Abstract

The extract of root nodules Vigna radiata (rnVr) which inoculated by Rhizobium is considered beneficial as an orally available anemia therapeutic candidate, because it contain the leghemoglobin. The positive control mice (group I) were fed with the high nutrient pellet.The twelve mice (Mus musculus) was treated with the “taking rice pellet” that representing the low nutrient food for 21 days until they suffered anemia. Then, the anemia mice were treated orally with rnVr in different concentration groups:II. 0% III.33%; IV.67% and V.100%, respectively and fed with the “aking rice pellet”. After 14 days, the blood mice were collected from orbital sinus. The hemoglobin (Hb) concentration were analyzed by spectrophotometry and blood plasma profile protein were analyzed with electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). All anemia mice that treated with rnVr showed the increasing of Hb and group that treated with 100% extract of rnVr could reach a normal Hb value, raising from 9.85 to 12.68 g/dL. There were observed the proteins which have molecule weight 36.5 and 35.7 kDa that indicated the existing erythropoietin. The increasing haemoglobin concentration and erythropoietin suggested if extract of rnVr could increasing red blood production and potential as an orally available anemia therapeutic candidate.

Abstract

ABSTRACTSalinity (salt stress) is one of the different causes of decline in crop yields and productivity of sugarcane. One strategy for optimizing the production of sugarcane on saline land required tolerant varieties of salinity. This research was conducted to determine NaCl concentration that caused more than > 90% callus death on sugarcane (S officinarum) tissue culture and to investigate the protein profile of sugarcane callus BL and PS-862 varieties on saline (NaCl) stress condition. Sugarcane BL and PS-862 varieties were obtained from tissue culture. and those callus were sub-cultured in salinity media with composition of MS (Murashige-Skoog) as base medium and NaCl in various concentration (0%; 0.25%; 0.5%; 0.75%; and 1%). The results showed condition of NaCl addition on media by 1% concentration cause alteration on morphology of callus that 75% part of whole tissues become dark brown coloured that indicating the tissues death. At four weeks after sub-culture, the calli on both varieties obtain score 4. Lethal percentage of both varieties BL and PS-862 in 1% NaCl was 91,67%. This result were supported by protein profile analysis. that a thinner protein band in 1% NaCl treatment compared with control. This is indicating that in salinity stress causing the decrement of protein expression.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menurunkan kandungan logam berat dan meningkatkan kualitas sludge limbah industri dengan menerapkan peran mikoriza arbuskula, sehingga dapat menjadi alternatif media tanam bagi tanaman. Hasil penelitian ini adalah: (1) kandungan logam berat dalam media tanam yang terdiri atas kombinasi sludge dan tanah taman mengalami penurunan setelah perlakuan dengan penanaman jarak pagar (Jatropha curcas L.) yang berasosiasi dengan mikoriza arbuskula. (2) Pertumbuhan tanaman jarak pagar yang ditunjukkan oleh tinggi, luas daun dan berat kering, menunjukkan kecenderungan yang semakin kecil atau semakin terhambat dengan semakin besarnya perbandingan sludge terhadap tanah taman tanpa infeksi mikorhiza. Sebaliknya, dengan semakin kecilnya perbandingan sludge dengan tanah taman yang diinfeksi mikorhiza, semakin meningkat pula pertumbuhan tanaman.
