Abstract

Abstract: The background of this research was the low ability of students mathematical understanding which effect to the lower score of mathematics learning outcomes in junior high school. The type of this research is experimental research and using the static group comparison design. The population in this research were all grade IX students of SMP Negeri 1 Kampar Timur. The sample in this research consists of two class, where the IX1 as an experimental class and the IX2 as a control class. The aim in this research was to know the effect of implementation discovery learning model toward students mathematical understanding ability based on KD 3.7 Create the generalization of the surface area and the volume of curved side geometry (tube, cone, and ball), and KD 4.7 Complete the contextual problems which are related to the surface area and the volume of curved side geometry (tube, cone, and ball), and also the combination of some of the curved side geometries. The instruments in this research were mathematical early ability test and the mathematical understanding ability test (postest). The result of mathematical early ability test was used for determining the sample of class. The postest result was analyzed by nonparametric statistic test of Mann Whitney and the magnitude of the effect was calculated using the Cohen?s formula. The result of the research showed that implementation discovery learning model gave the positive effect toward the mathematical understanding ability. The implementation discovery learning model had a magnitude of the effect for 76% toward the students mathematical understanding ability at grade IX of SMP Negeri 1 Kampar Timur and included in the medium category.Key Words: Discovery Learning, Mathematical Understanding Ability.

Abstract

Abstract: This research was based on the students achievement in learning mathematics especially grade VIII1 of SMP Negeri 15 Pekanbaru under the Mastery Minimum Criteria with percentage of 43,6% on the test about cube, cuboid, prism, pyramid. Beside, this research was based on the low of students learning activity with the percentage of 60,53% of students still looks passive in the process of learning math. This research is a class action research. This research aims to improve the leraning activities students and learning result in mathematics in grade VIII1 of SMP Negeri 15 Pekanbaru by implementation of CTL approach. The analyzed in quantitive showed there is an increase in againts the seven indicators of the activity of student learning. The results of this research showed an increasing number of students learning mathematic from the basic score with percentage 38,46% to 68,42% on the test I and 81,58% on the test II. Based on the result of this research could be concluded that the implementation of CTL Approach can improve the students learning activity and student’s achievement of learning mathematic in grade VIII1 of SMP Negeri 15 Pekanbaru in the first semester academic years 2016/2017.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to know  the  differences of enhancement  in mathematical problem  solving ability (MPSA)  between  the students who received   soft skill-  based metacognitive learning (SSML) with the students who got conventional learning (CL). This research is a quasi experimental design  with pretest-postest control group.  The population in this study is the students of Junior High School in Pekanbaru city.  The sample consist of  135 students, 68 of them are from the high-level school, and 67 students are from the middle-level school. The instruments are mathematical prior knowledge (MPK) test, MPSA test, instruction observation sheet, students journal about the lesson, and the guideline for interview. The data was analyzed using t-test  and two-way ANOVA. The result of data analysis  indicates: (1) overall, the enhancement of students’ MPSA with SSML approach significantly  is higher than those with conventional learning (CL); (2) there is no interaction between the learning approach (SSML and CL) with the school level (high and middle) toward the enhancement of MPSA; (3) there is no interaction between the learning approach (SSML and CL)  with MPK (upper, middle, and low) toward the enhancement of MPSA. Keywords: Mathematical Problem Solving Ability, Soft Skills-Based, Metacognitive Learning

Abstract

Abstract: The background of this research is the low outcomes study of mathematical  of students class XI MAN 3 Pekanbaru. The purposes of this research are (1) to describe the difference of mathematical outcomes study of students who study through discovery learning (DL) model with student who study through conventional learning with scientific approaching; (2) to describe the improvment of mathematical outcomes study of students who study through discovery learning (DL) model with students who study through conventional learning with scientific approaching. This research is an experimental research (quasi experiment) with The Nonequivalent Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The population of this research is all students of class XI MAN 3 Pekanbaru. The sample of this research consits of two classes, class XI MIA2 as experiment class and XI MIA1 as control class. The research instruments are mathematical prior knowledge test and matehmatical outcomes study test. Mathematical prior knowledge test score were used to select the sample of this research. Data were analysed by using Independent sample t-test preceded by normality test and homogenity of variances test. The result showed that the difference of mathematical and the improvement of mathematical outcomes study of students who study through DL model is higher than student who study through conventional learning with scientific approaching.  Key Words: Discovery Learning, Mathematical Outcomes Study

Abstract

Abstract: This research is classroom action research that aims to improve learning process and to increase mathematics achievement with applied the learning cooperative technique Think Pair Share (TPS) model. The research consist of two cycles, each cycle has four stages, which are planning, implementation, observation, and reflection.The research subject of this research is student of class VIII3 SMPN 17 Pekanbaru in academic years 2018/2019, which amounted to 39 students, consist of 23 boys and 16 girls. The instruments of data collection in this research were observation sheets and students Mathematic tests. The observation sheets were analyzed in qualitative descriptive, while the students’ Mathematic tests were in quantitative descriptive. The qualitative descriptive showed an improvement of learning process prior to the action on the first and second cycle. Most of students were very confidenced and actived in learning process, such as while they were finished mathemathic’s problems that given, presenting the result of problems and giving the conclusion of learning. Number of students that reach Minimum Mastery Criteria increase from basic score to first test I and II. The results of this research showed an increasing number of students learning mathematics about knowledge of the basic score (43,59%)to the first test (56,41%) to the second test II (61,53%). For the skills of basic score (38,46%) to the first test (43,59%) to the second test (64,10%), Results of this research indicates that appication of the learning cooperative technique Think Pair Share (TPS) model can improve learning process and increase mathematics achievement from the students at class VIII3 SMPN 17 Pekanbaru the second academic years 2018/2019 for the subject matter Circle.Key Words : Mathematics Achievement, Learning Cooprative Technique Think Pair Share (TPS)

