Abstract

Pressure distribution along a series of guide and runner blade passages of the Francis turbine are useful to be known in order to predict flowing water pressure through the passages whether the pressure under the vapor pressure or not. Furthermore, when at any section of the passages the water pressure under the vapor pressure a cavitations will occur. In this study, the pressure of flowing water throughout the blade passages were measured at four sections along the passages by using four mercury deflection manometers and conditions of the flowing water were recorded by using a stroboscope and camera. The turbine was operated at 5 different heads with the same guide blade openings. Water pressures at the inlet and outlet turbine were measured by a Bourdon manometer of each. The flow rates were measured by using an orifice plate equipped with a mercury deep well manometer. The forces were measured by using a prony brake and turbine rotations were detected by using a digital tachometer. The result of the research state that head drop on the guide and runner blades, and turbine efficiency changing as the head, flow rate and turbine speed changed. The head drop on the runner was greater than that on the guide blade. Cavitations were not occoured because the lower pressure along the passages were still higher than vapor pressure. Water pressure decreased from the guide blade inlet to the runner outlet. Keywords : Francis turbine, Pressure distribution, guide and runner passages, head drop, cavitations, efficiency.

Abstract

Coconut oil combustion characteristic is observed experimentally by evaporating oil in the boiler then mix it with air before being burned at various equivalence ratios in the Hele-shaw cell. The result shows that, coconut oil tends to break into glycerol and fatty acid due to hydrolysis reaction producing the flame propagation, where the fatty acid flame propagates first then glycerol flame. Micro-explosion occurs when moisture from fatty acid combustion is absorbed by glycerol and higher heating due to higher flame speed produces more micro-explosion.

Abstract

Kajian tentang shrinkage pada alumin zeolit alam komposit telah dilakukan. Pengukuran volume green part dan volume keramik serta berat spesimen berbentuk tangkai spesimen pullout dilakukan berdasarkan hasil dari sintering menggunakan burner furnace. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari berat jenis dari spesimen green part dan spesimen keramik serta menghitung shrinkage yang terjadi akibat sintering pada suhu 1250OC. Penelitian ini menggunakan bahan alumina A12 dan zeolit alam produksi Batu Malang dengan campuran 10, 20, 30, dan 40 % berat zeolit yang dikompaksi pada 90 Mpa untuk menghasilkan green part. Penelitian ini menghasilkan berat jenis green part 1,21-1,36 gr/cm3, berat jenis keramik 1,20-1,33 gr/cm3 dan shrinkage 2,31-6,55 %. Hasil penelitian diharapkan dapat untuk menghitung dalam perencanaan pembuatan spesimen uji pullout dengan penambahan serat kontinyu stainless steel. Abstract

Sawdust coconut trunks of palm trees and fiber coconut coir are two waste materials from the processing of coconuts and coconut tree trunks sawmill waste are plentiful materials can be utilized for producing composites using polyester resins. Both each properties materials as follow polyester resin: liquid in the open air conditions, sawdust coconut and coconut coir fiber properties is lightweight and fragile nature of the polyester adhesive used as a binder (binder) between fiber coconut coir and sawdust coconut palm tree trunks as a filler. The variation volume fraction between the sawdust and coconut trunks of fiber coconut coir in polyester resin influence mechanical properties for each composition of this composite. By comparizing the volume fraction of either polyester, sawdust coconut palm tree trunks and fiber coconut coir (Coir coconut) using tensile test standard ASTM D638-I, and the ASTM D6110 for impact testing. The result of tensile and impact test, obtained that the optimum percentage 30:10 per cent, mean tensile strength on 95.953 N/mm2 , mean elasticity 0,125 % , mean elasticity modulus 768.702 N/mm2, mean absorbed energy 2,679 J and mean impact value 0,068 J/mm2. Abstract

Human necessities for good material to support daily activity are growing up, especially eco-friendly material.  Applications such as decoration, interior, until the furniture increased along with the population growth. Sago (Metroxylon sp) as one of the plants and also as one of the staple food in Maluku, this plant thrives in Maluku. To be processed into sago that is ready to eat required the process of extraction of sago tree (Metroxylon sp) trunk that leaves waste sago pith (fiber). In this research the utilization of waste fiber sago pith in use as composite amplifier with matrix is sago starch. Research using natural ingredients as composite maker, is expected to get composite that have good impact strength and good water absorption rate. The composites were made using hand lay up method with variation of volume fraction of sago pith fiber is 30% and 50% with NaOH solution and aquades in alkaline process with percentage comparison of 3%, 5%, 7% and 9% for 120 minutes immersion time. The results of this study found the best impact strength on the composite with a variation of fiber volume of 50% with alkaline process 9% with the highest value on the energy absorbed composite 6,9303 (J) with impact strength 0.0693 (J/mm2). The best water absorption rate is at 8.67% occurring on a 50% fiber fraction variation with a percentage of 9% NaOH alkali process.

