Abstract

Character selection information is essential for plant breeding program. SSH3 tomato genotype (shade-loving genotype), 4974 (shade-sensitive genotype), and F2 population derived from ?SSH3 x 4974? were evaluated to estimate the heritability, correlation, direct and indirect effects between yield and various yield atributting characters in tomato under shading and normal condition at Pasir Kuda Station, Bogor Agriculture University, West Java, Indonesia from July until October 2016. The results showed that plant height, leaf length, leaf width, leaf weight, specific leaf weight, fruit weight, fruit number per plant and fruit weight per plant had high heritability under normal condition, while plant height, fruit set, fruit number of plant and fruit weight per plant had high heritability under shading condition. High direct positive effect on yield per plant was resulted from fruit weight and fruit number of plant under shading and normal condition, while leaf width had direct positive effect on fruit weighr per plant only under shading condition. High indirect positive effect on yield per plant was resulted from fruit set, fruit length and fruit diameter under shading and normal condition, while plant heigh had high indirect effect on yield per plant only under shading condition. Fruit set, fruit weight, and fruit number per plant characters were potential to be used as character selection for tomato productivity in normal conditions. Abstract

Assembling plant variety requires genetic information about the concerned traits. One way to obtain genetic information is through estimating genetic component and heritability. This experiment aims to obtain information varians component variety and heritability in 2 populations of bird pepper. Each population P1, P2, and F1 was planted with 40 plants, BCP1 and BCP 2 was planted with 100 plants and F2 was planted with 300 plants. Results in IPB C285 x IPB C290 population show the heritability broad sense with height category for all characters except fruit diameter. The number fruits per plant and fruit thickness has the highest category for heritability narrow sense. Results in IPB C321 x IPB C290 population heretability broad sense with hight category for all characters except weight per fruit. Fruit length was included in the high category for narrow sense heritability. The ratio of additive varians was greater than non additive varians in IPB C285 x IPB C290 population for number fruit per plant, weight per fruit, fruit length, fruit diameter, fruit thickness and harvest time while in IPB C321 x IPB C290 population number fruit per plant, fruit length, fruit thickness and fruit diameter. The selection method that can be used in both populations was the pedigree method so that selection activities can be carried out in early generation. The population IPB C285 x IPB C290 pedigree selection method was carried out on number fruits per plant and weight per fruit whereas in IPB C321 x IPB C290 population, pedigree selection method was carried out on fruit length. Abstract

ABSTRACTCultivation of chili plants in the tropical greenhouse requires cooling as a solution of high temperature inside the greenhouse. One of the cooling system can be applied is root zone cooling. The aim of this research is to apply root zone cooling system to cultivation of chili plant in tropical greenhouse with substrate system, and to know the influence root zone cooling system on growth and productivity of chili plant. Plants are cultivated with a hydroponics substrate system using a drip irrigation system where the cooling pipe is buried inside the substrate medium. First treatment is cooling the root zone with cooled water and the substrate temperature of root zone cooling was 14.1-26.9 0C (CH treatment). Second treatment is cooling the root zone with no cooled water (ambient temperature), and the substrate temperature was 24.8-34.2 0C (NC treatment). The air temperature inside greenhouse was 29.4 0C and 24.7 0C, day and night. Due to lack of intensity of sunlight into the greenhouse, the plants sustain etiolating. However CH treatment produced higher fruit weight per plant compared with NC treatment. The weight of fruit per plant is 873.60 g and 546.00 g, for CH and NC respectively. The fruit size in the CH treatment also produced longer and heavier fruits than the NC treatment.Keywords: hydroponics of pepper, productivity, root temperatureABSTRAKBudidaya tanaman cabai di dalam rumah tanaman daerah beriklim tropis membutuhkan pendinginan sebagai solusi tingginya suhu udara di dalam rumah tanaman. Pendinginan yang dapat diterapkan salah satunya yaitu dengan pendinginan terbatas di daerah perakaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menerapkan teknik pendinginan daerah perakaran pada budidaya tanaman cabai di dalam rumah tanaman iklim tropika basah dengan sistem substrat, serta untuk mengetahui pengaruh pendinginan daerah perakaran pada pertumbuhan dan produktivitas tanaman cabai. Tanaman dibudidayakan dengan sistem hidroponik substrat dan sistem irigasi tetes yang di dalam media tanam dibenamkan pipa pendingin. Perlakuan pertama adalah pendinginan daerah perakaran dengan air yang didinginkan dan suhu media tanam yang didinginkan berkisar antara 14.1-26.9 0C (perlakuan CH). Perlakuan kedua adalah pendinginan daerah perakaran dengan air yang tidak didinginkan (suhu lingkungan) dengan kisaran suhu media tanam sebesar 24.8-34.2 0C (perlakuan NC), dengan suhu udara rata-rata 29.4 0C pada siang hari dan 24.7 0C pada malam hari. Tanaman mengalami etiolasi akibat kurangnya intensitas cahaya matahari yang masuk ke dalam rumah tanaman. Perlakuan CH menghasilkan bobot buah per tanaman yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan perlakuan NC. Bobot buah per tanaman sebesar 873.60 g dan 546.00 g, untuk CH dan NC berturut-turut. Ukuran buah pun pada perlakuan CH menghasilkan buah yang lebih panjang dan lebih berat dari pada perlakuan NC.Kata kunci: hidroponik cabai, produktivitas, suhu zona perakaran

