Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze the risk factors for anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia. The study design was a cross-sectional study. All of data used in this study was from Basic Health Research 2013, Ministry of Health. The data collected include age, education, birth number, parity, pregnancy spacing, antenatal care, and nutritional status (chronic energy deficiency). The number of subjects was 452 pregnant women. The chi-square test was applied to analyze correlation on dependent and independent variable. Logistic regression was applied to analyze determinants of anemia in pregnant women. The results showed that there were 38.1% pregnant women in Indonesia who had anemia (Hb<11 g/dl). The prevalence of pregnant women with anemia in rural and urban were 37.9% and 38.2% respectively. Bivariate analysis showed that age, education, birth number, parity, pregnancy spacing, and antenatal care were not significantly associated with anemia. Main determinant of anemia in pregnant women was nutritional status (chronic energy deficiency; OR=1.975; 95%CI:1.279-3.049).

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe research aimed to assess the impact of interventions to the behaviour changes of household food consumption and to search the role of community institutions in accelerating the achievement of the millennium eco-village. The study involved thirty households in Desa Petir, Dramaga Subdistrict, District of Bogor (15 agricultural and 15 non agricultural-households). Pre and post test method was used to analyze the behaviour change, and focused group discussions were conducted to explore initiatives of the community group toward eco-village. The results indicated the changes of expenditure proportion for food and non food. At the agricultural households, changes are from 61.7% to 53.9%, whereas in the non agricultural household, the changes are from 59.9% to 41%. Food consumption for under five children become more diverse, nutritious, and balanced. Life Style on Clean Life and Health (PHBS) on family farmers and non farmers become better. Cooperation between community groups, local leaders, the government, and facilitators could strengthen institution to enable real action towards the millennium eco-village.Key words: food consumption, MDGs, social institutionsABSTRAKTujuan penelitian secara umum adalah untuk mengembangkan model millennium eco-village melalui intervensi prinsip eco-village. Sebanyak 30 keluarga terpilih sebagai subjek yang terdiri dari 15 keluarga petani (KP) dan 15 keluarga non-petani (KNP). Metode penelitian pre dan post digunakan untuk mengukur dampak intervensi terhadap perubahan pengetahuan, sikap, dan perilaku hidup bersih dan sehat (PHBS) dan peran kelembagaan masyarakat dalam percepatan pencapaian MDGs. Hasil menunjukkan perubahan pada proporsi pengeluaran pangan dan non pangan, yakni pada KP dari 61.7% menjadi 53.9%, sedangkan pada KNP dari 59.9% menjadi 41%. Meskipun perubahan antara kedua kelompok tersebut tidak signifikan, namun terdapat peningkatan dalam kesejahteraan petani. Terjadi perbaikan status gizi balita yang signifikan (p=0.009). Terjadi perubahan konsumsi pangan balita menjadi lebih Beragam, Bergizi, dan Berimbang (3B). PHBS pada KP maupun KNP menjadi lebih baik. Kerjasama antara kelompok masyarakat, pemimpin informal, pemerintah desa, dan kader desa dapat memperkuat kelembagaan sosial.Kata kunci: kelembagaan sosial, konsumsi pangan, MDGs

