Abstract

The effectiveness of animal physiology practical book based on guided inquiry model is the essential factor to achievement student understanding a about animal physiology concepts. The purpose of this study was to observe the effectiveness of animal physiology practical book based on guided inquiry model in Padang State University. The variables measured were affective, cognitive, psychomotor, and students? activities. The data of this pre-experimental research were analyzed using averaged, percentage and standardized with Institutional assessment criteria. The results showed that the mean values were: 90.56 for affective competency (Criteria A), 82 for knowledge (Criteria A), and 89.66 for skills (Criteria A). Meanwhile, the percentage of student activities was 90.74% with very active category. It can be concluded that the effectiveness of practical book based on guided inquiry model was very effective to optimized student competences.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Freshwater fish farming has become an indispensable agribusiness activities with fishmeal industry, one of which Jambal Catfish ( Pangasius djambal ). Feed the fish that have been used so far by ranchers/farmers, known as fish pellets. Feed pellet mill is easy to come by, but the feed pellets can damage the environment, because it can lead to water pollution. Additionally pellet prices continue to rise each year. In contrast to the NT45 Organic food contains bacteria that can clean water penggurai of turbidity and can fertilize with water triggers the Planton. Organic feed NT45 Series I also do not use synthetic chemicals and does not contain toxins and the price is also cheaper. Based on the background above, has done research on The Effect of Organic Feed NT45 Series I on growth of seedlings Jambal Catfish (Pangasius djambal). The purpose of this study was to observe the effect of feeding organic NT45 Series I on the growth of seedlings jambal catfish (Pangasius djambal). This study was conducted in February and March, 2013, housed in the Department of Biology FIMPA Ecology Laboratory, State University of West Sumatra Padang. This study is an experimental study. This study was designed with RAL (completely randomized design) with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The sample in this study is Jambal Catfish (Pangasius djambal) aged 8 weeks. The parameters measured were the length of the total, the length and weight of fish standards. Data analysis was performed with Variety Analysis and Test followed by Least Significant Difference (LSD) at α 5 %. The results showed that the organic feed NT45 Series I have a positive influence on the growth of seedlings Jambal Catfish (Pangasius djambal) both the length of the fishs body and the body weight gain Jambal Patin. Organic feed number NT45 Series I best to improve weight and body length Catfish Jambal is 3.78 g/day.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Earth-worm is an invetebrate animal which has many functions in other creature’ lives, such as: to improve soil fertility, to be medicines, food, and cosmetics. But, the population of this creature is being threathened to decrease dractically because of the effect of any poisonous chemical subtances herbicide paraquat for instance. In line with this case, it has been done a research about the Effect of  Herbicide Paraquat Towards Fecundity and Lay Rate of  Earth- worm eggs (Lumbricus rubellus). This research was an experimental research. Treatment concentrations which werw done in this research were 0 %, 0,1 %, 0,2 %, 0,3 % and 0,4 %. The  data  in  this  research  was  gotten  through  various  analysis  and  continued  with  the advanced test DNMRT. From this research, it was found that the number of production and lay rate of earth-worm cocon for every treatment which was given herbicide paraquat from the highest concentrations were different with the  number o production and lay rate or earth- worm cocon which was not given herbicide paraquat. In analyzing the data in this research, it was found that F count > F table standard α 5 so that it can be concluded that herbicide paraquat which was sprayed into earth-worm food cause the fecundity and lay rate of earth-worm cocon (Lumbricus rubellus) to decrease. It is suggested from the result of this research that people should not use herbicide paraquat because it can decrease the fecundity and lay rate of earth-worm cocon.

