Abstract

A study aims to understand the morphological characteristics and growthpattern of Wallago leerii obtained from the Kampar River has been conducted.Morphological characteristics studied were sex ratio, morphometrical and meristicalcharacteristics and also growth pattern (length-weight relationship, condition factorsand otolith) of the fish. During the sampling period, 346 fishes were caught (125males and 221 females). Body length and body weight of the males ranged from330 to1020 mm and 260-10500 gram, while that of the female was 300-920 mmand 140 - 8700 gram respectively. Sex ratio of the fish was 1 : 1.8, it means thatduring the reproductive activities, the number of female may more than the male (1male may fertilize 1.8 females).Equation of body length-weight relationship of the male was W = 384.0L0.068, , while that of the female was W = 374.5 L0,083, and that of all fishes (maleand female) was W = 378.8L0.073. Correlation coefficient (r) was 0.924 for themales and 0.950for females. It means that increasing body length is alwaysfollowed by increasing body weight and growth pattern of the Wallago sp wasallometric. Condition factor of the fish was 0.0517-0.2016, (0.0517-0.2016 formales and 0.0519-0.1447 for females). Abstract

A study aims to find out the domestication and triggering gonadal maturation techniques of Thynnicthys thynnoides obtained from Kampar River, Riau has beenconducted from June to August 2009. Fish samples were kept in 1 x 1 x 1 m cages,30 fishes/ cage. Fishes were fed on three types of food namely dried Tubifex, shrimppellet (without vitamin E addition) and shrimp pellet that is enriched with vitamin E(100 gram/ kg ). The food provided was 5% of total fish body weight/ day.Result shown that fish domestication can be conducted by keeping them in the cagesthat are placed in the area where the fish are captured. During the first week, fisheswere not fed and in the following weeks they were provided with the treated fed. Thebest result obtained in the fishes that are feed with shrimp pellet that is enrichedwith vitamin E. During the research period (8 weeks), 12 fishes were sampled and 5of them were in the 4th gonadal maturity level, their maturity indices was 15.603%,fecundity 19,516 eggs, egg diameter 1.07 mm and semen volume produced 0.945 ml.Key words : domestication, maturity indeces, fecundity egg diameter

Abstract

AbstractAnabas testudineus is type of fish commonly inhabit the Lubuk Siam Lake in Riau. However, information on reproductive biology of the fish is rare. To understand the biologycal aspects of this fish, astudy was conducted.The fish was sampled once at two weeks for a month period, from July to August 2019. Parameters measured were sex ratio, gonad maturity level, Gonad Somatic Index (GSI), fecundity and egg diameter. Result shown that there was 44 males and 53 females (sex ratio 1:1) . The female?s body is larger and has brighter color than those of the male. The gonadal matury leves in females was 4 in Lubuk Siam River.The Gonad Somatic Index (GSI) of male is around0.40% - 1.13%  and female is around 0.57%-4.60%. The average fecundity of the female was 1.986 -3.318. Egg diameter was around 0.53 - 0.58 mm. This result indicated that betok fish were total spawner. Diameter and the evenly indicate the fish is total spawner. The  absence of major females in the study area may indicate that the study area is not spawning graund.Keywords: Sex ratio, gonad maturity level, gonad somatix index, fecundity, Total Spawner

Abstract

AbstractPuntius hexazona (Sumatra fish) is a type of freshwater fish that inhabits the streams in the Riau University area and the upstream of the Sibam River. A study aims to understand the reproductive biology of P.hexazona has been conducted from May-August 2019. The fish was sampled 6 times, twice/month. Parameters measured were sexual characteristics, sex ratio, gonad maturity level, gonad somatic index (GSI), fecundity and egg diameter. Results shown that the fish from the streamswas 54 (24 males and 30 females,  sex ratio of 1: 1.25), while that of the Sibam River was 38 (16 males and 22 females, sex ratio of 1: 1.38). The average of GSI and fecundity of the fish from the streams was 3.37 and 432 respectively, while those of the Sibam River was 3.08 and 327. Egg diameter of all fish sampled was ranged from  0.33 to 0.78 mm. The eggs distribute evenly in the ovary an it indicates that the fish is a total spawner.Keywords: Sumatra fish, gonad maturity level, gonad somatic index, fecundity, total spawner.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Channa lucius is one of freshwater fishes that inhabit the Kampar Lama Oxbow Lake. This research aims to determine the type of food present in the fish?s stomach. To understand the type of food consumed by C. lucius, a research has been conducted at July to August 2019. There were 107 fishes captured, but only 38 fish have full stomach. The analysis was conducted using a gravimetric method. Stomach content was analysis as a basis to calculate the Preponderance Index (PI).  Result shown that the main food of C. lucius is fish (PI 98%) and the complementary food is insects (PI 1%). The water quality parameter of the Kampar Lama Oxbow Lake are as follows : temperature 28-29°C, transparency 47.5-48 cm, pH 5, DO 4.06-4.47 mg/L, and CO2 9.98-11.98 mg/L.Keyword : Channidae, gut content, gravimetric method, index of preponderance

