Abstract

This study aims to determine the ability of students in understanding of graph based on interpersonal and logical mathematical intelligence. The approach used in this research was mixed methods by using the stepwise mixed model especially sequence explanatory model. The subjects were six students on grade XI of MAN 1 Banda Aceh selected based on students who have interpersonal and logical mathematical intelligence. The results showed that student?s graphics ability with high interpersonal intelligence was in fair criteria, the student was able to translate the graph, but not yet able to interpret and extrapolate the graph. A student with medium interpersonal intelligence had good criteria in understanding the graph when viewed from the ability to translate and interpret the graph, but still made mistakes in interpreting the graph. The ability to understand graphics of low interpersonal students was in good criteria that was shown by smoothly translating graphs, being able to interpret graphs, and being able to extrapolate graphics appropriately. Student?s understanding of graphs of high mathematical logical intelligence was at excellent criteria that were showed by being able to translate graphs, being able to interpret and extrapolate graphs. The ability of understanding graphics in students with medium mathematical logical intelligence was having good criteria means that students are fluent in translating the graph but still lacking in interpreting and extrapolating the graph. Student understanding of graph with low mathematical logical intelligence had inadequate criteria, meaning that student was only able to translate graphs on some translational indicators.Keywords: interpersonal intelligence, logical mathematical intelligence, mathematical understanding.

Abstract

This study aims to determine solution of Boussinesq equation which is approximated by using asymptotic expansion method. Nonlinearity of Boussinesq equation causes the solution is not easily determined, so the solution is approached through its linearity. This method is in the form of power series expansion up to third-order, where each term of the series is linear. Furthermore, the finding solution is compared with the solution that was found by Mohyud in previous study. The result of this comparison showed that there were similarities of the two solutions. However, differences occur in phase as modeled in the solution of each method

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to analyze the problem solving abilities and beliefs of prospective teachers in solving problem solving problems. The type of research used in this study is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. Based on this research, it is known that students with different abilities can do problem solving procedures, ranging from understanding problems, planning, carrying out problem solving and checking again but the results are different in each ability. Students' confidence in solving problem solving problems is relatively the same for all levels of ability, namely they believe that solving problems solving problems takes a long time, except that the length of time required for each level of the subject is different. The three subjects also believe that problem solving is useful in learning mathematics and in everyday life. They also believe that problem-solving abilities can be improved by the learning process.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk analisis kemampuan pemecahan masalah dan keyakinan calon guru  dalam menyelesaikan soal pemecahan masalah. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Berdasarkan penelitian ini diketahui mahasiswa dengan kemampuan berbeda dapat melakukan prosedur pemecahan masalah, mulai dari memahami masalah, merencanakan, melaksanakan pemecahan masalah dan memeriksa kembali, tetapi hasilnya berbeda pada setiap kemampuan. Keyakinan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan soal pemecahan masalah relatif sama untuk semua tingkat kemampuan, yaitu mereka yakin menyelesaikan soal  pemecahan masalah membutuhkan waktu yang lama, hanya saja lama waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk masing-masing tingkatan subjek berbeda. Ketiga subjek juga yakin bahwa pemecahan masalah berguna dalam pembelajaran matematika dan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Mereka juga yakin bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah dapat ditingkatkan dengan proses belajar.

Abstract

Relational understanding in mathematics is important for the student's it causes understanding the mathematical concepts will be memorable if he knows the process of getting the concept by linking it with the knowledge to be learned. This study aimed to examine the relational understanding of students in discovering the concept of f '(x) using Geometer's Sketchpad, and the relational understanding of students in discovering the concept of f (x) = x2 + c let f' (x) = 2x  using Geometer's Sketchpad.  It also investigated the students' responses when they use Geometer's Sketchpad in understanding the derivative function. The study used a qualitative approach. Subjects in this study were three Year 11 students of one the junior high school in Meuredu, Aceh, Indonesia. The instruments were observation sheet, interview guides, student worksheets and test questions. The data analysis included the classification of information obtained from observations when the subjects used software Sketchpad Geometers in their learning. Information about students' relational understanding obtained from the student worksheets reinforced with test questions and interviews so that the results can be accounted for. This study concluded that (1) students' relational understanding (Subjects RV, subject MR, subject AA) in discovering the concept of f '(x) using Geometer's Sketchpad was good; (2) students' relational understanding (Subjects RV, subject MR, subject AA) in discovering the concept of f (x) = x2 + c let f '(x) = 2x using Geometer's Sketchpad was a good; and (3) the responses of Subjects RV, subject MR, subject AA in using Geometer's Sketchpad were positive, each research subject was very pleased and liked to use Geometer's Sketchpad in understanding the derivative function.

