Abstract

This research seeks to map the gender relations within literary communities and their contestations in gaining social and financial capital in Yogyakarta and Surakarta social spaces. The presence of literary communities in these spaces, on the one hand, explains the local and specific self-identities of the communities, as well as their heterogeneity in gender relations. In particular, this research maps these communities' differences in expressions, trajectories (visions for the future), themes, narrations, language, and networks based on their gender relations. The Geographic Information System (GIS) method is used to map and explore the gender issues in these literary communities. By understanding the mapping of these literary communities, the dynamics of the social spaces used by these communities can be traced synchronically within a specific period. It can also be followed up when the database is used diachronically over time. This research finds that social spaces that enable open narration are insufficient to ensure the equality of women and men. Flexible domestic spaces for women are also necessary to ensure women to be active in creating the trajectory of the literary communities since they have capacities to do it.

Abstract

Serat Centhini telah mengalami pengembaraan dalam proses penerjemahan. Dari teks Jawa kuno, serat tersebut dialihbahasakan ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Ia kemudian juga mengalami transliterasi ke dalam Bahasa Prancis setelah kemudian teks dari Bahasa Prancis tersebut dikembalikan ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia. Centhini menjadi mahakarya yang mengalami perjalanan interpretasi yang panjang, mengalami transformasi alih bahasa dan alih budaya serta proses pengaktualisasian pemikiran dan ide akibat campur tangan penerjemah ketika proses pengalihan bahasa tersebut terjadi. Yang menjadi persoalan, begitu mudahkah penerjemahan yang bertingkat tersebut dilakukan? Apabila penerjemahan dari satu teks saja memunculkan beragam distorsi, bagaiamana dengan penerjemahan multi tingkat ini? Interpretasi seperti apakah yang dilakukan penerjemah? Adakah inovasi dan distorsi yang terjadi sebagai hasil dari proses penerjemahan? Tujuan artikel ini adalah merunut pengembaraan penerjemahan Serat Centhini dengan fokus pada interpretasi, inovasi dan distorsi yang dilakukan oleh para penerjemah.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the constestation of French writers? ideologies during the era of World War II through their works. The primary data sources were ?Le Mur?by Sartre, ?L?Etranger? by Albert Camus, and ?L?Attente de Dieu? Simone Weil. On the one hand the writers play roles as ones telling the world through their fiction, but on the otherhand they have active roles in positioning their believed ideologies. The study employed the Critical Discourse Analysis method. The discourses emphasize that God is viewed as personal, social, historical experiences contested by Sartre, Camus, and Weil in their works. They discuss God using different perspectives. The findings show that God isphilosophically positioned at the levels of being existent and non-existent, present and absent, and active and passive. Sartre and Camus are on the same line when talking about God?s absence in human existence. Meanwhile, Simone Weil, who is very religious, views that God is concretely present in human life.

Abstract

This writing examines three short stories in the short story anthology of Adab Am Qillah Adab by Naw?l Al-Sa?d?w?, namely: ?Adab.Am Qillah Adab?, ?al Umm al-Suwisriyyah al-Q?tilah?, and ?Qi??ah Fat?iyyah al-Mi?riyyah?. The analysis focuses on Nawâl al-Sa?dâwî?s critique of religious constructions of gender relations. The subjectivity of Salvoj ?i?ek is the theory used and hermeneutics is the method of analysis. The purpose of the study is to find out the reasoning behind the radical acts of Al-Sa?d?w? over her rejection of patriarchal religious constructions in her three short stories. The result of the analysis shows that the literary work is the explanation of the radicalization of the author?s actions, Al-Sa?d?w?, as a subject. Such radicalization is her rejection of the needy Symbolic (patriarchal religion construction) as her attempt to escape the Symbolic. Al-Sa?d?w? continues to move because the subject is split and empty. Therefore, Al-Sa?d?w? makes an effort to seek full self-fulfillment to and approach The Real in order to kill the old tyrannical Symbolic and pick up the new Symbolic, which is the construction of a just religion and liberate women.[Tulisan ini mengkaji tiga cerpen dalam antologi cerpen Adab Am Qillah Adab karya Nawâl al-Sa?dâwî, yaitu: ?Adab..Am Qillah Adab?, ?al-Umm al-Suwisriyyah al Q?tilah?, dan ?Qi??ah Fat?iyyah al-Mi?riyyah?. Analisis difokuskan pada kritik Naw?l Al-Sa?d?w? terhadap konstruksi agama atas relasi gender. Subjektivitas Salvoj ?i?ek adalah teori yang dipakai dan hermeneutik merupakan metode analisisnya. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui alasan di balik tindakan radikal Al-Sa?d?w? atas penolakannya pada konstruksi agama yang patriarkis dalam tiga cerpennya. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa karya sastra menjelaskan radikalisasi tindakan pengarang, Al-Sa?d?w?, sebagai sebuah subjek. Radikalisasi tersebut adalah penolakannya terhadap Yang Simbolik yang berkekurangan (konstruksi agama patriarkis) sebagai usahanya untuk melepaskan diri dari Yang Simbolik. Al-Sa?d?w? akan terus bergerak dikarenakan subjek itu terbelah dan juga kosong. Oleh sebab itu, Al-Sa?d?w? melakukan upaya untuk mencari pemenuhan dirinya secara terus-menerus dan mendekati The Real agar dapat membunuh The Symbolic lama yang tiranik dan menjemput The Symbolic baru, yaitu konstruksi agama yang adil dan membebaskan perempuan.]

