Abstract

Abstract             This research aimed to improve students’ ability in writing recount text using guided wh-questions to class VIII C students of SMP Negeri 6 Teluk Keramat in Academic Year 2018/2019. This research was conducted based on the problems found in the classroom. First, students had difficulty in writing recount text because they did not know about the generic structures. Second, students also had difficulties in using simple past tense. The research was conduted using Classroom Action Research in three cycles. The subject of this research was 26 students in class VIII C. The researcher used observational checklists, field notes, and scoring rubric as tools to collect the data. The result showed that the use of guided wh-questions can generate the students’ ideas and develop the ideas in writing. Guided wh-questions was improved students’ achievement in writing recount text concerning the generic structure, language features, and writing mechanics.            Keyword: Improve, Writing Recount Text, Guided WH-Questions.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of conducting his researcher was to improve student’ speaking ability through guided questions at SMP Negeri 6 Satu Atap Sintang in academic year 2015/2016. This research was conducted as a classroom action research to solve the problem that found in the atmosphere of the class, which was students’ lack of ability in the speaking. The subjects of the research were class B, with 35 students. This research is done in three meeting or cycles. So, improving students’ ability  in speaking can be seen in every teaching process that was observed  by the researcher and colaborator. The data showed that the guided questions technicque applied in the class room improved the students’ speaking ability. The result of students’ speaking ability in the first meeting was 6,40 catagorized as average to good, second meting was 6.70 catogorized as average to good and the last meeting was 70,20 categorized as average to good. The observation and field notes also showed that there was improvement in term the of the teaching learning process. Overall, guided question technique  had improved the students’ speaking ability on the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 6 Satu Atap Sintang in academic year 2015/2016. Keywords: Guided Questions, Speaking Ability Abstrak: Penilitian dilakukan bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa melalui mata pelajaran terpimpin di SMP Negeri 6 Satu Atap Sintang pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Penelitian ini dilakukan sebagai penelitian tindakan kelas untuk memecahkan masalah yang ditemui di atmosfer kelas, yaitu kurangnya kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara. Subyek penelitian adalah kelas B; yang terdiri dari 35 siswa. Penelitian ini dilakukan dalam tiga pertemuan atau siklus. Jadi, meningkatnya kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara dapat dilihat di setiap pertemuan yang diamati oleh peneliti dan kolaborator. Data menunjukkan teknik pertanyaan yang dipandu yang diterapkan pada subject penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan berbicara siswa dapat ditingkatkan. Hasil kemampuan berbicara siswa pada pertemuan pertama adalah 6.40 yang dikategorikan rata-rata “baik”, pada siklus ke dua adalah 6.70 yang dikategorikan rata-rata juga “baik” dan pada siklus terakhir adalah 7.20 yang dikatagorikan sangat baik. Apa yang tercatat dalam pengamatan dan catatan lapangan juga menunjukkan bahwa ada peningkatan dalam hal proses belajar mengajar. Ini menunjukkan bahwa guided question technique  telah meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa kelas Delapan di SMP Negeri 6 Satu Atap Sintang tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Kata Kunci : Quided Question, Kemampuan Berbicara

Abstract

 Abstract This research was aimed to improve students’ speaking problem through Role Play on class XI IPA 1 of MAN Putussibau in academic year 2016/2017. In this research, the writer implemented Role Play to solve the students’ problem. The 33 students were participating in this research. The method of this research was Classroom Action Research. The students’ attitude towards the learning process were gathered by observation checklist and fieldnote. The data of speaking skill were obtained by speaking assessment according to the scoring rubric. In each cycle, the students improved their speaking skill through Role Play, especially in the last step, practicing and reviewing. According to the finding, the students were not able to pronounce some words and not fluent in speaking in the first cycle. They started to improve their speaking in the second cycle. In the cycle three, the students were able to pronounce the words and fluent when performed the Role Play. As the conclusion, Role Play improved the students’ speaking problem. For English teachers, Role Play can be used to improve students’ problem in speaking. Keywords: Role Play, Speaking Skill, Classroom Action Research