Abstract

The purpose of the mathematics learning basically to increase three aspects that are how to thinking and reasoning, to developing the ability of problem solving and to developing the ability of communication. But the fact is many students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah in Banda Aceh haven?t got those three aspects, especially to thinking and to solve the problem. It happens because the mathematics learning that teaches by the teacher didn?t implicate the student actively and didn?t give the chance to the student to solve the problem with some ways to solve, so the ability of creative thinking and the problem solving  of the students is not optimal. Cause of that implemented the learning which is help the student in develop the idea or the strategy and increase the activity that is the learning of the project based learning model. The purpose of this research is to knowing  the ability of creative thinking and problem solving of the student after applying project based learning model comparing with before applying project based learning model and correlation  between the ability of creative thinking and problem solving. This research is the experimental research with the research design one-group pretest-postt test group design. Population of this research is the students of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Swasta Darul Ulum Banda Aceh, and the sample of this research  is the students in grade second-eight (VIII-2). Instrumental of this research consisted the test of the ability of creatively thinking and problem solving. Data Analyze does with quantitative using the t-test which is paired samples T-Test to testing the difference of the score that is got by the students before the test and after the test. The result of this research shows that the ability of the creative thinking  and problem solving of the student  after applying the project based learning model is better than before applying the project based learning model. Besides that, there is the correlation between the creative thinking abilityand problem solving of the student that is learnt through applying the project based learning. The correlation of ability of creative thinking and problem solving is in sufficient category.

Abstract

Perkembangan di bidang teknologi informasi dan komunikasi dilandasi oleh perkembangan matematika di bidang teori bilangan, aljabar, analisis, teori peluang dan matematika diskrit. Untuk menguasai dan mencipta teknologi di masa depan diperlukan penguasaan matematika yang kuat sejak dini. kemampuan representasi dan kemampuan pemecahan masalah termuat pada kemampuan standar menurut Depdiknas dan NCTM dan merupakan kemampuan penting yang harus ditingkatkan oleh siswa. kemampuan representasi matematis diperlukan siswa untuk menemukan dan membuat solusi atau cara berfikir dalam mengkomunikasikan gagasan matematis dari yang sifatnya abstrak menuju konkret. Proses berfikir dalam pemecahan masalah memerlukan kemampuan mengorganisasikan strategi. Untuk meningkatkan kedua kemampuan matematis ini perlu adanya pembaharuan Pendekatan mengajar. Salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran matematika yang ditawarkan yaitu pendekatan problem posing. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMA kelas X pada SMA Negeri Unggul Harapan Persada Kabupaten Aceh Barat Daya, dengan sampel dua kelas. Berdasarkanhasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan problem posing lebih baik daripada siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan  konvensional (0,005 0,05); (2) peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang  menggunakan pendekatan  problem posing lebih baik daripada siswa yangmenggunakan pembelajaran konvensional (0,026 0,05); (3) terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis yang menggunakan pendekatan  problem posing dengan menggunakan pendekatan  konvensional ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis siswa [tinggi (0,145 0,05), sedang (0,001 0,05), rendah (0,035 0,05)]; (4) terdapat perbedaan peningkatan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis yang  menggunakan pendekatan pembalajaran problem posing dan siswa yang menggunakan pendekatan konvensional ditinjau dari kemampuan awal matematis siswa [tinggi (0,000 0,05), sedang (0,000 0,05), rendah (0,392 0,05)]

