Abstract

An investigation on diversity monitoring of ginger family (Zingiberaceae) was carried out on Jengok, Banjaran, Kranji, and Pelus riverbanks in Purwokerto. This study required conventional surveys and repeated measurements to identify and to evaluate changes. Twelve permanent plots were established in 1990 covering the north, central, and south parts of the rivers. The ginger vegetation in 2005 was compared with data taken in 1990, 1997, and 2003. The result of this study showed that the number of spesies in most of the bank reached the peak in 2003 then decreased again in 2005.

Abstract

Taxonomy is a branch of biology which is supported by palynological evidence. Palynology concerns to pollen and spore. The purposes of this research were to figure out plant diversity of Pliocene based on fossil pollens and to reconstruct vegetation and climates of Pliocene based on plant diversity. A survey has been conducted in Bungkanel, Purbalingga. Sampling was done for 25 sediment samples and then they were crushed, carbonate-, sulfide-, fluoride-, and organic-separated, centrifuged, oxidizing, alkali water-bathed, and mounted. Pollen and spore were identified in the laboratory with a binocular microscope. Data were analyzed descriptively, clustering, biostratigraphic Ranging-Zone, AP-NAP-Spore and PMI analysis has been done to determine the taxon, sediment age, paleo-diversity, paleo-vegetation and paleo-climate. The result showed that there were sixteen genera and three species of terrestrial palynomorph; two phyla, one class and one order of marine palynomorph. The Age of Pliocene was indicated by the appearance of Podocarpus imbricatus and Stenochlaena laurifolia (Stenochlaenidites papuanus).  The results of clustering analysis showed that there were six groups of samples with Shannon-Wienner H’ diversity index of <2. However, the palinological diagram showed that there were three local zones of vegetation-alteration. In addition, AP/NAP/Spores and PMI indicated that there were six zones of climate change.

Abstract

Baturraden Botanical Garden is a complex ecosystem. Its natural resources, including several species of fern, provide an opportunity to be managed sustainably so it can be used to fulfill a long term of public need. This research was aimed to know the diversity of fern species and its potential as ornamental plants. The research was using survey method. The data was analyzed using descriptive comparative analysis. Species identification was performed by comparing the samples with herbarium specimens and also using identification keys. During the observation, 26 species of fern were found, which is consisted of 14 terrestrial species and 12 epiphyte species. Nephrolepis bisserata (Sw.) Schott. was terrestrial species with highest individual number and widest dispersion, whereas terrestrial species with smallest individual number and the narrowest distribution was Blechnum orientale Linn. Epiphytic fern species with highest individual number and widest dispersion was Nephrolepis falcata (Cap.) C. Chr., whereas epiphytic species with smallest individual number and narrowest distribution was Davallia triphylla Hk. From 26 fern species which were found at Baturraden Botanical Garden, 22 fern species were potential as ornamental plant which can be grew up either on land, pot or on host plant.

Abstract

Chrysanth (Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat.) atau dikenal sebagai Seruni merupakan tanaman herba hias. Chrysanth merupakan salah satu komoditas tanaman hias utama yang memiliki keragaman kultivar, seperti dapat dilihat dari bentuk dan variasi warna bunganya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki keragaman dan hubungan kesamaan kultivar chrysanth. Metode penelitian yang digunakan purposive sampling. Data dari chrysanth kultivar morfologi dan anatomi daun karakter dianalisis berdasarkan hubungan kemiripan dengan UPGMA (Unweighted Pasangan Metode Group dengan Arithmetic mean) metode menggunakan 5.05 software MEGA. Berdasarkan penelitian, delapan kultivar chrysanth diperoleh, yaitu C. morifolium Cut Nyak Dien, C. morifolium Dewi Ratih, C. morifolium Dwina Kencana, C. morifolium Dwina Pelangi, C. morifolium Elora , C. morifolium Pasopati , C. morifolium Puspita Nusantara , dan C. morifolium Swarna Kencana . Kesamaan terdekat adalah antara C. morifolium Dwina Kencana dan C. morifolium Dwina Pelangi kultivar, dengan indeks ketidaksamaan terkecil 0,152, sedangkan kesamaan paling jauh adalah antara C. morifolium Elora dan C. morifolium Swarna Kencana kultivar, dengan indeks ketidaksamaan terbesar 2,256.