Abstract

Abstract : This research is to design a game as material to support Content Language Integrated Learning Approach(CLIL) which is applied on Science subject on 5th grade students of Cerdas Istimewa class on SD Muhammadiyah 2 Pontianak. The method of this research is development research that uses ADDIE instructional development procedure (Analysis, Design, Development, Implement, dan Evaluation). The result of this research is a game that helps students to learn the specific science term or basic vocabulary in lifecycle topic of science subject. The game has been already evaluated by expert in media and learning. As the result, the media expert evaluation is 4.65 that is classified as feasible to be used as instructional media. The result of the subject matter evaluation is 4.29 that mean feasible to be used as supplementary material to support the CLIL approach for Science subject. Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendesain sebuah game android yang berguna sebagai material untuk membantu pendekatan Content Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) yang diterapkan pada pelajaran IPA pada siswa Cerdas Istimewa kelas 5 di SD Muhammadiyah 2 Pontianak. Adapun metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pengembangan dengan tahapan ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implement, dan Evaluation). Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah sebuah game yang berperan sebagai material pembantu (scaffolding) yang dapat membantu siswa untuk belajar kata-kata dasar dalam topik pelajaran siklus kehidupan di pelajaran sains. Game tersebut telah di evaluasi oleh expert di bidang pembelajaran dan media. Alhasil, game ini dikatakan layak dengan skor 4.29 pada tinjauan media dan 4.65 pada tinjauan pembelajaran. Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to design teaching material to help students in learning vocabulary with anti-corruption topic in supporting character education to students in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak academic year 2015/2016. The completed research was implemented to the first semester of eleventh students in SMA Muhamadiyah 1 Pontianak. There were 30 students who actively involved in this research. The method of this research was development research which consisted of four phases: analyze, design, develop, and implement or called ADDI. The result of the research is a design of teaching material comic to help students in learning vocabulary with anti-corruption topic in supporting their character education. The comic was used for one class meeting on Giving Suggestion topic. On the implementation, based on the observation and feedbacks both from the students and the teacher, it was found that anti-corruption comic was usable for students in learning vocabulary to support their character education of anti-corruption on Giving Suggestion topic.   Key words: Development Research, Vocabulary, Anti-Corruption, Comic Abstrak: Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk merancang bahan ajar untuk membantu siswa dalam mempelajari kosa kata yang berhubungan dengan topik anti-korupsi dalam rangka pendidikan karakter kepada siswa-siswi di SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Penelitian ini diimplementasikan kepada siswa-siswi kelas sebelas di SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak. Terdapat 30 siswa-siswi yang terlibat aktif dalam penelitian ini. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian pengembangan yang terdiri dari empat tahapan: analisis, desain, pengembangan, dan implementasi atau disebut ADDI. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah rancangan materi pembelajaran yang digunakan untuk membantu siswa-siswi dalam mempelajari kosa kata yang berhubungan dengan topic anti-korupsi dalam rangka membantu pendidikan karakter mereka. Materi ajar komik digunakan di dalam satu pertemuan belajar dalam topic Giving Suggestion. Pada tahap implementsi, berdasarkan observasi dan umpan balik baik oleh siswa-siswi maupun guru, didapati bahwa komik anti-korupsi dapat digunakan bagi siswa dalam mempelajari kosa kata untuk membantu pendidikan karakter anti-korupsi pada topic Giving Suggestion Kata Kunci: Penelitian Pengembangan, Kosa Kata, Anti-Korupsi, Komik

