Abstract

In the course of our continuing search for novel paralytic compound from Indonesian plants, the methanol extract of the stem bark of Erythrina variegata (Leguminosae) showed significant paralytic activity against the third instar larvae of silkworm (Bombyx mori). The purposes of this research were isolation and structural elucidation of paralytic compound from the stem bark of E. variegata. Using the paralytic activity following the separation, the methanol extract was separated by combination of column chromatography to yield prenylisoflavone, warangalone. The chemical structure of warangalone was identified based on spectroscopic evidence and comparison with the previous reported. The paralytic activity of warangalone showed weak activity against the third instar larvae of silkworm (B. mori).

Abstract

Sintoc (Cinnamomum sintoc Bl.) is a plant which is used as medicine. This plant has been known to have an analgesic antiinflamatory activity, therefore it is predicted to have an antioxidant activity. An investigation on antioxidant activity of sintoc essential oils and ethanolic extract of its cortex using ascorbic acid as standard has been carried out. Essential oils and ethanol extract of sintoc cortex was tested using DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-pikril-hidrazil) by measuring absorbance using visible spectrophotometer at 518 nm. The methods of this research were distillation of essential oils and extraction of sintoc cortex, determination of the essential oil and extract concentrations required for 50% inhibition of DPPH radical scavenging effect (IC50) with ascorbic acid as the possitive control. The variation concentration  of essential oils are 15, 5, 1, 0.1, 0.5 ppm and 25, 20, 17, 15, 10 ppm for ethanolic extracts. The results showed that the essential oil showed antioxidant activity with IC50 value was 16.29 ppm (5 times lower than ascorbic acid) and then ethanolic extract showed IC50 value 38.89 ppm (11 times lower than ascorbic acid, IC50 of ascorbic acid was 3.35 ppm).

Abstract

AbstrakArtikel ini mengulas tentang efektivitas senyawa obat yang diambil dari beberapa jenis tanaman sebagai obat antivirus Flu Burung yaitu Tapak Liman (Elephantopus scaber L), Jahe Merah (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), The sea grass (T. Ciliatum), Fortunella margarita Lour, Eugenia jambolana Lam dan Capparis sinaica Veill. Metode yang digunakan umumnya menggunakan ekstraksi tanaman kemudian mengisolasi senyawa aktifnya. Target dari senyawa aktif yang diisolasi adalah menghambat proses replikasi virus Flu Burung ( Avian influenza ). Dalam artikel ini data ? data mengenai senyawa aktif dikumpulkan untuk mengetahui keefektifannya dalam menghambat proses replikasi virus Flu Burung.Kata kunci: Flu Burung, Elephantopus scaber L, Jahe Merah (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), T. Abstract

ABSTRAK Senyawa kalkon telah dilaporkan memiliki aktivitas farmakologis terhadap beberapa sel kanker, diantaranya adalah terhadap sel kanker ovarium (Qi et al., 2014), hati (SMMC-7721) (Ye et.al., 2004), HeLa (Zi et.al., 2005) dan payudara MCF-7 (Subarnas et al., 2012) .Telah dilakukan uji aktivitas penghambatan senyawa kalkon 2',4'?dihydroxy?6?methoxy?3,5?dimethyl­chalcone dari daun jambu air Eugenia aquea Burm f. terhadap sel kanker prostat DU145 dengan pengamatan profil pertumbuhan sel menggunakan metoda MTS assay. Hasil uji MTS menghasilkan nilai IC50  pada pengamatan 24 jam adalah sebesar 7,47 ?g/mL dan pada pengamatan 48 jam sebesar 5,84 ?g/mL. ABSTRACTChalcone has been reported that it has pharmacology activity towards cancer cells, one of them is ovarium (Qi et al., 2014), liver (SMMC-7721), HeLa (Zi et.al., 2005), and breast cancer cell line MCF-7(Subarnas et al., 2012). This research has conducted the activity test of chalcone 2',4'?dihydroxy?6?methoxy?3,5?dimethyl­chalcone inhibition from Eugenia aquea Burm f. leaves towards lung cancer cell A549 by observation of cell growth profile using MTS assay technique. The result of MTS test showed the value of IC50 at 24 hours observation was 7.47 ?g/mL and meanwhile, at 48 hours observation was 5.84 ?g/mL.