Abstract

ABSTRACTAphis gossypii Glover is one of the major pests of chili pepper and can cause damage up to 65% when the population is not controlled. The objective of this research was to elucidate the genetic control of resistance inheritance character of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) to A. gossypii. Set a population of six generations (P1, P2, F1, F2, BCP1, BCP2 was established from a cross between IPB C20 (resistant parent) with IPB C313 (susceptible parent). Choice test based experiments was applied with two aphids per leaf on a five-week-old seedlings. The results showed that based on number of individual aphids per plant, segregation of resistance and susceptibility characters in the F2 fitted to the normal distribution, indicated that resistance controlled by polygenic genes. Subsequently based of scaling test analysis, resistance characteristics based on the number of aphids per plant categorized overdominan against resistant parent and controlled by many genes. Genes effect for controlling resistance to A. gossypii infestation was recessive. Broad-sense heritability was relatively large for the infestation of aphids per plant, aphids per leaf, and winged aphids while the narrow sense heritability relatively very low on the infestation aphids per plant and per leaf, indicated by the dominant variance was greater than additive variance.Keywords: action genes, Capsicum annuum, dominant varience, heritabilityABSTRAKKutudaun Aphis gossypii Glover adalah salah satu hama pengganggu penting dalam produksi tanaman cabai. Saat populasi kutudaun tidak terkendali dapat menyebabkan kerusakan tanaman cabai hingga 65%. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mempelajari kendali genetik pewarisan sifat ketahanan cabai (Capsicum annuum L.) terhadap infestasi A. gossypii. Set populasi enam generasi (P1, P2, F1, F2, BCP1, BCP2) dibentuk dari persilangan tetua P1 (IPB C20) dengan nilai infestasi rendah dan tetua P2 (IPB C313) yang bernilai infestasi tinggi. Metode skrining yang digunakan adalah choice test. Jumlah kutudaun yang diinfestasikan adalah dua ekor per daun pada bibit berumur lima minggu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa karakter ketahanan cabai terhadap infestasi kutudaun berdasarkan jumlah A. gossypii per tanaman ialah tetua rentan overdominan terhadap tetua tahan dan dikendalikan oleh banyak gen. Gen-gen pengendali ketahanan terhadap infestasi A. gossypii adalah resesif. Nilai heritabilitas arti luas tergolong besar untuk infestasi kutudaun per tanaman, kutudaun per daun, dan kutudaun bersayap, sedangkan heritabilitas arti sempit tergolong sangat rendah pada infestasi kutudaun per tanaman dan per daun yang ditunjukkan oleh proposi ragam dominan lebih besar dibandingkan ragam aditif.Kata kunci: aksi gen, Capsicum annuum, heritabilitas, ragam dominan

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of the study was to determine the genetic variability and heritability for some characters of twenty tomato genotypes across at two locations. The experimental design used was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), three replications as a block was nested in location (at two locations i.e Ciawi and Lembang). Plant materials were twenty genotypes: 42D, 50D, 96D, 61I, 40D, 21D, 59I, 57D, 40I, 102D, 58I, 59D, 94D, 43D, 60I, 99D, 100D, 98D, 04I dan Tora. Results indicated that time of harvest, fruit weight, number of fruit per plant, fruit length and fruit width had broad genetic variability. The characters of yield per plant and fruit firmness had narrow genetic variability. Broad-sense heritability was high for all observed characters. Genotype 42D can be used to develop high yielding tomato for small fruit size group, 59D and Tora for medium fruit size group, 97D and 94D for big fruit size group.Keywords: broad, fruit, genetic, narrow, size, twentyABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan informasi keragaman genetik dan heritabilitas karakter hasil dan komponen hasil tomat (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) di dua lokasi. Percobaan dilakukan dengan menggunakan Rancangan Kelompok Lengkap Teracak (RKLT) dua faktor dengan tiga ulangan. Ulangan tersarang dalam lokasi (dua lokasi yaitu Ciawi dan Lembang). Materi genetik yang digunakan adalah 20 galur murni generasi F-7 yaitu 42D, 50D, 96D, 61I, 40D, 21D, 59I, 57D, 40I, 102D, 58I, 59D, 94D, 43D, 60I, 99D, 100D, 98D, 04I dan Tora. Keragaman genetik yang luas terdapat pada karakter umur panen, bobot buah, jumlah buah per tanaman, panjang buah dan diameter buah, sedangkan keragaman genetik sempit terdapat pada karakter bobot buah per tanaman dan kekerasan buah. Semua karakter yang diamati mempunyai nilai heritabilitas arti luas yang tinggi. Genotipe 42D dapat digunakan untuk mengembangkan varietas tomat berdaya hasil tinggi untuk kelompok ukuran buah kecil. Genotipe 59D dan Tora untuk kelompok ukuran buah sedang dan genotipe 97D dan 94D untuk kelompok ukuran buah besar.Kata kunci: buah, dua puluh, genetik, luas, sempit, ukuran

