Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of tannin-protected protein source feed to livestock productivitybased on its influence on methane production, Volatile fatty acids (VFA) production, and blood glucose inthe use of tannin-protected protein on complete feed in thin-tailed ram. The study uses thin-tailed ramaged about 8 months, as many as 16 rams with body weight of 11.81±1.65 kg. The researchusesa completerandomized design(CRD) withfour treatmentsandfourreplications. The treatments areP0:15% soybeanmeals without tannin protection in complete feed, P1:15% soybean meals with 0.5% tannin protection incomplete feed, P2:15% soybean meals with 1% tannin protection in complete feed and P3:15% soybeanmeals with 1.5% tannin protection in complete feed. The results indicates that administration of tanninsin soybean meal in complete feed showed significant effect (P <0.05) on blood glucose, the production ofpropionic acid in the 3rd hour, but the VFA production at hour 0, hour 6, as well as methane productionshowed no significant effect (P> 0.05). The conclusion is that 15% protected soybean meal with 1% oftannin in the complete feed is able to contribute to the proportion of propionate and contribute to increasedblood glucose on a thin-tailed ram but can not to reduce methane production.

Abstract

The aim of this study were to evaluate the effect of tannin concentration in protein protection ofsoybean meal and its influence on the change of body composition with urea space method (estimation)and cutting (direct). Sixteen male thin tail rams of eight month old with an average body weight of 11.81±1.65kg were used in this study. Treatment Groups of different tannin level were allotted according to a completelyrandomized design with four replicates for each treatment. The treatmen groups were T0 (complete feed +soybean meal not protected), T1 (complete feed + tannins protected soybean meal 0.5%), T2 (complete feed+ tannins protected soybean meal 1%), and T3 (complete feed + tannins protected soybean meal 1.5%).The treatment was performed in 10 weeks. However, In the week 0, fifth and tenth the rams body compositionwere measured with urea space technique. Result of the study showed that the feeding protected proteinwith different tannin levels did not significantly influence (P> 0.05) body composition of the samples. Theaverage content of body composition measured with the urea space method for body water, body proteinand body fat were 58.53%, 11.01%, and 20.74% respectively. Where as, the body composition measurementafter slaughtered for the body water, body protein and body fat were 3.08 kg, 0.50 kg and 0.89 kg respectively.The average increase of body protein and body fat that occurred during the 10-week study period were 0.37kg and 0.51 kg respectively. Based on these results it can be concluded that feeding protected proteincontained with tannin up to 1.5% may not be able to improve body composition of thin tail rams.

Abstract

In broad perspective, meat contains many essential nutrients such as protein, fat, minerals, carbohydrates (minor amount) and water. The existence of these nutrients render meat not only as a nutritious food, but also potential as a media for bacterial growth, so that it needs to be further processed. One of the methods to process meat is by soaking the meat in a marinade solution (marination). There are three treatments that maybe performed on meat in the marination system. The first method is using phosphate salt solution to enhance the water holding capacity. The second method is utilizing the acidic salt solution or organic acids to soften the meat and control the bacteria growth. The third method is using spicy solution that can be combined with sugar, salt (NaCl) and organic acids to improve the physical performance and taste of meat as well as to control the growth of bacteria. It is concluded that marination of meat could increase physical, chemical, microbiological properties and sensory. Key words: Marination, meat, safety

