Abstract

Employment in the garment industries involves a lot of human resources as workers, especially those in the sewing sector. Workers who work in the garment industry have higher possibility to suffer musculoskeletal disorders compared with those in other industries. Less ergonomic working postures is one of the factors that can affect the quality and quantity  of the tailor?s work. Lack of rest time and nutrition of the workers are also additional factor for the musculoskeletal complaints and fatigue in workers that will ultimately impact to the productivity. Therefore, ergonomic intervention is needed in forms of workplace stretching exercise and giving sweet tea to overcome the condition.   This research was an experimental study using treatment by subject design on 25 samples selected by simple random sampling method. Interventions given were WSE and sweet tea. Data were collected three times before and after intervention with washing out period for one day. The data collected comprised subjective fatigue using questionnaire of 30 items of fatigue, data for the musculoskeletal complaints used questionnaire of nordic body map, and also employ productivity by calculation partial productivity.   Data analysis was done initially by the descriptive analysis with the significance?s level ?=0.05 and the normality data tested with Shapiro-Wilk. Subsequently, the data with normal distribution were analyzed by t-paired, while the data with abnormal distribution analyzed be Wilcoxon test. The results showed, there was decrease of musculoskeletal complaints of 24.98%, decrease of fatigue 27.06%, and increase of labor productivity  66.67% all were significant (p<0.05).   Inconclusion, the ergonomic intervention with WSE and giving sweet tea can improve the physiologic response as shown decrease of fatigue and musculoskeletal complaints as well as increase of labor productivity of the tailors. It is recommended  that the study results be applied by tailors working in garment industry or individually.

Abstract

The activity of traditional dodol stirrer workers is done with standing position. The stirring process is done monotonically and over a long period of 5 hours. This study aims to show that workplace stretching exercise administration and modification of working conditions may decrease musculoskeletal and fatigue complaintas in traditional dodol stirrer workers. The stirring tool (siut) used by the worker does not correspond to anthropomethry, causing a work with a bent position. This study was an experimental study, with the same subject design. Period I subjects were treated with conventional working condition. Period II subjects were treated with workplace stretching exercise administration and improved working conditions in the form of re-design the stirring tool(siut) of the dodol stirrer and active rest. Musculoskeletal complaints were measured by Nordic body map questionnaires on a 4 likert scale, working fatigue using 30 item rating scales. Analysis of the collected data is started with the descriptive analysis and the normality data tested using Shapiro-Wilk. Further, the data that has normal distribution are analyzed using t-paired and the data that has not a normal distribution are analyzed using Wilcoxon test. This study indicated that the administration of workplace stretching exercise and modification of working conditions can decreasing musculoskeletal decline of 18.3 % from the mean 12.67±0.50 to 5.59±0.52 and fatigue decreased by 18.5% from the mean 12.42±1.45 to 5.34±0.66 It can be concluded that the provision of workplace stretching exercise and modification of working condition can decrease musculoskeletal complaintas and fatigue of dodol stirrer workers. So it is advisable for the dodol making industry to applied this technique of exercise to minimize complaints due to the working process of stirring dodol.

Abstract

Cassava cutting machine is a tool to cut the cassava into thin sheets with a thickness of 1 to 2 mm. High base of work cassava cutting machine is under worker?s elbow height. So during the work, the workers took the cassava to put into the machine by means of bending and putting cassava to cutting machine one by one until the cassava is cut off. Ergonomics intervention is making an additional pad on cassava cutting machine. The purpose of this research was to prove the effect of adding pad machines and the provision of dynamic stretching at the cutting process of cassava reduce the workload, musculoskeletal disorders, and increasing work productivity at cassava chips industry. Research was conducted by the same design subject (treatment by subjects design) with a sample of nine workers. Workload by measured the pulse of the workers. Musculoskeletal disorders measured by nordic body map questionnaire, and productivity is measured by a comparison between the results of cuts cassava production is divided workload multiplied working time. Data analyzed by t - paired with a significant level of p <0.005. The analysis showed after adding pad machine occurs a significant difference (p <0.05) between before and after treatment: (1) decreases in workload of workers from 102.41 beats per minute become 95.51 beats per minute, (2) decrease musculoskeletal disorders from the average score of 33.56 into 31.56, and (3) increase work productivity from 1.64 to 3.58. It was concluded that the addition of base support and the provision of dynamic stretching at the process of cutting cassava reduce the workload, musculoskeletal disorders, and increasing work productivity in cassava chips industry. It is suggested in the effort to reduce the workload, musculoskeletal disorders, as well as increasing work productivity in cassava cutting workers so it is suggested to addition of base support and do dynamic stretching movements.