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this cross sectional study was to analyze the iron supplementation compliance and its influences on anemia prevalence among pregnant women in Tangerang. Structured interviews with pregnant women (n=91) were conducted between February and June 2015 in Tangerang, Banten. Duration of pregnancy, frequency of antenatal care (ANC) visits, and health worker?s practices on iron supplementation were correlated with women?s compliance to take the iron supplements (p<0.05). The prevalence of anemia was 42.9%. Poor compliance with iron supplementation was significantly associated with increased risk of anemia (OR=4.250; 95%CI: 1.425-12.671). This study implies the importance of enhancing the quality of ANC counselling to improve utilization of iron supplements and prevent anemia among pregnant women.Keywords: anemia, compliance, iron supplementation, pregnant womenABSTRAKPenelitian cross sectional study ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kepatuhan konsumsi suplemen besi dan pengaruhnya terhadap kejadian anemia pada ibu hamil di Kota Tangerang. Wawancara terstruktur kepada ibu hamil (n=91) dilakukan pada bulan Februari sampai Juni 2015 di Tangerang, Banten. Usia kehamilan, frekuensi kunjungan antenatal care (ANC), dan praktik petugas kesehatan dalam suplementasi besi berhubungan dengan kepatuhan ibu dalam mengonsumsi suplemen (p<0,05). Prevalensi anemia pada ibu hamil sebesar 42,9%. Ketidakpatuhan ibu dalam mengonsumsi suplemen besi meningkatkan risiko terjadinya anemia secara signifikan (OR=4,250; 95%CI: 1,425-12,671). Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to analyze the influence of blondo, snakehead fish flour and brown rice flour-based biscuit on the improvement of the nutritional status of anthropometric and serum albumin in malnourished children aged 3-5 years old. The design of this study was Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) with single blind pre-post study. The total subjects were 50 underfive children and divided into two groups. They were given the biscuits for 90 days. Before intervention, the body weight and serum albumin level of subjects were measured. The analysis method were paired t-test. The result showed that the difference between baseline and endline in control group for energy was 20.8±3.9 kcal, treatment group was 45.6±8.6 kcal, endline in control group for protein was 9.5±1 g, and treatment group was 16.6±2.4 g. The changing of weight in the control group from 11.7±0.8 kg increase to 13.3±1.1 kg, the weight of treatment group from 11.7±0.7 kg increase to 13.6±1.0 kg. The increasing of albumin level in the control group was 0.3±0.1 g/dL, and treatment group was 1.0±0.2 g/dL. The increase of weight for age and albumin level after consuming nutritious biscuits can increase and normalize the nutritional status of the malnourished children. It is concluded that intervention of the formulated biscuits for 90 days could increase the nutritional status (weight for age and weight for height) and the serum albumin level in the 3-5 years old malnourished children.Keywords: albumin, biscuit, blondo, brown rice flour, malnutrition, snakehead fish flourABSTRAKTujuan penelitian adalah menganalisis pengaruh biskuit berbasis blondo, ikan gabus (Channa striata), dan beras merah (Oryza nivara) terhadap perbaikan status gizi antropometri dan serum albumin anak gizi kurang usia 3-5 tahun. Desain penelitian Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) Single Blind Pre-post Study. Jumlah subjek 50 balita terbagi menjadi dua kelompok yaitu kelompok perlakuan dan kontrol. Kelompok perlakuan diberikan biskuit selama 90 hari. Sebelum dan setelah intervensi dilakukan pengukuran berat badan, tinggi badan, dan kadar serum albumin. Metode analisis menggunakan paired t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perubahan asupan energi antara awal dan akhir masa perlakuan pada kelompok kontrol adalah energi 20,8+3,9 kkal, kelompok perlakuan 45,6+8,6 kkal, perbedaan asupan protein kelompok kontrol 9,5+1 g dan kelompok perlakuan 16,6+2,4 g. Perubahan berat badan kelompok kontrol 11,7+0,8 kg menjadi 13,3+1,1 kg, kelompok perlakuan 11,7+0,7 kg menjadi 13,6+1,0 kg. Peningkatan albumin kelompok kontrol 0,3+0,1 g/dL, kelompok perlakuan 1,0+0,2 g/dL. Peningkatan berat badan dan albumin setelah mengonsumsi biskuit mampu memperbaiki status gizi anak gizi kurang menjadi normal. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa intervensi formula biskuit selama 90 hari dapat meningkatkan status gizi BB/U, BB/TB, dan kadar serum albumin anak gizi kurang usia 3-5 tahun.Kata kunci: albumin, biskuit, blondo, gizi kurang, tepung beras merah, tepung ikan gabus

Abstract

Fermented milk is a healthy product that has many benefits especially for human digestive tract. Manufacturing of probiotic fermented milk products as a functional food with a viable long shelf life needs to be developed. The purpose of this study was to formulate a dried fermented milk product using probiotic bacterias. The experimental design study was a complete random design with 4 treatments using different lactic acid bacteria (LAB): A1 (Streptococcus lactis: 0.5%); A2 (Streptococcus lactis: 0.25% and Lactobacillus casei: 0.25%); A3 (Streptococcus lactis: 0.25%, Lactobacillus bulgaricus: 0.125%, Streptococcus thermophiles: 0.125%); and A4 (Streptococcus lactis: 0.25% and Bifidobacterium longum: 0.25%). The highest level of hardness was A2 product and the highest level of tenderness is A1 product. Results of proximate analysis showed that dried fermented milk products had high levels of the protein, calcium, and phosphorus. Microbiological test results showed that the amount of lactic acid bacteria (BAL) in dried fermented milk products were eligible based on CODEX: 243 (2003). Statictical analysis using ANOVA in the hedonic quality test showed that the treatments were significantly different (p 0.05) on the attributes of color, aroma, hardness, and flavor except texture.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the model of farmer empowerment for household food security. Research design was cross sectional, it was conducted in Lebak District on March- November 2010. The data collected was household characteristics, consumption, level of farmer empowerment, and household food security. A systematic stratified random sampling was applied to select 95 farmer households. The path analysis was applied to analyze Model of Farmer Empowerment for Household Food Security. The results showed that 42.1% of farmer household are food insecure, and most of them (52.6%) have low level of empowerment. Model of farmer empowerment for food security can be started with the development and strengthening of megapolitan environment, followed by strengthening the means of production and capital.

