Abstract

An investigation on the chemical constituents of plumeria alba has been studied. The compound was extracted from the bark using n-hexane and ethyl acetate as solvent, respectively. The crude was subjected to chromatographic techniques. Isolation and purification of the compound afforded the indole alkaloid. The ethylacetate extract was test to antifungal activity against Candida albicans. The test result sowed inhibition zone of 10 mm on 20% extract concentration.

Abstract

Antimicrobial assay of n-hexane plant extracts against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus had been done. Extraction with n-Hexane of the flowers yielded 2,08% of extract, while leaves and stems yielded 3,21% and 2,19% of n-hexane extracts, respectively. The extracts showed different activity against both bioindicators. The leaves extracts showed the strongest activity indicated by wider diameters of inhibition zone, 19,7 mm against E. coli and 13,3 mm against S. aureus at 10% of the extracts’ concentration. At the same concentration (10%), the steam and flower extracts showed less inhibitory activities with  11,3 mm and 8,3 mm against E. coli, and 12,0 mm and 11,0 mm against S. aureus. At the lowest concentration of the extracts, the leaves extracts showed the strongest activity against E. coli (14,3 mm) while the steam extracts showed highest inhibitory activity against S. aureus ( 7,7 mm). Based on antimicrobial assay, it was suggested that the leaves extracts demonstrated strongest activity than other extracts. It was assumed that leaves extracts contained more secondary metabolite than flowers and steams, and the leaves have phenol compounds which are not present in other extracts.

Abstract

The present study was done to determine the cytotoxic potential of n-hexane extract of Calotropis gigantea L. leaves and its fractions. Here, dried leaves of C. gigantea L. were macerated using n-hexane to obtain crude extract of 21.16 g (1.03%). The components of n-hexane extract of C. gigantea L. leaves were separated with vacuum-liquid chromatography resulted 4 fractions which are A (0.5 g), B (0.9g), C (5.29 g), and D (6.25 g). Phytochemical screening indicated that the extract contained various secondary metabolic compounds such as steroids, terpenoids, saponins, flavonoids, coumarins, and phenolics. Cytotoxic potenital of the crude extract of C. gigantea L. and its fractions was examined using brine shrimp lethality test (BSLT). The LC50 values of C. gigantea’s n-hexane extract and its fractions that determined by Finney method were 272.27 (n-hexane extract), 31.62 (fraction A), 43.65 (fraction B), 33.89 (fraction C) and 20.98 (fraction D) ?g/mL, respectively. The most active was D fraction contained terpenoids, flavonoids, and phenolics which were assumed contribute to its cytotoxic potential. These results suggested that n-fraction of C. gigantea might possess antitumor or pesticidal activities..

Abstract

Tiga senyawa turunan flavan-3-ol, yakni afzelekin-3-O-a-L-ramnosida (1), katekin (2), dan afzelekin (3), telah ditemukan pada kulit batang dan kulit akar tumbuhan Artocarpus reticulatus Miq. (Moraceae), suatu tumbuhan langka yang berasal dari Sulawesi dan endemik untuk Indonesia, serta dikenal dengan nama daerah maumbi. Struktur molekul ketiga senyawa tersebut telah ditetapkan berdasarkan data fisika dan spektroskopi. Three Flavan-3-ols from Artocarpus reticulatesThree flavan-3-ol derivatives, namely afzelechin-3-O-α-L-rhamnoside (1), catechin (2) and afzelechin (3), were isolated from the tree and the root barks of Artocarpus reticulaltus Miq. (Moraceae), a rare species found in Sulawesi and endemic to lndonesia, locally known as maumbi. The structures of all these compounds were elucidated based on physical and spectroscopic data.

Abstract

Abstrak : Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk menghasilkan produk souvenir khas kota Sabang melalui program pelatihan KKN-PPM. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di lima desa dari dua kecamatan di kota Sabang, yakni kecamatan Sukajaya dan Sukakarya. Sasaran dari kegiatan pelatihan ini adalah ibu-ibu rumah tangga, murid sekolah dan remaja putri desa setempat, sebagai usaha untuk meningkatkan perekonomian masyarakat setempat dengan cara memanfaatkanrotan sebagai sumber daya alamnya. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah produk souvenir menarik yang bercirikan kota Sabang sebagai kota bahari, seperti topi dan tikar pantai. Keberhasilan kegiatan ini dapat dilihat dari hasil penjualan produk pelatihan yang dilakukan di desa Iboih sebagai pusat wisata kota Sabang. Tersedianya souvenir khas Sabang ini akan semakin memikat para wisatawan untuk datang ke Sabang sehingga memberi efek positif terhadap ekonomi keluarga. Kata Kunci: Sabang, rotan, souvenir, KKN-PPM dan bahari