Abstract

Chili is a herbaceous plant of the family eggplant (Solanaceae) which has the scientificname Capsicum annuum L. Chili has a lot of nutrients and vitamins, such as calories, protein, fat,carbohydrates, calcium, Vitamin A, Vitamin B1 and Vitamin C. Besides being used for domesticpurposes, peppers can also be used for industrial purposes such as, industry-seasoning, food andmedicine or herbal. Efforts to increase the production of chili still have problems due to pestaphids (Myzus persicae). Aphids reproduce in two ways: with and without marriage or their eggscan develop into young without fertilization (Partegonesis). This pests life cycle ranges from 7-10 days. These pests attack plants by sucking liquid chili leaves, shoots, flower stalks or otherplant parts, so that the leaves become mottled yellow (chlorotic) and eventually fall so chiliproduction declined. This insect will be clustered so as to cover part of the plant. Of control thispest than by using insecticides as well as biological control by predators. Predator beetles arefound is the javelin (Menochillus sexmaculata). Has done research on leaf Mite PopulationDensity (Myzus persicae) and the predatory beetle javelin (Menochillus sexmaculata) At Chilliplants. This study was conducted using a descriptive survey in April 2012, from the results, thepopulation density of aphids Myzus persicae with an average of 64.4 people per stick plantpredatory beetles and javelin Menochillus sexmaculata with an average of 2.4 individuals perstick plant.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBitter (Andrographis paniculata Nees.) widely used for the treatment of various diseases, such as influenza, HIV anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory, antifertility. The main content of the bitter is Andrographolide. Andrographolide is the activeantimitotic bitter agentthat prevents cell division (cytokinesis) and reduced sperm count. This study aimed to determine the effect of extract of bitter (Andrographis paniculata Nees.) on the quality of epididymal spermatozoa of mice (Mus musculus L.) Swiss Webster.This research was conducted usingCompletely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 6 replications. Firs (I) treatment was the control, without any bitter extract. Treatments II, III, and IV is the provision of a bitter extract orally for 36 days with a dose of 0.2 g /mice/day, 0.4 g/mice/day or 0.6 g/mice/day. After treatment, the animals were decapitated, dissected and taken epididymal, and then put into the cup petridis already containing PBS solution. Calculation of number of normal and abnormal spermatozoa number were conducted using Improved Neubauer. Data were analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis Of Varian) that epididymal sperm normal and abnormal.The results shoured by the average sperm count is highest in the control of 29.83 x 105, whereas at a dose of 0.2 g of as much as 18.17 x 105, 0.4 g of as much as 24.33 x 105 and 0.6 g as much as 14.17 x 105. Delays due to the reduced number of sperm in the seminiferous tubules of the process of mitosis by antimitotic compounds. While granting that the higher the extract resulted in increased number of abnormal sperm. The causes of abnormal sperm maturation of spermatozoa due to disruption in spermiogenesis phase. The fewer the number of normal sperm treated with increasing doses. It can  concluded that the extract of bitter given orally for 36 days can decrease sperm quality mice and increases sperm abnormalities.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sambiloto(Ind) or Bitter(Eng) Andrographis paniculata Nees., can used in the treatment of various diseases, such as influenza, cancer, antiinflammatory, antiHIV, antimitotic and antifertility.This study aimed to determine the effect of  the herbal bitter (Andrographis paniculata Nees.) to ejaculated sperm quality mice (Mus musculus L.). This research  was conducted  using Completely Randomized  Design  (CRD)  with  4 treatments and 6 replications, water and fed adlibitum. First treatment is given solvent extract. Second treatment extract were given 0.2 gram, third treatment were given 0,4 grams of extract and fourth treatment were treated exstrac 0,6 gram the orally for 36 days. After the mice decapitated, dissected and take sperm from vas deferens. Then, the sperm preparation determined using the improved Neubauer. Data were analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis of Varians).The results shoured at doses of 0,2 gram, the average sperm count was 12,00 x  decrease significant when compared with the control in which the average number of sperm 28,08 x  . So with this research the effective doses to decrease sperm count and can be used as a contraception medication dosage was 0,2 gram. It can be conclude that the extract of bitter (Andrographis paniculata Nees.) can decrease the quality of the ejaculated sperm of mice (Mus musculus L.)