Abstract

Artikel ini mengulas tentang aktivitas immunomodulator tanaman sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata Nees.) yang digunakan sebagai terapi alternatif dalam meningkatkan sistem imunitas tubuh. Sambiloto (Andrographis paniculata Nees) merupakan tanaman asli Indonesia yang banyak diteliti saat ini, terutama aktivitas immunomodulator yang dimilikinya. Aktivitas immunomodulator dari sambiloto ini disebabkan karena adanya kandungan senyawa aktif berupa deoxyandrographolide, andrographolide, 14-deoxy-11, neoandrographolide, 12- didehydroandrographolide, homoandrographolide, diterpenoid dan flavonoid yang terkandung di dalam sambiloto. Sebagai agen immunomodulator, sambiloto dapat digunakan sebagai immunostimulator yang meningkatkan respon imun saat kekebalan tubuh menurun, dan juga bisa menjadi imunosupresor yang dapat menurunkan respon kekebalan tubuh saat sistem kekebalan tubuh meningkat melebihi kondisi tubuh normal. Selain itu, sebagai immunomodulator, sambiloto juga mampu menormalkan kondisi tubuh meskipun terjadi infeksi.Kata kunci : Sambiloto, Andrographis paniculata Nees., Immunomodulator, Andrographolide

Abstract

AbstractTaxonomic study of beard moss (Usnea spp) at Priangan, was carried out by using morphological, anatomical and chemical's characters. Sample have taken from five area, they are Jayagiri conifer forest (Bandung), Rancakalong conifer forest (Sumedang), Kamojang conifer forest ( Garut), Munjul conifer forest (Ciamis) and Cigorowong conifer forest ( Tasikmalaya). Morphological observation was done on thallus and anatomical observation in medulla, axis and ratio of cortex : medulla : axis. While chemical analysis was conducting by colour test and crystal test. The identification result founded the eleven species, i.e. Usnea baileyi, U.ceratina, U.cornuta, U.filipendula, U. flexilis, U. flexuosa, U.florida, U.glabrata, U.hirta, U. longissima and U. trichodea. Morphological characters that can be used for distinguished of eleven species of Usnea are medulla shape, axisshape, radius of cortex, radius of medulla and diameter of axis. Chemical characters distinguished are reagent K,C, KC and IKI. Based on that characters the key identification have made for Usnea species founded at Priangan and de3scription were arranged for genus and species level. Phenetic analysis done by using NTSY Spc versi 2.0, resulted a Dendrogram which the eleven species of Beard moss can be divided into three branches. The first branch consist of U.baileyi and U.ceratina, the second are U.cornuta, U.flexilis, U.florida, U. flexuosa and U.glabrata and the third branch branch consist of U.filipendula, U.hirta, U.trichodea and U.longissima. Abstract

Artikel ini mengulas berbagai jenis tanaman yang memiliki aktivitas sebagai antivirus terhadap Influenza A (H1N1). Virus Influenza A (H1N1) merupakan penyakit influenza yang sangat parah jika dibandingkan dengan Influenza B dan C. Dalam pencegahan dan pengobatannya dilakukan dengan pemberian vaksinasi dan antivirus. Tetapi dalam penerapannya hal itu dibatasi, karena dapat terjadi mutasi virus sehingga timbul strain virus baru yang resisten dan tidak dapat dihindari. Oleh karena itu, penggunaan antivirus herbal dari suatu ekstrak tanaman dijadikan sebagai solusi. Keunggulan antivirus herbal yaitu dapat menghambat replikasi virus, inaktivasi virus secara langsung, mengurangi resiko resistensi, dapat digunakan dengan dosis relatif rendah, memiliki efek sinergis, serta memiliki efek samping kecil sehingga relatif aman digunakan. Dalam artikel ini, telah diulas dalam bentuk tabel data mengenai lima jenis ekstrak tanaman yang mempunyai aktivitas sebagai antivirus herbal terhadap Influenza A (H1N1) yang telah diidentifikasi secara in vitro dan in vivo dalam pengujian biologis yang berbeda.Kata Kunci : Antivirus herbal, Influenza A (H1N1), Uji In vivo dan In vitro

Abstract

Salah satu upaya untuk mengurangi resistensi, pemberian antibiotika harus berdasarkan pola bakteri penyebab infeksi dan kepekaan bakteri terhadap antibiotik. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pola bakteri, sensitivitas dan resistensinya terhadap antibiotika di RSUD Dr. Slamet Kabupaten Garut. Sampel bakteri diambil dari sputum pasien ISPA pneumonia yang dirawat di ruang rawat inap Zamrud RSUD. Dr. Slamet Garut. Prosedur mikrobiologi standar yang digunakan yaitu analisis Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) untuk mengidentifikasi gen resistensi sedangkan uji difusi disk digunakan untuk menentukan pola resistensi antimikroba dari sputum pasien ISPA penumonia. Dari sampel sputum yang diteliti teridentifikasi bakteri Staphylococcus aureus. S. aureus sudah resisten terhadap antibiotika amoksisilin,  sefadroksil dan sulfametoksazol serta mengalami penurunan aktivitas terhadap antibiotika trimetoprim, seftriakson dan sefotaksim