Abstract

Abstract            Channa lucius or snakehead fishinhabit the Kampar Lama Oxbow Lake. This research aims to understand the pattern of otolith growth rings ofthat fish and it was conducted in July to August 2019. The fish were caught using fish trap, once/week. There were 58 fishes (38 male fishes and 20 female fishes). The otolith (sagita) were removed and manually shaved. Growth ring pattern was studied using a binocular microscope. Among the fishes captured, only 49 fishes have dark growth rings in their otolith.  The otolith length was 5.49-9.87 mm and their weight was 0.0212-0.0635 g. The number of dark ring in the otolith was 1-3. Result shown that the distance between the nucleus and the first dark ring ranges from 0.2-1.45 mm, indicating that the first dark ring were formed individually and they were not formed by periodical incident in the fish life. Water quality in the sampling area was good and it may be sufficient to support the life of C. lucius. Keywords :dark ring, channidae, growth pattern , sagita

Abstract

This study aims to determine the best stocking solid in the gonad maturation of Tricho-gaster leeri Blkr in cages placed in ponds. Cage size used is 1 x 1 x 1 m were placed in thepond Fisheries and Marine Science Faculty, Riau University with a solid stocking respectivelyP1 = 30 fishes/cage, P2 = 40 fishes/cage and P3 = 50 fishes /cage. The fish were reared for 6(six) weeks, during maturation of fish feed shrimp pellets + vitamin E. Maturation observa-tions conducted each week by taking 20% of the samples. Parameters measured were maturitylevel, gonado somatic index (GSI), fecundity, egg diameter, semen volume, and mortality.The results showed that the best treatment was P1 = 30 fishes/cage produce attainment gonadmaturation (TKG IV) was 2 fishes, gonado somatic index (GSI) was 8.36 %, fecundity was1004 eggs, egg diameters was 0.66 mm, semen volume was 0.0173 ml and mortality was 2fishes.]

Abstract

Mystacoleucus padangensis is relatively small Cyprinids that commonly inhabit theToba Lake and surrounding waters. A study aims to understand the stomach contentand its relation with size, sex and level of maturity of gonads has been done onJanuary to April 2014. There were three stations, namely the Naborsahan River(Station I), river mouth of the Naborsahan River (Station II), and the Toba Lake(Stasiun III). There were 515 fishes captured, however only 52 fishes were used forstomach content analysis study as the other having almost empty stomach (stomachfullness index less than 50%. Parameters measured were Index of Preponderance(IP), type of food based on Total Length, sex, and maturity level. Results shown thatthe main food of this fish is Rotifera (IP 41.78%). Small fishes (less than 81 mm TL)tend consume Bacilliariophyceae (76.17%), medium sized (80 – 93 mm TL) fish tendto consume Cyanophyceae (39.87%), while the big fish (more than 139 mm TL)prefer to consume Rotifera 38.27-58.38%) and Xanthophyceae (52.51%). Based onsex, the male eat more Cyanophyceae (35.60%), while that of the female Rotifera(39.86%). Fish with relatively low maturity level (2nd and 3rd maturity levels) tend toeat Cyanophyceae (82.56%) and Bacilliariophyceae (76.29%) respectively, whilemature fish prefer Rotifers (81.58%). Abstract

The study aims to understand morphological and meristical characteristics,relative growth and condition factor of Mystus nigriceps living in the Pinang LuarOxbow has been conducted on Januari to Maret 2014. The results There were 132fishes (23-184 mm TL and 2-40 gr) which collected and measured. There are sevencharacters that will be calculated meristic and 27 morphometric characters that willbe measured in this study. Meristical characteristics of fins were as follows D.I.7,P.II.10-22, V.10-12, A.8-9 C.16-23. Twenty seven morphological characteristicswere measured and to understand the growth pattern, each character length wascompared with Total Length (TL) and was reflected as percent of the TL. Therelative growth patterns of the morphological characteristic measured is thecharacteristic growing faster than that of the TL.. Lenght-weight relationship shownthat m. nigriceps male growing isometric and m. nigriceps female allometric positive(male b=2,968 and female 3,092). The water quality shown tremperature range 26 –28 0C, pH was 5, DO 4,6 – 6,2 mg/l, C02 5,8-8,8, brightness 22-49cm, depth 108-520cm. Abstract

A study on the diversity of freshwater fishes in the Pinang Dalam Lake wasconducted from January to March 2014. Fish samples were captured 4 times, once in 2weeks. This research aims to understand diversity of fish species, species of economicfreshwater fishes and decorated freshwater fishes in that area. Fish was captured using gillnet, seine, scoop-net, fishhook, fish trap and line fishing. The fishes captured were thendescribe and identified based on Saanin (1984) and Kottelat (1993) and they werephotograped. Result shown that the fishes are belonged to 3 orders, 11 families, 23genuses and 28 species. The fish collected are Barbodes gonionotus, B. Schwanefeldi,Cyclocheilichthys apogon, Hampala bimaculata, H. macrolepidota, Labiobarbusocellatus, Osteochilus hasselti, Oxygaster anomarula Puntioplites waandersi, Puntiustetrazona, Rasbora cephalotaenia, Thynnichtys polylepis, Botia hymenophysa, Mystusnemurus, M. nigriceps, Kryotopterus apogon, K. limpok, Ompok hypophthalmus, Wallagoleerii, Pangasius polyuranodon, Pristolepis grootii, Helostoma temminckii, Osphronemusgoramy, Anabas testudineus, Belontia hasselti, Trichogaster leerii, T. trichopterus andChanna micropeltes.