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research is conducted to improve students’ vocabulary mastery through Jumbled Letters Game. The subjects of this research were 35 class VIIA students of SMPN 1 Kembayan, Sanggau in academic year 2013/2014. To collect the data of research, the writer and research collaborator employed observation checklist to know students’ progress in learning English vocabulary within two cycles. Field notes were also used to monitor the teacher and students’ performance. The result of data analysis showed that class VIIA students got their progress in mastering vocabulary. In the first cycle, the students’ mean score of vocabulary mastery was only 58.57 and categorized as poor. By doing all the steps of classroom action research, the process of teaching and learning was evaluated and modified, including providing clues for the students during playing the game. Then in the second cycle, the mean score of the students was improved to 72 which categorized as good. It showed that there was an improvement of the students’ English vocabulary mastery after applying the jumbled letters game during teaching learning activity. Keyword: vocabulary mastery, jumbled letters game, improving Abstrak: Penelitian Tindakan Kelas ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan penguasaan kosa kata siswa melalui Permainan Huruf Bercampur. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 35 siswa kelas VIIA dari SMPN 1 Kembayan, Sanggau tahun ajaran 2013/2014. Untuk pengumpulan data penelitian, penulis dan kolaborator penelitian menggunakan checklist observasi untuk mengetahui kemajuan siswa dalam mempelajari kosa kata Bahasa Inggris dalam dua siklus. Catatan lapangan juga digunakan untuk melihat performa guru dan siswa. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa siswa kelas VIIA mengalami kemajuan dalam penguasaan kosa kata. Dalam siklus pertama, nilai rata-rata siswa hanya 58.57 dan kategorinya buruk. Dengan melakukan semua langkah-langkah dalam penelitian tindakan kelas, proses belajar mengajar dievaluasi dan dimodifikasi, termasuk menambahkan petunjuk bagi siswa selama bermain. Kemudian di siklus kedua, nilai rata-rata siswa meningkat menjadi 72 dan kategorinya baik. Ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan dalam penguasaan kosa kata Bahasa Inggris oleh siswa setelah menerapkan Permainan Huruf Bercampur selama aktifitas belajar mengajar. Abstract

Abstract:An appropriate summative test should consider the validity, which consist of content validity, level of difficulty and discriminating power, and reliability. The aim of this research is to find out those terms of quality for the eighth grade English Summative test in SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Raya.The research design in this research is descriptive quantitative which present and describe the data. The samples of this reaserch in the sumative test items. The research finding showed that the content validity was classified into invalid test due to the unavailability of the table specification. The mean score for the level of difficulty is 0.582 and categorized as moderate summative test, and the discriminating power mean score is 0.368 and categorized as a good summative test. The reliability mean score is 0.742 and categorized as a substantial summative test. In general the test was classified as a good summative test despite the unavailability of the table of specification.   Key words:EnglishSummative,Test Items Abstrak: Sebuah test yang baik harus harus memenuhi tingkat validitas yang baik, yang terdiri dari validitas isi, tingkat kesukaran dan daya pembeda, serta reabilitas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari tahu kualitas tersebut pada butir soal ujian akhir semester ganjil di SMP Negeri 1 Sungai Raya. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitaf yang menampilkan data dan menjelaskannya. Sample dari penelitia ini adalah butir-butir soal pada ujjian akhir semester ganjil. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa validitas isi test dikategorikan sebagai test yang tidak sah dikarenakan ketidak tersediannya kisi-kisi soal. Nilai rata-rata untuk tingkat kesukaran adalah 0.582 dan dikategorikan kedalam test yang sedang, sementara itu untuk nilai daya pembeda adalah 0.368 yang dikategorikan sebagai test yang bagus. Selanjutnya, test tersebut mempunyai tingkat reliabilitas yang kuku dengan nilai 0.742. Secara keseluruhan butir-butir soal ujian akhir semester tersebut dikategorikan sebagai test yang bagus meskipun tidak ada kisi-kisi soal.   Kata Kunci: Test Sumatif Bahasa Inggris,Butir Soal