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membandingkan kondisi fisiologis domba lokal jantan yang diberian pakan pada siang dan malam hari.Materi penelitian berupa 12 ekor dombalokal dengan bobot badan rata-rata 24,12+ 2,5 kg (CV=10,51%) dan umur ± 1 tahun. Pakan yang diberikan berupa complete feedberbentuk pelet dengan PK 16,6%dan TDN 67,36%.Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap dengan 3 perlakuan (T1: pemberian pakan jam 6 pagi sampai jam 6 sore, T2: jam 6 sore sampai jam 6 pagi dan T3: selama 24 jam) dan 4 ulangan.Parameter yang diamati adalah konsumsi bahan kering(BK), pertambahan bobot badan harian (PBBH), dan fisiologis domba.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan pemberian pakan dengan waktu yang berbedatidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) terhadap konsumsi BK, PBBH, frekuensi nafas dan temperatur rektal dengan rataan 1.058,23 g/hari,73 g/hari, 82 kali/menit dan 38,90C. Akan tetapi denyut nadi mengalami perbedaan yang nyata(P<0,05) antara T2 (93 kali/menit) dengan (T1 103 kali/menit) dan T3 (111 kali/menit).Simpulan penelitian ini adalah pemberian pakan siang, malam, dan siang malam hari pada domba lokaljantan terhadap konsumsi BK, PBBH, frekuensi nafas dan temperatur rektal relatif sama, tetapi  T2 memiliki rataan denyut nadi yang lebih rendah dari pada T1 dan T3. Kata kunci : Domba lokal jantan;konsumsi BK; PBBH; fisiologis domba ABSTRACT This study was aimed to evaluate the physiological response of local ram fed at day and night time. Material used was 12 one year old rams with average body weight of 24.12 ±2.5 kg. The feed was given in form of pelleted complete feeding formulated to give 16.6% CP and 67.36% TDN. This study was done based on completely randomized design with 3 treatments were feed given at 06.00-18.00 (12 hours; day feeding = T1), feed given at 18.00-06.00 (12 hours; night feeding = T2) and feed given at 06.00-06.00 (24 hours; day and night feeding = T3) and 4 replications.The feeding time treatments Parameters observed were dry matter intake (DMI), average daily again (ADG) and animal physiological responses. The result showed that feeding time among day, night and day-night was similar (P>0.05) for DMI, ADG, breathing frequency and rectal temperature with average 1.058,23 g/day,73 g/day, 82 time per minute and 38,90C, but significantly different (P<0.05) between T2 93time per minute with T1 103 time per minuteand T3 111time per minuteon pulse.The conclusion could be drawn from this study was feeding time (day, night and day-night) hadno effect on DMI, ADG and physiological responses, except T2 had the average pulse rate lower that T1 and T3.   Key words :   Local ram; DMI; ADG;physiological response

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk untuk mengkaji perbedaan produksi pada kambing yang dipelihara pada ketinggian yang berbeda di Kabupaten Kendal berdasarkan dari status mineral Fe dan Mn dengan mengamati kandungan pada tanah, air, pakan dan serum darah kambing. Pengambilan sampel tanah, air minum, pakan dan serum kambing dilakukan di kedua kecamatan yaitu Kecamatan Patebon dengan ketinggian + 4 m dpl dan Kecamatan Sukorejo + 1000 m dpl. Sampel darah berasal 30 ekor kambing dengan umur + 1 tahun yang tiap wilayahnya masing ? masing 15 ekor. Pengambilan sampel pakan, tanah dan air minum dilakukan di daerah pemeliharaan kambing. Kadar mineral Fe dan Mn  dianalisis dengan menggunakan alat atomic absorbance spectrophotometer (AAS). Data data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji-t untuk mengatahui perbedaan yang terdapat pada dataran tinggi dan dataran rendah. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kandungan Fe dan Mn pada serum kambing di dataran tinggi dengan dataran rendah tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05). Status mineral Fe kambing di dataran tinggi lebih tinggi dan dataran rendah mengalami defiseinsi. Status mineral Mn di kedua wilayah sudah tercukupi.Kata kunci : zat besi; mangan; kambing; dataran tinggi; dataran rendah  ABSTRACT             The aim of this research was to study the mineral Fe and Mn status of the goats in the upland and lowland areas of Kendal Regency, by observing the Fe and Mn contents in soil, water, feed, and goats blood serum. Samples of soil, water, and feeds were taken in the upland area in District of Sukorejo (+ 1000 m above sea level) and lowland area in District of Patebon (+ 4 m above sea level). Samples of blood serum were taken from 30 goats (+ 1 year old) namely 15 goats in the upland and 15 goats in the lowland area. Mineral Fe and Mn concentrations of samples were analysed using atomic absorbance spectrophotometer (AAS). The data were analysed using t-test. The result of this research showed that there were no difference between Fe and Mn concentration of goat serum in the upland and lowland area. Mineral Fe status of the goats in upland area and lowland area were deficient. Mn status in both area was enough for daily needs of goatKeyword : iron; manganese; goats; upland; lowland