Abstract

AbstractThis study attempts to explore the positioning of women in literary narratives, particularly in the construction of the space known as ?nation?. In discussions of nation and nationhood, these two concepts are frequently attributed to men. Questions of nationhood are also considered masculine, as nationhood is itself narrowly defined as nationalism or defense of the state. In such discussions, women are always  excluded, as they are constructed quite differently from men. The narrative of nation is a complex one, in which men and women are differently constructed. Narratives of women are frequently and continuously reproduced, both by men and by women. If, in a social context, narratives of women are continuously reproduced, what are they like in literary narratives that construct the nation? What type of narration of women is constructed? Why is such a construction forefronted? This study specifically explains how women can be continuously present in literature.Keywords: women, construction, narration, nation, literature WANITA DAN REPRODUKSI NARASI SASTRA DALAM KONSTRUKSI BANGSA AbstrakPenelitian ini mencoba mengeksplorasi posisi perempuan dalam narasi sastra, terutama dalam konstruksi ruang yang dikenal sebagai ?bangsa?. Dalam diskusi tentang bangsa dan kebangsaan, kedua konsep ini sering dikaitkan dengan laki-laki. Pertanyaan tentang kebangsaan juga dianggap maskulin, karena kebangsaan itu sendiri secara sempit didefinisikan sebagai nasionalisme atau pertahanan negara. Dalam diskusi semacam itu, perempuan selalu dikecualikan, karena dikonstruksi dengan cara yang berbeda dengan laki-laki. Narasi bangsa adalah hal yang kompleks; di dalamnya pria dan wanita dikonstruksi secara berbeda. Narasi perempuan sering dan terus diproduksi ulang, baik oleh pria maupun wanita. Jika dalam konteks sosial narasi perempuan terus-menerus direproduksi, bagaimana narasi perempuan dalam narasi sastra yang mengkonstruksi bangsa? Jenis narasi perempuan apa yang dikonstruksi? Mengapa konstruksi seperti itu dikedepankan? Penelitian ini secara khusus menjelaskan bagaimana wanita dapat terus hadir dalam sastra.Kata kunci: wanita, konstruksi, bangsa, sastra

Abstract

Tulisan ini melihat model konstruksi hubungan antara konsep nasionalisme dan implementasi program Keluarga Berencana (KB) di Indonesia dan memahami konsep simbolik tubuh perempuan dalam hubungannya dengan pengkonstruksian nasionalisme tersebut . Tiga rezim yang berbeda, yakni Orde Lama, Orde Baru, dan Orde Reformasi memiliki konsep yang berbeda dalam usaha mereka menciptakan imagined community. Tubuh perempuan, sebagai entitas yang menjalani KB, menempati peran sentral dalam hal ini .

Abstract

This paper aims to examine how the secular media in Surakarta represent Islam in the case of Charlie Hebdo. Therefore, this study used discourse analysis of Theo van Leeuwen focusing on how the subject or actor of the show in the media. This study concluded that the media represent Islam not only with “Western ideology” through idioms such as radical Islamist militants and terrorists, but also with "Islamic ideology". It is done through the construction of Islam as a religion of moderation and delegitimize Charlie Hebdo as magazine satyr abusing freedom. Various strategies are used ranging from strategy passivation to interdetermination. In this case, there are two poles of attraction in both media, namely the Western and Islamic ideology. If both media are quoting from Western sources, the Western ideology dominates the media narrative. Conversely, when both media used Islamic sources, the influence of Islamic ideology dominates the narrative of both media.

Abstract

Wayang memiliki cara tersendiri untuk mengungkapkan kandungan isinya . Ada dua unsur dasar dalam penampilan wayang yang keduanya menyimpan makna filosofis, yaitu unsur cerita dan unsur noncerita. Pada unsur cerita, seperti telah dijelaskan di atas, wayang memiliki perbedaan dengan cerita asalnya . Sebagai contoh, dalam cerita Mahabarata versi India tidak ditonjolkan peran anak keturunan Pandawa (Lal, 1992), sementara dalam cerita versi Jawa, dilakukan pengembangan cerita terhadap tokoh-tokoh keturunan Pahdawa yang tidak muncul dalam cerita sumbernya, seperti Gatotkaca, Antareja, Wisanggeni, dan sebagainya. Tokoh-tokoh Punakawan (Semar, Gareng, Petruk, dan sejak abad XVII Bagong) yang muncul di pertengahan cerita dalam adegan gara-gara (kondisi dunia dalam keadaan kacau), dianggap betul-betul bersifat Jawa karena tidak terdapat dalam epos di India (Magnis-Suseno, 1993) .

Abstract

The inclusion of French loanwords in the Indonesian language cannot be separated from the fact that there have been contacts between the two languages. In the process the French words underwent interference due to the different systems between the Indonesian Language and French, such as phonetic and ortographic system, in addition to the different structure of word formation of both languages. This phenomenon is closely linked to the status of French loanwords in the Indonesian language, whether they are interference or already integrated with the Indonesian language. In light of this, this study aims to examine whether French loanwords in the Indonesian Language are in the state of interference or already have integration status. This Study shows that the majority of French loanwords in Indonesian are still in the forms of interference. This is because these loanwords are still in their original forms ? French words. Other French loanwords are already integrated with the Indonesian language, especially those having undergone consistent adjustments through their spoken and written use.

Abstract

This article attempts to analyse one of Jean Racine?s famous works entitled Phèdre using the feminist post-structuralist approach, which differs from earlier analysis of his dramas by others. As a classical work, Phèdre has frequently been analysed by many scholars using the structuralist approach, thus specifically concentrating on binary opposition synthesis. As a result, the dichotomous understanding of Phèdre has been produced, and in many instances shows the stereotypical effect of women in many aspects of their lives. In this analysis of Phèdre, the feminist post structuralist approach deconstructs that understanding and revealed that power relation is one of the important perspectives that can be used in illuminating meaning within the text.
