Abstract

The process of degeneration in the elderly less acurate results in height measurement, which has an impact on BMI calculation. Julia Pertiwi created a formula to measure elderly?s height by combining knee height and arm span for Javanese community. The purpose of this study was to determine the compatibility of elderly?s height predictor dan Body Mass Index measurements based on knee height and arm span. This quantitative study used a cross-sectional design. Height was measured by stadiometer, weight by digital scales, knee height by Knee Height Caliper, and arm span by measuring tape. Comparison were conducted through Anova and Kruskal-Wallis tests. This study was conducted on Javanese community in Sambiroto village, Semarang. Fifty two subjects, 18 men and 34 women were aged 60 yeares and over, stand up straightly, and Javanese. Exclusion criteria were hunchback, disability, stiff joints, tremor, fracture, and arm span deformities. The results showed that there was no difference actual height and BMI based on actual height with height and BMI based on Fatmah?s formula (knee height and arm span), Julia?s formula, and Chumlea?s formula on men. There was difference height and BMI based on actual height with height and BMI based on Fatmah?s formula (knee height and arm span), Julia?s formula, and Chumlea?s formula on women. Conclusion: there was a suitability of elderly?s height predictor and BMI measurements based on knee height and arm span. The Fatmah?s formula based on arm span was the best formula for calculating height and BMI on men, and Julia?s formula was the best formula for women, because these formulas had closest results with height and BMI based on actual height. Suggestions for the next researcher should increase the number of samples and be carried out in different ethnicities.

Abstract

High intake of saturated fat, sodium and low intake of calcium and magnesium can increase blood pressure. The prevalence of hypertension at Wening Wardoyo Elderly Social Service House, Ungaran was quite high (25.5% had systolic hypertension). The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlations between energy intake, macro, and micronutrients and blood pressure on elderly at Wening Wardoyo Elderly Social Service House, Ungaran. This study was an explanatory research with a cross-sectional design. Subjects in this study were 26 elderly men and women, aged 60-90 years old, who were chosen by purposive sampling technique. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure was measured by the researchers using a digital tensimeter. Data collection on food intake was conducted by Food Weighing, which then were processed by nutrisurvey. Data analysis was done using Pearson Product Moment correlation test. The results showed that 26.9% of respondents had systolic prehypertension, 19.2% of them were in the first phase, 23.1% had diastolic prehypertension, and 3.8% had diastolic hypertension at the first phase. Among respondents, 69.9% had moderate energy intake, 88.5% of respondents had excessive saturated fat intake, and 88.5% of respondents had lack intake of magnesium. All respondents had a low sodium intake, as well as a reduced intake of calcium. There was a correlation between saturated fat intake with systolic (r=0.758; p=0.003) and diastolic (r=0.856; p=0.001) blood pressures. There was no correlation between the energy adequacy level, sodium intake, calcium intake and magnesium intake with systolic and diastolic blood pressure. It recommended for the institution administrators to arrange the new menu by reducing high saturated fat foods.

Abstract

Malnutrition is the most important problem because of the direct impact to growth retardation. Inadequate nutritional intake in toddler particularly in 24-59 months will lead to growth retardation. The aim of this research was to analyze factors affecting toddler?s nutritional status in inner child?s tribe in Pematang Kabau Health Center, Sarolangun Regency, Jambi. This was a quantitative research with cross sectional design. Population of this research were mothers of inner child?s tribe in Pematang Kabau Health Center, Sarolangun Regency in total of 40 people. Sampling technic of this research was using purposive sampling of the total population. Data was analyzed using Rank Spearman. Results of this research showed that most of the toddler?s nutritional status was Good (70%). Mother?s knowledge was classified as good (57,5%), toddlers who were taboo of eggs and livestock were 37,5%. Most toddlers had a big family (92,5%). Most toddlers had adequate energy intake (72,5%) and adequate protein intake (65%). Toddlers who had infectional disease were 60%. There were a significant correlation between toddler?s nutritional status in inner child?s tribe with food taboo (p=0,001), energy intake (p=0,001), protein intake (p=0,001) and infectional disease (p=0,007). Otherwise, mother?s knowledge and number of family members had no significant correlation with toddler?s nutritional status in inner child?s tribe. It is necessery for the health center to monitor toddler?s nutritional status periodically. Especially for inner child?s tribe whose nutritional status is good to keep maintaining them. Mothers could be involved in Integrated Service Posts as Cadres so they could share their knowledge to other mothers.