Abstract

This research aimed to increase implementation of 5S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke) and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) in a paper manufacture company using integration of DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improvement, Control) approach and expert system. The DMAIC approach was used for obtain main problem why implementation worked ineffectively, root-cause problem, and improvement solution for business process. Expert system was used to help fastening consultation process while the expert of 5S and TPM, which is few in number, have no time to give consultation. Problems often occurred in 5S and TPM implementation during 2011-2012 are Seiso, Seiton, Autonomous Maintenance, and Seiri. Those problems are caused by the process business that only focused in audit system, instead of 5S implementation stage itself whereas many mechanic or electric still have wrong perception about 5S, and also caused by Autonomous Maintenance that not work effectively. The proposed improvement for the problem are to implement 5S activities on daily activities in simple way in order to introduce 5S culture and increase frequency and control of Autonomous Maintenance. Expert system development delivered application (called SIPAMS) that gives recommendation for main problem. SIPAMS help organization member, such as operator, mechanic, electric and others who didn’t receive 5S/TPM implementation training, to consult and to learn basic principles of 5S and TPM.Keywords: 5S, Total Productive Maintenace, DMAIC Approach, Expert System

Abstract

Maintenance system on milling season is using of preventive and corrective maintenance program. However, implementation of the program is still not guided with adequate SOP (Standart Operation Procedure) especially on a specific areas. Downtime occurring during year 2012 on the season were of 241.83 hours. This impacts to loss of potential profits, labor costs, and production capacity. To cope the problem, the study proposes application of Maintenance Value Stream Mapping (MVSM) supported by Reliability Centered Maintenance method (RCM). RCM consists of FMEA, reliability analysis, and RCM Worksheet. For the reliability analysis this study uses easyfit 5.5 profesional, whereas for the MVSM describes actual activity of the maintenance. Based on the application and analysis, it is known there exist 3 machines that are in critical condition and they show having the highest downtime, namely : Unigrator, cane Carrier I, and Cane Carrier II. The result of this research are SOP for actual activity of maintenance, time interval of maintenance, and tipe of maintenance for the machines.Key Word: MVSM, RCM, SOP Maintenance, 5S, FMEA, RCM Worksheet

Abstract

Maintenance system is critical because if the maintenance goes well it will be able to guarantee the availability of the mechanical equipment so that the production system will running smoothly. One of the mechanical equipment that most important in the manufacturing especially in the sugar mill is the milling machine. The milling machine should always be in a condition that ready for use. In order to guarantee the availability of the machine, maintenance of a good strategy absolutely must be done. This research used MQFD method whereby this method is an integration between QFD and TPM method. According to Pramod et al., Merging the two methods are expected to improve the quality of maintenance as well as to accommodate the all costumer voices both internal customers and external customers as compared to existing methods of maintenance. The results of this study, it is known that the milling machine maintenance needs to be improved in order to improve the performance of milling machines. As the solution, the steps to be taken are Implementation of routine inspection, Train maintenance staff, Assessing and Improving awareness of the operator and machinist, Utilizing softwares to record and analyze machine components data, Execution Planned Component Replacement and cleaning the machine regularly.Keywords:Maintenance Quality Function Deployment (MQFD), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), House of Quality (HOQ), Quality Function Deployment (QFD)

Abstract

Indonesia has a great potential to develop hydropower, because Indonesias mountainous topography and hilly and is drained by numerous rivers (large and small), and in certain areas there are lakes or reservoirs and the potential of water as an energy source. Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) is a technology that has been proven to not harm the environment, support the diversification of energy as renewable energy, support the use of fuel reduction program, and most of the construction using local materials. Kinetic Turbine is one of the options in utilizing the potential of the kinetic energy in the form of velocity, kinetic studies using vertical shaft turbine, blade-shaped bowl that can withstand the flow in order to increase the tangential force generated.Amount ofkineticturbine bladesis one ofthe variablesthat affect therotationandtangentialstyle ofaturbine, so the effecton the value ofthe powerand efficiencyofakineticturbine. Abstract

Problems faced by South Leitimur Ambon District was had a lot of undeveloped tourism potential developed as a tourist attraction that makes this region as a tourist destination areas (DTW). Thus, the strategic planning and development of tourism industry must be oriented to the development of tourism potential possessed by considering the problems faced, the economy was able to increase the income of local communities. This research is a type of qualitative research data collection techniques through direct observation (observation), indepth interviews (depth interviews), distributing questionnaires (questionnaire) and the study of literature. Presentation of analysis done formally (in tabular form) or informal (narrative). The method used is the method of SWOT and QSPM form, data analysis performed by Internal External Factors, IE matrix analysis, SWOT analysis and research QSPM. The result of analysis is to show the position of tourism in the district of South Leitimur with a market penetration strategy and product development, strategic SWOT analysis of the SO, ST, WO and WT, QSPM analysis shows that the strategy should be prioritized first Product development is a 15.550 total of TAS, TAS total Progressive strategy II 14.050, III 13.350 TAS total market penetration and IV diversification strategy of the TAS total of 13,00. To develop the sub-region South Leitimur based on the results of the analysis and strategic issues are obtained, it will be obtained or performed the following programs: Tourism Potential Collection owned, Development of tourism potential, the potential increase in tourism, infrastructure improvement, increase the quality of human resources , Increasing and strengthening management systems and increase welfare.Keywords: tourism potential, strategic planning, analysis and swot analysis qspm.