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate the effectiveness of the use of online encyclopedia on factmonster.com to develop students’ reading comprehension on descriptive text. This research was conducted as pre experimental design. The researcher took XI IPA class of SMAN 2 Sungai Ambawang in academic year 2012/2013 as the sample. The data were derived from multiple choice tests that were taken from a student’s book. The result showed that the mean score of pretest was 49.00 while the posttest was 65.31. The different score between pretest and posttest was 16.31. The students’ development in using online encyclopedia especially on factmonster.com during the research showed a good change. It was found from the result of t-test that t-value is higher than t-table (5.22 > 2.048). In conclusion, the use of online encyclopedia on factmonster.com is effective to develop the students’ reading comprehension achievement on the descriptive text. Keywords : Descriptive Text, Reading Comprehension, Online Encyclopedia Abstrak : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki keefektifan penggunaan media enslikopedia online pada situs factmonster.com dalam mengembangkan kemampuan komprehensi membaca siswa pada teks deskriptif. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah Pre-Experimental. Peneliti mengambil kelas XI IPA dari SMAN 2 Sungai Ambawang tahun ajaran 2012/2013 sebagai sampel. Soal pilihan ganda diambil dari buku pegangan siswa. Berdasarkan penelitian, hasil nilai rata-rata pre test siswa adalah 49, sementara nilai rata-rata post test menunjukan 65.31. Dengan demikian dapat dilihat bahwa jarak interval nilai pre test dan post test adalah 16.31. Pengembangan komprehensi membaca siswa dalam penggunaan media enslikopedia online pada situs factmonster.com selama penelitian menunjukan perubahan yg baik. Hal itu dapat dilihat darin hasil penghitungan t-test yg menunjukan bahwa hasil t-test lebih tinggi dari t-table (5.22 > 2.048). Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan media enslikopedia online pada situs factmonster.com efektif dalam mengembangkan kemampuan komprehensi membaca siswa pada teks deskriptif. Kata Kunci : Teks Deskriptif, Komprehensi Membaca, Enslikopedia Online

Abstract

AbstractMotivation plays an important role to the success of the students’ learning. Each individual who has motivation will drive directly to achieve his goal to facilitate himself. Motivation needed to reach a successful of English learning achievement. This research has porposes to find out how high the students’ motivation and students’ English learning achievement, how strong the correlation between students’ motivation and English learning achievement and investigate the most dominant factor influencing students’ low English learning achievement. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of MAS Hidayatul Muslimin 2 Sungai Raya. They were 20 students as the samples from 34 were students. The method of this research was conducted correlational study. The data collected from the questionnaire and documentary. From the reserach finding, the data analysis showed that the students’ motivation was clarified moderate qualification with mean score 50.2% and the students’ English achievement was categorized poor with mean score 38.6. The correlation between students’ motivation and English learning achievement is categorized low with r = 0.34 and the contribution of motivation on English learning achievement was 34%. It was low impact to contribute the students’ English learning achievement, it might be caused by other factor. Last, the most dominant factor influencing students’ low English learning achievement was clarified students’ attitude. Students have negative attitude toward English subject. Most of them did not pay good attention while the learning teaching process in the classroom and the school also was lack of media and facilities to support them in learning English. Keyword: Correlational Study, Students’ Motivation, English Learning Achievement

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to answer the research question  “how effective is the use of bang-bang game to increase vocabulary achievement of the seventh grade students of SMPN 11 Pontianak?”. The research  focused on the seventh grade students of SMPN 11 Pontianak in Academic Year 2017/2018 by administering a vocabulary test of common noun before and after the treatment given. In conducting this research, the researcher applied pre-experimental research  using one sample group with no control group. The data showed that the mean score of the students’ post-test was (85.60) higher than students’ pre-test (45.66).The research indicated that the effect size was categorized as moderate effect. The t-test (4.01) was bigger than the t-table (2.042). In conclusion, it is clear that the alternative hypothesis “The use of bang-bang game as the teaching technique in teaching vocabulary is effective to increase students’ vocabulary achievement was accepted, and the null hypothesis was rejected”.           Keywords: Bang-bang Game, Vocabulary,  Pre-Experimental Study