Abstract

The mathematical ability that should be owned by the students as stated by the NCTM, namely (1) learn to communicate; (2) learn to reason; (3) learn to solve problems; (4) learn to associate ideas; (5) learning to represent ideas. By having the ability mathematical understanding, students are able to explain the relationship between concepts and is able to communicate ideas with symbols, tables, diagrams, or other media to clarify the issue and was able to solve the problems. It is thus necessary that the proper application of learning models to improve the understanding and communication of mathematical students is one model of cooperative jigsaw. This study aims to determine the increase in the ability of students mathematical understanding and communication that derive jigsaw cooperative learning with students who received conventional teaching students to be reviewed as a whole and by the beginning of students mathematical abilities. This research used experimental design with pretest-posttest control group design. Samples selected by random sampling consisted of two classes, namely classes and class XMIA5 XMIA2. Collecting data using test instruments mathematical understanding and communication capabilities that pretest and posttest in the second grade. hypothesis testing using t-test, t test "and Mann Whitney test with a significance level of 0.05. Based on the results of data analysis is concluded that, overall, students increase their understanding and mathematical communication abilities of students who obtain a type of cooperative learning jigsaw better than students who received conventional learning. Judging from the initial ability of students mathematical (a) Increasing the ability of understanding mathematical group students of high, medium and low gain type of cooperative learning jigsaw better than a group of students of high, medium and low who obtain conventional learning, (b) Improved communication capabilities mathematical student group medium and low gain type of cooperative learning jigsaw better than a group of students of high, medium and low who obtain conventional learning.

Abstract

This study investigates the bargaining power of labor over wages and the wage inequality among industries based on the industrial structure in Indonesia. It uses a panel data model and secondary data from 2008-2015. This study argues that wage inequality really matters among the industries and tends to enlarge among them despite the existence of  the bargaining power of labor over wage. Findings/Originality: The labor bargaining power over wage in Large and Medium Industries still has greater probability to be increased compared to that in Small and Micro Industries. It implies that the wage inequality still matters in the labor market, particularly in the three industrial groups, and tends to enlarge among them. Government has to take care seriously on the industrial structure with regard to wage bargaining power of labor and particularly wage inequality. Moreover, the government should promote fair wage levels between industries and labor of each industrial classification, particularly in developing countries.

Abstract

This paper discuss the impact of dispersion and non-linear terms combinations the surface wave equation particularly on the peaking phenomena of the wave water that initially in the form of a bichromatic wave. The study for both of these terms are focused on the position where the bichromatic wave experience its highest peaking and its related bichromatic amplitude amplification. In the previous study, the position where the bichromatic wave experience its highest peaking is of order   and its bichromatic amplitude amplification is of order , where  and  are the amplitude and frequency of the bichromatic wave envelope, respectively. This result is based on the fifth order Korteweg de Vries (KdV) equation and the quantity that obtained is called Maximal Temporal Amplitude (MTA). However, despite the the position where the bichromatic wave experience its highest peaking suits the result  of Stansberg experiment and the result of numerical calculation using HUBRIS, its related bichromatic wave amplitude amplification is not close enough. The source of this discrepancy is suspected from the dispersion and non-linear terms of the KdV equation used. This study shows that the existence of the dispersion and non-linear terms influences the position of  Maximal Temporal Amplitude (MTA) and its bichromatic wave amplitude amplification.  For the coefficient of dispersion term of 1.0065 and  nonlinear term of , the position of MTA and bichromatic wave amplitude amplification suits the result of Stansberg experiment and the result of numerical calculation using HUBRIS

Abstract

Abstract. To increase and improve PISA rankings (Programme for International of Student Assessment) of Indonesian students not only starts from the students, but also teachers and prospective teachers. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of students as prospective teachers to solve problems of high-level PISA (most difficult) is level 5. This study was a descriptive study using a qualitative approach to describe the ability of each student in solving PISA question. The subjects were students taking the Teaching Mathematics I course of Mathematics Education Program FKIP Unsyiah. Data analysis in qualitative research based on the results of the data collection process in the form of field notes, documentation, and interviews. Assessment conducted on students ability to solve problems using the PISA assessment rubric. Furthermore, the score obtained is converted into the interval level of ability. The results showed only one student (14,28 %) of the seven students who have an excellent ability to resolve the matter appropriately. Meanwhile, three students (42,85 %) experienced only a mistake on the problems at the problem of the distance down. However, the ability of the three students vary based on the accuracy of the analysis in solving aspects. For the third ability of other students (42,85 %) were still low due to the settlement of questions that do not quite right with the ability to be at sufficient levels. Based on the results of this study are expected each faculty can use international issues as a matter of PISA in learning, so that students get used to solve the problems of non-routine to improve their ability to understand and solve problems, which can contribute to the future of teaching practice. Keywords: PISA, most difficult level, students as prospective teachers
