Abstract

This paper examines the linkage between cross-functional teamwork and project management performance. The main thrust of the study is continuing debates on how cross-functional teamwork contributes to project management performance: on-time, on-budget, and on-purpose. The level of influence was observed based on six critical factors: the clarity of super-ordinate goals, conformity of project team members to organization rules and procedures, physical proximity of each project team members, accessibility of project team members, knowledge sharing amongst project team members, and fairness of selection process of the project team members. The study uses combination of survey and case studies approach to answer such complex question. Samples were driven from 44 healthcare projects under the coordination of Health Department in East Java involving 88 respondents in the study. The hierarchical regression analysis was then used to explain major antecedents of cross-functional teamwork on the performance of project management. The study concludes that successful project management accounts multi-dimensional issues. The clarity of super-ordinate goals and physical proximity of team members have positive and significant influence in the performance of cross-functional teamwork. These invite further research to improve generalizability of the study. Keywords: project management, performance, cross-functional teamwork.

Abstract

Interaction and linkages between business and information technology (IT) strategies remain a primary concern among executives. This study aims to gain an in depth understanding of how companies achieve alignment and the policy framework that underlies the efforts, particularly those that are associated with the most dominant factor that contributes to the establishment of strategic alignment, namely IT infrastructure flexibility. For that purpose, the study explored four companies engaged in the field of oil, electricity, and communication by adopting interpretive case study. Data were gathered using triangulation methods via field interviews, artifacts, document analysis, as well as direct observation. The textual data were elaborated by an intentional analysis in order to guide the study in exploring the phenomenon. The study identified elements that reflect IT infrastructure flexibilities namely connectivity, compatibility, modularity, IT staff knowledge and skills, and integration. Those elements cover both technical and behavioral dimensions of a company’s components that need to be included in the consideration during the planning phase

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of interagency cooperation in the natural disaster recovery operation. This includes an investigation of the extent to which the situational factors (leadership, communication, trust, and commitment) influence interagency processes and outcomes. These factors reflect the behavioral aspect of interagency cooperation.Data were collected through a survey followed by semi-structured interviews to representatives of both governmental and non-governmental organizations involved in the disaster recovery operation of the post earthquake in Yogyakarta and Central Java. Several hypotheses were proposed and tested to assess the magnitude and significance of the observed variables. The result indicates different level of perceived attainment amongst organizations involved in the disaster recovery operations. The behavioral aspects of the organizational leaders were significantly influenced the cooperation processes, which leads to inter-agency outcomes. The main contribution of this study is its presentation and empirical evidence of the proposed model of inter-agency cooperation.Key Words: effectiveness, interagency cooperation, disaster recovery

Abstract

Keywords: ICT, diffusion, adoption, social networks, SMF

Abstract

The role of change agents in technological diffusion and innovation at firm level has been addressed in published literature mostly within the context of the developed countries. However, the involvement of change agents in the diffusion and adoption of IT-based innovations by small and medium-sized firms in the developing countries is largely unexplored. The main research questions are why and how management decisions to adopt and use IT are influenced (if any) by the interactions of key people in firms with several identified change agents. Case studies are used as the preferred approach to answer the research questions and to understand the qualitative aspects of IT diffusion at the level of the firm. The study concludes that IT diffusion in small and medium-sized firms expose mixed institutional influences. The mechanism by which change agents are involved in IT diffusion is also unique and is claimed to be different from that is generally found in other studies in this area. Some policy implications are proposed by this study.

Abstract

This paper investigates factors contributing to the diffusion and adoption of IT within small and medium-sized firms in Indonesia. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were used to answer detailed research questions about IT diffusion at the level of the firm. Based on the exploratory nature of the study, it is believed that internal innovative capabilities of firms have a prominent role in facilitating IT diffusion. This factor is made up of three proxy variables: level of IT knowledge, level of IT investment and coherent IT strategy reflecting the circumstances by which small and medium-sized firms are able to respond to possible technological changes. The existence of government support is also a contributing factor to the diffusion and adoption of IT. However, weak relationship between the institutions and industry groups could inhibit the diffusion and adoption of IT within firms.