Abstract

Abstract: The background of this research is motivated by the limited number of mathematics learning devices that can be used as references by teachers in developing learning devices independently in accordance with the demands of the 2013 curiculum. The purpose of this study is to produce a learning devices with a problem based learning model on the material of the size concentration and dissemination of data Class VIII. Learning instruments in this study are syllabus, lesson plans, and student worksheet. The develoment model used is model 4D by define, design, develop, disseminate. The research instrument used was an instrument of validity and practicality. The validity instrument is a validation sheet to assess the validity and learning tools. Practicality instruments in the form of question naire responses of students to the use of LKPD. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that the mathematics learning tool is considered to be very valid with an average rating for the syllabus is 3.69, RPP is 3.62 and LKPD is 3.62. This LKPD has also fulfilled the practicality requirements with an score average student response questionnaire reaching 3.52 in large group trials.Key Words: Mathematics Learning Devices, Problem Based Learning, Researchand Development.

Abstract

Abstract: The background of this research is by the limited availability of mathematic learning instruments as supporting learning referring to Curriculum 2013. This research purpose is produce to mathematics learning instrument (Syllabus, Lesson Plan and Student Worksheet) which refers to Discovery Learning model on subject Circle for SMA/MA with minimum valid and practical criteria. This reserch method used is 4D model by Thiangrajan, that consist of define, design, development and dissemination, but the reserch only done to development step due to time constraints. In this research, a limited trial was conducted on 13 students of grade XII. Based on the results data analysis, it can be concluded that mathematics learning is very valid with the average ratings for the syllabus is 4,60; the average ratings for lesson plan is 4,62 and the average ratings for the student worksheet is 4,63. The student worksheet has also reached the practical qualification in mean percentage of student responses 94,61% in limited group trial with very practical criteria. Based on the results of this research can be concluded that the product in the form of syllabus, Lesson Plan and Student Worksheet mathematics with discovery learning model on subject Circle for grade XI is considered very valid and practical.Key Words: Research and Development, Mathematics Learning Instruments,Discovery Learning model, Circle

Abstract

Abstract: This research aims to improve mathematics learning outcomes in fifth grade students of SD 80 Bumbung by implementing cooperative learning model Students Teams Achievement Division (STAD). The subjects in this study were fifth grade students consisting of 12 male and 13 female with the heterogeneous academic ability. This research is a class act consisting of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of three meetings and one-time Daily Deuteronomy (UH) which was held at the end of each cycle. This study also consists of four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The result of observations indicate the teachers and students activities have performing well after the action. After UH held at the end of the cycle, the number of students who achieve a score is increase of KKM compare to the basic score. With this increasing, the results of research carried out showed that the implementation of STAD cooperative learning model to improve mathematics learning outcomes in fifth grade students of SD 80 Bumbung in the odd semester of the academic year 2013/2014.Keywords: Learning Processes, Results Learning Mathematics, Cooperative Learning, STAD, Classroom Action Research

Abstract

Abstract: This research is a class action research that aims to improve the learning process and to increase the student’s mathematics learning outcomes by applying learning cycle “6E”. The subjects of this research are the student of class XI Science I MAN 1 Pekanbaru at first semester of academic years 2015/2016, which amounts to 31 students consist of 13 male and 18 female students with the heterogenous level. This research consists of two cycles, each cycle consists of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The instruments of data collection in this research were observation sheets and students Mathematic tests. The data which collected were analyzed with descriptive analyzed statistically. The action is successful if the scores of teacher’s activities and student’s activities increase in every meeting, improve students’ math achievemsent. From analyzed of teacher and students activity in the learning process showed an improvement of learning process prior to the action on the first and second cycle. The result of this research showed an increasing number of students’ math achievement from the basic score 29 % to 54,8 % on the first daily test and 64,5 % on the second daily test. Based on the result of this research can be concluded that the implentation learning cycle “6E” models can improve students’ math achievemsent at class XI Science I MAN 1 Pekanbaru at first semester of academic years 2015/2016.Key words: Students’ Math Achievement, Learning Cycle “6E”

Abstract

Abstract: This research is a class action research that aims to improve thelearning process and to improve the student’s mathematical problem solving ability byapplying Problem Based Learning (PBL). The subjects of this research are the studentof class X2 Senior High School 1 Tanah merah at first semester of academic years2015/2016, which amounts to 29 students. This research consists of two cycles, eachcycle consists of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection.Data collected through observation and student’s mathematical problem solving abilitytest. Data analysis is done by observation data analysis and student’s mathematicalproblem solving ability data analysis. The action is successful if the scores of teacher’sactivities and student’s activities increase in every meeting, improve the student’smathematical problem solving ability every cycle and improve the classical’smathematical problem solving ability. The result of observation show teacher andstudents activities are improve better than before in every meeting. Based on dataanalisys of student’s mathematical problem solving ability test show the average N-gainof student’s mathematical problem solving ability in first cycle has improve 0,26, itsmean the student’s mathematical problem solving ability in low classification and insecond cycle the average N-gain of student’s mathematical problem solving ability hasimprove 0,39, its mean the student’s mathematical problem solving ability in mediumclassification. The average score of classical’s mathematical problem solving abilityhas improve 31,46 in first cycle than beginning test and the average score of classical’smathematical problem solving ability has improve 6,15 in second cycle than first cycle.The result of this research showed that Problem Based Learning improve the learningprocess and increase the the student’s mathematical problem solving ability of class X2Senior High School 1 Tanah merah at first semester of academic years 2015/2016.Keywords: Student’s mathematical problem solving ability, Problem Based Learning
