical form as well as sensitivity to relationships, color, line, shape, and space. This study focused on improving spatial skills based on research conducted by Olkun (2003), the ability to visualize the image, including the ability to mentally rotate and flip through 2D and 3D objects quickly and precisely. This research used a quasi-experimental design with pretest-postest group design. The instrument was used in the form of spatial ability tests. Population in this research was Year 8 students in one of the junior high school in Banda Aceh, and selected samples were the students from one of the classroom. The data analyzed in that the data pre-test and post-test spatial ability, using the t-test for data pairs. The result showed that the spatial ability of students after being given a lesson with the help of Cabri 3D software better than before given the spatial ability of students learning with the help of Cabri 3D software.

Abstract

Mathematically critical thinking skills are two very important capabilities owned by a student. It allows the students to reason and solve problems in everyday life. The ability to cultivate, then one relevant learning is realistic mathematics learning. This study aims to analyze the increasa in critical thinking skills students acquire mathematical learning of mathematics using realistic mathematics approach whit student who received conventional mathematics, as well as see the interaction by the level of prior knowledge of students. This study is a quasi experimental study research design Pretest Posttest Control Design. The population of this research is all class X students at SMK Negeri 1 Meulaboh by taking two classes of samples taken at random from the 7 classes available. Data analysis was performed using t-test and ANOVA two lanes with a significance level of 0.05, both based on the whole student or based on prior knowledge of students. Based on the results of the study concluded that: 1) peningkatan critical thinking skills mathematical students taught through realistic mathematics approach is better than the critical thinking skills of students taught by conventional, 2) terdapat interaction between realistic mathematics approach to the level of students' critical thinking skills mathematically.

Abstract

The aquifers exploration has been conducted at the western part of Banda Aceh, Indonesia. This research aims to explore the aquifer layer beneath the surface and to obtain the cross-section model of the aquifer. The Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES) method was applied to investigate the aquifer layer. The VES method worked as the current penetrated into the ground using of two electrodes and the potential response due to its current being measured by another two electrodes. Ten grid points of VES has performed in western part of Krueng Aceh of Banda Aceh using the ARES (Automatic Resistivity Meter). The Res1Dinv and curve matching computer software used in VES data processing and analysis. The result shows the resistivity value of aquifer in Banda Aceh city at the range of 1 ? 12 ?m for freshwater, and 0.1 ? 0.6 for brackish water layer. The first aquifer (water table) found at a depth of 0.5 to 2 meters beneath the surface. The 2-meters water table mostly located near the coastal zone or downstream zone of Krueng Aceh basin and shallow depth of 0.5 meters on the upstream. More than one aquifer layers were found beneath the surface, they were separated by aquitard layer consisting of silt to clay layers.

Abstract

In this paper we derived a modification of the model of waves evolution in two-directional spatial coordinates. Using KP equation as the basic model, we improved dispersive property in spatial x coordinate and named it as improved KP (iKP) equation. iKP has an exact dispersion relation in spatial x coordinate. Using this model, we derived second order regular waves and  analyzed the expression of Maximum Temporal Amplitude.

Abstract

Gravity Satellite has been widely used in tectonic studies and regional of geological mapping. The Satellite Gravity data are provided free by Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California San Diego. The data are acquired by GEOSAT and ERS-1 satellites with a 1.5 km resolution for one pixel. For a further application, the tilt derivative analytic technique was used in order to enhance linear trends of the geological structure revealed by the Bouguer anomalies. The method is represented by the value of an angle between the total horizontal and vertical derivative from the gravity data. The results show that the tilt derivative calculation has been able to map clearly some geological structures on the north of Sumatra i.e., the Aceh and the Seulimeuem segments, as well as some local faults around them. On the other hand, Banda Aceh as the capital city of Aceh Province and Pidie District is dominated by positive values of the tilt derivative anomalies. The data coincide with geological maps of both areas where they are covered by alluvial deposits. Based on the result, it can be concluded that the tilt derivative method is potentially used for quick interpretation of the satellite gravity data.

Abstract

This study investigates the bargaining power of labor over wages and the wage inequality among industries based on the industrial structure in Indonesia. It uses a panel data model and secondary data from 2008-2015. This study argues that wage inequality really matters among the industries and tends to enlarge among them despite the existence of  the bargaining power of labor over wage. Findings/Originality: The labor bargaining power over wage in Large and Medium Industries still has greater probability to be increased compared to that in Small and Micro Industries. It implies that the wage inequality still matters in the labor market, particularly in the three industrial groups, and tends to enlarge among them. Government has to take care seriously on the industrial structure with regard to wage bargaining power of labor and particularly wage inequality. Moreover, the government should promote fair wage levels between industries and labor of each industrial classification, particularly in developing countries.
