Abstract

Socio-entropy system approach (SESA) as used as a comprehensive tool to identify any kind of social shortcoming that might have constrained achievement of government policy on social-forestry. The study objectives were to observe all critical factors on the program implementation of social forestry and to analyze any intervening variables relevant to socio-psychological, socio-ecological, socio-economic, and socio-cultural shortcomings (being called here as socio-entropies) that would have been most crucial to the required policy modification. Samples were taken by purposive sampling and intensively interviewed using questionnaire. Data was analysed using structural equation modeling. The study found out that the socio-psychological entropy which apparently needs to comprehend basically relates to 3-intervening variables of self-esteem, individual compassion, and non-formal education.  Likewise from the socio-ecological stand point, what need to be controled better were the spirit of owning more land plots, and the geo-morphological position of owned land plots. Meanwhile socio-economic entropy seemed to appear as consequences of people efforts in gaining more income due to hedonistic temptation and lack of knowledge about the type of environmentally sound livelihoods. Finally, the crucial factors of socio-cultural entropy were the faded away adat-law, weakening social norms, and  absence of inter-ethnic but more closed, and traditional networking.

Abstract

The knowledge on the behaviour of a building structure is very important in order to predict the behaviour of the structure before it is constructed. This is to ensure that the structure is safe to be used. New current modern technology is now able to predict the behaviour of a structure through computer simulation as a replacement to laboratory tests. However, laboratory tests will also have to be performed in order to validate the proposed computer models. This thesis illustrates the prediction of the structural behaviour of Profiled Steel Sheet Dry Board (PSSDB) which is a structural composite floor system constructed of Bondek II (profiled steel sheeting), Cemboard (dry board) connected via Power Drive DX14 (self drilling, self tapping screws). The floor structure is loaded with a uniformly distributed loading and its behaviour due to the openings at the center of the panel analysed using a finite element perangkat lunak package, LUSAS-FE. The one-way spanning plate have been analysed in this research. The increase in deflection in the longitudinal direction is found to be more influenced by the presence of the opening than the deflection in the transverse direction. The average percentage of the increase in deflection of the one-way spanning plate due to the presence of 20%, 40%, and 60% opening of its overall width are 36%, 108%, and 184% respectively in comparison to the deflection of plate without opening. It has been found that as the size of opening increases, the deflection also increased.

Abstract

This article discusses the implementation of article 29 UUD 1945 as an embodiment of religious tolerance in Islamic law perspective. Religious tolerance has become an essential object, this because of pluralism cultures and various religions which have been naturally developed as well as accepted by all of the citizens. If this could not well-managed in an atmosphere of good cooperation, then it is possible that differences in religious culture would have trigger social conflict. The findings suggest on that article provision on 29 Indonesian Constitution contained; (a) Believing and god-fearing on Oneness God in accordance with human civilized; (b) Construct the respect  and tolerance among religions; (c) Admitting that every citizen free to worship and not to impose the will on other peoples religion. This respect is merely to look for and find out the similarity and equality that may have advantages as comparative materials.

Abstract

Conversion of paddy fields in Indonesia is quite alarming, reaching an average area of 10 thousand hectares per year. Various regulations have been created and assigned; however, they are considered not to effectively reduce the rate of conversion of the existing paddy fields. The paddy field conversion has brought about negative impacts on the national food security. To overcome these, besides issuing the government regulations to reduce the rate of paddy field conversion, the government has also set a number of policies to boost rice production and to improve the welfare of farmers. One policy is the pricing policy by the Government Purchase Price (grains/rice). This study aimed to analyze the paddy field conversion in Indonesia and its effect on the Government Purchase Price (grains/rice). The data used in this research were the dynamic time series data from the years of 1990-2010, with the consideration of the upward trend in paddy field conversion in Indonesia. The models built an econometric model of simultaneous equations consisted of 41 equations (19 structural equations and 22 identity equations) or in other words, the model consisted of 41 endogenous variables. The results showed that the real prices (grains/rice) of the government purchases have inelastic responses to the changes of all explanatory variables in the short and long terms. The conversion of paddy fields in Indonesia has not only reduced the existing rice production capacity but also has affected the government purchase price policy (grains/rice). The government requires to implement the multi qualities of the government purchasing pries (HPP) for both grains and rice. Keywords: rice, grain, government purchase price, paddy field conversion