Abstract

Repong is a forest management system which inherently conducted by community in Lampung Barat Coast. The objective of this research were to analyze: 1) household socio economic characteristics, 2) household food access, 3) household food security, 4) socio economic factors that influence household food security. This research was conducted by using retrospective design. The location was in Penengahan Village, Karya Penggawa Subdistrict, Lampung Barat District that chosen purposively with consideration that the village is the main village producing resin. The samples were 30 households who own repong and 30 households who do not own repong that chosen snowbally. The result of the research shows that: 1) almost all (93.3%) household who own repong work as farmer, while half of household who do not own repong work as farmer (46.67%), service (40%), and trading (13.33%); 2) there is 30% of household who own repong and 36.7% of household who do not own repong that have low food access; 3) only 33.33% of household who own repong and 23.33% household who do not own repong are food secure; 4) factors that significantly influence energy consumption level are number of household member, size of repong, and food expenditure; factors that significantly influence protein consumption are number of household member and food expenditure; factors that significantly influence consumption diversity are number of household member and size of repong.

Abstract

The aim this study was to analyze the determinant of positive deviance nutritional status of under five year old children in poor areas with low and high prevalence of undernutrition. Cross sectional study was conducted in the study using secondary data analysis taken from Basic Health Research 2007 in four provinces with determination samples criterias of high poverty levels according BPS 2009 (>14.15%) and low and high prevalence of undernutrition (+18.4%) which were analyzed through quadrants. The number of samples was 3.494 under five year old children from poor families. The significancy relations among variables were measured using Pearson's correlation and path analysis to analyze the determinants. The results, the determinant of positive deviance were income through mother's characteristics, health upbringing, and health status, the four provinces had the same determinants pathway (?=0.0451), with mother's characteristics (p<0.05) and health upbringing (p<0.05) as the significants variables. The conclusion was that mother with better characteristics in families who were able to manage income better, tended to practice better health upbringing which increase children's nutritional status. These factors determine the poor families living in the poor areas could have well nourished under five year old children rather than other families in the same economic condition. Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze direct and indirect factors that influence household?s food security. The study design was a crosectional study.  Research was conducted in Pasindangan and Banjarsari Village, Cileles and Warunggunung Subdistrict, Lebak Distric, Banten Province in April - May 2009. A purposive sampling was applied to select 101 households. The data collected include socio economy and food intake. Quantitatively,a household is categorized as food security, if his/her TKE >90%, and a household is categorized as food insecurity, if his/her TKE < 90%. The Rank Spearman test was applied to analyze correlation of socioeconomic, demographic and food intake variables between food securities. Path analysis was used to analyze direct and indirect factors that influence household?s food security. The results showed that 62.4% households were food security, and 37.6% households were food insecurity. There are correlation between household expenditure per capita, number of household member and land area to household food security. Based on the path analysis,direct factor that influence household food security was household expenditure per capita. Indirect factors that influence household food security were number of household member ? household expenditure per capita ? household food security.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the preference for sago products and nutritional intake of the community consuming sago in Kepulauan Meranti District, Riau Province. A cross-sectional study was conducted and 181 adults was purposively selected subjects in Tebing Tinggi Timur Sub-district, Kepulauan Meranti District, Riau Province. The data obtained were subject characteristics, anthropometry, preferences for sago products, and nutritional intake from semi-quatitative food frequency questionnaire and food recall. The most preferred sago products out of 10 types of processed sago products were sago noodles (89.9%), sago lempeng (86.9%), and lemak sago (85.4%). Sago consumption frequencies among the subjects were mostly ?often? (39.2%) and ?quite often? (30.6%). The average amount of sago consumption was 173.7±88.3 g/day. The subject's average daily energy intake was 1864±468 kcal and the average protein intake was 48.4±21.7 g. The energy adequacy levels of subjects who consumed sago <140 g/day and ?140 g/day were categorized as ?normal? (25.9% and 34.0% respectively). Meanwhile, the average level of protein adequacy were categorized as deficit (38.3% and 43.0% respectively). The carbohydrate adequacy levels were categorized as ?excessive? (80.2% and 71.0% respectively). The fat adequacy levels were categorized as ?excessive? (90.1% and 92.0% respectively). Sago noodles and lemak sago are two potential sago products to be developed as alternative carbohydrate sources due to their high frequency and preferability.
