Abstract

Abstract. This research was aimed to explain the relationship between cognitive, affective and conative combined into the attitude components with the intention to purchase against the issue of mixed beef and boar meatselling in Yogyakarta. The sample of location was at Beringharjo market in which the issues of selling beef and boar meat was established. The research used survey method with interview and questionnaire whose validity and reliability had been proven. The sample of respondents was 80 buyers selected by purposive sampling method. The data were statistically tabulated and analyzed using Chi-square and Phi analyses. The results showed that most of the attitude components i.e. cognitive, affective and conative were classified in favorable category implying that the respondents were responsive and active to look for the information regarding the issue. There was dependent relationship between attitude of the respondents toward the mixed beef and boar meat selling and the intention to purchase it with weak relationship (Phi coefficient of 0.354). It was concluded that consumers’ attitude on the issue of circulation of beefmix with boar meat was to behave more consciously about the truth of the issue and to be worried about the mixed meat.Key Words: consumer’s attitude, purchasing intention, meat consumerAnimal Production 13(3):173-179 (2011)

Abstract

This study was aimed to obtain oil and the exact saponification with different NaOH concentration to protect unsaturated fats, which does can result in good production performance and lamb meat quality with low saturated fatty acid. Stage one studied the performance of sheep production on supplementing lemuru fish oil (LFO) protected with different saponification optimization. Twenty lambs aged 5-6 months early weighing 8-14 kg were divided into 4 treatments, namely P0 basal feed (50% elephant grass + 50% concentrate), P1 (basal feed + soap LFO NaOH 10%), P2 (basal feed + soap LFO NaOH 20%) and P3 (basal feed + soap LFO NaOH 30%) with completely randomized design and 5 replication for performance and 3 replication for meat quality. The results showed that the treatment effect was not significant (P>0.05) on the consumption of dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), ether extract (EE), total digestible nutrien (TDN), daily gain and blood cholesterol. P2 yield the highest daily gain 130.95 ± 19.29 g/head/day of cholesterol at the same time low of 58.67 mg/dl. Stage two studied the criteria of lamb carcass and meat quality in supplementary feeding LFO protected with different saponification optimization. Twelve sheeps were slaughtered for P0, P1, P2 and P3. The results showed that the treatment effect was not significant (P> 0.05) to slaughter weight, carcass weight and carcass percentage, the physical quality of meat (pH, water holding capacity, cooking losses and tenderness), and chemical quality of the meat (DM levels, CP , EE, saturated fatty acids and unsaturated fatty acids) except in EPA and DHA increased very significantly (P<0.01). Conclusively, giving soap LFO with different optimization did not significantly affect the appearance and quality of sheep meat production, except in EPA and DHA which were significantly increased

Abstract

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to investigate carcass quality, non-carcass component and meat cholesterol content of Kacang goat fed with fermented cocoa shell (FCS). Materials used in the experiment consisted of 9 male Kacang goat (6 - 9 months of age and ± 18,67 kg of body weight), corn straw, rice bran and FCS using three types of starters. The goat was divided into 3 groups of FCS fermentation of cocoa shell were carried out using 3 types of starters, i.e. cocoa shell fermentation 1) without additional starter (WAS FCS), 2) with Bioplus (Bioplus FCS, 3) with burger feed sauce (BFS FCS). All goats were fed corn straw and rice bran amounting to 70% and FCS amounting to 30% for 2 months. They were then slaughtered at Majeluk Slaughterhouse, Lombok. The data of carcass quality, non-carcass component, cholesterol content, and marbling were collected. The results showed that the carcass quality and non carcass component of Kacang goat were not significantly different among the feed treatments. However, the cholesterol content of meat was significantly different among the feed treatments (P<0.05). The average of carcass percentage, backfat thickness, rib eye area, fleshing index, cholesterol content and marbling of Kacang goat fed WAS FCS were 47.69%, 1.68 mm, 29.01cm2, 0.85%, 30.13 mg/100g, and 0.16%; fed Bioplus FCS were 48.67%, 1.80 mm, 30.79 cm2, 0.91%, 34.96 mg/100g and 0.05%; fed BFS FCS were 48.02%, 1.74 mm, 29.90 cm2, 0.77%, 31.88 mg/100g, and 0.11%, respectively. Non-carcass component of Kacang goat was not significantly different among the feed treatments, it was 42.41±0.064% in average. Cholesterol content of meat of Kacang goat differed among the feed treatments (P<0.05). Kacang goat fed WAS FCS had the lowest cholesterol content (30.13 mg/100 g). It could be concluded that Kacang goat fed ration containing fermented cocoa shell with several starters produced similar carcass quality and non carcass component. However, FCS without additional starter resulted in lower cholesterol content of meat.

Abstract

Small-scale marine capture fisheries have contributes to community welfare at Yogyakarta’s south coast. Government has planned some programs to develop fisheries. The development supposed only at rational effort in which fishers still gain advantages. Precautionary approach using bio-economic model of Gordon-Schaefer was applied to analyze the issue. The linear regression model of catch per unit of effort (C/f) (CPUE) and effort (f) was C/f = 59,851 – 0,0005f (R2 = 82, 71%). Fish price assumed at Rp 7,735.19 /kg with operational cost of Rp 59,835.67/trip. Total revenue and effort at maximum sustainable yield was predicted at Rp 13,396 billion and 56,860 trip (equals to 327 vessels), respectively. Fisher income at this level was Rp 167,774.51/trip/vessel. Fish exploration level in this area has already closed to total allowable catch. Free access equilibrium in which cost is equal to revenue might reach at effort of 102,231 trip (equals to 568 vessels). Managing fisheries at maximum economic yield might rise fisher income 17.83% comparing to maximum sustainable yield, but total revenue decreased 1.77% at 56.13% of existing effort. Some management strategies should be promoted and regulated for the fishery exploitation. Based on the results, those possible strategy were 1) limiting investment through regulation and permission; 2) improvement of fishers productivity through technology improvement to exploit  under-used fish resources; 3) expanding the fisheries activity to offshore through harbor development and social preparation; 4) marketing improvement through revitalization of fish action; 5) improving hadling and post harvest fish technology through training and extension; 6) the increasing of bargaining position through empowering fishers group; 7) promoting alternate incomes through integrated coastal tourism development; and 8) avoiding competition and conflict through developing Java’s south coast cooperation. Participatory approach in planning, developing and evaluating should be promoted to develop fishery a southern coast of Yogyakarta.