Abstract

Tidal lowlands bear enormous potential including  crop production.   However, tidal lowlands also have numbers of ecosystem functions that prevent them from exploitative uses.  Therefore, tidal lowland utilization for crop production should consider measures to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) in one hand.  In the other hand, SDGs should also ensure the sustainable use of tidal lowlands. This  paper aims to review the sustainability of crop production in tidal lowland to support the achievement of SDGs, which are eliminating hunger, achieving food security with good nutrition, and improving sustainable agriculture. These goals need to be achieved in 2030 by ensuring sustainable crop production systems, applying tough agricultural practices, increasing production and productivity, and  at the same time maintaining tidal lowland ecosystems. Therefore, this paper will  review three major aspects as follows: (1) productive means of crop cultivation, (2) effective control of agricultural waste and pollutant, and (3) efficient use of agricultural inputs. This review is expected to yield sustainable measures of crop production in tidal lowlands to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Abstract

Water in tidal lowlands may either lack or excessive.  Neither lack nor excessive of water is demanded for crop cultivation.  Therefore, water management plays an important role in the development of tidal lowland agriculture through maintaining proper water conditions.  Since tidal lowland with certain conditions is considered marginal, its utilization for crop cultivation should maintain its fragile characteristics such that its utilization to support crop production can be sustained.  Continuing use of tidal lowlands for crop production, therefore, requires agricultural ecosystem management through the establishment and measurement of sustainability in water management. Sustainable water management in tidal lowlands for crop production should not only consider the physical resources (infrastructures), but also human resource as well as financial resource.  This paper proposes three agendas for research on water management as follows: (1) identification of specific local water infrastructure developments, (2) initiation of  participatory operation and maintenance of water infrastructures, (3) utilization of self-supporting financial means in water management.

Abstract

Purbiyanti et al, 2019. Potency of Toman Cultivation (Channa micropeltes) in Komering River as the Additional Income of Swampy Rice Field Farmers’ Household. pp. 333-337.The potential of many rivers stretched in South Sumatra is a great potential for the development of freshwater fish culture. One of them is Toman (Channa micropeltes) which is a type of fish from the “gabus” fish. Toman has economic value and is highly nutritious, and is easily cultivated. The community in Arisan Buntal village, Kayu Agung subdistrict, began to cultivate this fish as an additional source of income; outside the wetland swamp rice farming as the main source of income. This study aimed to analyze the income of Toman cultivation in Arisan Buntal village. Quantitative approaches were used in this study. The sampling method was carried out by purposive sampling, technically interviewing the peat swamp rice farmers who also cultivated the Toman fish. A sample of 8 farmers was obtained. Data consists of primary and secondary. The results of data processing show that the average farmer is only limited to cultivating Toman fish as much as 1 cage. The seeds are distributed around 1,000-1,200. The net income received by farmers reached Rp. 11,976,000 / cage / 8 months. The community calls this business "savings in the water". Even though the marketing of Toman fish is relatively easy, the farmers are enough to find collectors they already know; however, there are still some obstacles in the cultivation. These constraints include: high feed costs; fish susceptible to death or loss due to being stolen during maintenance; pollution in the Komering River due to canals from oil palm plantations that flow into the river; and lack of experience of farmers because it is still relatively new in cultivating it. Given the magnitude of the cultivation opportunities and nutritional value of these fish, farmers should increase their business scale. This is done to increase income; also to increase the nutritional value of the farming family in particular. It is hoped that the regional government can support the cultivation of the Toman through the launching of the flagship program of Ogan Komering lirI Regency; and also eliminating existing constraints.

Abstract

Understanding reading passage requires the activation of background knowledge, vocabulary competence and the understanding of the rules of the target language to construct the meaning of the text. This research is set out to discover the effective teaching to improve the reading comprehension by activating the students’ background knowledge, connecting it to the current text to read and producing the meaning. Appointing to the connection between the background knowledge to the text, this research investigates the comparison between the traditional group work of reading and use of KWL technique for teaching reading at grade 8 of SMPN 9 Kendari. The objective of this study is to investigate, there is or not a significant difference of reading comprehension between students who learn reading based on conventional teaching and those who learn based on KWL technique. This study applied matching pre-post comparison group design, which involves two cohorts namely control and experimental group. The hypothesis of this study is “there is a significant difference of reading comprehension between the students who learn reading based on traditional group work of reading and those who learn reading based on task based learning. Using independent t-test to evaluate the hypothesis of this study (sig. 2-tailed = 0.00 < 0.05), reveals that there is a significant difference of reading comprehension between students who learn reading based on traditional group work of reading and those learn based on task based learning. This study is also covers the students’ motivation in learning reading based on traditional group working and task based learning. It shows that students who learn reading English text by using KWL technique were positively motivated than those who do not. Therefore, this study suggests to use KWL technique in the teaching of reading especially at Grade 8th of SMPN 9 Kendari. It also suggested that further research to apply KWL technique to improve the students’ reading comprehension can be applied in the form paperless or digital form of KWL to make it more attractive and dynamically accessible without considering the geographical span.