Abstract

ABSTRACTHypocotyl and cotyledon are potentially used as effective morphological markers since they can be detected earlier. Information on inheritance of tomato hypocotyl and cotyledon was not available. The aims of this research was to study the inheritance of qualitative and quantitative characters of tomato hypocotyl and cotyledon. This research used six population, P1 green hypocotyl (IPB T64), P2 purple hypocotyl (IPB T3), F1, F1R, BCP1, BCP2, and F2. Analysis of qualitative characters used Mendelian and gene action of quantitative characters used joint scaling test. The results of Mendelian indicated that the character of hypocotyl color was controlled by two genes of dominant-recessive epistasis. The gene controlling purple color was dominant to the green color gene. Based on the F2 distribution test, hypocotyl length, cotyledon length and width were controlled by polygenes. There was no influence of maternal effect. The results of the joint scaling test showed gene action of hypocotyl length was controlled by additive gene with influence of additive-dominant epistasis. Length and width of the cotyledon were controlled by additive gene and influence of duplicate epistasis effect. All characters had high level of broad sense heritability and medium level of narrow sense heritability.Keywords: cotyledone, gene action, heritability, hypocotyle, morphology marker.ABSTRAKHipokotil dan kotiledon berpotensi untuk dijadikan sebagai marka morfologi yang efektif karena dapat dideteksi lebih dini. Informasi pola pewarisan karakter hipokotil dan kotiledon tomat belum banyak tersedia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pola pewarisan karakter kualitatif dan kuantitatif dari hipokotil dan kotiledon tomat sebagai marka morfologi pada tahap awal pertumbuhan tanaman. Penelitian ini menggunakan enam set populasi yaitu P1 hipokotil hijau (IPB T64), P2 hipokoti ungu (IPB T3), F1, F1R, BCP1, BCP2, dan F2. Karakter kualitatif menggunakan analisis Mendel dan pendugaan aksi gen karakter kuantitatif menggunakan analisis skala gabungan. Hasil analisis Mendel menunjukkan bahwa karakter warna hipokotil dikendalikan oleh dua pasang gen epistasis dominan-resesif. Gen pengendali warna ungu bersifat dominan terhadap warna hijau pada hipokotil tomat. Panjang hipokotil, panjang dan lebar kotiledon dikendalikan oleh banyak gen dan tidak ada pengaruh tetua betina berdasarkan uji sebaran populai F2. Hasil analisis skala gabungan menunjukkan bahwa aksi gen karakter panjang hipokotil dikendalikan oleh gen aditif dengan pengaruh epistasis aditif dominan, panjang dan lebar kotiledon dikendalikan oleh gen dominan dengan pengaruh epistasis duplikat. Semua karakter yang diamati memiliki nilai heritabilitas arti luas dalam tingkatan yang tinggi, sedangkan heritabilitas arti sempit dalam tingkatan yang sedang.Kata kunci: aksi gen, heritabilitas, hipikotil, kotiledon, marka morfologi.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe aims of this research were to evaluate culture ability of 3 tomato genotypes through their androgenic response in callus induction and regeneration media. Completely randomized design with factorial arrangement and 5 replications were used. Treatments consisted of three genotypes (Tora, Ratna and hybrid variety Permata), six callus induction media in the first phase and three genotypes and two regeneration media. The result showed that hybrid variety Permata had the highest anther culture ability then others genotypes. Permata had the highest percentage of callus induction (27%) followed by Tora (14%) and Ratna (12%). The highest percentage of callus induction was shown in DBMI + 5 mg L-1 Kinetin + 2 mg L-1 NAA media (39.7%) followed by DBMII + 1 mg L-1 Kinetin + 2 mg L-1 NAA media (33.0%). Both genotypes and media gave low percentage of shoot induction. The percentage of shoot induction in hybrid variety Permata was 4.2% while in Tora was 2.1% and Ratna was 0%. The percentage of shoot induction in MS + 25 mg L-1 Zeatin was 2.8% while in MS + 1 mg L-1 Zeatin + 0.125 mg L-1 IAA was 1.4%.Keywords: androgenesis, auxin, cytokinine, in vitro, medium, tomato ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya kultur antera tiga genotipe tomat melalui percobaan induksi pembentukan kalus dan regenerasi tunas. Percobaan dirancang menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap faktorial dengan lima ulangan. Bahan tanam yang digunakan ialah tomat varietas Tora, Ratna dan varietas hibrida Permata. Media yang digunakan adalah 6 media induksi kalus dan 2 media regenerasi tunas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tomat varietas hibrida Permata memiliki daya kultur antera yang lebih baik dibandingkan genotipe lainnya. Permata memiliki persentase jumlah kalus 27% lebih tinggi dibandingkan Tora (14%) dan Ratna (12%). Media yang paling baik menginduksi kalus adalah media DBMI + 5 mg L-1 Kinetin + 2 mg L-1 NAA (39%) dan DBMII + 1 mg L-1 Kinetin + 2 mg L-1 NAA (33%). Baik genotipe maupun media yang digunakan menghasilkan jumlah tunas yang rendah. Persentase induksi tunas varietas hibrida Permata 4.2% lebih tinggi dibandingkan Tora (2.1%) dan Ratna (0%). Persentase induksi tunas media MS + 0.25 mg L-1 Zeatin (2.8%) lebih tinggi dibandingkan media MS + 1 mg L-1 Zeatin + 0.125 mg L-1 IAA (1.4%).Kata kunci: androgenesis, auksin, in vitro, media, sitokinin, tomat