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji jumlah kreatinin pada sapi Madura yang diberi pakan dengan kandungantotal digestible nutrients(TDN) yang berbeda.Penelitian dilakukan di kandang Fakultas Peternakan dan Pertanian Universitas Diponegoro. Penelitian menggunakan sapi Madura jantan 12 ekor dengan bobot 153,75kg (CV= 7,78%). Jumlah bahan kering pakan diberikan 3% dari bobot badan sapi dengan pakan kasar menggunakan rumput gajah yang dikeringkan (hay) dan konsentrat terdiri dari bahan pakan dedak, pollard, bungkil kedelai dan gaplek.Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL).Perlakuan pakan yang diberikan memiliki protein kasar 14% dengan variasi TDN antara 50%; 60% dan 70%.Keluaran kreatinin pada pengambilan urin ke Itidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) sebesar 202,83 mg/hari, pada pengambilan urin ke II tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) sebesar 369,67 mg/hari dan pada pengambilan ke III tidak berbeda nyata (P>0,05) sebesar 415,31 mg/hari.Keluaran kreatinin berhubungan positif dengan bobot badan ternak.Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa kandungan TDN pakan tidak berpengaruh terhadap keluaran kreatinin sapi Madura jantan.Semakin tinggi bobot badan ternak, semakin tinggi keluaran kreatininnya.

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menduga bobot badan (BB) kambing Jawarandu betina melalui pengukuran lingkar dada (LD). Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kambing Jawarandu betina yang berumur 3-12 bulan sebanyak 25 ekor dan >12-48 bulan sebanyak 75 ekor. Pengambilan sampel kambing dilakukan dengan cara purposive sampling. Variabel yang diamati adalah bobot badan dan lingkar dada kambing Jawarandu betina. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan diperoleh angka korelasi (r) pada kelompok umur 3-12 bulan sebesar 0,840, pada kelompok umur >12-48 bulan sebesar 0,902 dan pada semua kelompok umur sebesar 0,938. Hasil korelasi antara lingkar dada dengan bobot badan diperoleh persamaan regresi linier untuk kambing Jawarandu betina kelompok umur 3-12 bulan BB = -22,500+0,693LD, pada kelompok umur >12-48 bulan BB = -47,523+1,109LD dan pada semua kelompok umur BB = -45,145+1,074LD. Persamaan regresi linier tersebut dapat digunakan untuk menduga bobot badan kambing Jawarandu betina yaitu pada semua kelompok umur dengan tingkat keakuratan sebesar 99,95%. Simpulan hasil penelitian ini yaitu persamaan regresi linier dengan variabel lingkar dada  dapat digunakan untuk menduga bobot badan kambing Jawarandu betina pada semua kelompok umur dengan akurat.Kata kunci : Bobot badan; Kambing Jawarandu; Lingkar dada ABSTRACT             This study was aimed to estimate the body weight of female Jawarandu goats based on the chest girth (CG) measurement. The materials used in this study were females Jawarandu goat aged 3-12 months and 12-48 months old as many as 25 and 75 heads, respectively. Goats were selected based on purposive sampling methods. The variables measured were body weight (BW) and CG of age group of goats. The results found that, the correlation (r) between CG and BW in the 3-12 month age group was 0.840, while in the age group >12-48 months was 0.902, while   for all age groups was 0,938 respectively. The correlation between CG and BW was formed in linear regression equations of BW (kg) = 0.693CG (cm) -22.500 for age of 3-12 months, and BW (kg)= 1.109CG (cm) - 47.523 for the age group of >12-48 months, and for all groups age was BW (kg) = 1.074CG(cm) -45.145. These linear regression equations could be used to estimate the body weight of the female Jawarandu goats in all age groups with the accuracy of 99.95%. Conclusion of this study was the linear regression equation with variable chest girth can be used to estimate the body weight of female Jawarandu goats in all age groups accurately.Keywords : Body weight, chest girth, Jawarandu goat.

