Abstract

This paper presents a parallel energy-sharing control strategy for the application of fuel cell hybrid vehicles (FCHVs). The hybrid source discussed consists of a fuel cells (FCs) generator and energy storage units (ESUs) which composed by the battery and ultracapacitor (UC) modules. A direct current (DC) bus is used to interface between the energy sources and the electric vehicles (EV) propulsion system (loads). Energy sources are connected to the DC bus using of power electronics converters. A total of six control loops are designed in the supervisory system in order to regulate the DC bus voltage, control of current flow and to monitor the state of charge (SOC) of each energy storage device at the same time. Proportional plus integral (PI) controllers are employed to regulate the output from each control loop referring to their reference signals. The proposed energy control system is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink environment. Results indicated that the proposed parallel energy-sharing control system is capable to provide a practical hybrid vehicle in respond to the vehicle traction response and avoids the FC and battery from overstressed at the same time.

Abstract

Researches on home robots have been increasing enormously. There has always existed a continuous research effort on problems of anthropomorphic robots which is now called humanoid robots. Currently, robotics has evolved to the point that different branches have reached a remarkable level of maturity, that neural network and fuzzy logic are the main artificial intelligence as intelligent control on the robotics. Despite all this progress, while aiming at accomplishing work-tasks originally charged only to humans, robotic science has perhaps quite naturally turned into the attempt to create artificial men. It is true that artificial men or android humanoid robots open certainly very broad prospects. This “robot” may be viewed as a personal helper, and it will be called a home-robot, or personal robot. This is main reason why the two special sections are issued in the TELKOMNIKA sequentially.

Abstract

In this paper, a novel microwave sensor with high Q-factor for oil sensing is analyzed and investigated. The new design is based on a gap waveguide cavity resonator (GWCR). To characterize and evaluate the sample, the oil under tested (OUT) is injected into a Teflon tube, which is passing through the microfluidic channel that is located in the middle of the cavity where the electric field concentrates. The results show that the proposed sensor has a high Q-factor of 4832. Moreover, the proposed design has the ability to sense and detect different types of oils with a small variation of permittivities such as Fish oil, Coconut oil, Olive oil, Linseed oil and Castor oil. The permittivity equation is extracted using the polynomial fitting method to define unknown dielectric properties of the OUT. The results show that the evaluated permittivity using the proposed sensor has a good agreement with the ideal permittivity. Therefore, the proposed sensor is a good candidate for oil processing in food industries.

Abstract

This paper presents a study on a new full bridge series resonant converter (SRC) with wide zero voltage switching (ZVS) range, and higher output voltage. The high frequency transformer is connected in series with the LC series resonant tank. The tank inductance is therefore increased; all switches having the ability to turn on at ZVS, with lower switching frequency than the LC tank resonant frequency. Moreover, the step-up high frequency (HF) transformer design steps are introduced in order to increase the output voltage to overcome the gain limitation of the conventional SRC. Compared to the conventional SRC, the proposed converter has higher energy conversion, able to increase the ZVS range by 36%, and provide much higher output power. Finally, the a laboratory prototypes of the both converters with the same resonant tank parameters and input voltage are examined based on 1 and 2.2 kW power respectively, for veryfing  the reliability of the performance and the operation principles of both converters.

Abstract

An impedance source buck-boost converter (BBC) prototype for renewable energy (RE) application in the transportation industry is proposed. Its functions include stabilizing the variable output voltage of the RE sources such as fuel cells and photovoltaic cells. The converter utilized a topology of DC-DC quasi-impedance source converters (q-ZSCs) to achieve the gain curve of the BBC. With BBC gain curve, the converter earned advantages over the two other classes of non-isolated DC-DC q-ZSCs. These advantages include ecient buck-boost capability at the ecient duty ratio range of 0:35-0:65 and continuous and non-zero gain at the ecient duty ratio range. The converter's q-ZSC topology implies using two capacitors and two inductors. These two capacitors and inductors formed two separate LC filters that provides second order filtering compared to the first order filtering in BBC. Its other advantages over the traditional BBC include elim-ination of dead and overlap-time, simple contol and permitting higher switching frequency operation. The converter is capable of utilizing high switching frequency and asymmetric components to achieve BBC gain by using smaller components to reduce cost, weight and size. Its simulation response and that of a correspond-ing BBC for some given specifications were compared, presented and analyzed. An experimental scaled-down prototype was also developed to confirm its opera-tion. Analysis of the converters responses comfirmed the prototype's second order filtering as against the first order filtering in traditional BBC.

Abstract

Distributed power system (DPS) distributes power amongst processing units such as power electronics converters with DC system. Due to the increasing usage of power converters in DPS system, the system becomes unstable and the converter tends to draw constant power needed by the load of the system. Constant power load (CPL) characteristic has negative input impedance that could produce instability problems in the DC bus system. Passive damping network which consists of series RC damping circuit was connected in parallel to the DC bus system with the purpose to reduce the instability. The passive damper was designed, simulated with MATLAB/Simulink and verified experimentally with different values of CPL power levels and input voltage changes. The obtained simulation results show that simple DC system with constant power load was successfully stabilized by the installation of the passive damping network. The experimental set up was also conducted to validate of the proposed technique, and the obtained results were in excellent agreement with the theoretical parts of the project.

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of virtual-flux direct power control (VFDPC) technique for the three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) ac-dc converter. The proposed VFDPC is developed by assuming the grid voltage and converter line filters quantities are related to a virtual three-phase ac motor. The controller works with less number of sensors by eliminating the voltage sensors used for measuring the three-phase grid voltage. The grid virtual flux which is proportional to the grid voltage will be estimated from the information of converter switching states, line current, and dc-link output voltage. Several analyses are performed in order to study the steady state and dynamic performance of the converter, particularly during the load and DC voltage output reference variations. The proportional integral (PI) controller at the outer voltage control loop of VFDPC is tuned properly and the entire PWM ac-dc converter system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink to ensure the dc output voltage follow the desired output voltage under steady state and dynamic conditions. Ac-dc converter utilizing the proposed VFDPC is able to generate three-phase input current waveforms that are almost sinusoidal with low harmonics contents which is less than 5% and near unity power factor (pf) operation.

Abstract

This paper describe the single chip mode prototype of automatic paper and price counting tool in old type photocopying machine based on AT89S51 microcontroller. The experiment showed the prototype had been design could count how many paper out from photocopying machine and then calculate its price. The number of the paper and calculation result in rupiahs was displayed at LCD screen. Abstract

This study highlights a new construction of SEPIC DC-DC converter. The proposed converter aims for some features such as high voltage gain, continuous input current and reduce stress on the power switch. In addition, the circuit construction ensurs the simplicity in design along with signicant cost saving, since its components are readily available and smaller in size compared to the off-shelf components. This type of converter can adjust the DC voltage to maintain its output voltage to be constant. Typically, SEPIC operated in equipment that uses battery and also in wide range input voltage DC power supply. The converter is designed for renewable energy application where it is able to regulate the output voltage of the Photovoltaic (PV). The converter has been analysed based on different switching frequencies and duty cycle. Thus the outcome of the proposed converter can be achieved by using D=0.45 and fs=30 kHz. The proposed converter is supplied by 26V as an input voltage and produces 300V output and gives 94% of efficiency.