Abstract

Stunting is a failure in children under five years due to chronic malnutrition so that children are too short of the WHO 2005 standard height, that is the z-score is less than -2SD or -3SD. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors for the incidence of stunting in infants aged 24-59 months in the working area of Cepu Health Center, Blora Regency. This study uses observational analytic studies with case control methods. The sample used was 76 toddlers consisting of 38 cases and 38 controls. The research instrument used was the method of recalling 2 x 24 hours of nutritional consumption and assisted with a list of URT to estimate the weight of food in grams. Data analysis using chi-square test. The results showed that the lack of level of energy sufficiency (OR=5,318, CI=1,997?14,163), the lack of maternal nutritional knowledge (OR=4,720, CI=1,790?12,450) and low family income per capita (OR= 5,385, CI=2,011?14,421) is a risk factor for the incidence of stunting in infants. Other factors in this study such as lack of protein adequacy (CI=0.167?1.928), history of low birth weight (LBW) (CI=0.318?5.219), history of ASI is not exclusive (CI=362?0,597), maternal education (CI= 0,315?31,946) and working mothers (CI=688?4,474) are not risk factors for stunting. Per capita family income is a risk factor that most influences the incidence of stunting in this study. It is expected that the Cepu Health Center can improve the nutritional knowledge of mothers and provide adequate energy nutritious food assistance, mothers under five provide the right nutrition according to the Nutrition Adequacy Rate of children under five, and the head of the family increases the income per capita of the family.

Abstract

People with HIV-AIDS (known as ODHA in Indonesia) have decreased immune system continuously accompanied by worsening their nutritional condition stated in the Body Mass Index (IMT). Guava leaves contain flavonoids, tannins 17.4%, phenolics 575.3 mg / g, and essential oils. Guava leaf is another alternative as a source of antioxidants derived from compounds contained in guava leaves. The purpose of this study to analyze the effect of guava leaf extract to IMT on PLWHA in Arjuna Plus KDS Semarang.There by Quasi Experimental with Non Equivalent Control Group Design is used. Two groups are conducted for this study. The first is the control group without any guava leaf extract supplement, while the second group (intervention group) is given one capsule of guava leaf extract supplement/day during 20 days. 25 Respondents for each group were chosen by purposive sampling technic and have to meet its criteria. Respondents? nutritional status are measured by body mass index and 24 hours recall of their daily nutritional intake. Different tests using Mann Whitney, Independent T-test, and Dependent T-test. The results showed no significant difference of IMT changes between the two groups (p = 0.182) but an increase in BMI by 0.07 ± 0.48 in the intervention group. IMT changes did not rise 72% in the control group and 48% in the intervention group. Factors that can not be controlled in this study is the length of a person suffering from HIV.

Abstract

Background : Anemia is one of the most prevalent nutrition problems. Based on a national survey in 1995, the prevalence of anemia was 57.1% among adolescent girls in Indonesia. Adolescent girls have higher risk of anemia compared to the schoolchildren and adults as they are still in the period of rapid growing, while they also start to think about body image. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the determinants of anemia among adolescent girls in Kecamatan Gebog, Kabupaten Kudus. Method : This observational study was conducted cross sectionally by survey method. The population was adolescent girls aged 13-18 years, with a total sample of 163 girls who were chosen from the adolescent girls in four villages by multistage random sampling method. Data were analysed by Rank Spearman correlation and Chi Square test, which then continued to multivariate analysis by logistic regression test (forward method). Result : The results showed that the prevalence of anemia among adolescent girls in Kecamatan Gebog, Kabupaten Kudus was 36.8%. The correlation tests showed that there were associations between parents? education level, family income, adolescents? knowledge and attitude toward anemia and food consumption levels (energy, protein, iron, vitamin A and C). Conclusion : There were correlations between food consumption levels (energy, protein, iron, vitamin A and C), menstruation pattern, infection incidence and anemia incidence (p<0.05). The determinants of anemia among adolescent girls in Kecamatan Gebog, Kabupaten Kudus were energy, iron, vitamin A consumption levels, menstruation pattern and infection incidence. Abstract