Abstract

Characteristics of weaver was done by sitting on a chair in front of the loom. Sitting position for ± 8 working hours, monotonous movement, shoulders slightly raised, causing workers to balance body position. Work posture cause a static contraction to the shoulder and neck muscles. This study aims to show that the application of cervical stabilization through active exercise every 2 hours after work increase functional ability seen from decreasing musculoskeletal complaints, fatigue, increasing neck disability index and productivity among workers in weaving industry.        This experimental study has been done, with treatment by subject design. Period 1 subject is not treated ie weaving as usual. Period 2 subjects were treated with the application of cervical stabilization through active exercise every 2 hours after work. Between the two stages, washing out period and adaptation. Musculoskeletal complaints were measured by Nordic Body Map questionnaire, work fatigue with 30 item of rating scale, neck functional ability measured with neck disability index and productivity based on output and input ratio.       Analysis of the collected data is started with the descriptive analysis and the normality data tested using Shapiro-Wilk. Further, the data that has normal distribution are analyzed using t-paired and the data that has not a normal distribution are analyzed using Wilcoxon test. This study show that the application of cervical stabilization through active exercise increase functional ability seen from decreasing of musculoskeletal complaint 17.05%, fatigue 19.78%, increasing of neck disability index 15.13% and productivity 66.67%.        It can be concluded that the application of cervical stabilization through active exercise increase functional ability seen from musculoskeletal complaints, work fatigue, neck disability index and work productivity. So it is suggested to apply to weavers in the weaving industry, to increase the functional ability of workers.

Abstract

During threshing rice activity, farmers in forward banding. This posture caused musculoskeletal disorders, fatigue, workload, and that all can reduce work productivity. Therefore, to overcome these problems it can be done with using ergonomics oriented gebotan modification, by adjusting gebotan?s height relatedto farmer?s anthropometry. The aims of this study to determine the  farmers? performance improvement  that can be  seen from the  decrease  of  farmers'workload,  fatigue,  and  musculoskeletal disoders  as well as  an increase inproductivity after using the  modification of gebotan.This experimental study using treatment by subjects design, carried out on15 female farmers rice thresher of Subak Margaya. Musculoskeletal disorderswere collected by Nordic Body Map questionnaire, the workload is determinedbased on the increase in work heart rate. Heart rate prequency was measured by ten pulse method, fatigue was recorded by a 30 item of ratting scale questionnaire, and productivity was recorded by the amount of grains which threshed  in certain time. Data analysis was using t-paired test with a significant level of 5%.Before the  intervention  the  musculoskeletal disorders  score was 78.15;fatigue 73.95, work pulse 37.761, and productivity  0.645 respectively. With the score ergonomics oriented gebotan modification, the score of musculoskeletal disorders can be reduced to 43.35, fatigue 52.82, and work pulse 22,945, andproductivity increased to 1.19. The decrease of  musculoskeletal disorders 44.53%  (p <0.05), reduce of fatigue 28.57% (p <0.05), reduce workload 42.3% (p <0.05) and increasing productivity 83%  (p <0.05).The conclusions of this study, the ergonomics oriented gebotan modificationcan reduce  musculoskeletal disorders,  fatigue,  workload,  and  increase theproductivity of farmers. To farmers who threshing using gebotan recommended to, adjust the gebotan?s height as high as the user?s grip so in the process of threshing, the farmers working in physiological standing stance

Abstract

 Sport and nutritional intake are the important thing that needed for human body for optimal health and prevention from disease. Nutritional intake for athlete is calory intake from food and drink that was consumed in one day. The purpose of this research are know the balance of energy intake and total energy expenditure, proportion of karbhohirat, protein and fat . From 35 samples contain of 3 sport departments, there are atletic, kempo, and tarung derajat using combined event athlete development (CEAD) . In 35 samples, 1 sample has energy intake bigger than total energy expenditure (EI>TEE), and 34 samples have energy intake smaller than total energy expenditure (EI<TEE). The other representation that was found are proportion of karbohidrat, protein, and fat. Proportion of karbohidrat Low category 48.6 %, Normal category 34.3 %, High category 17.1%?. Proportion of Protein, Low category  5.7 % , Normal category  34.3 %, High category 60%. Proportion of  fat ,  Low category  6 %, Normal category 60% , High category  22.9 %. The charactheristic of samples are mean of age is 20±4 years, median of height is 167.5 cm , median of weight is 58 kg, median of IMT is 20.7, median of BMR is 1711, median of EI is 1563  kcal, median of TEE is 3004.716 kcal. The conclusion is  overview of energy intake (k.cal) and total energy expenditure (k.cal) are not balance, because there is still minus value from energy intake and total energy expediture and the other way, so in this research the nutirion of athletes are not optimal yet. Abstract

