Abstract

PILARISASI DAN KARAKTERISASI MONTMORILLONIT. Telah dilakukan pilarisasi montmorillonit dengan Cr2O3 dengan metode interkalasi dan karakterisasinya baik secara kualitatif maupun kuantitatif. Sintesis lempung terpilar dilakukan melalui dua tahap yaitu tahap pembuatan agent pemilar berupa oligomer kation chrom dan pemilaran montmorillonit. Pembuatan oligomer dilakukan dengan melarutkan garam Cr(NO3)3. 9H2O dalam air terdemineralisasi selama 36 jam dengan pemanasan pada suhu 95oC sambil diaduk dengan pengaduk magnet. Pemilaran lempung dilakukan dengan melarutkan Na-montmorillonit ke dalam larutan campuran air terdemineralisasi dan aseton, selanjutnya mencampurkan suspensi tersebut ke dalam larutan oligomer sambil diaduk dengan pengaduk magnet pada suhu pemanasan 40 oC selama 24 jam. Campuran disaring kemudian padatan yang diperoleh dikeringkan dan selanjutnya dikarakteristik menggunakan spektrofotometer inframerah, difraksi sinar-X, analisis adsorpsi gas dan analisis pengaktifan neutron. Analisis yang sama juga dilakukan pada Na-montmorillonit yang digunakan sebagai pembanding. Tahap selanjutnya adalah uji keasaman permukaan yang dilakukan secara kualitatif yaitu dengan metode spektrofotometer infra merah dan secara kuantitatif dengan metode gravimetri yaitu dengan mengadsorbsikan amoniak ke dalam montmorillonit terpilar Cr2O3. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pilarisasi Na-montmorillonit dengan Cr2O3 membentuk montmorillonit terpilar Cr2O3 dengan tinggi pilar sebesar 5,95Å, Pilarisasi juga mengakibatkan kenaikan luas permukaan spesifik dari dari 90,0587 m2/g (Na-montmorillonit) menjadi 170,471 m2/g (montmorillonit terpilar) dan volume total pori dari 60,9264 x 10-3 cm3/g (Na-montmorillonit) menjadi 92,6631 x 10-3 cm3/g (montmorillonit terpilar Cr2O3). Keasaman permukaan montmorillonit meningkat dari 0,6673 mmol/g (Na-Montmorillonit) menjadi 2,6965 mmol/g (montmorillonit terpilar Cr2O3).

Abstract

Synthesis of alginate-chitosan polyelectrolyte membrane and the determination of the physical-mechanical properties were carried out. Alginate-chitosan polyelectrolyte complex membrane can be made by mixing hydrosol alginate and chitosan hydrosol with a ratio of 1: 1 at pH 5.28. Membranes of alginate-chitosan polyelectrolyte complexes produced have physical-mechanical properties including load, elongation and elasticity, water absorption and resistance better than the constituent polymers. The results of FTIR spectroscopy analysis showed that there was an electrostatic interaction between alginate and chitosan through protonated amine groups of chitosan and carboxylic groups from alginate. Surface analyses by SEM showed that morphology of alginate-chitosan polyelectrolyte complex membrane was different with single membrane morphology

Abstract

The objective is to develop photoreduction method catalyzed by TiO2 for the decreasing Hg(II) concentration. Photocatalytic reduction was carried out in a closed reactor equipped with UV lamp, by irradiating and stirring a mixture of Hg(II) solution and TiO2 photocatalyst powder for a certain period of time. The amount of reduced Hg(II) by photoreduction was calculated by substracting initial Hg(II) concentration with unreduced one, which was determined using cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometry method. The result of the research indicated that the use of TiO2 photocatalyst has increased the effectiveness of Hg(II) photoreduction. In the photocatalysis process TiO2 exposured by photon energy could resulted in ?OH radicals and electrons that can recombined in the same time. The presence of p-chlorophenol in the solution mixture increased the photoreduction effectiveness probably due to its capability in capturing ?OH radicals.TiO2 decreases in its crystalinity up to 15.54 % after process.Keywords: photoreduction, Hg(II), TiO2, p-chlorophenol