Physical activity are at great risk of decreasing bone density. Office workers are among the groups at risk of decreasing bone density due to the assumption of less varied food consumption and low levels of physical activity. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between food consumption, nutritional status, and physical activity with bone density of educational staff in Faculty of Public Health Diponegoro University. This research is a type of quantitative research using cross sectional study design. Population in this research counted 78 people and research sample counted 38 people. Sampling technique in this study using simple random sampling. The results showed that bone density with less category (92.1% of respondents), nutritional status with obesity category I (78.9% respondent), energy consumption level with more category (60,5% respondent), carbohydrate consumption level with more category (42,1% respondents), consumption level of protein with light deficit category (55,3% respondent), level of fat consumption with enough category (47,4% respondent), calcium consumption level with moderate deficit category (42,1% respondents), phosphorus consumption rate with severe deficit category (65.8% respondents), frequency of caffeine consumption with rare category (76.3% respondents), and the level of physical activity with light category (92.1% of respondents). Rank Spearman correlation test showed that there was correlation between nutritional status variable with bone density in male respondents (p value = 0.001) while the other four variables (calcium consumption level, phosphorus consumption level, frequency of caffeine consumption and physical activity) were not related to bone density with p value = 0.411, 0.345, 0.561, and 0.632. The result of correlation test on female respondents showed that there were no variables related to bone density with p value = 0,069, 0,570, 0,318, 0,628 and 0,826. This study recommends respondents to eat with variety types of foods and increase physical activity.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) children in various countries including Indonesia is inseparable from the emergence of nutritional problems that can affect the nutritional status of ASD children.The aim of this research was to knowing the correlation of eating pattern with nutritional status of ASD children grade I ? VI in SLB Negeri Semarang. This type of research is quantitative research using cross sectional approach. The population and the sample in this study were 31 children of ASD selected with purposive sampling method. Data were analyzed using Pearson, Rank Spearman, and Chi-Square tests. The results of this study indicate most children of ASD in overweight (25.8%) and obese (29%). Most history of father (35,5%) and mother's (38,7%) nutritional status were normal. Frequency of food carbohydrate consumptions (48,4%), protein (48,4%), and fat (58,1%) included in ?medium? category. The level of consumptions of energy (45,2%), protein (54,8%), and fat (45,2%) at most included in "less" category. Most children didn?t have a history of diarrheal infections (93,5%) and URI (96,8%). There were correlation between frequency of food consumptions of fat (p = 0,001) and protein consumption?s  level (p = 0,047) with ASD child nutritional status. There were no correlation between age (p = 0,235), gender p = 0,081), history of father's nutritional status (p = 0,764) and mother (p = 0,715), frequency of food consumption of carbohydrate source (p = 0,556) and protein (p = 0,477), energy consumption?s level (p = 0,595), fat consumption?s level (p = 0,833), history of diarrhea infection (p = 0,196) and ISPA (p = 0,452) with ASD child nutritional status. It was sugested for parents to apply a diverse and healthy eating patterns for ASD children to reduce the risk of overweight.

Abstract

Hypertension in pregnancy have an impact on maternal and child mortality which can be prevented by intake of antioxidants (flavonoids), one of which is sourced from soy milk. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of soy milk consumption against systolic and diastolic blood pressure in pregnant women. This research was Quasi Experimental with pretest-posttest control group design. The population were pregnant women in the work area of Tlogosari Wetan Health Center Semarang about 300 peoples. Samples selected purposively amount 17 people for each group. The intervention group was given 200 ml of soy milk per day for 14 days. The instruments used in this study were structured questionnaires, food recall 24 hours form with repetition, aneroid spygmomanometer, and MUAC tape. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and Mann Whitney. The results have shown there were no differences in the characteristic of respondent (age, gravidity, educational level, ocuupational, income per capita, nutritional status, and nutrient intake) among groups. Systolic blood pressure before and after treatment in the two groups have significant differences, diastolic blood pressure before and after treatment differed only in the intervention group, whereas in the control group it didn?t. The decrease in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group was higher than control group, with 10.59 mmHg differences. There were significant differences in changes in systolic and diastolic blood pressure between the two groups (p <0.05). Suggestions from this study are pregnant women can maintain their blood pressure by consuming soy milk regularly.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: One of the impact of industrial development is the decreasing water quality that may cause pollution of living resources,especially the fish. The objective of this research is to determine the consentration of lead (Pb) Euthynnus sp. and to analize its  chemical safety in the coast  Semarang.  Methods:  This study  is a descriptif research with a cross sectional approach. The 30 samples of Euthynnus   was taken from the markets in Semarang City, including  Jatingaleh, Peterongan, Bulu, Johar, dan Rejomulyo market. Results:  The finding of this research showed that the highest  Lead consentration in Euthynnus Sp was 2,51 ppm and the lowest was  0 ppm  with the average of  0,81 ppm  and the standard deviation was  0,91 ppm.   There was 33,3 % sample which has the concentration of Lead  more than the maximum standard. Conclusion: It was suggested to choose the fresh fish to consumed by considering the site of fish catching. It is also suggested to  the government and  the related institution in semarang City to make a regulation and policy to protect the consumer from the toxic effect of heavy metal in fish.   Key word : Euthynnus sp., heavy metal (Lead),  Coast of Semarang