Abstract

ABSTRACTIn theaching and learning process, the students are hoped to get benefit of learning biology and know in which case the concept can be implemented, furthermore, it is necessary for the teacher  to create learning atmosphere that will help the student in understanding the concept. To make the student easier in understanding the material, the teacher as a facilitator should be able to create and adapt students need with any source of material. The learning sources that was not still understandable and interesting can bother learning process so that it is needed a development of learning sources that can be in the form of module. Based on the case above, it was done the research which had a purpose to create a module that was completed by drawing map concept in material “klasifikasi Makhluk Hidup” for junior high school students, to know validity and practicality criterion. This research was a developmental research which was used three phase of 4-D model, it consisted of define, design, and develop. The subject of this research was 3 lecturers of biology, 2 teachers of SMP N 2 Pantai Cermin. Practicality testing by 2 Biology teachers and 29 students class VII SMP. Analysis of the data used descriptive and percentage technique. Based on the research result, it produced a product of module, the percentage score for the module which was categorized valid by the validator was 85,08%. Then, module which was categorized practice by teacher was 88,59% and by the students was 87,85%. from the easy used and learning efficiency therefore, it can be concluded that the module that was completed by drawing concept mapping had validity and practicality criterion.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Student Worksheet is one sheet containing materials in which there is a summary of the material that is accompanied by a collection of exercises . With the LKS students are expected to understand the description of the subject matter provided by the teacher. Based on observations and interviews that have been conducted in SMP Muhammadiyah 6 Padang that in the second semester junior class VII using teaching materials such as worksheets, worksheets used in schools does not meet the learning objectives that are developed by teachers and worksheets used in schools only contains only a summary of the material and not equipped with an image.This research aims to generate worksheets based Problem Solving biological material environmental pollution on a valid and practical . Type of research is the development of the procedural model that aims to produce a product, the product is developed using 3 - D stage of Four  models define phase , design , and develop .Research subjects of 5 people validator and 20 students. The research data is the primary data were analyzed by descriptive analysis. The result is the value obtained validity by faculty and teachers of 84,125 %, while the value of the practicalities of 86,87 % by teachers and by students of the value of the practicalities of 87,54 % . It can be concluded that the BLM has produced a valid and practical .

Abstract

ABSTRACT Muaro is one of the water bodies in which a variety of living organisms, the organism is clam shells Polymesoda bengalensis is known by the public as the seashell. The shells used by people around for a living because of the economic and nutritional value is very high. Current where abouts shellfish habitat Polymesoda bengalensis already disturbed. The most serious threat to the population is the result of harvesting clams and mussels taking excessive. Organisms that live in Muaro depending on substrate conditions and salinity, the salinity fluctuations depending on topography estuaries and tidal influence, the substrate  showed  differences  with  population densities. This factor  caused by  each type of  substrate occupied by Polymesoda bengalensis shells with different age groups. This study aimed to determine the distribution of oyster shell length and physical factors-water chemistry of mangrove clams Polymesoda bengalensis in Muaro Nipah Kecamatan Sutera Kabupaten Pesisir Selatan. The research was conducted in  January  2013  in  Muaro  Nipah  Kecamatan  Sutera  Kabupaten  Pesisir  Selatan.  Analyzes  were Polymesoda bengalensis conducted in the laboratory Animal Ecology Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics  and  Natural  Sciences,  Andalas  University  in  Padang,  this  determination  using  survey methods and sampling techniques using purposive systematic stratified random sampling in three locations determined by vegetation. Results of sample analysis shells Polymesoda bengalensis obtained size comparison long: thick : high = 2 : 1 : 2, there is a close relationship between the length and height with thick shells Polymesoda bengalensis. Biomass of meat is determined by the length, thickness and height shells. Length ranged shells 2.9–7 cm. Shell size distribution in strata I and III predominantly young individuals, in strata II adult individuals while on location I and III predominantly young individuals and locations II dominated by adult individuals.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Sea cucumbers (Holothuroidea) is one class of Echinodermata (thorn-skinned animals) that live in coastal waters Saibi that have no nutritional value and high economic. This causes the animal much overexploited by communities around the coast that have reduced the presence of population. Based on this research has been done on the composition  of  the  cucumbers were  found  in  Saibi  Beach  Middle  Siberut  Mentawai District, in December 2012. This research is descriptive and sampling using belt transect method with squares measuring 1 m2. Sample identification is done in Laboratory Animal Ecology, State University of Andalas Padang. The results showed that sea cucumbers were found to be composed of 6 species which consists of 1 class, 1 order, 2 Family and 4 genus Holothuria consisting ie 3 species, whereas Stichopus, Bohadchia Thelenota and 1 species each. Highest density at Station I (3.66 indivedu/m2) and the lowest at Station III (2.99 individu/m2). Highest frequency contained in the Station I (3.66%) and the lowest at the third station (2.99%). Indeks Divesty  is highest at the first station (1.4672) and lowest in the Station II (1.3693). Spearman correlation level obtained at the third station r count  is smaller than α r table at 5% level (0.829) correlated not real, physical and chemical factors in the Pantai Saibi Kecamatan  Siberut Tengah Mentawai District, temperature range 27-300 C, pH 74-75, DO 7,1-8,4 ppm and salinity 15.18-50.20 mg / L