Most students? activities in respect to the implementation of the academic curriculumare done at home. In fact, conventional activity done by the students in boardinghouse ofMinahasa tradition showed unfavorable risks to students based on the load of learning withindicators of musculoskeletal complaints, boredom, and fatigue. Consequently, thestudents were not yet able to attain the intended performance. To overcome the problems,it has made the efforts of ergonomics intervention. In order to test the capability of theergonomics interventions, it had been done a research with the hypothesis, the ergonomicsinterventions on the activity in boardinghouse of Minahasa tradition: normalizes the bodytemperature; decreases the musculoskeletal complaints; decreases the level of boredom;decreases the level of fatigue; increases the accuracy of working; increases the speed ofworking; increases the constancy of working; and increases the results of working of thestudents. This research was done in two periods by utilizing the treatment by subjectdesign. The first and second period was done during four weeks, without and withergonomic intervention. The subjects utilized in the research were as many as 15 persons.The measurements of dependent variables were done before and after doing the activity.The results of the research showed that the ergonomics interventions on the learningactivities in boardinghouse could decrease load of learning significantly (p<0.05): the bodytemperature became normal, the musculoskeletal complaints decreased 44.79%; the levelof boredom decreased 9.79%; the level of fatigue decreased 15.20%; the accuracy ofworking decreased 55.06%; the speed of working decreased 17.32%; the constancy ofworking decreased 30.72%; and the results of working of the students increased 131.44%.It can be concluded that the ergonomics interventions can: decrease the load of learning ofthe students and increase the performance of the students.

Abstract

Overweight was one of the adolescent health problem in Indonesia. Aerobic exercise can reduce body fat, prevent overweight and increase flexibility. The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of Hatha Yoga and low impact aerobic exercise to the percentage of body fat and flexibility of adolescent girl in Denpasar. Research used randomized pre-test and post-test design involved 26 subject. Group 1 treated hatha yoga and Group 2 treated low impact aerobic. This intervention was given for 6 weeks, frequency 3 times a week, for 45 minute in Sanggar Senam Studio 88 Denpasar. The result shown that hatha yoga reduced the percentage of body fat with mean decrease of 4.91% and low impact aerobic exercise with a mean decrease of 1.41%. Increasing of flexibility hatha yoga with a mean 12.58 cm and low impact aerobic exercise with a mean 8.54 cm. The result from different test used independent t test found that mean decreased for the percentage of body fat after intervention equal to 4.28% with value of p = 0.032 and mean increased flexibility by 5 cm with value of p = 0.035. That result shown that there is a significant difference of body fat percentage and flexibility after intervention during 6 weeks (p<0.05). Conclusion: hatha yoga more effective in reducing the percentage of body fat and increasing flexibility than low impact aerobic exercise of adolescent girl in Denpasar. It is suggested to individuals with overweight in order to do sports activities regularly and continuously. Hatha yoga as an alternative sport activities that can be used to reduce the percentage of body fat, increase flexibility and physical fitness.

Abstract

Background: Disorder of dynamic balance is often found in children with Down syndrome which causes difficulty in maintaining posture against impending disorders. If this is left it will certainly cause problems of further motor development. Purpose: To prove the physiotherapy intervention that can improve dynamic balance among children with down syndrome 7-15 years. Methods: The research is true experimental with pre-test and post-test group design. This study used 24 subjects in 2 groups, group 1 (n=11) given dynamic neuromuscular stabilization on while group 2 (n=11) given perceptual motor program. Divided randomly into 2 groups that is group 1 dynamic neuromuscular stabilization and group 2 perceptual motor program. The exercise is held 3 times a week in 6 weeks. Measurements of this dynamic balance are using sixteen balance tests. Result: The paired sample t-test statistical test in group 1 showed a significant difference with value (p <0.001) on mean before intervention 48.5±5.428 and after intervention 72.75±4.413. The paired sample t-test statistical test in group 2 showed a significant difference with value (p <0.001) on mean before intervention 48.5±5.3 and after intervention 69.42±4.379. Different test between group 1 and 2 using independent sample t-test showed a significant difference with value (p<0.001). Conclusion: The conclusions are dynamic neuromuscular stabilization is better than perceptual motor program in improving dynamic balance among children with down syndrome 7-15 years at Pradnyagama Foundation Denpasar.

Abstract

Among skateboarders frequently faced with recurrent injury especially on ankle region. They seldom take attention to their injury and if the condition left untreated, it will turn into chronic ankle instability. This condition will disturb dynamic balance while playing skateboard. The purpose of this research is to find if dumbbell lunges intervention and core stability exercise are more effective than elastic band and core stability exercise for the improvement of dynamic balance. This experimental research using pre and post test two group design. Sample was taken with simple random sampling. Total of 24 samples were divided into 2 groups, each group contain 12 samples. Group I had dumbbell lunges intervention and core stability exercise while Group II had elastic band intervention and core stability exercise. The exercise was done 3 times per week for 6 weeks. Data was taken with measurement dynamic balance using modified bass test of dynamic balance before and after exercise to each group. The mean difference test increasement of dynamic balance with paired sample t-test results p value 0.001 (p<0.05) within treatment Group I and p value 0.001 (p<0.05) within treatment Group II. which mean there is significantly difference of increasing value dynamic balance before and after intervention within both group. Difference test before intervention in treatment Group I and Group II with independent t-test result p value 0.818 (p>0.05) in which there is no significant difference between groups before intervention. and difference test after intervention in treatment Group I and Group II with independent t-test shows significant difference with p value 0.001 (p<0.05). This study shows that dumbbell lunges intervention and core stability exercise result in better improvement of dynamic balance than elastic band intervention and core stability exercise among skateboarders.
