Abstract

Consensus sequence of hemagglutinin (HA) gene of avian influenza viruses of H5N1 subtype isolatedfrom fowl in Indonesia ? hereafter named as H5N1_Indonesia ? is compared with that of H5N2 and H5N9viruses. Sequence information were downloaded from the public database GeneBank. The genetic distancesand nucleotide as well as its deduced amino-acid sequence alignment were analysed. At nucleotide level,genetic distances of HA between H5N1_Indonesia to H5N2 and H5N9 are 16.2% and 9.6%, respectively.At amino-acid level, the distances are 9.7% and 6.8%. The genetic distances of HA1 fragments are 19.0%(H5N1_Indonesia ? H5N2) and 10.9% (H5N1_Indonesia ? H5N9). At amino-acid, level the genetic distancesof HA1 are 13.1% (H5N1_Indonesia-H5N2) and 8.8% (H5N1_Indonesia ? H5N9). All three subtypes havedifferent glycosilation motive and variation of amino-acid sequence of four antigenic sites. The consequenceof those facts is discussed.

Abstract

Avian Influenza which is  in Indonesia  known as Flu Burung  is caused by the avian influenza virussubtype H5N1 (AIV-H5N1). Vaccination is one of the major strategies for preventing and eradicatingAIV-H5N1 in Indonesia. Several factors can affect the potential vaccine such as viral content and mediaused for the propagation of the virus. One of the media commonly used to propagate  the virus is pathogenspecific free (SPF) embryonated chicken eggs. However, as the SPF eggs production is limited and expensive,the use of clean embryonated chicken eggs as an alternative need to examined. This study aimed todetermine the sensitivity of SPF and clean embryonated chicken eggs to the AIV-H5N1. The virus usedwas seed avian influenza virus (A/ Chicken/West Java (Subang)/29/2007)  which haa previously werepropagated  in SPF eggs and the Clean Eggs. The virus titer was determined as Embryo infective Dose 50%(EID50) using Reed and Muench method. Sensitivity of SPF eggs and Clean Egg to the VAI-H5N1 wascompared using  Chi-square statistical analysis. The titers of Avian Influenza Virus subtype H5N1 were106.83EID50/0.1ml in SPF eggs and 106.17EID50/0.1 ml in the Clean Eggs. Statistical analysis showed that,the sensitivity of SPF Eggs and Egg Clean  for the propagation of the VAI-H5N1 was not significantlydifferent.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of public knowledge about rabies in an effort to Balirabies-free. The data were collected from three villages namely Kukuh in Tabananregency, Jagapati in Badung regency, and Seraya in Karangasem regency. The mentiontotal of responden are 991 people. Data were collected using questionnaire. Results showedthat respondents who do not know about the news that rabies has been in outbreak in Balias much as 33.3%. The sources of information about the disease of rabies came from themedia (TV, newspapers, radio) as much as 44%, and 31% from health extension program.First aid to do if bitten by a dog was wash wound with soap (80%), but there were alsoresponden who do not care for themself (4%). Most responden would go to health centerfor treatment (85%) if they were bitten by rabies dogs. But , there were also few respondenwho take no care and do nothing (7%). Public knowledge about the clinical symptoms of rabies was still low (53%), and as much as 39% of respondents did not know the signs ofrabies. Knowing of report place if there was an event of rabies or finding a dog with rabieswas to the head of the village (41%), to the Department of Animal Husbandry (39%) andnot reporting 4%. The conclusion of this study is the public knowledge about the disease ofrabies is moderate.

Abstract

Ducks are one of the birds that play a role in the spread and transmission of Newcastle disease virus.Newcastle disease infection in ducks are rarely accompanied by clinical symptoms, so the ducks couldpotentially spread the disease to other birds. In general, the distribution of ducks is going from farm toMarket Poultry and vice versa. The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence Newcastledisease infection in ducks reared on farms and sold at market Galiran Klungkung regency. The sampleused in this study was serum unvaccinated ducks ND. The samples used were 420 samples taken from thefarm and from Klungkung Galiran Market from March to August 2012.Serum samples were tested for thepresence of NDV antibody by using hemagglutinationtest(Haemaglutination Inhibition Test / HI test) atthe Biomedical Laboratory of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Udayana University. The results showedthat the seroprevalence Newcastle disease virus in ducks in Galiran Market were 33.3% and in farmsamounted to 46.2%. There are differences in seroprevalence Newcastle disease (p <0.05) in March, June,and August. Overall seroprevalence in Galiran Market and Newcastle disease in livestock in Klungkungregency equal to 39.8%. It can be concluded that Newcastle disease seroprevalence in Klungkung regency isquite high and might be potentially transmit the virus to other poultry. Therefore, periodic monitoring isnecessary as an effort to early prevention.

