Abstract

This study aims to know the effect of estrus synchronization using ovsynch method on local cow pregnancy rate. This study used 10 local cows without pregnant status and clinically healthy. All cows were divided into 2 treatment groups. Cows in group I (K1) were synchronized estrus using 5 mg/ml PgF2α intramuscularly with multiple injection patterns with intervals of 10 days. Group II (KII) was synchronized by ovsynch protocol, initiated with injection of 1ml GnRH on day-0. On the 7th day, the whole cows in K II were injected with 2 ml PgF2α then followed by re-injected with 1 ml of GnRH on the 9th day. Artificial insemination was performed 24 hours after GnRH last injection. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that 3 cows in group I were diagnosed pregnant (60%), whereas in group II, 4 cows werediagnosed pregnant (80%). In conclusion, the estrus synchronization with ovsynch protocols provide a higher pregnancy rate than the conventional estrus synchronization.Key words: synchronization, ovsynch, GnRH, PgF2α

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using ketamine-xylazin and propofol on heart rate and breathing in local male dogs (Canis familiaris). Six male dogs with average body weight ±2-3 kg were divided into 2 treatment groups, each group was subcutaneously injected with of atropine sulfate at dose of 0.04 mg/kg as premedication prior to anesthetic administration. The first group (K1) was intravenously injected with anesthetic combination of ketamine-xylazine at dose of 5.5 mg/kg and 1 mg/kg, respectively. The second group (K2) was given propofol at dose of 6.6 mg/kg intravenously. The heart rate and breathing were directly calculated using stethoscope and stopwatch with 10 minutes interval. Data were analyzed statistically using analysis of variance (Anova) with split-splot design and if there is a difference between the two groups followed by least significant difference test (LSD). The administration of ketamine-xylazin (K I) significantly (P<0.05) increase the respiratory frequency compared to propofol administration (K2). The interaction between time and precise observation of K1 and K2 on 30 minute observation (W3) showed significant differences (P<0.05). While on other time observations did not reveal any differences in the interaction between time and observation (P>0.05). It can be concluded that there is no difference effects of given ketamine-xylazin and propofol against heart rate on local male dogs. But there was difference effect of administration ketamine-xylazin and propofol on respiratory frequency on local male dogs.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to compare estrous performance between kacang and PE goats after estrous inducted with PGF2 alpha (PGF2α). Fifteen female goats were used in this study and divided into two groups. Characteristics of goat used are clinically healthy, never giving birth, 1,5-3,0 years of age, and have undergone at least two times the regular cycle. Group I (KI) consisted of 10 kacang goats and group II (KII) consisted of 5 PE goats. All goats in both groups were estrous synchronized with 1 ml PGF2a intramuscularly. Estrous observation was done visually three times a day at 8 a.m., 12 p.m., and 4 p.m. Assessment of estrous intensity based on scoring method. The data of intensity and onset were analyzed by Mann Whitney test and estrous duration analyzed by t test. The result showed that intensity, onset, and duration of estrous in KI vs KII were 2.47±0.21 vs 2.25±0.00, 38.20±2.39 vs 84.40±8.53 hours, and 40.40±2.27 vs 46.40±4.56 hours respectively. It concluded that there was different estrous performance between kacang and PE goats following estrous synchronized with PGF2α.

Abstract

This study was aimed to determine effect of bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides) leaf extract on the carcass weight and abdominal fat of broiler. A total of 15 chicken with the age of twenty five days old were used in this study and allotted into 3 groups with 5 chickens per groups. Broiler in group P0 (as a control) were not given bandotan leaf extract, whereas broiler in group 1 (P1) and group 2 (P2) was given 3 ml and 5 ml of bandotan leaf extract, respectively. The extract was orally given once daily for 5 consecutive days. Results of analysis of variance (Anova) showed that bandotan leaf extract did not significantly (P>0.05) affect carcass weight and abdominal fat of broiler. The average percentage of carcass weight in groups P0, P1, dan P2 were 73.30±3.54, 71.80±3.06, and 70.33±9.18%, respectively and the average percentage of abdominal fat in group P0, P1, dan P2 were 1.99±0.68, 2.30±0.46, amd 1.96±0.18%, respectively. Based on these results it can be concluded that bandotan leaf extract could not increase carcass weight and reduce abdominal fat of broilers.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to isolate and identify Aeromonas sp from pet shops in Banda Aceh. A total of 15 goldfish were obtained from 3 pet shop in Banda Aceh and examined at the Laboratory of Microbiology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Syiah Kuala in Banda Aceh. Isolation of bacteria obtained from liver, kidneys and spleen were cultured in the media Rimler-Shotts (RS) Medium Base. The bacteria were identified based on morphology of the growing bacteria, Gram stain, IMViC test, and biochemical tests. The results showed that there were no Aeromonas sp in goldfish (Carrasius auratus) from three pet shops in Banda Aceh.

Abstract

Domestical catfish is grouped into omnivora, although the fish is tended into carnivora.  The aim of the present study was to investigate histology of alimentary tract of domestical catfish (Clarias batrachus). In order to determine alimentary tract of domestical catfish, oesophagus, gastric and intestines is investigated by Haematoxilin Eosin. Histology exploration was performed each layer of alimentary tract?s wall consist of lamina epithelia, propria, and muscularis mucosa. Collagen connective tissue was developed tunica submucosa. The muscle of tunica muscularis was performed circular and elongated. Dense connective tissue and blood vessels was located in the tunica serosa. Histology exploration revealed has stratified squamous epithelium, mucosit cells, eosinophilic club cells on the lamina epithelia, and taste buds on the lamina propria in oesophagus. Gastric was establised simple prismatic cells, and glands of gastric on the lamina propria. Furthermore intestine was showed villi and goblet cells. There were not showed Brunner and Liberkhun gland. In conclusion, histology of alimentary tract was revealed from tunica mucosa, submucosa, and serosa.
