Abstract

One of the causes of students’ low in comprehending concepts in learning mathematics is the teacher centered teaching method. One alternative that can be proposed to solve the problem is by employing contextual learning approach through TPS-Berempat cooperative learning. This study therefore aimed at figuring out whether the students’ concept which was taught by  TPS-Berempat cooperative learning model is better than that by the conventional one and whether the components of the model existed. The participants of the research were the seventh grade students of SMP N 20 Padang in 2009/2010 academic year. Quasi Experimental method using Posttest Control Group Design was employed. Experimental group was treated by using contextual learning approach while the control one by using conventional. The data was taken from achievement test. The result of the analysis showed that the components of the contextual learning appeared well and students’ comprehension toward the concept which was taught by contextual learning in mathematics was better than that of by the conventional one. Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the allocation of projects to be implemented by the Department of Road Infrastructure Pripinsi West Sumatra in 2005, so the cost minimum. The method used is the method of Branch And Bound together with the simplex method with a solution in the form of binary integer program .. By this method it was found that all the variables that represent each project is worth the cost of the current minimum, so that the entire project could be done with minimum total cost is Rp 17,789,289,600.00. This is in accordance with the reality on the ground that all projects can be realized by the Department of Road Infrastructure West Sumatra province.Key words: branch and bound method, simpleks method, integer biner

Abstract

This research was motivated by a fact that some of students of mathematics study program at STAIN Batusangkar have low ability in mathematics communication and mathematics disposition on Geometry subject. This is indicated by the students’ inability to answer the questions on mathematics communication. In order to solve this problem, the researcher designed a research on learning strategy using Problem-based in Geometry subject. This research applied experimental method using randomized control group only design. The population of this research was the third semester students registered in 2014/2015 academic year. They consisted of three classes. The data were taken from the final test of each sample. The research findings show that the two hypotheses were accepted. Therefore, students’ ability was better in mathematics communication by applying learning strategy using problem-based than conventional learning. In addition to this, students’ ability was better in mathematics disposition by using learning strategy using problem-based than conventional learning.Kata kunci:    Kemampuan komunikasi, disposisi matematis, dan strategi pembelajaran berbasis masalah

Abstract

This research was inspired from the result of a research under the title: “Analisis kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis mahassiswa program studi tadris matematika.” This research was done to know and describe how was the students’ ability to solve mathematic probelm as math teacher candidate in Geometri Transformasi subject registered in 2012/2013 academic year of Mathematic department of Tarbiyah Faculty of STAIN Batusangkar. The design of this research was the combination of quantitative and qualitative by using descriptive approach. The instrument of this research was test and interview. The data was analyzed through data triangulation, data reduction, data presentation, and making conclusion. The result of the research showed that the students’ ability from high group was very satisfactory. The students’ ability from avarage group was satisfactory. And, the students’ ability from low group was almost satisfactory.Kata kunci: Kemampuan pemecahan masalah, matematis

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low mathematical representation ability of students in solving mathematical problem solving questions based on TIMSS data and facts in the field. The study aims to analyze the mathematical representation ability of MTsN Batusangkar students visually, verbally and symbolically in solving mathematical problem solving problems. This field research uses descriptive method. The instrument used is a description question and interview guide. Quantitative data based on test results were analyzed to determine the predicate of mathematical representation ability, while Miles and Huberman model wwas used to analyze qualitative data from interviews. The results show that students' mathematical visual and symbolic abilities are satisfactory, while verbal mathematical representations are less satisfactory.