Abstract

The effect of water molecule addition into modeling structure of complex of substituted dibenzo-18-crown-6 ether with metal ion Na+ was studied. The aim of this research is to find information about geometrical conformation of substituted DB18C6 and its selectivity to complex/coordinate metal ion Na+ in the presence of water molecule. In this research semi empirical method was used for calculation. To find the best conformation, trial and error experiments were conducted using semi empirical method available in HyperChem 6.0, finally MNDO/d method was selected. The result of geometry optimization showed that addition of water molecule improve the stability of the conformation of substituted DB18C6 and increase the selectivity of this compound to complex metal ion Na+. The presence of electron-withdrawing substituents decreased the binding energy while that of electron-donating one increase the binding energy (value of DE more negative). Cavity radii of DB18C6 in the presence of water molecule extended from 2.3 Å to 2.6 Å. This figure is almost similar to that of experimental data.

Abstract

The effect of ethanol addition and solution heating on the analytical performance of the determination of ammonia in water by indophenol blue method was studied. The addition of ethanol and solution heating was intended to overcome the problem of reproducibility and sensitivity ussually found in the determination of ammonia by indophenol blue method which is carried out in 100 % aqueous media. The determination of ammonia was done indirectly by reacting ammonia in the sample with hypochloride and phenol using nitroprussida as catalyst to yield blue color-intense chromophore of indophenol. The chromophore was then detected by UV-Visible spectrophotometer. The proposed method was applied for the determination of ammonia in various samples of river water located in Yogyakarta and Makassar.             Results of the study showed that ethanol addition into analytical solution and solution heating enhanced the formation of indophenol blue. The optimal heating was achieved after 90 minutes of mixing. In ethanol/water medium (50/50, v/v), indophenol blue exhibited maximum absorbance at 648 nm. The analytical performance of ammonia determination by indophenol blue method in this medium is as followed: detection limit = 0.03 ppm, relative standard deviation (RSD) = 2.50 % and the calibration curve was linear in the concentration range of 0.0 - 0.4 ppm with correlation coefficient (r) = 0.9968. Results of ammonia determination in various samples of river water showed that the highest concentration of ammonia (2.421 ppm) was found in Tallo river, Makassar, while the lowest (0.359 ppm) was shown by the river near SGM factory, Yogyakarta.

Abstract

A Monte Carlo simulation was performed for Co2+ in 18.6 % aqueous ammonia solution at a temperature of 293.16 K, using ab initio pair potentials and three-body potentials for Co-H2O-H2O, Co-NH3-NH3 and Co-H2O-NH3 interactions. The first solvation shell consists average of 2.9 water and 3.2 ammonia molecules, and the second shell of 10.4 water and 11.2 ammonia molecules. The structure of the solvated ion is discussed in terms of radial distribution functions, angular distributions and coordination number.

Abstract

The adsorption and photodegradation of cationic and anionic dyes by TiO2-chitosan nanocomposites have been studied. This study investigated the specific surface area, pores volume, pores size of TiO2-Chitosan nanocomposite, and determination kinetics of the reaction on the adsorption and photodegradation process. The methods were carried out by mixing TiO2-nanocomposite into cationic and anionic dyes in various contact times and initial dye concentrations. The results showed that nanocomposite adsorption capacity increased with an increase in the amount of chitosan (TiO2/Chit 0.13) even though the specific surface area (SBET) was reduced. The results indicated that the adsorption on nanocomposite was influenced by the amount of -NH2 and -OH on the chitosan surface. The maximum adsorption capacity (qm) and the observed reaction constant (kObs) for MO were also known to be higher than MB, which means that the TiO2-chitosan nanocomposites could remove anionic dye more than cationic one.

