Abstract

Creativity is part of 21st century skills so it needs to be had by students. Therefore, the study was conducted to identify the creativity of students who take Microbiology lectures on Traditional Biotechnology content with the Science-Technology-Religion-Engineering-Arts-Mathematics (STREAM) based learning. The pre-experimental method with one-shot case study design involved 43 students from 5th semester at one of university in Bandung determined purposively. Data were collected through student worksheets, product assessment sheets and scoring of practical reports. After being collected through instruments mentioned before, data were then processed using percentage and level of creativity skills in the product of their practical reports. The results of the study show that student creativity varies for each Traditional Biotechnology content. The results of the achievement of the highest values of creativity obtained by students on indicators of elaboration thinking with emerging levels and the lowest achievement with not yet evident levels in the originality thinking. STREAM-based learning can provide student creativity skills in Traditional Biotechnology content.

Abstract

Traditional Biotechnology Content as a Media in Engaging Students with System Thinking Skills. A study about how to engage students with System Thinking Skills as part of 21st century skills into Traditional Biotechnology content was conducted using Science-Technology-Religion-Engineering-Arts-Mathematics approach through one group pretest-posttest design. The study involved 43 students from 5th semester in one University determined purposively. Data were collected through system thinking test and interview format. After being collected through instruments mentioned before, data were then processed using percentage criterion n-gain on test and analyzed the result of student’s interview. Research results show 60.47% of n-gain (moderate) with the best achievement is in the ability to explain the function of each component, while the weakest achievement is in the ability to analyze the energy cycle. The result of the interview shows that the students are able to follow the lecture stages due to the repetitive and continuous assignment. The constraints found are in managing assignments within lecture time and less explored on religion aspects. Thus, Traditional Biotechnology content can facilitate students on system thinking skills.

Abstract

Proses pematangan pada buah ditandai dengan adanya perubahan karakteristik buah meliputi warna, aroma, tekstur dan rasa. Perubahan karakteristik buah tersebut salah satunya dipengaruhi oleh bakteri endofit yang dapat hidup berasosiasi dalam jaringan tanaman yang mampu menghasilkan enzim dan hormon tertentu sehingga dapat mengubah sifat kimia yang akan mempengaruhi sifat fisik suatu  buah. Penelitian mengenai bakteri endofit pada buah telah banyak dilakukan, namun bakteri endofit pada buah nanas belum diidentifikasi. Buah nanas kultivar Simadu dan Biasa merupakan buah nanas yang banyak dikonsumsi masyarakat dan diolah sebagai bahan baku industri makanan yang berasal dari Kabupaten Subang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaman jenis bakteri endofit pada kultivar nanas Simadu dan Biasa. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptif dan Identifikasi bakteri dengan menggunakan karakterisasi morfologi, pewarnaan Gram dan uji biokimiawi. Isolasi bakteri dari kedua kultivar dilakukan dengan teknik pengenceran, yaitu pada seri pengenceran ke- 10-2, 10-3, dan 10-4. Bakteri-bakteri yang ditemukan pada kultivar Simadu diduga mempunyai kemiripan dengan jenis Bacillus sp, Pseudomonas sp, Enterobacter sp, Pediococcus sp, Acinetobacter sp, Lactobacillus sp, Gluconobacter sp dan Acetobacter sp. Sedangkan pada kultivar Biasa ditemukan bakteri yang diduga mempunyai kemiripan dengan jenis Bacillus sp, Pseudomonas sp, Enterobacter sp, Pediococcus sp, Acetobacter sp dan Micrococcus sp. Perbedaan keragaman bakteri pada kedua kultivar tersebut diikuti dengan perbedaan hasil uji organoleptik bahwa warna, rasa, aroma dan tekstur pada nanas Simadu lebih baik dibandingkan dengan nanas Biasa. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa perbedaan bakteri endofit yang terdapat pada setiap kultivar diduga mempengaruhi karakteristik buah nanas (warna, rasa, aroma dan tekstur). Kata kunci : Nanas, Bakteri Endofit, Karakteristik buah

Abstract

The lower of awareness, motivation, and self regulation students’ on learning is a major concern in science education. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effects of self-efficacy beliefs and metacognitive on academic performance among high school students based on gender on Genetic concept that include sub-concepts: Genetic Mendel, Heredity, and Mutation. Descriptive method is constructed this study. A total of 60 students XII grader of high school are participated in the study. Data were collected by Self-efficacy and Metacognitive Questionnaire, Genetic Concept Test, and Final Questionnaire.  Data were analyzed using inferential statistics, regression. Regression analysis indicated that self-efficacy and metacognitive was a strong predictor of academic performance. This case are showed by the value of regression, R = 0.612 so that self-efficacy and metacognitive were inferred was a strong predictor of academic performance. The other finding on this research show that male students are outperforming female students on self-efficacy, metacognitive, and academic performance, so that can be conducted a further research about how to increase level of self-efficacy and metacognitive on female students.