Abstract

A study has been carried out to map the distribution pattern of poultry from traditional market toreduce the transmission risk of avian influenza virus. The data were collected from threes markets wherepoultry are sold, namely in Bringkit of Badung Regency, Kumbasari of Denpasar City, and Kediri ofTabanan Regency. Data collections was based on interviews using questionnaire. Poultry from all marketsare distributed throughout Bali. Poultry are traded mainly for religious ceremony and immediatelyslaughtered as it arrives at the consumer?s house. The distribution pattern of poultry seems to play asignificant role in the disseminations of avian influenza virus. The right implementation of biosecurity intraditional markets is highly recommended to curb the risk.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perhatian pemilik anjing dalam mendukung  Bali bebas Rabies. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Desember 2010, di Desa Kukuh Tabanan, Desa Jagapati Badung, dan Desa Seraya Karangasem dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 500 orang. Cara pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah wawancara dengan panduan daftar pertanyaan yang ada pada kuisioner. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Jumlah kepemilikan anjing dari satu ekor sampai 4 ekor. Masyarakat memelihara anjing sebagian besar dengan tujuan untuk menjaga rumah (77,6%). Perhatian masyarakat pemilik anjing terhadap kesehatan dan perawatan kesehatan anjingnya, dilihat dari memandikan anjing, jumlah pemberian pakan, dan memeriksakan anjingnya ke dokter hewan masih rendah. Anggota keluarga yang sering  berinteraksi (memberikan pakan, memandikan) dengan anjing adalah ayah. Responden yang menjawab anjing bisa  dipegang pemilik sebanyak 93,6%. Berdasarkan atas jenis kelamin, masyarakat sebagian besar memelihara anjing jantan (84,8%). Anjing yang dipelihara dengan cara dilepas (64%). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah perhatian masyarakat dalam memelihara anjing dalam upaya mendukung Bali bebas rabies masih rendah. Disarankan perlu dilakukan kegiatan sosialisasi dan  edukasi tentang pemeliharaan anjing pada masyarakat.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak pegagan terhadap total eritrosit, kadar hemoglobin, dan packed cell volume pada tikus putih jantan. Penelitian ini menggunakan 15 ekor tikus putih jantan dengan berat badan ± 300 gram dan umur 12 minggu. Tikus ini kemudian dibagi dalam 5 perlakuan yaitu kelompok OA, OB, OC, OD, dan KT.  Masing-masing kelompok terdiri dari 3 ekor tikus. Kelompok  OA: 100 mg/ekor (0,2 ml); OB: 200 mg/ekor (0,4 ml); OC: 300mg/ekor (0,6 ml); OD: 400mg/ekor (0,8 ml) dan KT sebagai kontrol diberikan aquades 0,2 ml. Pemberian ekstrak pegagan diberikan secara oral setiap hari selama 7 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak pegagan dari dosis 100 mg/ekor, 200 mg/ekor, 300 mg/ekor, dan 400 mg/ekor berpengaruh secara nyata terhadap gambaran peningkatan total eritrosit, PCV, tetapi tidak mempengaruhi kadar hemoglobin jika dibandingkan dengan control yaitu masih dalam batas normal.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak etanol, partisi n-heksana, dan fraksi kromatografi buah pare (Momordica charantia L.) dalam menurunkan kadar glukosa darah pada tikus putih jantan diabetik eksperimental. Penelitian ini menggunakan 25 ekor tikus putih jantan yang dibagi menjadi lima kelompok perlakuan P0 (kontrol negatif), P1 (kontrol positif), P2 (ekstrak etanol), P3 (partisi n-heksana), dan P4 (fraksi kromatografi), variable yang diamati kadar glukosa darah selama 21 hari. Kadar glukosa darah dianalisa pada hari ke -1, 0, 4, 11, 18. Rancangan yang digunakan berupa rancangan acak lengkap (RAL). Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisis dengan menggunakan Split in Time. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian fraksi kromatografi pare 50 mg/kg berat badan mampu menurunkan kadar glukosa darah pada tikus hiperglikemik lebih baik dibandingkan dengan pemberian ekstrak etanol 200 mg/kg berat badan dan pertisi n-heksana 50 mg/kg berat badan.

Abstract

Normally, fluids lost through physiological activities such as respiration, sweating, panting,and urination. Abnormal lost of fluids occurs through vomiting, diarrhea, fever or excessiveurination and disease processes. The purpose of fluid therapy is to replenish the volume ofblood circulations and to replace the normal and excessive fluids lost. Dogs and cats needfluid intake 40 ? 60 ml/kg body weight daily to replenish fluids lost through urination andrespiration. In a condition of excessive fluids lost such as diarrhea and vomiting the animalbody needs water replacement as much as 70 ? 80% within 24 hours or instantaneouslyreplacement half of the water losses within the first 4 to 8 hours. In conclusions, fluidtherapy is one way for treating emergency condition animals with intensice care. Properlycare should be considered when choosing the right solutions for the fluid therapy

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui respon imun primer ayam petelur pasca vaksinasi Egg drop syndrome.  Sampel penelitian adalah ayam petelur jenis Isa Brown yang dipelihara di Desa Tiga, Kabupaten Bangli, Provinsi Bali. Sebanyak 25 ekor ayam petelur umur 14 minggu divaksin dengan vaksin EDS inaktif polivalen (mengandung antigen virus Newcastle disease, infectious bronchitis dan egg drop syndrome). Vaksinasi dilakukan secara intramuskuler pada otot dada. Pemeriksaan titer antibodi EDS dengan uji serologi Hambatan Hemaglutinasi (HI). Titer antibodi egg drop syndrome diperiksa sebanyak  empat kali yaitu satu kali sebelum vaksinasi dan tiga kali pasca vaksinasi. Rataan titer antibodi setiap minggu dianalisis menggunakan sidik ragam dilanjutkan dengan uji beda nyata terkecil, dan analisis regresi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terjadi peningkatan titer antibodi yang signifikan setiap minggunya pada ayam petelur pasca divaksinasi EDS. Titer antibodi satu minggu pasca vaksinasi sebesar 22,6 HI unit, pada dua minggu pasca vaksinasi sebesar 25,04 HI unit, dan  tiga minggu  pasca vaksinasi sebesar 26,4 HI unit.