Abstract

The adulteration of high priced oils such as patchouli oil with lower price ones is motivated to gain the economical profits. The aim of this study was to use FTIR spectroscopy combined with chemometrics for the authentication of patchouli oil (PaO) in the mixtures with Castor Oil (CO) and Palm Oil (PO). The FTIR spectra of PaO and various vegetable oils were scanned at mid infrared region (4000?650 cm?1), and were subjected to principal component analysis (PCA). Quantitative analysis of PaO adulterated with CO and PO were carried out with multivariate calibration of Partial Least Square (PLS) regression. Based on PCA, PaO has the close similarity to CO and PO. From the optimization results, FTIR normal spectra in the combined wavenumbers of 1200?1000 and 3100?2900 cm?1 were chosen to quantify PaO in PO with coefficient of determination (R2) value of 0.9856 and root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC) of 4.57% in calibration model. In addition, R2 and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) values of 0.9984 and 1.79% were obtained during validation, respectively. The normal spectra in the wavenumbers region of 1200?1000 cm?1 were preferred to quantify PaO in CO with R2 value of 0.9816 and RMSEC of 6.89% in calibration, while in validation model, the R2 value of 0.9974 and RMSEP of 2.57% were obtained. Discriminant analysis was also successfully used for classification of PaO and PaO adulterated with PO and CO without misclassification observed. The combination of FTIR spectroscopy and chemometrics provided an appropriate model for authentication study of PaO adulterated with PO and CO.

Abstract

Analisis hubungan kuantitatif struktur dan aktivitas (HKSA) dilakukan untuk senyawa turunan triazolopiperazin amida untuk menghibisi enzim DPP IV penyebab diabetes melitus tipe 2. Analisis ini dilakukan dengan pemodelan molekul turunan triazolopiperazin amida dan perhitungan deskriptor HKSA menggunakan metode semiempirik PM3 dengan program HyperchemÒ. Analisis data menggunakan metode analisis regresi multilinear untuk parameter elektronik dan molekular dengan program SPSSÒ. Persamaan terbaik yang diperoleh adalah:-log IC50 = 79,955 - (11,635*qC1) - (2,094*qC2) - (34,6*qN11) + (797,684*qC15) + (0,288*m) n = 18; r = 0,714; adjusted r2 = 0,305; Fhit/Ftab = 1,239; PRESS = 0,017.Berdasarkan persamaan tersebut, senyawa dengan aktivitas terbaik yang diusulkan adalah:((2R)-4-Okso-4-[3-(Trifluorometil)-5,6-dihidro[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pirazin-7(8H)-il]-1-(2-fluoro-4,6-dihidroksofenil)butan-2-aminadengan harga ?log IC50 = 8,601.

Abstract

Natural Turen bentonite has been modified and applied as catalyst for palmitic acid esterification. Modification of natural Turen bentonite was conducted by cation exchange method using AlCl3 solution. Catalyst characterization was performed on X-ray Fluoroscence, X-ray Diffraction, nitrogen adsorption-desorption and infrared spectroscopy techniques. The catalytic activity test in the esterification reaction of palmitic acid with methanol was conducted by bath at 65 °C with a variation of reaction time of 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 h. Catalytic activity has been observed qualitatively using GC-MS and quantitatively by changes in acid number. The analysis showed the formation of Al3+-bentonite. Observation on the elements has shown that the presence of calcium decreased from 10.2% to 4.17%, with an increase of aluminium content from 9.9% to 13%. Diffraction line at 2? 5.7379º became 5.6489º, along with changes in d-spacing of 15.3895 Å to 15.6319 Å. The surface area increased from 83.78 m2/g to 91.26 m2/g, while Brönsted acid sites increased from 10.2 µmol/g to 67.5 µmol/g and Lewis acid sites increased from 94.9 µmol/g to 132 µmol/g. Furthermore, Al3+-bentonite has showed as active catalyst in the esterification reaction of palmitic acid with palmitic acid with conversion of 78.78% for 5 h. © 2014 BCREC UNDIP.