Abstract

ABSTRAK. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui hubungan antara konsumsi serat kasar dan lemak kasar dengan total solid dan lemak susu kambing Peranakan Ettawa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dan purposive sampling. Sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah 35 ekor kambing Peranakan Ettawa dengan kriteria bulan laktasi 4-5, periode laktasi 2-3 dan frekuensi pemerahan 2 kali. Analisis data dilakukan menggunakan analisis regresi linier sederhana dan non linier kuadratik dan korelasi. Variabel bebas (variabel X) pada penelitian ini adalah konsumsi serat kasar dan lemak kasar, sedangkan variabel terikat (variabel Y) pada penelitian ini adalah total solid dan lemak susu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan linier positif yang lemah antara konsumsi serat kasar dengan total solid dan lemak susu (r = 0,185 dan r = 0,160). Hubungan antara konsumsi lemak kasar dengan total solid dan lemak susu pada penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya hubungan kuadratik yang lemah (r = 0,316 dan r = 0,320). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan yang lemah antara konsumsi serat kasar dan lemak kasar dengan total solid dan lemak susu. Semakin tinggi konsumsi serat kasar akan meningkatkan kandungan total solid dan lemak susu, tetapi konsumsi lemak kasar yang semakin tinggi tidak selalu meningkatkan kandungan total solid dan lemak susu.  (Correlations between crude fiber and crude fat intake with total solid and milk fat contents in ettawa crossbreed goat) ABSTRACT. This study was aimed to determine the correlations between crude fiber and crude fat intake with total solid and milk fat contents. Samples used in this study were 35 Ettawa Crossbreed goats with lactation month of 4-5, lactation period of 2-3 and twice daily milking. Simple linear regression and non linear quadratic regression analysis were used in this study with crude fiber and crude fat intake as independent variables (X), meanwhile total solid and milk fat as dependent variables (Y). Simple Linear Regression showed that there was low positive correlation between crude fiber with total solid and milk fat contents (r = 0,185 and r = 0,160). Moreover, Non Linear Quadratic Regression analysis showed that there was low quadratic correlation between crude fat intake with total solid and milk fat contents (r = 0,316 dan r = 0,320). In conclusion, there was a low correlation between crude fiber and crude fat intake with total solid and milk fat. High intake of crude fiber would increase total solid and milk fat contents, but high intake of crude fat would not increase total solid and milk fat contents.

Abstract

The present study was aimed to evaluate the use of ‘Lumpur-bahinol’ (sludge of alcohol industry) as feed for sheep on feed intake, daily gain, and feed conversion ratio. Twelve indigenous rams grouped into three consist of four were used in this study following Completely Randomized Design. Those rams were 8-10 months old, and average weight at 17,15 kg. The rams were raised in individual barn and were fed Napier grass ad libitum and commercial concentrate feed at 2% of body weight. The treatments were substitution of concentrate feed with ‘lumpur-bahinol’ in the rations at various level as follow, K5L0 (concentrate 2% BW+lumpur-bahinol 0% BW), K4L1 (Concentrate 1.6% BW+Lumpur-bahinol 0.4% BW) and K3L2 (concentrate 1.2% BW+Lumpur-bahinol 0.8% BW). These rations were adjusted to fulfill dry matter requirement at 4% BW. The result showed that inclusion of lumpur-bahinol in the ration tend to decrease total DMI (P=0.1105), being 815 and 809 g/d for K4L1 and K3L2m, respectively, compared to K5L0 (890 g/d). Similar tendency was observed in crude protein intake (P=0.1105), being 104,94 dan 92 g/d for K5L0, K4L1 and K3L2, respectively, as well as in gross energy intake (P=0.0999), being 13.3; 11.4 and 10.5 Mj/d, for K5L0, K4L1 and K3L2, respectively. This phenomena was in contrast with the digestibility that tend to increase (P=0.1056) as much as 0.96% (K4L1) and 2.80% (K3L2), respectively, compared to K5L0 (62.97%). Despite of feed intake tended to decrease as increasing lumpur-bahinol in concentrate, but the daily gain tend to be higher (P=0.1171) in K4L1 (65 g/d) and K3L2 (56 g/d) compared to K5L0 (53 g/d). Similar tendency was shown in feed conversion of K4L1 (12.5) and K3L2 (14.5) that better than of K5L0 (16.8). The conclusion of this study was lumpur-bahinol could be used to compose concentrate feeding up to 0.8% of body weight.

Abstract

The research aimed to assess the effect of vitamin B complex to the physiological, feed intake, and body weight recovery in Kacang goat after being transported. The materials used were 16 male Kacang goats which were divided into two age groups namely young and mature. The experimental design used in this research was a nested design two phases with two age groups, and Vitamin B complex nested at each age group which was given the feed without (T0) and with vitamin B complex (T1). Parameters observed were physiologic (heart rate, frequency of breathing and body temperature), feed intake and body weight gain. The results during transportation showed that the heart rate of T0 sheep was higher than of T1 (109 vs 96.5 beat/min; P<0.05), but the frequency of breathing and body temperature was not different (P>0.05) as well as physiologically between young and adult goats (P<0.05). The day required for recovery of heart rate, frequency of breathing, body temperature and feed consumption between the treatments were not different (P>0.05) as well as at between young and adult goats (P>0.05). Similar results were found in the day required for recovery of body weight in the T0 and T1, as well as in young and adult goats (P>0.05). The conclusion could be drawn from this study were vitamin B complex could reduce stress levels, but did not affect the day required for physiological recovery, feed intake and body weight in Kacang goats after 7 hours transportation. Keywords: Transportation, stress, Kacang goat, age, vitamin B Complex, recovery.