Abstract

Plant biochemical resistance towards virus infection can be evaluated through measurement of salicylic acid accumulation and peroxidase concentration. A research was conducted to study biochemical resistance of chillipepper to infection of Pepper yellow leaf curl Begomovirus (PYLCV) the causal agent of pepper yellow leaf curl disease. Virus inoculation was done using insect vector, Bemisia tabaci. Salicylic acid accumulation and peroxidase concentration on 6 chillipepper genotypes (35C2, IPB C15, IPB C26, IPB C10, IPB C14, dan IPB C12) was measured 120 h after inoculation. The results showed that salicylic acid accumulation and peroxidase concentration were higher on plants after virus infection. Susceptible genotypes (35C2, IPB C15, IPB C26) tend to have higher salicylic acid accumulation and peroxidase concentration than those of resistant genotype (IPB C12). Positive correlation was observed between biochemical resistance (salicylic acid accumulation) and structural resistance (length of palisade meshophyll cell).Key words: Begomovirus, Pepper yellow leaf curl virus, peroxide enzyme, resistance mechanism, salicylic acid

Abstract

This research intended to evaluate the yield of 15 IPB chili pepper lines from Plant Genetics and Breeding Division, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, IPB, and was compared then with 5 commercial varieties. This research also intended to evaluate its resistance to anthracnose. This research was done from January until July 2011 at Bogor. The main character that evaluated was yield component and resistant to character. IPB019015, IPB110005, IPB120005, IPB009019, IPB002046, and IPB001004 had yield ability better than commercial varieties. Abstract

The objective of this research was to evaluate yield potential of 12 sweet corn promising hybrids from Plant    Breeding Program (Bogor Agricultural University) and Indonesian Cereals Research Institute colection. This research was conducted at experimental field Indonesian Cereals Research Institute, in Maros, South Sulawesi, from June to August 2011. The genotypes used were : IM-12, IM-13, IM-14, IM-15, IM-16, IM-23, IM-24, IM-25, IM-34, IM-35, IM-45, IM-55, and three comercial varieties i.e. Super Sweet Corn, Sweet Boy, and Talenta. The design of this research was Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications. Data was analyzed with F-test then continued with Dunnett test (?=5%). Selection index was used for choosing the best genotype. Interaction between two factors, i.e. genotype and year, was analyzed with combined variance analysis using primary data from this research and secondary data from last year research (done from April to June 2010). Broad sense heritability was estimated from this two-factors analysis. The result from this research was the sweet corn productivity was not affected by genotype, but affected by genotype and year interaction. On the other hand, total soluble solid was affected by genotype, but not affected by interaction between genotype and year. Among characters evaluated, total soluble solid had highest broad sense heritability. Based on selection index, IM-16 was a promising hybrid and can be developed to be new commercial variety.Keywords: yield trial, sweet corn hybrid, selection index, broad sense heritability