Abstract

A study entitled "A Case Study of Plant Utilization as Traditional Medicines by Indigenous Community of Kampung Naga" has been conducted from April-July 2010. The aims of the research to determine the type, how to used and to conserve plants used for medicine by the indegenous community in Kampung Naga. The research method was survey and the data collection was done with census method, interview and questionnaire for the tribe (kuncen), midwife (paraji), community leaders and residents of Kampung Naga.  The results of the research showed that there 108 plants species including to 50 families used as medicinal plants. The organ and nutritious plants used as medicine are the roots, rhizomes, tubers, stems, seeds, flowers, fruits, and leaves, or the whole plant parts. The way to use the medicinal plants includes boiing, just posted, and immediately eaten after steaming. The plants used as medicine were obtained from the gardens, forests, yards, roadside, moor and fields. The conservation efforts undertaken by the community of Kampung Naga consist of plant planting and cultural conservation.

Abstract

A study on the diversity and phenetics of Syzygium in Purwokerto has been conducted. The aim of this study was to find out the diversity and phenetic relationship of Syzygium cultivars. The method used in this study is explorative survey, by recording all available cultivars.  The data were analysed descriptively and the data were analysed with UPGMA. The result of this study showed that there were four spesies dan seven cultivars of Syzygium namely S. aqueum, S. samarangense including cultivar S. samarangense ‘Kaget Merah’, ‘Kaget Putih’, ‘Kaget Hijau’, ‘Madura Putih’, ‘Delima’, ‘Lilin Merah’, ‘Lilin Merah Jambu’, S. malaccense dan S. jambos. The results of phenetic analysis showed that there were four groups namely S. samarangense, A. aqueum, S. malaccense, and S. jambos.

Abstract

Salak or snake fruit (Salacca zalacca) or salak is a kind of popular fruit originated from Sumatra and Java. There are many cultivars including both the wild and the hybrid ones. One of many cultivars namely S. zalacca ‘Kelapa’ was observed for their distribution.  This cultivar is considered to be unusual because it has only a few spines on its petioles. This cultivar was previously found only in Karangasem Bali especially in the subdistrict of Sibetan, Selat, and Rendang and in Batujajar in West Java.  A new record was found in Banjarnegara especially in Sokanandi Village. A map of the distribution of this cultivar is presented.

Abstract

Watermelon [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai] is a plant of Cucurbitaceae family which is include in an annual plant. In Indonesia, watermelon has diversity in its cultivar as can be seen from the stem, leaf, flower, and fruit morphology. This research is aimed to find out the diversity and the similarity relationship of watermelon cultivar in Nusawungu, Cilacap. A survey method was used in this research by taking the samples with a random sampling technique (purposive sampling). This research parameter consisted of stem, leaf, flower, and fruit morphology of each watermelon cultivar. Data of watermelon cultivar morphology were analyzed descriptively and then analyzed based on the similarity relationship with UPGMA method (Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean) using the MEGA 5.05 software. The result of this research showed that there were five watermelon cultivars namely C. lanatus ‘Farmers Giant’, C. lanatus ‘Nina’, C. lanatus ‘Black Orange’, C. lanatus ‘Torpedo’, and C. lanatus ‘Bintang’. There were two groups of watermelons based on phenetic analysis namely group I consisting of C. lanatus ‘Torpedo’, C. lanatus ‘Black Orange’, and C. lanatus ‘Nina’ cultivars, group II consisting of C. lanatus ‘Bintang’ and C. lanatus ‘Farmers Giant’. The closest similarity was between C. lanatus ‘Farmers Giant’ and C. lanatus ‘Bintang’ cultivars with the dissimilarity index of 0,516. While the most distantly related was between C. lanatus ‘Nina’ and C. lanatus ‘Farmers Giant’ cultivars with the dissimilarity index of 2,338.
